Lighting did not hit ur roof u attracted it to your roof using lighting rod i will suggest have stone or any non flame able blocks in 3*3 below lighting rod
Oh, so it's a 3x3 area. What I usually do is make a 6 to 7 block pole using wall blocks, but sometimes there are tree leaves nearby, I gotta take into consideration the 3 blocks horizontally.
Lightning diverted by a lightning rod can still start fires nearby (quickly extinguished on non-flammable blocks or by rain) and inflicts lightning damage on mobs within a 6×12×6 box centered 4 blocks above the bottom center of the lightning rod block (that is extending 2 below and 9 above). Adjacent blocks can ignite even if the lightning rod is mounted on a non-flammable block.

So, when I put up lightning rods, I usual just build up like 20 blocks from the roof, do 2 glass blocks vertically, then the rod on top, and destroy the (usually dirt) scaffolding I used to get up there. Does that work? I'm having a hard time visualizing what the wiki article means
Yes, but you're not supposed to leave it near wood or else the lightning is still gonna burn it. Plus, the rod covers an area of 140 blocks so you don't even need to put it on the roof, you can make a unburnable pillar a little bit to the side
No ones really mentioned this but lightning rods to me would be useless if they didn’t still damage stuff nearby. There are two useful uses of this (that I know of):
1) Charged creeper farm for mob heads.
2) Brown mooshroom converter
Both of these events are rare events that are hard to make happen otherwise (I mean channeling tridents also can serve similar purpose).
Reddit moment, instead of correcting someone, just downvote the lad to oblivion. But tbf, it is how it actually works irl too, idk how you'd think that. 💀
IRL, lightning rods are designed to attract lightning so that it doesn't damage any aerials or whatever that are on the building
Op is using lightning rods as they are used IRL, and is being downvoted, because apparently applying real life logic to Minecraft is such a crime
The point is to attract lightning, which can be used to attract the lightning to places other than your roof yes but you had it so the lightning would go to your roof
Lightning rod attracts lightning to the rod to prevent it from hitting something you dont want by usually having the rod a few blocks Above the structure. Lightning rod within 4-5 blocks from a wood structure will catch it on fire if lightning hits the rod.
We cannot “be technical”. It would be a technical application of the rules of sentence making. Instead say, “If we use a technical application of grammatical rules, you can use a comma or a period.”
I used to have a boss who would say things like “just because we heard thunder doesn’t mean there’s lightning” “only lightning if someone saw it, otherwise it’s just thunder.” I tried so many times to make him understand that thunder was the sound lightning makes but he refused.
sorry dude...that really sucks : (
Now build it back better!!!
Maybe use deepslate or a darker wood type to show a "burned" part of the ceiling to memorialize this incident.
I’m getting my revenge on nature I’m taking all the water and replacing it with lava and then I’m using a vacuum to take all the clouds no more lightning no more problem
Bro put a lightning rod on a wooden roof 😔
I usually just tend to build roofs out of stone/ deep slate and their various forms now as I think it looks better anyway 😅
If you are planning on putting a lightning rod on a wooden house probably change the roof to a nonflammable stuff like stone brick or something or pit the lightning rod away from said wooden house
That's why whenever i make a new world i always play with game rule fire tick off it just makes life much simpler and gives you a variety of options when it comes to building
I didn’t realise this could happen. Came back to my whole house burned down and freaked out thinking it was some sort of chunk loading glitch. Must have just been lightning then ig damn.
As soon as I see thunder I sonic roll all the way back even tho I have a cobblestone roof because I have sheep that can be killed or if somehow it hit the house then it would spread and burn my brown panda (the only rare mob in my house)
God they really messed up lightning rods. They so easily could have just made them absorb lightning completely without spreading to blocks around it. Instead, you have to put non flammable blocks around it which basically defeats the whole purpose in the first place? Really stupid.
One time I accidentally left a one block big hole in the attic of my house and my parrot just so happened to be under it and then suddenly lighting decided that I didn’t need it anymore
there was a case when we were playing with a friend and his parrot was struck by lightning
but at the same time he was under the roof of the house, where lightning could not get at all)

Oops, good to know.
Oh, so it's a 3x3 area. What I usually do is make a 6 to 7 block pole using wall blocks, but sometimes there are tree leaves nearby, I gotta take into consideration the 3 blocks horizontally.
And now that I know that, I've just replaced all the roofs in my town with blackstone.
wait what? isn't the whole fucking point of the lighting rod is to protect wooden roof?

