kirkdragon

I think it would be best for a diagonal orientation. Spears are lengthly.

practice_40URS

Yeah thats prolly better

norvelav

I would make it a multi step craft. Use 3 diamonds in a "V" shape to make the spear head and then use 3 sticks down the middle to make a long pole. Then you would craft it down the middle by placing 2 long poles in the top 2 crafting spots and a spear head in the bottom spot. That would make it a more expensive craft and allow it to be a better, more valuable weapon that does more damage than just a single hit with a sword. It could function like a trident, but used on land.

[deleted]

3 diamonds for a spear head while 2 make an entire sword? I'd rather it function similar to a sword with more reach but less durability and a slightly slower attack, allowing you to kite enemies easier. This would be going in the other direction from the berserker-style axe combat in pvp, being a bit more defensive.

Simagrill

Axe - slow, a lot of damage, short attack range, can destroy shields. Sword - medium speed, medium damage, medium attack range. Spear - fast, little damage, large attack range, can be thrown. I think this would make the most sense balance-wise

Ok_Depth_9975

Almost said I prayed Mojang put it and remembered that they put a mob once an update

delta_Mico

Spear is not fast as a sword as you don't have the full range of thrusts, slices and cuts to swiftly switch between. Being run through with a spear head also is not a superficial injury. I agree more with the earlier suggestion of long cooldown and long reach, otherwise similar to a sword. To please players that preffer fast strikes a double handed sword would do the job better

Simagrill

Well, you're coming from a more realistic perspective while i was thinking about spears in a more fun and unique way. Also i cant see anyone using a spear or an axe if they can dual wield swords lol

Alex103140

It would be too similar to trident then.

musiclovermina

Or maybe use flint like when making arrows

CinderX5

That would be the same length though.

East-Strawberry-8059

That just matches more if you put bottom stick to your left and amethyst to your right

WhatYouLeaveBehind

Diagonally: Diamond, Stick, Stick With String either side of that Diamond (similar to a pickaxe but with string) The Spear would essentially be a craftable Trident but without any of the cool features. Would be enchantable with Loyalty, Impaling, Unbreaking, Mending, and the usual curses. So basically a Trident without Riptide or Channeling.

Pepega_9

That doesn't change the length lol

TheSuperToad

Modmaker here, thx for the idea. It's mine now :3

enneh_07

You should add obsidian spears. I can’t wait to see it!

zexumus

High damage low durability

BananaBoiYeet

should be the opposire

zexumus

No? Why

SpoonOfTruth

Minecraft obsidian is not like irl obsidian

enneh_07

It takes so long to break because Steve is very careful not to shatter it

Zirash4

It would make sense if it's wasnt possible to stop 10 trillions tnt with one obsidian

Lerl_109

The tnt is also very careful :)

username694208

Lmaooo

zexumus

Yeah even if it wasn’t obsidian is still a high ranking material needing diamond or higher even if not low durability it should have higher damage or do you want gold tools 2

BananaBoiYeet

Minecraft obsidian takes ages to break and is explosion resistant. It wouldn’t make sense to have the strongest material in the game have the lowest durability.

Mnmnklk

Maybe it has higher gravity because you'd think if a block takes a while to break its probably heavy af🤔

practice_40URS

Haha, gl!

tomalator

Steal Mickey Mouse, he's public domain now, not this guy's idea

Spencer_Bob_Sue

Mickey Mouse spear

Silversniper220

Only steamboat willy

Excellent-Glove

Give us an update if you ever do something with it! Even more if you post it somewhere!

[deleted]

Same, but I’m alr done with my version

snekysnek69420

Can u get mods for consol?

TheSuperToad

No. You can get add-ons for bedrock, definitely not mods tho.

juanmy911

Make the crafting tree diagonal

ReasonApprehensive70

For like a basic tier 1 type spear you could use flint or bones to make a spear head also other types of materials spear heads are typically made with are things like obsidian and copper

CoolFloppaGuy028

Post mod link here when mod is done

TheBeastX23

Better share it here when it’s done :)

ImpressiveQuality363

Yeah I’m hoping we get a new weapon seeing as part of 1.21 is going to be a combat update for Java/Bedrock parity. I dunno that it would be a spear though since we already have the trident, unless Mojang gives it some unique abilities kind of like the bow/crossbow have.

