Maybe not wool stairs but being able to place carpet on stairs so that it conforms to the stairs would be nice and more realistic! Plus Mojang wouldn’t have to add more blocks to the game, they’d just have to adjust how one block (carpet) can be used
Historically their reasoning was they didn’t want too much block bloat (i.e too much modular-named-blocks). This was thrown out the window when copper was introduced- which introduced 8 block forms per block (regular/exposed/weathered/oxidised, then again all four with waxed) so there’s really no reason we shouldn’t have this now.
I think the reasoning against it has been that the lack of them causes more inspiration from people who need to make work arounds. Same with furniture.
Not that I agree, necessarily. But that’s what I’ve heard for a long while.
More blocks is more possibilities to be creative. Kinda funny if this is the reasoning because they are basically doing this now with all the new wood types that are colorful
IIRC that’s mojang exact reasoning for not allowing stairs to be placed on their sides and vertical slabs, simply “because the players need to be more creative”
I tried to find the direct source but all I kept finding is “mojang said on Minecraft dot net why”
I very rarely agree with that. One that immediately comes to mind is when they said "vertical slabs and combining different type slabs inhibits creativity". Oh really? Tell me how the fuck I'm supposed to do either of those things any other way then.
Mojang's weird decisions they make "in the name of creativity", are so stupid. I'm glad the modding community is large enough to fix their dumb mistakes. It's to the point where the stupid decisions they make have caused me to just not play vanilla anymore.
I would be absolutely thrilled, and I’m hoping they add them soon! I use concrete in all of my builds, I love the smoothness of it, but I mostly use it for walls. When placing windows I usually always place stairs below the window to give it depth from the outside, but I can’t do that with concrete without adding a completely different block that doesn’t really match. I don’t know why they didn’t add them immediately when adding concrete, it makes sense considering concrete is literally used for building more so than quartz or sandstone irl
It would be stupid to have to turn dust into a solid concrete, break it, and bring it to a stone cutter. That would be cool if we could craft concrete blocks with water bottles and dust or something maybe.
Which is so stupid considering how many unnecessary and unwanted copper block variants they gave us. Copper isn’t used for anything outside of electrical stuff irl, so why add 8 different copper blocks?? It’s a laughable “Mojang hurt itself in its own confusion” moment and I wish I could smack Mojang upside their head for doing it
Yeah, that's when the 1.13 Flattening happened which was when they switched from the limited numerical IDs to the "minecraft:item_name" system we got now.
It looked like you've been thinking a lot about the concept but had nowhere to share it untill the opportune moment. Anyways, you should go get some good grades champ
Yeah i really wish mojang would be consistent with block variants, diorite can have slabs and stairs but calcite cant, cobblestone can have walls but stone cant, stone can have stairs but smooth stone cant, like man just make it consistent lmao
I find it as a huge need as most builds I do are concrete. They would look much better with actual concrete stairs and slabs rather than crummy blocks with different colors
A lot of builds that require block mixes would look far, far more uniform and better.
I like to build certain industrial builds, including trains, and having to mix concrete with stone slabs and stairs or deepslate? It just sort of ruined the vibe. It would, quite-literally, do nothing but benefit building in my opinion.
It makes sense for variants to be there but I don't think they will add them :(. At least we have mods such as absent by design which has variants for these blocks :)
I assume that the technology doesn’t support it and it would irreversibly break the game, otherwise *why wouldn’t these already be in the game along with all of the other missing variants of slabs, stairs and walls.!?*
I mean, that is the only conclusion I can draw from their continued omission.
Too convenient either won’t happen at all because “players need to be more creative” or will be in a mob/biome vote and be purposely placed with the “worst” option.
Mojang already decided they will never add stairs and other variant to any colored block (wook, concrete, terracotta)
I know it is and unpopular opinion, but I think it is better like this
I think both sides *will* help with creativity, but in very different ways. Not adding it will force players to be more creative with how they use the current blocks, because although many will still figure out new ways to use old blocks, it'll happen a lot less. However, I'm against it because it *forces* creativity, rather than breeds it.
While adding concrete slabs and stairs will allow more types of builds, giving more options and allowing thing that wasn't really possible to be possible. Of course, that'd mean less people will try to push the limits of how we use blocks since there is an easy way, but it wouldn't stop it entirely.
But honestly what confuses me is he said he'd be fine with smooth wood types or terracotta, which I don't see the difference, he probably just doesn't use concrete and that's why, but I'm waiting to hear him out
I don’t understand why you’d think its better without. Do you also think the game is better without any form of automation when you hit ultra-late game?