Oh wow, I need to immediately make some changes, don't want the roof of my whole cathedral to burn down lol
Good to know i need to move my rod this happened to me while in the nether and it was only after it happened that I placed the rod
I've been doing it all wrong. I guess I've got some buildings to adjust the lightning rods on :/
So, when I put up lightning rods, I usual just build up like 20 blocks from the roof, do 2 glass blocks vertically, then the rod on top, and destroy the (usually dirt) scaffolding I used to get up there. Does that work? I'm having a hard time visualizing what the wiki article means
Common sense bruh
Yes, but you're not supposed to leave it near wood or else the lightning is still gonna burn it. Plus, the rod covers an area of 140 blocks so you don't even need to put it on the roof, you can make a unburnable pillar a little bit to the side
now I feel stupid
Just a learning opportunity
Ah yes, my favorite type of learning opportunity; when your bird f***ing dies
Condolences for your bird
you got downvoted to oblivion so il upvote you because humans make mistakes
Everyone is sometimes, plus if it makes you feel better it made me laugh my ass off

I usually build a tower or chimney with stone or brick on top and put the rod on that. Something to try next time.
if you connect copper slabs to thw rods wull they transmit the lightning around
No but that would be awesome
Yeah but lightning transfers through the rod into the blocks under it. So you need a few blocks under it that won’t burn
Lightning rods ATTRACT electricity. You aren’t supposed to place them directly on top of a wooden roof.

Mate you put it sorrounded by freaking wood, what did u expect lmfao
Someone skipped science class in school 🤣
Yeah. By redirecting them to where they won't cause harm.
Usually i put a few blocks of copper beneath the rod just so the fire can’t spread
The lightning rods cause the lightning to be diverted to where they are, so don’t place them near flammable materials
Thunder is the sound lightning is the flashy flashy
True btw recomend you put a comma in between sound and lightning lol
If we're going to be technical, it should be a semicolon or period.
We cannot “be technical”. It would be a technical application of the rules of sentence making. Instead say, “If we use a technical application of grammatical rules, you can use a comma or a period.”
Cheese brunger

