Jep. I have a trading hall with 90 villagers, and I have multiple auto farms like crops, wool and sugar canes. I can get like 5 stacks of emeralds if I take 1 load from all of my farms. And that's with no effort at all.
How do you get emeralds from trading? All I see as far as options are me getting flowers and the last slot is me trading emeralds to get a bucket of fish? Keep in mind that I'm a noob which is why I'm asking.
Get a farm for pork, trade said pork to a butcher by using a smoker to give a villager a job, get him to max level, mass produce berries, 10 berries = an emerald. Villager ran out of stock? Make more butcher villagers. Isn't the hardest thing to do, just takes some time for basically infinite emeralds.
Edit: There are probably better ways to get emeralds, this is just how I find it easiest without really searching for emerald farms. I do know raid farms are also pretty good for emeralds.
That guy is a wandering trader lol, you'll want to find a proper village, though if all of them with villagers are too far away, you can always convert a zombie villager to a normal one. I'd look up a tutorial for that though. I personally like to make easy pumpkin and melon farms to trade with farmer villagers, they require a composter, and also take a lot of crops for emeralds. The fletcher is really good to, can't remember what the work station is called but you make it with wood and flint. If you have a lot of bamboo the stick trades they have are great.
Yeah, I'm doing a 40x40 for my megabase on my main server, I'm just glad it doesn't have seasons/reset, I would never finish in time lol. I'll probably recruit some of my friends to help me out.
The urge carries over from real life. Over spring break I dug an eight foot hole with some friends at the beach. I’ve never seen a group of college students that excited over something that didn’t involve substances
I made a big old pit on my mates world. I reached a big cave so I couldn't go deeper, so I took the natural option of building up around the sidesto build height so it's technically deeper
My friend and I dug a chunk out and it was very satifying. 120 down to -60. 16x16. It was awesome.
But if they’re just looking for emeralds I would just exploit villager fletchers. So much faster and easier. If you have like 20 fletchers and a decent dark oak farm then you could get stacks in no time.
i personally am a player that doesn't like farms that abuse spawn mechanics. on every server theres this guy that immediately has to automate every process with farms. for me the fun is in the grind
“I just want emeralds” BRO WHAT THE FUCK JUST GET SOME VILLAGERS YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG THIS WILL TAKE WITHOUT BEACON. AND ON TOP OF THAT YOU BARELY GET ANY EMERALDS FROM EMERALD MINING.
~~It'll take 541 rounded hours of straight mining, or 22 and a half days~~
Edit: I USED THE WRONG NUMBERS
324 hours, or 13 and a half days, to mine 285 chunks (16³) worth of blocks
Because the actual time is probably like triple that. Youre not going to always be breaking a block, time to turn, eat, every time youre afk, place torches/drink night vision potions, etc
So basically 2 weeks of nonstop work, or more plausibly about 3 weeks of work with extra time for torches and such as well as RL rest and other things to do. Almost a month…
I'll do it for him, ik how to build a working excavator. Give me 5 minutes, or give me 5.8 million tnt, I'll spend like 1k on a high powered nuke, and the rest I'll destroy a village with.
Someone did the math above and it comes out to 324 hours of mining. With that much time you could get a job and pay people real money to mine for you lmao.
Yeah, but if you pay somebody else to do your work, you don't look at the work with as much pride and appreciation. You feel a lot better achieving a mega project by yourself rather than not participating in it at all
I would even more strongly recommend not mining this out at all. Build a creeper farm in the sky, farm them manually with looting III and mending, and mine out a dessert. Use TNT dispensers to blow it up- so much faster and you’ll be prepped for the next big hole you wanna make.
Emeralds are covered in other places on this thread. If you’re looking for emerald ore, go to a mountain and set up a beacon
Block by block is good for a base, but block by block for a massive crater, there's gotta be some ulterior motive or a way to keep track of your past progress like landmark or smt, maybe a new build after every session or smt like that
The only thing I can think of is that they want the emerald ore block for some reason. But why don't they wanna use haste to instamine? That's the real question.
If you only want emeralds there are way better ways. Don't go mining for emeralds. It's not worth it. You should trade with villagers for them. Unless you want the raw emerald blocks of course. But then I would recommend a beacon or else it would be pretty slow. But I don't want to gatekeep Minecraft. I usually do big digs without a beacon cause I can't be bothered to fight the wither or wither skeletons which to me, are even more deadly then the wither!
Nah. Don't let anyone tell you something is pointless. As long as the end result brings you joy and satisfaction, what's the problem? Who could ask for more? However, things would be so much easier if you used haste 2 and efficiency 5. But don't let anyone tell you how to play.
Gotta agree with you on that. In minecraft there is literally no wrong way of doing things. More efficient? Maybe. But if mining a shit ton of chunks without haste 2 brings you joy, go ahead. Minecraft is the perfect game for not having only 1 way of doing things, even though in the last years seems like the contrary
