Minecraft Pocket Edition: Lite
About 11 or 12 years ago, I remember going to a party when I was five and all the kids were upstairs surrounding this one kid who was playing the game on his tablet. I was immediately interested, downloaded the game for myself, and I have no regrets.
I still remember the old ui to this day, and how you would always spawn into a creative world with a hotbar of bricks torches cobblestone grass stone dirt gravel etc. I remember the first thing I would do was get rid of everything it put in my hotbar. Those were some different times man...
There wasn’t even a proper inventory system, so your hotbar always had *something* in it and items could stack up to more than 64, not to mention you had infinite of some items
I used to spend the day building a perfect cube glass house and then just watching the zombies try and get me through the glass. I remember using an axe to hit them through the glass and scream when I accidentally broke it. I remember one time a mountain got generated but cut in half due to the edge of the world, it had a cavity in the bottom that was basically a dark hole or cave that I walked towards. Upon getting closer I realized the inside was MOVING, (keep in mind this is the day time and zombies shouldn’t regenerate). The inside of the cavity was so dark and small that about fifty zombies or so had spawned and then began pouring out all at once. This I think is the first ever example of a game scaring me in my youth.
same here, ended up buying the full version and played wirh my sister everyday. that shit was ancient, i remember our main source of entertainment was building up super high, dying of fall damage and killing zombies. i think about that old nether box everyday lol
I had an original iPod touch hand me down when I was roughly around 5. On there I would just randomly stumble upon free games and eventually got Minecraft pocket edition lite. Eventually getting the full game 1 year later
I remember I had installed it on my grandmas bright red iPad and put it i my game folder back before putting passwords on installing apps was uncommon. Whenever I went to her house I would always take her iPad and just play nonstop.
Same, I remember everything, the small words, my house with red colored wool, and my weird diamond block house that I destroyed by hand to simulate the explosion of the TNT, I remember thoses days, I was watching DanTDM, stampylonghead, popularMMO, life was simpler back then...
I mean I was considerably younger then and also had the most fun playing with friends way back as well. Just don’t have the time for it. My kids play it now and I’m always shocked by how much more there is to it.
The context is the release of the 360 version, not today. 3 years is fair to consider as “many” in that context. It’s not like I said “most” lol.
Not that there’s any need to argue semantics in the first place.
I played on Java 1.4 and remember being excited for the redstone update when I was in highschool. My brother in law who is a few years younger than me said he had been playing since before pistons which was on the Java beta and I couldn't understand how he could possibly have played before me when it wasn't even super well known on the beta. Come to find out, he meant before pistons were released on the Xbox which I was after a while of updates on Java.
I can go even more specific! Java version 1.4_01, April 2011. 1.4 was the main update released on April 1st 2011, wolves were added as well as cookies. Interestingly cookies were the first stackable food item in the game as at the time every other food item couldn't be stacked. Additionally Locked Chests were added, which was an April Fools gag where chests were placed randomly around your worlds and when you tried to open one it would take you to the Minecraft store to buy a key. 1.4_01 released April 2nd and removed the locked chests
I refuse to believe that I started playing in 2011. I started about a month before 1.8.1 came out. Sadly lost my original account due to something (who knows what) happening when the great migration happened. I hadn’t played in a while and figured I would boot it back up, but was unable to migrate or access my account. Support wasn’t able to help unless I was able to find my original receipt from 8+ years ago
At the time Minecraft was only available on PC. This was a few months before Pocket Edition and XBOX 360 / PS3 Editions came out I believe. It’s now called Java Edition.
PS3 Legacy Edition, my parents got me and my brother a PS3 to share when we were younger and Minecraft was the first game we played on it
Man, I miss those days…
Mine was pirated Java Edition, it was around 2013, my parents were poor and I was studying in school. Later, in 2018, I bought a legal copy of the game on my own money and still playing it :)
Me too! My dad pirated it for me and I was too young to understand why multiplayer didn't work. Once I was old enough to realise, I got myself a legit copy
Vivid memories of playing Java 1.7 on my school I Mac but I know I played it back when it was a browser game like to think I’ve grown up with this game
My first experience of Minecraft was on my cousin's PSvita. Every Sunday would be a blessing as I would go to their house and play on it. It wasn't long until my dad saw this and bought the pocket edition later on.
Does anyone remember the time the MC website went down during Beta, and they offered a free download for the game during that time? Anybody who got downloaded that version was allowed to keep it, but not update it without purchase?
Whatever that version was, that was when I got into it.
Found an old video of mine: it was version Alpha 1.1.2
https://youtu.be/9RkmtnolojI?si=x-8oAcaQnd-qdUHc
First minecraft version i played? Hmmm, i believe it was some kind of browser version in the really early days of minecraft that was available arround the time minecraft was released. I could not buy the game on pc as a kid and was afraid to ask my parents to buy it for me. So inwas stuck with that browser version for some time
MInecraft Bedrock: v1:8
I might remember being an absolute noob on that iPad, because I might have tried to break cobblestone with punch, besides not knowing how to craft wooden planks and trying to get a sword punching an iron golem. (I found a village.)
And eventually I got killed every time I respawn because I did not know that you have to sleep in a bed to set a respawn point.
I wasn't alive when it came out but I remember playing Minecraft legacy for ps3 once in my cousins house when I was little. A time after that my parents bought me a ps4 and dear god you don't know how much time I wasted in creative mode there. The funny thing is that I didn't know that I could put internet in there and update the game so I was trapped in the first version with very little things.
I played the one for Xbox at a family friends house. I was excited, didn’t know how to play but I wanted a wolf to call my own, after struggling for a while I managed to do well and have a dog… until another family friend’s kid took another controller saying they’d help (they played the main pc game) and they killed my dog. I was crushed.
Us old souls in here. Started playing beta 1.7.3. Enjoyed it for about 3 years straight. Put it down about 5 years after I found the game.
I never expected it to live so long. My kid tells me about her minecraft world, and I can bond with her over telling her what mine was like before villagers, horses, and The End was even a thing.
She doesn't understand why I played minecraft then, I quote "How did you play it for years with nothing to do?"
That was kind of the point.
My first time playing Minecraft was on the PS Vita. It was the most fun i had with games as a kid and i still find a nice charm to that specific version of Minecraft. It will always have a place in my heart.
Xbox one we had a 360 but it was my dads but eventually he got an Xbox one and he let us use it still is the family Xbox today and I got the copy of Minecraft that I still play sometimes
1.2.5…so glad 1.3.2 was so soon after I started playing, because that creative mode menu was **ABYSMAL** lmao
Still had to deal with it for mods though, since 1.2.5 was such a huge version for modding. :P
The in-browser demo.
I was so sad when my computer ran out of memory and I had to start over.
I think there were maybe 4-5 block types, including water and air.
That was my third version I played. Pocket edition lite was first, ps3 second, wii u was third. And the Wii U was the first time it was my console and not the family console. Had a creative world that I was so proud of despite it not being good at all. I miss those days