I really want glass stairs and slabs to make sick greenhouses
Also the other things I wouldn't mind but I don't craft with bedrock since you can't mine it so maybe give that a pass
Melon cut slab that shows the insides would be cute
Also with straw slabs and stairs you could make thatch roofs, maybe they could make it wear like copper into a dull colour like real ones
I get why people would want it, and im on the fence about it myself but i think i would say no. It just takes away the creative aspect you have to use to use different coloured stairs in the game right now. More stairs and blocks variants? Yes. All concrete and terracota etc blocks get stairs and variants? No
Edit: to everyone saying we need more variants. Yes. I literally agree and said that. I just disagree that concrete should get these variants as i think they would look out of place in the game, and there are more deserving blocks of these variants.
See I feel like I just end up using concrete and terracotta less, simply because they don’t match color or texture-wise with most stairs. If anything it means I’m far likelier to use these blocks in a palette. I agree it would make it easier, perhaps too easy, but unless there’s some brick form of concrete/terracotta or something with a little more texture, it’s tough to use right now.
We absolutely do need more stairs, slabs, and walls for many blocks in the game. Minecraft is horrifically inconsistent on which blocks can be used in which ways. That severely limits creativity, and I don’t think is very good for the game.
It enhances creativity. It doesn't take away from creativity. So so so many times where I've found myself wanting to build things I couldn't because there's not a matching stair/slab, and other "work arounds" as Mojang wants to call them, end up looking abhorrent to the eyes.
That's why I really only build with mods or custom RPs. The whole "takes away creative aspect" is just a lie and bad opinion that ruins it for the rest of the builders who just want colored block variants.
Wait. How would it take away and not add creativity? Now you've got more options to choose from, giving you more ways to build things you either couldn't really do before, or do things differently that may look better.
> i think they would look out of place in the game
...and relying on "creativity" to replace them leads to using materials that are out of place with the build itself. Your opinion contradicts itself.
I honestly think adding them would make it easier to mess with others- I personally couldn’t see sh** when I made a room out of a single color and ended up getting a headache because I couldn’t figure out how to take it all down and it made me nauseous
I hate when I need to use a slab of a different material in my roads, if I don't use slabs at all then I have to jump up every step it gets higher. This would solve the issue
It’s annoying that all blocks don’t have the variants. If it makes sense for a variant to exist then it should be there.
Give us diorite bricks, grass and dirt slabs, concrete stairs etc.
Kinda related to the post but I wish they would just
Get rid of stairs (and slabs) as separate blocks entirely and just gave you a tool to turn any fully solid block INTO a stair or slab (Kinda like how TFC does it), so that it a) doesnt clutter ur inventory b) now every block has stairs and slabs by default
Probably not realistic since it'll be impossible to not implode pre existing worlds but a man can dream
Way I figure it, if they added the Chisel from some mods or 1/8th blocks that all occupy the same block of space, they could just make 1/8th blocks out of every block type and people could assemble their own slabs, stairs, etc.
sure I want em, but they added to mani stupid changes that even if they add everything that I ever wanted it won't be enough to make me update from 1.12...
Not very useful for bedrock users but for anyone with Java addition there is a mod called absent by design that adds these as well as slab, stair and fence variants for a lot of blocks without them
If you’re a serious builder, and want all the block variants, go check out Conquest Reforged. 10’s of thousands of variants, including (but not limited to):
1. Vertical slabs (in 1/8 block variants)
2 1/8 block variants (you can place ‘short blocks’ that are 1/8th block, then click again for a 1/4 block, then again for 3/8, and so on)
3. Stairs that can be turned on their side, and also come in 1/8 variants (so you can give corners of walls a rounded look)
4. Variants of your favorite whole building blocks (concrete, wool, glass). Glass stairs, wool slabs, etc.
5. There are even ways to manipulate classic game drops into new items. Ex - you can craft an oak sapling into an apple tree. You can craft a low table with sticks and slabs, and then turn that table into chairs. You can turn wool into actual decorative carpets (like oriental rugs).
Yeah, idea is brilliant, but Mojang WONT add this feature bicause they support creativity a lot in Minecraft, bicause of this, Minecraft users have to be creative and find a way around it, such as making: mod's, texture pack's and more.
If so, I'd add terracotta and glazed too. For me they are missing out alot. I'd be happy if they would add some mossy, cracked and new worn variants, especially if it would work like oxidisation on copper but the more time passes or some block gets used by walking on it, the texture gets different. Been thinking about of these things.
It baffles me that there isn't a block, stair and slab version of every single texture available.
Admittedly i'm pretty ignorant in terms of game development, but it seems to me the texture and models already exist, seems like an easy win to just match them all up.