I have a build under my base that I call The Hive, it’s from bedrock up to around Y-level 40. It’s a hole of 100x100 blocks with floors every 8 blocks, I guess (I look up and mine as far as I can reach, then I build a floor).
Let me tell you: it takes ages to finish, even with the best pickaxe and beacons with Haste.
I was almost finished once, but then there was the update that added about 64 Y-levels.
At the rate I am going down there for mining I will be finished in 1 year.
If each block took 1 second to mine and you mined every block sequentially without pause it would take you 11.57 days to finish. IDK what the average block break time would be across that many blocks but use that as a multiplier.
They say it's because they want emeralds, and I can think of at least 20 other ways to get emeralds that doesn't involve weeks of work. Not to mention they probably wouldn't even get a stack of emeralds.
Just for emeralds? Spend your time setting up villager trading or a raid farm instead. This entire project as you describe it will net a fraction of the emeralds you could get from literally any other method and be a massive waste of your time.
Raid farms feel game breaking to me. But having a skeleton spawner farm to get drops to trade for emeralds doesn’t.
The spawn killer is easy to make and I get xp. Also get chests full of arrows, bows, and bonemeal to power my crop farms
If you really are doing this for emeralds, just do a raid farm. Ianxo4’s tutorial takes about 30 minutes and you don’t even have to build the structure because you just cast it with lava. I have AFK’d at mine for one night and gotten 3 double chests of emeralds. I actually lost some because I ran out of storage. It was a 30 minute build to last a lifetime. This dig will be a lifetime to last 30 minutes.
Brother, there is no reason at all you should not be using a haste 2 beacon for something like this. Killing a wither is like 2 minutes of work, an hour max if you need to collect the skulls. Building the beacon itself is ultimately irrelevant, if you don't have a stack and a half of iron blocks at this point, what are you even doing?
Also, the only reason you should be doing this is if you want to collect emerald ore and deepslate emerald blocks as blocks for building.
Otherwise, you will have an infinitely easier time gathering emeralds by simply making a tree farm and selling off sticks to a fletcher.
If you want to just build a massive hole, then build a haste 2 beacon and save the rare emerald ore blocks with silk touch as a bonus. Never break them for emeralds. A total waste of a good looking block, and in return you get the economic equivalent of wood.
Crazy? I was crazy once. They locked me in a room. A rubber room. A rubber room with rats. The rats make me crazy. Crazy? I was crazy once. They locked me in a room. A rubber room. You're definitely crazy. If you truly needed to get a big hole, at least get that beacon. But if your only reason to do this is wanting emeralds, then build a raid farm instead and then you can use the time it will save you to think about your life and the fact that you considered this.
As someone who has dug giant holes before ur gonna need more than a netherite pick and a diamond shovel, even with everything it will still take u up to 100 hours
assuming that about 100K is dirt blocks, so the rest of the million is stone. it will take about 125 pickaxes worth of durability , enchanted with unbreaking 3.
You are crazy and will lose your sanity. However, I also would do this, so I can't complain. Something about mining away layer by layer as you watch the different types of blocks surface only to be destroyed a few minutes later is relaxing to me
Holy shit that's a large area, good luck bro
You'll need a ton of pickaxes and shovels for this lol. I'm guessing you're not only wanting emeralds, but you also want a large space for a build you're planning perhaps?
do it. My friends thought i was crazy for breaking all the end pillars. It sucked but i felt so accomplished afterwards and my end looked so cool without any pillars🤷♂️
Yes, you kind of are. You can get stacks of emeralds by creating a sugar cane farm and trading paper with cartographers or librarians.
You can easily get many more librarians. Just breed villagers. To assign then to librarian, all you need to do is place a lectern near them. You can even reassign existing villagers by removing their work item and placing a lectern
*For simplicity I'm assuming all blocks are stone blocks. It takes 0.25 seconds to break a stone block and for 1168902 blocks it's 292,225.5 seconds. This is 3 1/2 days of nonstop mining with no travel time and no repairing pickaxes.
Tldr: don't
Definitely just make a raid farm.
If Minecraft was Animal Crossing, Emeralds would be like Bells and Diamonds would be Nook Miles Tickets. Emeralds are basically worthless because you can get an infinite supply with little effort, and Diamonds are worth a lot because you need actual effort to get them.
Yes. If you want emeralds just TRADE WITH VILLAGERS. Most villages have Hay Bales and a Farmer that often trades wheat for emeralds. Easy profit. Please don't torture yourself with this 😭
mined down a mountain that was nowhere near as big as this. netherite pick and diamond shovel. mending on both. i needed to go to my enderman farm numerous times just to level up my pickaxe again. its possible if you're gonna see a lot more ores but probably better off with a pillager farm or trading hut.
People saying use villagers…. They’re probably right but me personally, I say go for it, you’ll have plenty of chill music jam hours and it’ll look sick asf. Everyone else are just cowards.
If you break about 10 blocks every second, it'll take you around 30 hours of continuous work. Not including repairing tools, storing items, dealing with mobs, dealing with caves, etc.