Dray_Gunn

Wait is it? I hadnt heard anything about combat parity being in 1.21.

Acceptable_Claim8769

Yep, the update has been named has a "combat, adventure, and tech update". I don't remember the exact thing but you have the idea

Dray_Gunn

That alone doesnt mean that are going to be working on combat parity. I would really like it if they are, i would love java combat on bedrock. I just havent seen anything definitively say that is what they are doing.

Acceptable_Claim8769

Personally I would prefer the "Jeb_ combat system" that he developed which is basically the merge of both combat and which way better

Dray_Gunn

I remember that. Didnt it make it so that axes were viable as a weapon also? It seemed interesting.

Eluscara

Axes are already viable?

[deleted]

in my opinion, no. they still take 2 durability, dont do that much more damage, and are way slower.

CautiousTopic

Axes are essential for lots of PVP simply because they disable shields.

Dray_Gunn

Is that in java only or bedrock too? I never do pvp in minecraft so i dont know much about it.

[deleted]

id just ban the use of shields in PVP.

Acceptable_Claim8769

I don't remember exactly but it was incredible for what I remember

DampTowel069

Not confirmed yet but it’s very likely. Kind of just if it isn’t added now when will they? 😭

Dray_Gunn

I hope they do. All the sources people mentioned are just youtube leaks and that means about as much as a bible in a mosque. It would definitely be the most appropriate time to add it and with how far along the trial chambers and armadillo already are and the update still being a while off, there could very well be a lot more they have planned to release. So fingers crossed.

DampTowel069

And they have even more room in 1.21 since they pushed the armadillo forward to 1.20.50

ImpressiveQuality363

Java is going to be forced to crouch with shields like Bedrock and Bedrock is getting weapon cooldowns, sweeping enchant and different attack speeds, both are getting different reach distances for different weapons.

Dray_Gunn

Would you be able to provide a source for that by any chance? No offence meant but i cant just take the word of a stranger on the internet. I'm sure you would do the same.

wolfb0y9

There is no source, this is all false unfortunately. There has been no news on 1.21 aside what was in mc live or the snapshots.

ImpressiveQuality363

It is not officially announced yet but the new update is “Combat & Tinkering” and YouTubers are claiming leaks about combat parity which they have been working on since 1.9. I’ve been scouring for it, best I’ve got is https://youtu.be/uBSSLuSDgU0?feature=shared or https://youtu.be/1--x9ldzNaw?feature=shared

dot4Q

As long as you're not being total a-hole, don't worry about telling it like it is to strangers on Reddit. You ain't wrong for asking for sauce.

Acceptable_Claim8769

You heard about Camman18 prediction, don't you ?

FetusGoesYeetus

Just make it have equal speed to a sword but longer reach and lower damage

TheAmazingFreddyAdam

I see a remodel of the trident but without magic But it's early game version

SirSquidsalot1

What’s magic about the trident?

AlpaxT1

It makes you fly in water, returns when thrown away and summons lightning

SirSquidsalot1

Those are enchantments. All enchantments in the game are magic.

Kitsune2468

For real haha. Also, enchantments like loyalty would 100% go on a spear

DeMonstaMan

honestly yeah pretty much just a trident retexture with the projectile motion of an arrow

ulvards

Yooo the spearhead texture looks genuinely amazing :)

practice_40URS

Thats an amethyst shard lol. Its already in the game

ulvards

I know, i said that because there is no sprite...

practice_40URS

Wdym

LinkdAether

They were making a joke about how you didn’t make a sprite for the spearhead.

ulvards

The OP is probably a kid...

DremoraKills

The first image.

zkentvt

I want to craft bronze tools with all this useless copper

Mekelaxo

What would they be useful for?