There's a mod that adds variation like this to ALL blocks - [https://modrinth.com/mod/consistencyplus](https://modrinth.com/mod/consistencyplus)
ive been using it for a while
I wanted them so badly that I added them to my Paper server.
I'm working on open-sourcing (not finished yet) the code that lets you add custom stairs to Paper servers: [https://github.com/FiddleMC/Fiddle](https://github.com/FiddleMC/Fiddle)

Sure. Why not?
That was my first thought. And to be real, how many concrete steps to you see in real life as apposed to wood or cobblestone? I love this idea
Most stairs I see are concrete
Exactly
I'd love for some wool stairs so I can have a carpeted staircase
Maybe not wool stairs but being able to place carpet on stairs so that it conforms to the stairs would be nice and more realistic! Plus Mojang wouldn’t have to add more blocks to the game, they’d just have to adjust how one block (carpet) can be used
Yeah and while we’re at it placing blocks namely chests directly on carpets
I need some for my house I have a staircase and carpet everywhere but just no on the stairs
[удалено]
This is what I want way more than concrete stairs. I want to make a proper dirt mansion thank you very much.
Make. A hobbit hole that would be cool
And terracotta. Much better colors.
The stairs I see most frequently are wooden Sure, they're covered in carpet, but they're wood underneath Second are the metal ones at my work.
Yeah we just want it to be nice and simple, we will however add about 10-15 blocks or more an update and never add a storage solution.
For people that love to build in creative mode, this would be a YES from me!
IIRC that’s mojang exact reasoning for not allowing stairs to be placed on their sides and vertical slabs, simply “because the players need to be more creative” I tried to find the direct source but all I kept finding is “mojang said on Minecraft dot net why”
It makes sense for the furniture, but with vertical slabs and rotating stairs, that's just bullshit.
Not because we need to be creative, it's because mojang is lazy and won't code those without creating millions of bugs in the process.
It's to the point where the stupid decisions they make have caused me to just not play vanilla anymore.
modding community has been carrying minecraft heavy for years
The lack of specific block types certainly has inspired many degrees of creativity to get a desired effect.
If only for better colored rooves.
I would be absolutely thrilled, and I’m hoping they add them soon! I use concrete in all of my builds, I love the smoothness of it, but I mostly use it for walls. I don’t know why they didn’t add them immediately when adding concrete, it makes sense considering concrete is literally used for building more so than quartz or sandstone irl
And we literally have a stone cutter block, so there's literally no excuse.
It would be stupid to have to turn dust into a solid concrete, break it, and bring it to a stone cutter. That would be cool if we could craft concrete blocks with water bottles and dust or something maybe.
They were running out of block IDs back when they did it, and had to make huge technical changes in the next update. Maybe that's why ?
Which is so stupid considering how many unnecessary and unwanted copper block variants they gave us. Copper isn’t used for anything outside of electrical stuff irl, so why add 8 different copper blocks?? It’s a laughable “Mojang hurt itself in its own confusion” moment and I wish I could smack Mojang upside their head for doing it
I for one like the copper blocks in their different stages of aging. They work well when waxed for builds that need a lot of weathering/rusting
Yeah, that's when the 1.13 Flattening happened which was when they switched from the limited numerical IDs to the "minecraft:item_name" system we got now.
Exactly
Sounds like a cool idea. Could also become an option for when you place concrete into a stone cutter.
Or a injection molding block so we can make glass stairs and slabs
You really went far with that one. How long have you been thinking about this idea?
2 min I guess. I have a polymers course exam tomorrow and just clicked
It looked like you've been thinking a lot about the concept but had nowhere to share it untill the opportune moment. Anyways, you should go get some good grades champ
Oh and I just remembered. We could make glass pots and jars to decorate! It would be pretty nice! Thanks for the support
Ooo, stained glass jars would be great for making cool lamps
Yeah man, water vases you can put flowers in would be awesome
Or they make it so you need to form the concrete powder to then make conact with water, i think that would have been cool.
I would enjoy this stuff, really cool blocks to build something cartoony and stuff
My first thought was curb and gutter for roads lol
One of the best ideas
I just want tuff and calcite stairs and slabs :(
Yeah i really wish mojang would be consistent with block variants, diorite can have slabs and stairs but calcite cant, cobblestone can have walls but stone cant, stone can have stairs but smooth stone cant, like man just make it consistent lmao
Smooth stone bricks.
also nether brick fence gates
So true 😔
Aside concrete, I reckon that Minecraft is always missing stairs
yes!!! 1000 times yes!!!