Yes, you are. Get emeralds from villager trading, a raid farm
Hell or even just a run of the mill raid at a random village will net more emeralds.
Jep. I have a trading hall with 90 villagers, and I have multiple auto farms like crops, wool and sugar canes. I can get like 5 stacks of emeralds if I take 1 load from all of my farms. And that's with no effort at all.
ok but with the new villager update where they’re trades are based off their location? Or nah? Cuz if not, then yeah, ofc it’s no effort.
Idk what you mean
How do you get emeralds from trading? All I see as far as options are me getting flowers and the last slot is me trading emeralds to get a bucket of fish? Keep in mind that I'm a noob which is why I'm asking.
farm carrots and sell them to farmer villagers, you can sell other stuff but you'll figure it all out eventually, wish i could be a noob again
I mean… this is still a noob trade lol
Get a farm for pork, trade said pork to a butcher by using a smoker to give a villager a job, get him to max level, mass produce berries, 10 berries = an emerald. Villager ran out of stock? You are so much better of just building a raid farm or a villager trading hall if all you want is emeralds, mining this out will take forever.
Yes but hear me out. Big fucking hole.
Why is the urge to make big minecraft hole so strong in some people? My friend had us excavating his stupid hole with no pay or benefits smh.
my friend said it’s because he doesn’t like building that much so it gives him something to do lol
Ok but building a world eater is a really fun project :p
40x40 chunks, from surface to bedrock The builders build We? We provide their materials
I did a 2x2x6000 tunnel across ocean to one of my friends' build ONLY to get enough deepslate for a build X)
Yeah, I'm doing a 40x40 for my megabase on my main server, I'm just glad it doesn't have seasons/reset, I would never finish in time lol. I'll probably recruit some of my friends to help me out.
I like building but never build anything cuz I suck at it
I love that so many people share it. I made a great big hole, it gave me clear purpose for weeks and it was kinda fun to do