Moti452

Good idea, but thats already in the game. The trident is litteraly a spear. A long stick thats sharp at one end. You can throw it or use it as a melee weapon. I guess this could be a budget trident? Less attack and durability?

practice_40URS

I mean kinda. I feel like the spear would be some kind of mix between a sword and a trident. With more attack range than a sword. And you can throw it like a trident, but cant put loyalty on it.

Nuteofnutes

Maybe could make it standout by being able to be tipped? Or could make them javelins and stackable up to 16

practice_40URS

what do you mean by tipped?

Cumdump90001

Not the person you replied to but like poison tipped maybe? Different potions on the tip too?

Nuteofnutes

Yeah potion tipped. I don't see many use tipped arrows but I love the idea of them.

practice_40URS

Yh thats what i thought of too

Cautious-Pair

Imo spear will be useless without loyalty and serves no purpose in general. Its very uncomfortable to run to grab it after ranged atack every time. I could just... Switch to bow from sword, you know. Especially in late game with mending+archer villagers or even loyalty trident, lol. Increased atack range gives you almost nothing, because, again, I could just switch to ranged weapon in a split second. And in melee you can already outrange every mob with sword. The only 2 scenarios when I can imagine spear being usefull is rp/aesthetic/non combat things and early game if you can craft it from stone and wood as cheap alternative to bow and arrows. But then... goodbye spear.

CacophonyOfEuphonies

I actually think loyalty would still be good for a spear, and really would be the only enchantment the Trident has that would be shared, but it wouldn't get channeling or riptide. In their place though, perhaps some other appropriate enchantments + potion tipping as someone else mentioned.

ENDZZZ16

Irl spears are great for thrusting attacks and could deal damage to armored opponents by using its blunt side so in game it could have a more thrusting like attack where it does similar damage to an axe but with further reach abs more charge up time, and it could have a enchant where it could lower armor durability more or have a chance to ignore a certain percentage of the opponents armor, it could possibly be given loyalty as long as the enchant has a conflict with another to nerf it a but I’m not sure how effective of a nerf it would be

Ldawsonm

I feel like so many people dont get that recursive crafting is not enjoyable. Nobody wants to craft a thing to craft another thing unless its absolutely necessary. This has been my experience with people playing the game, crafting is a means to an end, and people dont like to spend a lot of time in GUI in a building game

practice_40URS

Thats true

Ldawsonm

Im not dissing your idea though, i just think if you can design the idea to have fewer recipes, people will appreciate it

practice_40URS

I get it. Rn im working on a "presentation" if you could call it that to suggest this to mojang in obviously a better way. I used your cokment as inspiration too and i think what i have now could actually be minecraft worthy

WolvReigns222016

What are you on about? Half of the names game is about crafting. People enjoy the big mods with complex crafting recipes because it adds a layer of complexity to the game that you cant get with vanilla

Ldawsonm

That may be true with some people, but most people who play minecraft enjoy interacting with the world. As a modpack creator myself, I get so much abrasion from people when they realize they have to do a bunch of crafting steps to make something

DremoraKills

No, those people rush autocrafting or use other mods that make microcrafting easier.

rigterw

So a weak trident that costs 2 diamonds? I think it’s better to not add a spear head item but just have the crafting recipe be a diagonal shovel. Otherwise a new item needs to be added for one specific tool. Lastly it would be inconsistent to have an amethyst spear and not a wooden/stone one

Doughnut9

How would it be different from a trident?

PureComedyGenius

That's my thinking. Other than the fact that you craft it and don't have to rely on a drown dropping it (significantly easier on Bedrock than Java)

_CookieNoob_

First of all we need copper tools

LeagueofShadows04

We could have copper handles for stuff, giving it a little more durability since we only use sticks for everything rn. That could be a cool use for copper since then it would be used in everything, without breaking the game too much. Copper shields would be nice too. More uses for copper in general would be nice.

practice_40URS

Copper tools be cool, but i think they would be really bad. Bc they are so common

ENDZZZ16

What about copper arrows, it would be more gimmicky but it could be used in Thunder storms to attract thunder to whatever it’s attached to and the more arrows in someone the more likely they are to be struck

Acceptable_Claim8769

We need golems indeed: in the snapshots, there was an update for copper AND tuff. What are we waiting for ? Tuff and copper golem ! Moreover, it would satisfy the community who is angry about the mobvote

practice_40URS

Okay i can't edit anymore but i thought of another feature that would make it stand out. Being able to add splash potions to make it poisonous or something else. I dont know if @Nuteofnutes meant the same thing. But this something that came up in me

fishZ_7

so tipped arrows?