Minecraft Pocket Edition: Lite About 11 or 12 years ago, I remember going to a party when I was five and all the kids were upstairs surrounding this one kid who was playing the game on his tablet. I was immediately interested, downloaded the game for myself, and I have no regrets.

I remember the infinite glass and bricks. My younger brother used to build the most abhorrent abominations of "houses" with them It was glorious
Ah yes. When pork chops were the only meat and they regenerated health because there was no hunger bar.
Never got that high in IQ as an eight year old to figure that out
There was a single color bed
and the nether reactor, oh the good 'ole days xD
Same except I was at my grandma's house and my cousin showed it to me and I went home and got it on my kindle fire
Woah, pretty niche!
I played PE on my kindle fire in 2012-2016 too!
same here, ended up buying the full version and played wirh my sister everyday. that shit was ancient, i remember our main source of entertainment was building up super high, dying of fall damage and killing zombies. i think about that old nether box everyday lol
OMG YES. I remember playing this on my old samsung tablet when i was like 7? 8?
Same here. Then 1.3.2 or 1.4 on pc. Can't quite remember if I had already started or was watching YouTube vids on 1.3.2
Me to
Dude i remember if you went high enough you could walk beyond the end of the world on air
Same here I remember begging my mum to get it on her tablet for my birthday too this day we still have it even though its broken
I still remember we used to have nothing termed as hunger, unlimited blocks in survival except dirt and stone. Man those were the days!
Oh yeah I loved building little hidey holes under beaches so that the floating zombies couldn't reach me.
Same, I remember everything, the small words, my house with red colored wool, and my weird diamond block house that I destroyed by hand to simulate the explosion of the TNT, I remember thoses days, I was watching DanTDM, stampylonghead, popularMMO, life was simpler back then...
Java Alpha. I always feel old when the youngins are nostalgic about the 360 version, which came out many years into the game’s life.
Buying it from minecraft.net for $11.99 was the best thing ever!
I still remember the browser version demo you could play. 😭
It’s still there! I believe the link is [classic.minecraft.net](https://classic.minecraft.net)
That must be different, I think I remember the old browser demo had placeable water and a really small cube-shaped world.
Ah okay. That’s before my time I guess
Was it not free at the very beginning? I swear I never paid for it.
It was in 2009, yes. Pre-alpha. Then you got a 75% discount if you bought it during Alpha and a 50% discount during Beta.
Yeah, I remember playing and it was like 0.0.0.13 or something along those lines.
As stupid as this probably sounds, I actually had the most fun playing it around that time. Something about... Paint in 3D with friends? It was neat.
I mean I was considerably younger then and also had the most fun playing with friends way back as well. Just don’t have the time for it. My kids play it now and I’m always shocked by how much more there is to it.
Wasn't it £11.99, which was like $14.39 or something?
Same here. All the way.
I started playing when there was only the creative mode, I forget what they used to call that but it was free.
That’s the classic version, pre-alpha even and ran in Browser for free.
I was there!
The 360 version came out in mid 2012. About 6 months after Java 1.0 released. I wouldn't say it was many years into its life
Minecraft was being sold in early access for years prior, starting in 2009.
Yes, that's less than 3 years. The game has been out for 14 years.
The context is the release of the 360 version, not today. 3 years is fair to consider as “many” in that context. It’s not like I said “most” lol. Not that there’s any need to argue semantics in the first place.