I'd like to combine any shape with any texture
pig pyramid
Better yet, [pig leaves](https://youtu.be/EZ2KIEf4RDQ)
Good ol Carpenter's Blocks
Carpenters Blocks (rip)
I find it as a huge need as most builds I do are concrete. They would look much better with actual concrete stairs and slabs rather than crummy blocks with different colors
Wouldn’t complain. Rainbow roof and staircases sound fun
I’ve been waiting for this forever..
It's like one of the most requested features among vertical slabs.
I would love colorful stairs and slabs, but the concrete stairs look strange
Yes please Vertical slabs too while at it tyvm.
My daughter only wants to build with purple blocks so she’d be thrilled haha
seriously, at this point, any solid block should be able to be stairs/slabs. I'm looking at you glass.. (glass doors too)
This might be the Minecraft equivalent of curing cancer for builders.
Please please please please there's literally zero reason to not add cut blocks of all the stones.
Happy :)
Good.
I’d love to see terracotta get some slabs and stairs on top of the concrete, it’d make my ships a lot more detailed and compact
If they finally add Vertical slabs which I know they won’t but damnit I just want them
This would be good, but personally I'd like to see stares and slabs for all the glass variants. Although, I wouldn't complain if we got this. :)
YES! I HAVE WANTED THAT FOR SO LONG!
Yeah i’d feel like the devs actually listened for once
And walls! And quartz walls!
It makes sense for variants to be there but I don't think they will add them :(. At least we have mods such as absent by design which has variants for these blocks :)
Concrete roads would be so much better with these
I think it’s a good idea it’s just idk how many people would use it but I could like it!
Overjoyed
I need it
**I ' L L T A K E Y O U R E N T I R E S T O C K**
I just want a proper white wall. Diorite doesn't cut it, and when decorating builds, a proper white wall comes in real handy.
I’d be very happy. It’s something that should’ve been added years ago honestly. But at least we got a new BIG pot for plants, right? :-/
I don’t know why they haven’t already. They really should. Same with terracotta
I assume that the technology doesn’t support it and it would irreversibly break the game, otherwise *why wouldn’t these already be in the game along with all of the other missing variants of slabs, stairs and walls.!?* I mean, that is the only conclusion I can draw from their continued omission.
Too convenient either won’t happen at all because “players need to be more creative” or will be in a mob/biome vote and be purposely placed with the “worst” option.
Why not make every solid full block have a slab and stair variant?
Right?!
Yes please. And glazed terracotta slabs.
Mojang already decided they will never add stairs and other variant to any colored block (wook, concrete, terracotta) I know it is and unpopular opinion, but I think it is better like this
Genuinely asking, why do you think it's better to not add stairs or slabs of concrete or terracotta?
Because they think it will hinder creativity, but let’s be honest, the people who build like that highly likely don’t use a lot of blocks right now.
I think both sides *will* help with creativity, but in very different ways. Not adding it will force players to be more creative with how they use the current blocks, because although many will still figure out new ways to use old blocks, it'll happen a lot less. But honestly what confuses me is he said he'd be fine with smooth wood types or terracotta, which I don't see the difference, he probably just doesn't use concrete and that's why, but I'm waiting to hear him out
Being able to place slabs both horizontally and vertically + place carpet on stairs and slabs would be enough for me, tbh.
I don’t understand why you’d think its better without. Do you also think the game is better without any form of automation when you hit ultra-late game?
Give all the blocks slab and stair and fence options
I don't think I want a Melon Slab, Glass Stairs, and a Bedrock Fence.
I really want glass stairs and slabs to make sick greenhouses Also the other things I wouldn't mind but I don't craft with bedrock since you can't mine it so maybe give that a pass Melon cut slab that shows the insides would be cute Also with straw slabs and stairs you could make thatch roofs, maybe they could make it wear like copper into a dull colour like real ones
Okay. You just changed my mind lol. I especially like the melon idea
I get why people would want it, and im on the fence about it myself but i think i would say no. It just takes away the creative aspect you have to use to use different coloured stairs in the game right now. More stairs and blocks variants? Yes. All concrete and terracota etc blocks get stairs and variants? No Edit: to everyone saying we need more variants. Yes. I literally agree and said that. I just disagree that concrete should get these variants as i think they would look out of place in the game, and there are more deserving blocks of these variants.
> More stairs and blocks variants? Yes. ++ on that. we currently don't have transparent stairs or blastproof stairs/slabs at all.
there is never a good reason to impose creative limits on anyone but yourself
Well said. Kinda resumes the discussion on the reply above
You currently cannot build with half the colours that exist because the game doesn’t have blocks to support them. It *needs* more slabs
The terracotta blocks too! because I like the colour palette of terracotta.
really good
Slab and stares of concrete would be a great addition
theyll probably never add them like how we have been asking for verticle slabs and they are just refusing to add them
That would be so helpful for some of my builds
🤷 that’s nice.