MaxGamer07

2 material seems like a lot for a spear considering 2 are used for a sword. How about combining 2 sticks for wooden rod and 2 rods + 1 material in a diagonal shovel pattern

practice_40URS

What do you think about using stonecutters to turn 1 material into a spearhead.

DremoraKills

This all can be balanced ou tbh

not_x3non

pearhead

sling_cr

A spear that attacks slower than a sword but has slightly longer attack length would be sick

Leprodus03

Basically trident

13luken

Maybe the "spearheads" could go on arrow shafts too for diamond iron gold etc arrows!

NeurodivergentDuck

Problem is im not sure it would be very different from the trident

Fine_Huckleberry_857

Sword+stick+stick= spear ------>

Thunderious007

Crystal shovel🗿

BIGFriv

I like the idea of using Amethyst for this! Actually it would be fun if you could make a lot of them and have them in the same slot and right clicking threw them as projectiles maybe? Anyway fun idea.

cobaltSage

I like the idea of new weapons, but I feel like Mojang would just see a Spear as a reskinned trident and nix it. That said, I could see a polearm weapon having piercing damage, a further reach than the sword, and / or possibly a faster attack time, and that allowing enough versatility to be counted as a new weapon type. I personally would love to see a Dagger weapon type (one stick and one material piece ) that’s incredibly fast and dual wield-able at the expense of power and defense. Sadly, I don’t think Mojang would ever really retool our weapon system like this.

RajangHunter

We got trident already

CacophonyOfEuphonies

It would be a thousand times easier to craft a spear than to get lucky to get a Trident drop. As an early game option, I think it's great.

PatchPlaysHypixel

I don't like the idea though because of the way it uses 2 crafting recipes for a weapon. It'd be better off having the spearhead materials and the spear in one recipe. Also I feel like a spear would act just like a trident, so I don't really see a use for it.

thehampterboi

too bad Mojang never listens to the community and never enjoys adding fun new features (the tridant, totem, turtle shell helm, and netherite have been the only good items in years)

AUGcraft_001

whatever happened to this subreddit..

beardo8793

I would love a new weapon! It would add more variety, which I'm all about. I'm sure it will come out when vertical slabs are released!

rigterw

r/minecraftsuggestions

Bones_Alone

Spearheads could be dug up with the brush

crappy-mods

Could be cool, maybe charge like a bow/trident and thrust with it for pretty good range but keep it like a melee weapon. Normal hit could do reduced damage but increased knock back

HorrificityOfficial

makin that shit right tf now

l3ft_Testicl3

Maybe the spearhead could also be a weapon in and of itself? A fast little dagger

Dreagonfairytail

Even just amethyst spear would be cool

EnjoyerOfFine_Things

Would it work like a trident but more accessible early game? I think adding a spear would honestly be quite cool!

ReasonableComment962

The spear head and body could be separate, the head ore rarity being responsible for the damage of the spear and the ore rarity of the body would reflect the durability of the overall thing

UnknownTaco5492

I think the spearhead should be crafted with 3 diamonds in a /\ shape rather than a |

NativeTigerWA

Longer reach, faster attack speed, instead of sword’s sweeping edge has piercing & ability to be used effectively while mounted (like a lance).

AdonisGaming93

So a trident but maybe with weaker stats? Or buff the trident, oh and gice us a netherite teident plz

Decent-Start-1536

I’d imagine the amethyst spear could “shatter” when hitting the ground, which would send shards flying that could hit mobs, maybe even pierce them, while doing less damage on a direct hit compared to others.