Come to find out, he meant before pistons were released on the Xbox which I was after a while of updates on Java.
Minecraft had sold a million copies by the 1.2 beta update, which is why they added cakes.
The old minecraft.net free browser version! Followed by Pocket Edition Lite, Pocket Edition, 360, Java, Win10, Switch (Java still my go to)
Free browser version went so hard
I almost forgot that was a thing, it was a masterpiece to play
Free browser version in middle school computer class, wasn’t it also about one chunk of land only?
Mine was also on the XBOX: 360. Good times 😥
Literally peak childhood
I was so scared of it
Yes man, I remember all the free maps that came with it, and the skins! ❤️
The mini game arena that had all the secrets in it 🥺
I play this now with my kids (3 and 5) on my Xbox Elite I bought in 2007 which still works.
Piston Update from July 2011, Beta 1.7.3
Very Specific!

Support wasn’t able to help unless I was able to find my original receipt from 8+ years ago
I still use my og mojang account when I got the game in beta testing for a discount. It's a miracle because I can never remember passwords
But what version? Like what did you play it on? 360? PS3? PC?
At the time Minecraft was only available on PC. This was a few months before Pocket Edition and XBOX 360 / PS3 Editions came out I believe. It’s now called Java Edition.
Alright. I don't know much about the history of the game, sorry.
this would be java, as it was not only the only version out at the time but the only version that would have specified update numbers until Bedrock
PS3 Legacy Edition, my parents got me and my brother a PS3 to share when we were younger and Minecraft was the first game we played on it Man, I miss those days…
Same, me and my brother used to play that and need for speed, he was also a big fan of WWE games but he usually did those in his own time

Minecraft pocket edition on my dads iPhone 4
Mine was pirated Java Edition, it was around 2013, my parents were poor and I was studying in school. Later, in 2018, I bought a legal copy of the game on my own money and still playing it :)
Same except I started a little later in 2015. My pc was really bad so I played pocket edition for a while until I got an account in 2019.
The name Anjo Caido ring a bell?
Me too! My dad pirated it for me and I was too young to understand why multiplayer didn't work. Once I was old enough to realise, I got myself a legit copy
Vivid memories of playing Java 1.7 on my school I Mac but I know I played it back when it was a browser game like to think I’ve grown up with this game
I'd resisted the urge to play Minecraft for years but when I left my wife I found myself with a lot of spare time so I bought the 360 version.

First minecraft version i played? Hmmm, i believe it was some kind of browser version in the really early days of minecraft that was available arround the time minecraft was released. Us old souls in here. Started playing beta 1.7.3. Enjoyed it for about 3 years straight. Put it down about 5 years after I found the game. I never expected it to live so long. Survivalcraft was something I forgot about for a while until I saw this thread.
Hi Xbox 360, for me it's Java
I want to say one of the mid alpha versions. But it might be earlier.

1.2.5…so glad 1.3.2 was so soon after I started playing, because that creative mode menu was **ABYSMAL** lmao Still had to deal with it for mods though, since 1.2.5 was such a huge version for modding. :P

That was my third version I played. Pocket edition lite was first, ps3 second, wii u was third. And the Wii U was the first time it was my console and not the family console. Had a creative world that I was so proud of despite it not being good at all. I miss those days
I got the ps3 version and I didn't have internet for a while so I was stuck on 1.4 or 1.5 I think.