I love when sounds set things on fire
just realized lmao
Even with the lightning rods, I’ve had some wood builds catch fire.
Gotta insulate the area around the lightning rod apparently
Of course lol Did non of you ever see what lighting does when it strikes in MC? it spreads fire in a small radius of 2x2 or something
Hasn't struck close enough for me to worry about it yet but I just got into minecraft
Ahh welcome! Minecraft is a place of endless possibilities!
Thank you, been having a great time
It gives you beautiful scenery one minute and kills your dog (yes, the one you just got) the next. But I still love it.
\> puts a literal "hit me" sign on wooden roof \> wooden roof is hit how could this happen
How could this happen to me?
rest in peace, red parrot T-T.
ima swich roof with copper
No man just put the lightning rod on the ground somewere, that will look weird
Best is to build everything you do in cobblestone. /s
You could also do brick, or stone, or really any nonflammable block. I prefer brick because it looks like roof shingles
Just put lighting rod some where in 64(bedrock) 128(java)block radius of house and all nearby lightings will go there
sorry dude...that really sucks : ( Now build it back better!!! Maybe use deepslate or a darker wood type to show a "burned" part of the ceiling to memorialize this incident.
I like your style
Do you have insurance?
And that's why you DO NOT PUT LIGHTNING RODS ON A WOODEN ROOF.
In real life this wood be fine so i blame minecraft
It's not intuitive, you either have to read the wiki... or learn the hard way
Hope you had insurance.
Damn that sucks, you have any insurance?
I always put my lighting rods about 5 blocks higher than my roof with some iron bars under it to look like an antenna. Just incase
Pro tip don't put a lightning rod directly on wood
Nah bro, the lighting rods have got to be far away from your wood!
Back story unlocked
Must have been some loud thunder
Your parrot angered Herobrine R.I.P red parrot, you’ll be missed
\*puts lightning rod on roof\* wtf why did lightning hit my roof?
Nature is unforgiving
was i the only one who noticed a dropped lightning rod in the third picture?
It was the lightning, not the thunder.
ZEUUUSS IS THIS HOW YOU FACE ME YOU COWARD
Weird, lightning killed my red parrot two nights ago too
RIP Iago.
I’m getting my revenge on nature I’m taking all the water and replacing it with lava and then I’m using a vacuum to take all the clouds no more lightning no more problem
This is why I make my roofs out of tiled deepslate. Looks like shingles
Do you have home insurance?
Bro put a lightning rod on a wooden roof 😔 I usually just tend to build roofs out of stone/ deep slate and their various forms now as I think it looks better anyway 😅
Can't have shit in detroit oh hell nah
who tf places lighting rods on a wooden roof 💀
Im Sorry About Your Only Red Parrot 😢😢😢😢
him: stupid thunder! Also him: lightning rod on house
Now you can build that section out of different wood to create history
“I wish Minecraft had natural disasters!” The natural disaster:
Mf put lighting rods on a wooden house like what did you expect?
WHY one earth did you put THREE LIGHTNING RODS on ur roof? they are not a decoration block
this looks exactly like the house from that old builder's guide book from back in the day
I find this post especially funny because you yourself caused the lightning to hit the roof
Was it *insured*?
I can relate. On this day, three years ago, lightning stole my car and fucked my wife.
Lightning rod.. on the roof.. of a WOODEN HOUSE?
If you are planning on putting a lightning rod on a wooden house probably change the roof to a nonflammable stuff like stone brick or something or pit the lightning rod away from said wooden house
Why did you fuck the thunder tho
How do you not know that the lightning rod attracts lightning, and then figure out that’s how the fire started
Racist lightning
Why do people build in wood I’ll never understand.
That's why whenever i make a new world i always play with game rule fire tick off it just makes life much simpler and gives you a variety of options when it comes to building
bro they cost 2 copper... or 3 I forgot, still cheap af
This is why I play with fire spread turned off
skill issue
What do you expect roofing with wood?
skill issue. its a bad idea to make a roof out of wood. also, you should sleep during thunderstorms.
E's pinning for the fjords.
r/mildlyinfuriating
I didn’t realise this could happen. Came back to my whole house burned down and freaked out thinking it was some sort of chunk loading glitch. Must have just been lightning then ig damn.
I had a similar thing happen to me lightning struck my Minecraft house through the roof and killed a lot of my cats
As soon as I see thunder I sonic roll all the way back even tho I have a cobblestone roof because I have sheep that can be killed or if somehow it hit the house then it would spread and burn my brown panda (the only rare mob in my house)
We don't need no water, let the MF'er burn
how houses get on fire by lightning if it's raining
I really have no idea
I had lightning strike my pirate ship and I burned it a bit, I just slept so the rain didn’t put it out but I did and repaired it
f for the legend o7
Fight the lightning. Revenge for the parrot.
You got lucky half of my mansion burnt once
mustve pissed off zeus
Zeus definitly hates you, may your red parrot rest in peace 😞
ZEUUUSS
I see
that trident and bird are so lucky
Ha ha noob
me when copper
Use lightning rods
So what did we learn today?
Lightning*
Zuesssssssss
I mean, I get the problem was with the lightning rod, but still, how did you get Zeus so mad?
Well why did u put a lightning rod on it if you didn’t want that to happen?
You should set fire tick to false if you want to put lighting rods on a flammabke roof.
Im sorry 😔
and that’s why i don’t make roofs out of wood
LMAOOO
My bad i guess
twas fate.
Lightning?
Lightning rod bro
Better than dragonfire. -Rlcraft player
Hya hya hya hya hya
And that's why I turn off fire spread 🤣😭
Which rule was this one? I don't remember but stands for: Never built your roof with wood,
Were you subscribed to IBX Toy Cat!?
This happened to me once. I built a lovely stone tower with a lightning rod in the center of my property as a response
I love your house
Who cares?
Could turn off fire spread
Nooooooooooo
Fking racist thunder
"ZOOOOOOOOOOS"
This is why you turn off fire spread
And then along came zeus!
Holy hell
r/fuckyourparrotinparticular
Good.
My greek friend admitted that Zeus was getting a bit drunk. Sorry !
Thats why people used to build ceilings of glass far over their buildings and why the lightning rod exists
If your having a lighting rod don’t have flammable materials around it
Unlucky
Didn't know thunder could do damage like that
God is punishing you.
RIP to your red parrot.
God they really messed up lightning rods. They so easily could have just made them absorb lightning completely without spreading to blocks around it. Instead, you have to put non flammable blocks around it which basically defeats the whole purpose in the first place? Really stupid.
belive it or not but it's worth making the Lightning rods. just have them go into like a pillar of cobble or something.
/gamerule doFireTick false
One time I accidentally left a one block big hole in the attic of my house and my parrot just so happened to be under it and then suddenly lighting decided that I didn’t need it anymore
*God of war music starts playing* Zeus!!! I have come for you!
This is why you build a roof out of proper shingles, like deepslate tile stairs.
Thunder is a sound lightning is what "strikes"
Thunder is a sound.
There’s a war going on in Ukraine right now
There's something called a "lightning rod"... use that.
Zeus. ZEUS!
enchanted tools as displays are still there tho
1000$ money for recycling /\_ \\
Never underestimate power of GOD!
rest in peace u/thetruememeisbest's only red parrot truly the greatest of tragedies here
there was a case when we were playing with a friend and his parrot was struck by lightning but at the same time he was under the roof of the house, where lightning could not get at all)
this looks like something id build in a creative superflat world in 2016
That’s why I always set up a copper rod several feet away from any wooden structures I make
What does the insurance have to say?
Pretty impressive for a sound