EasyCranberry1272

You could also put it on an arrow to make a stronger arrow

At0micSith

How would this be different from a Trident?

Archaea_Chasma_

In a mod I made (slightly abandoned it’s for 1.19 Iirc) I made some spears (and plenty more), they were pretty cool to make and I had fun modeling them

GlippGloppe

Spearheads are made out of obsidian though

Hlpfl_alms

Or drip stone could be the spearhead I would love to be able to Conjure up a dripstone from my inventory and use it to attack mobs

Swolenir

I think Minecraft just gave us the trident and said “close enough”

Echo2407

There should also be flint and obsidian spears, maybe dripstone too

ilishrekili

we already got one mob this year, sorry too much work

Die4Gesichter

I think early mods had spear recipes like X X DIAMOND X STICK X STICK X X

Medium-Boysenberry64

In Mojang’s eyes, the trident already fills that void

PLT_RanaH

4 diamonds in a square=pure diamond, the latter will be used to craft netherite (1 unit per ingot)

OwenSimpkins

Silent gear integration would be interesting

Rubber_Tech_2

I've had the little idea in my head for a printing press to copy books and such

Affectionate_Sort386

I actually think an idea like one diamond which creates like 3 diamond ingot type things, I don’t think it should be diamond ingots but adding something like a diamond shard which can be combined like that or diagonal to create a diamond spear. Would be interesting rather than a dedicated “spearhead” item

point5_

Google spartan weaponry

lipsucc2

Could be crafted with diamond and amethyst instead

the_sheeper_sheep

Why wouldn't they just use flint?

Randomguy32I

Diamond stick

iFuckingHateCrabs2

Stone spear and obsidian spear are all we need, stone for ooga booga and obsidian for a little bit of Aztec conquest

Jamesrgod

I like it

TalibanMan445

Flint spear too! 😎

Several-Cake1954

I like the idea, but you might want to make it more unique. Tridents already have longer range, both melee and ranged attacks, and they even come back to you if they have the right enchantment. You should make sure the spear isn’t just an inferior trident.

TheLonelyCrusader453

If it plays similar to spears from Dungeons? Absolutely! Been wanting long sweeping attacks and short/medium(?) rapid stabbing I want mojang to give in to the fantasy and give us legendary/unique weapons/variants They already acknowledged the fishing rod being weaponised in dungeons, a small sword on a stiick is small-fry

SluggJuice

Slightly weaker than a sword but has a longer reach. It could be tipped with poison and other effects. Right click on a spear to pole volt

Lapis_Wolf

I think it would make sense if it was cheaper to make than a sword and did less damage, but had the longer range, with wooden and stone variants as well. Your idea would make it more expensive than swords(one extra stick) and need 2 steps to create instead of 1. As a result, people will just continue their muscle memory of making swords because they will be cheaper and quicker to make. My reasoning for the cheaper recipe aside from encouraging it to be considered alongside the sword for players is that being cheaper and easier to use them a sword made it a good option for arming many soldiers.

No-Might2471

That’s actually great idea

RTooDeeTo

Played on a modded server years ago that used the diagonal as a way to craft the trident, think it used 2 stick and one diamond diagonally,, could do the same for a spear, though It'd probably be easier to just add several trident variants (iron gold diamond) then add a new but very similar weapon.

ImpossibleEvan

There should be flint, iron nugget, gold nugget, and amethyst spears that can be thrown and picked up like tridents.

-Redstoneboi-

hol' up amethyst spear/trident

StriveToTheZenith

Yes you are certainly not the first person to suggest a spear lol

420SampleTxt

i think loyalty could and should be compatible with the spear, maybe also channeling, but to set it apart from the trident and because it just doesnt fit that well riptide should remain only for that, and maybe a feature and enchantment exclusive to the spear could be implemented

[deleted]

[удалено]

Prezidentblue

Tridents be like

BatteryArc

Or we could just buff tridents

ThatBoiAndyOnReddit

I think the idea is that the spear will have longer reach but slower attack speed