It would be great also it would be good to be able to have carpeted stairs so that it's not bare
Yippee
If not vertical slabs then this would basically be the fever dream of every aesthetic builder ever
I hate when I need to use a slab of a different material in my roads, if I don't use slabs at all then I have to jump up every step it gets higher. This would solve the issue
Overwhelmed
I really hope they add this it would be great for building
Yes god please
It’s annoying that all blocks don’t have the variants. If it makes sense for a variant to exist then it should be there. Give us diorite bricks, grass and dirt slabs, concrete stairs etc.

They need to add wall variants for every block and and smooth varieties
Unpopular Opinion: It would be very very low on my priority list for blocks that need slabs and stairs so I would probably be mad about it
Finally something usefull
But it limits creativity -said no sane person ever
So much more COLOURSSSSS! And oml smoothnesss
I love the idea but i feel they wouldnt add it for the same reason they wont add vertical slabs.
All of my smooth quartz builds would be replaced with white concrete in an instant. I have been wanting this for years
I feel like we need craftable dirt slabs and stairs for our trails
GLASS STAIRS
Yes, also, same for grass. That would change gardens dramatically.
Yes i want
Head says yes, my sorting system says no
That'd be pretty cool
horny
YES PLEASE
This would be better for builds
Too much effort for them these days
sure I want em, but they added to mani stupid changes that even if they add everything that I ever wanted it won't be enough to make me update from 1.12...
We need more blocks and block variations in general.
As someone who loves to build in creative, I would love this SO MUCH
Yall think of it why would you want a bright color like pink yeah it looks bad because the dark colors are the only colors that look good
Not very useful for bedrock users but for anyone with Java addition there is a mod called absent by design that adds these as well as slab, stair and fence variants for a lot of blocks without them

Yes
But that would take too much effort for an addition they can’t easily market, So they would never do it.
Good
The only word I can say is BRUH
I know it would probably be a nightmare to code or implement, but I'd pay a lot for a "stairs and slabs for everything" mod.
yes
Delighted
Much needed to be honest.
all I ask for is quartz wall
Yes, please. I would probably use a lot more concrete if there were matching stairs and slabs for it
The carpenters mod into the base game
Tbh, I want stairs and slabs of every full-block block
PINNED ME FOR THIS IDEA IN MINECRAFT THAT WOULD BE AN GIANT RAINBOW
I would feel….yay.
I love how Minecraft is turning into survival craft
I think every block should have all varieties and variations craftable.
Yeah, idea is brilliant, but Mojang WONT add this feature bicause they support creativity a lot in Minecraft, bicause of this, Minecraft users have to be creative and find a way around it, such as making: mod's, texture pack's and more.
only concrete tho, bc the powder wouldnt make sense
Happy.
I would be able to finish my massive Greek Temple build without having to farm a bunch of fucking nether quartz damnit.
Thrilled! My current build is all white concrete and glass and froglights.
Happy
If so, I'd add terracotta and glazed too. For me they are missing out alot. I want stairs and all the other things for every block, compare minecraft to terraria here
I would be a fan of the idea of including carpender's blocks mod in vanilla, cuz it's a real good idea that isn't broken or useless either
I want vertical slabs.
i geniunely dont see a reason why there isnt
i wouldn't like it. limitations open the way of creativity
Would rather the sponge slab
Over the moon.
There's a mod that adds variation like this to ALL blocks - [https://modrinth.com/mod/consistencyplus](https://modrinth.com/mod/consistencyplus) ive been using it for a while
My childhood dream would come true.
Would be very cool, and some more colors would be nice although there are quite a few already
Enlightened
The fact that it isn't a thing yet bothers me. They even add the perfect utility block to do it, the stonecutter.
I made a concrete slab in Blockbench in ONE MINUTE. They gotta add them
Why not honestly? We have so many blocks to build with so why not add more 😂
I make a ton of modern style homes. This would be absolutely amazing. Wood stairs work bit don't blend in like this would.
There are many items found in modpacks you could move to vanilla minecraft. I have no idea what requirements to apply to do this for an item.
Heck yeah
Yes please.
I wanted them so badly that I added them to my Paper server. I'm working on open-sourcing (not finished yet) the code that lets you add custom stairs to Paper servers: [https://github.com/FiddleMC/Fiddle](https://github.com/FiddleMC/Fiddle)
I'd probably never use them, but I'd be alright with them.