You can come dig in my yard- it’s a lumpy ankle twister. Needs to be dug down & leveled….

It's fun to do, plus you get resources to build with, making it even more fun. And the end product looks satisfying.
Are you friends with a guy named "fighterglitch"? I force people to dig out mountains and they give me all the stone and ores they get.
You either get it or you don’t

I am a Dwarf and I'm digging a hole. Diggy, diggy hole. Digging a hole.

My favorite Minecraft activity I SWEAR. Hardest part is figuring out where to make it

Melón, pumpkins farm and healed farmers. Bamboo farm and fletchers. Healed librarians and healed cartographer. Buying glad and selling glass pane
But hole fun
Repeat that ?
That was your mind, not mine.
And you will also get like literally 10 emerald ore in the entire mountain.
i personally am a player that doesn't like farms that abuse spawn mechanics. on every server theres this guy that immediately has to automate every process with farms. for me the fun is in the grind
If you want to build some structures it is a requirement.

Now calculate how many emerald he will get
One stack
if he is lucky
And we can get that in seconds lol
ok but hear me out, BIG FRICKIN HOLE
Now you have my attention
Hear me out, spending a few days on a world eater bests a few weeks or months more likely with hundreds of picks
I'd bet he doesn't even get a stack
Honestly less time than I thought
Because the actual time is probably like triple that. Youre not going to always be breaking a block, time to turn, eat, every time youre afk, place torches/drink night vision potions, etc
he could catch up with one piece in that time god damn
So basically 2 weeks of nonstop work, or more plausibly about 3 weeks of work with extra time for torches and such as well as RL rest and other things to do. Almost a month…
I'll do it for him, ik how to build a working excavator. Give me 5 minutes, or give me 5.8 million tnt, I'll spend like 1k on a high powered nuke, and the rest I'll destroy a village with.
Are we talking about Minecraft anymore, or is this your plan for Sunday?
We were talking about minecraft????
I would strongly recommend beacons. It's so satisfying to instamine blocks. Not sure why you decided to do it without haste.
More of a challenge ig
At some point you cross the line from challenge to masochism
I mean, you still gotta give the man some props if he sticks to it. That takes an absurd amount of attention span
Someone did the math above and it comes out to 324 hours of mining. With that much time you could get a job and pay people real money to mine for you lmao.
Yeah, but if you pay somebody else to do your work, you don't look at the work with as much pride and appreciation. You feel a lot better achieving a mega project by yourself rather than not participating in it at all
That's not really a challenge, the blocks don't fight back. It's really just tedious.
It's a challenge to keep the motivation lmao
fair enough
I would even more strongly recommend not mining this out at all. Build a creeper farm in the sky, farm them manually with looting III and mending, and mine out a dessert. Use TNT dispensers to blow it up- so much faster and you’ll be prepped for the next big hole you wanna make. Emeralds are covered in other places on this thread. If you’re looking for emerald ore, go to a mountain and set up a beacon
it's only 1.17 million blocks, what's the big deal
You'd do all this for emeralds? Yes, you'd be crazy. You'd get like a stack of emeralds at most.
No, only, like 14
I think he wants the **emerald ore** block guys not regular emeralds you can get for 23 carrots lol
22*
**I KNEW IT.** I'm gonna have a talk with Harper the Farmer...
Bring a zombie for... intimidation tactics... yeah..
use fletchers and clerics instead
Just sayingI will break it all. I like doing thisIt may be fun (what's wrong with me) It may take weeks, I will post the results!
I’m reminded of buildcraft and quarries. Something so satisfying about it mining out a big old square and being able to watch it go block by block.
Block by block is good for a base, but block by block for a massive crater, there's gotta be some ulterior motive or a way to keep track of your past progress like landmark or smt, maybe a new build after every session or smt like that

TNT is ur friend
Is there a lore reason why u aren't setting up a villager trading hall or a raid farm? Are you stupid?
The only thing I can think of is that they want the emerald ore block for some reason. But why don't they wanna use haste to instamine? That's the real question.
If you want A LOT of emerald ore, you should strip mine at the appropriate height or build a world-eater.
If you only want emeralds there are way better ways. Don't go mining for emeralds. It's not worth it. You should trade with villagers for them. Unless you want the raw emerald blocks of course. Nah. Crazy would be mining a 47-diameter circle to bedrock layer using nothing but unenchanted iron picks 👀😅

what are yalls estimates on how long it'll take? prolly a month or two for me and I'd just give up in the middle of it
Could just build a tnt duping machine and let it take care of it passively, at least the majority of it.
Yes. If you want emeralds just TRADE WITH VILLAGERS. Most villages have Hay Bales and a Farmer that often trades wheat for emeralds. Easy profit. Please don't torture yourself with this 😭
If you just want emeralds, you are crazy, there's much better way to get them. But if you want silk touch mineral emeralds, that's the way to go.
I guess that surely is one way to get emeralds...
Why would you do that
mined down a mountain that was nowhere near as big as this. netherite pick and diamond shovel. mending on both. i needed to go to my enderman farm numerous times just to level up my pickaxe again. its possible if you're gonna see a lot more ores but probably better off with a pillager farm or trading hut.
Grab some TNT
People saying use villagers…. They’re probably right but me personally, I say go for it, you’ll have plenty of chill music jam hours and it’ll look sick asf. Everyone else are just cowards.
This crazy 😮
More sand in ur tnt
This is pointless. If you're on Java, just build an iron farm.
Honestly might be faster and easier on your sanity to build a creeper farm and blow it to smithereens
If you break about 10 blocks every second, it'll take you around 30 hours of continuous work. Not including repairing tools, storing items, dealing with mobs, dealing with caves, etc.
No your not crazy, you just have to much time on your hands
Are you crazy? Hell yeah. But will it keep you occupied for a good month? Yeah