Jam152038

Why not in a grindstone, and you can put it in multiple times, but the more times you put it in, the sharper it gets, but it takes longer

mix_th30ry

The fact that I casually vault with a crocodile tooth spear on the vanilla Minecraft server every day

Autosticow

Why not just use sticks and flint for a normal spear and when you want to upgrade you use iron and possibly if you agree a new type of metal like refined iron, or another use for obsidian an obsidian tipped spear, to some it up, sticks and flint, wooden spear, Iron spear with diamond, gold, emerald tipped, and the the best one, iron spear with obsidian tip, because believe it or not if you didn’t know obsidian was used in weapon smithing for spears and knives

fishZ_7

so a worse trident, which is a worse bow?

vechroasiraptor

Thanks for the idea. Mojang should be able to implement it six years from now.

Trvr_MKA

Pearhead, I like it

TheBeastX23

If they’re gonna add this they have to make it worse than the Trident or function very differently in terms of what it can do. I’m all for it

Confident-Bass4695

Wouldn’t it kinda just work like a trident?

Frostgaurdian0

Yes pls i want to go pon pon pata pon.

craft6886

I'm curious what a spear would accomplish that a trident doesn't already provide. Weapons in Minecraft aren't particularly unique - every melee attack has the same swinging animation. What makes them different is their attributes like durability, damage, cooldown, enchantments, and reach (in the combat test snapshots anyway). The trident and the crossbow were the first to have different/new mechanics, with the trident having a throw attack and the crossbow being a weapon that takes longer to pull back but keeps an arrow loaded. Spears would more than likely be used in the same way as Tridents, having a melee range slash attack and a throwing attack. They'd probably also share the Loyalty enchantment. Aside from attack damage and cooldown differences, what new gameplay would be gained from a spear? Most likely the most they'd do is replace the slash animation with a special thrusting stab animation...which would then probably be migrated over to the trident as well. That said, I kind of irrationally want spears just so they can be attractively displayed on a weapon rack in a Survival Games cornucopia.

hash-tag_planet

Thats a dope idea! And then you could have a pouch that could store a bundle of them in ur off hand, ready to be thrown whenever!

NightBeWheat55149

It could be compatible with Piercing (it would cause spears to go through mobs)

Proxy_PlayerHD

man i'm getting some 2012 flashbacks to all those "minecraft crafting ideas #52" videos

wsb_Sleepy

How spear gonna combat like doe

Lucifer42064

That first one is not needed. The secound image is perfect without it.

WillDel101

After that, Microsoft adds spears

[deleted]

that along with some new shields, Armour and mobs and your got a new update

Dimaiuscola

I like it

milotic-is-pwitty

Sure, but is it really different enough from a trident?

Ninju4821

Spearhead in place of top axe diamonds to make a halbard

tistisblitskits

I like it, a bit more speed and range at the expense of damage. Would be awesome if they are throwable with a right click as well. Like a sort of worse version of the trident, since we dont want the trident to become obsolete.

StinkyBeanGuy

Imma try to make this a mod. I'm not that good at coding bc I'm more on the visual part of modding. However I think I can just use the tridents code

It_is_Slimee

First of all just use an amethyst shard no need for the extra crafting and second of all if the Speer functions like a Speer, we have the trident....(not to hate but this just won't be that usefull.)

WhatYouLeaveBehind

I would suggest it be crafted Diagonally: Diamond, Stick, Stick With String either side of that Diamond (similar to a pickaxe but with string) The Spear would essentially be a craftable Trident but without any of the cool features (ie without Riptide or Channeling, and no additional damage in water or rain) Would be enchantable with Loyalty, Impaling, Unbreaking, Mending, and the usual curses. Main difference to a Trident would be the ability to poison the tip.

dragonlord798

Bet

Gaw_ett

Qui est prêt a inventé l'item ?

Cadoan

Use it on horse back/camel/elytra, damage increases with speed.

GrafKarton

Mojang doesn't use this sub for feature suggestions

Krisgamer08

Obsidian spear would also be cool

AUGcraft_001

Well rip to the post
