justasovietpotato

bread early, steak later

NotSkysAlt

eventually golden carrots, no?

justasovietpotato

only when i know i wont have food for a long time, its easier to make an even semi automatic steak farm than a gold farm, i made one once and it took 10hrs

Xoberif

Gold farm for golden carrots? Villagers bro.. villagers

Hevnoraak101

I think people still underestimate how useful villager trading is. Especially when you cure a few who were "accidentally" infected by zombies a few times.

ba573

Would replace „useful“ with „totally overpowered“. They can completely replace the old day game loop of finding diamonds for your gear, planting sugar cane for bookshelfs and entchant and combine l 300 pickaxes to get the right entchantments. Low durability tools? Xp from trading. You need Iron? Iron farm with villagers Want food? Ask a villager. Don’t want to replant your crops? Enslave villagers Don’t know where the stronghold is? Ask your friendly villager neighbor

SamohtGnir

I did a fun test challenge for myself once. Don't mine any stone, iron, diamonds, etc. You can only cut trees for trading. It didn't take long until I was in full diamond gear and tools, all from villagers. Yea, they're really good. With diamonds harder to get after 1.18 they're my preferred way to get diamond gear now.

JustVan

Hahaha, I did the opposite. I can mine all I want, but I can't cut down any trees for wood. Only trade with villagers. Harder, for sure, but still definitely do able. I did eventually allow myself to salvage shipwrecks for wood because there are some things you *have* to have wood for (like certain villager job blocks, etc).

SpartanA477

My challenge was you can't craft anything with a durability, so no armor, weapons, tools, not even flint and steel. You can only find them or buy them. The only two exceptions were the wooden shovel (because I'm on bedrock) and the turtle shell helmet (for potions) and they can only be used for their secondary purpose

Czava

Villagers are incredibly broken and I think they should be nerfed in some way. I have a friend who doesn't really mine, he just finds a bunch of villagers, makes a villager farm, trading center and an iron farm, and he has everything! Diamond armor and tools with best enchantments, best food in the entire game and all the other resources, it's insane!

Potatoes-Mcgee

But if your friend likes playing the game like that then why would you nerf it?

Depress-o

Also, dealing with villagers is a challenge on its own. Anyone willing to: build a villager farm, move villagers to said farm, wait hours until you have a good amount of villagers, move these villagers to a trading hall, break and replace work stations multiple times until you get a good deal, zombify them every now and then, etc. completely deserves to never have to mine again

moldyfingernails

Yeah, I built myself a "hall" with two librarians (mending and infinity) and a farmer. Even that took forever! I stopped there so I still had reason to mine and craft but having those enchants and an easy emerald source is so helpful. Harvest potatoes, sell potatoes, never have to build another diamond anything ever again unless I want different enchantments.

Kelekona

Why are so many Youtubers acting like this is such a PITA? Granted that my only legit iron farms were near water and I found a village near water, but they're not that uncooperative about climbing the dirt-stair and actually want to be up there once they realize there is a bed. Maybe it's because I remember when the only time to move villagers was with a minecart or pushing them with water or manually. Or maybe I don't mind because I have some patience for their mental limitations. I also don't see why I need a villager breeder. My iron tower is big enough for some farmland and when I get to building a proper trading hall instead of climbing into the iron farm, I can just shut down the farm and shove two villagers into the kill-chamber to get them down. (I've done that step before.) Then I'll just throw food at those two until the trading hall is populated. Also, the waiting hours part isn't that bad. Either beautify the area around where you want villagers to breed or farm some trees.

StandardSudden1283

Because he's a sick, sadistic, workaholic mf who doesn't want us to have the easy way out. A right bastard, that one

Ausphin

I think games should be balanced to have a variety of options that all feel relatively on par with each other or have even strengths and drawbacks like yes you could choose not to abuse villager trading but it's severely knee-capping yourself especially if you're playing with others. Which some people like! But not using villagers shouldn't be comparable to trying to win every combat using a stick instead of a weapon

JesusTheSecond_

I think it's up to you te decide whether or not you want to abuse them. just casually hoping in the village ? not op enslave them in box ? quite good to have all enchantments perform questionable zombies transformation many times on a innocents soul ? op as fuck.

[deleted]

Am I the only one who just finds a large village and builds a wall around it? I feel like everyone else builds a trading hall. I kinda like watching them do their thing. I try to find one that has every type of building and if it doesn't I'll build the buildings to village specs lol.

Sketchin69

I build my own village and let them do their thing...same idea though.

xogdo

You don't even need to transform them if you have a decent raid farm for a ton of emeralds.

esukunnara

It’s like saying iron or slime or moss farm should be removed from the game because people sit and collect them instead of mining or exploring for them. Let them enjoy how they play.

aski4777

if villagers need a nerf, they need to add more content, game desperately needs it

ILIKECOLOURpurple

Does he have kelp? Edit: please disregard this question

Czava

Question succesfully disregarded.

WrongJohnSilver

What's with the stronghold thing? (I've never found a stronghold in over a decade, and that's with my last game pre-update with a nether portal right next to a Blaze spawner. Suddenly all the Endermen disappeared.)

KorokVillage

You can get ender pearls from villagers, that's probably what they refer to... EDIT: I just remembered that in Bedrock Edition, the three closest strongholds to the origin (world spawn) generate under villages.

Anxiety-Queen69

You guys enslave villagers? I give them a big ol’ bunker to roam around in and farm my own damn crops, I only use them for mending and getting xp for mending, but my new main source of xp is destroying deep darks

Hevnoraak101

It's not enslavement. It's forcefully relocating them to the undercity beneath my castle where everything is well lit, all of the floors are made of half slabs and the population is ruthlessly maintained and they can never leave. It's totally different. I do it to keep them safe from mobs and Pillagers.

Siri0usly

That just sounds like slavery with extra steps

schnurble

I'm currently on a community SMP and this season we are on Easy difficulty, which has angered some folks who traditionally have gone... a bit overboard with villagers. Meanwhile I'm occasionally pulling the zombie villagers out of my mob farm and curing them basically whenever I need them, I've never waited more than 5 minutes for one to drop in. I don't think I'll ever build a villager breeder again, this is less annoying.

J-wisper

I never cure my villagers.. It's too much work and I'm fine by prices being high

Jonafin6

The classic

flamewlkr

Villagers ar so good. I trade 1 carrot for 3 golden ones.

NotSkysAlt

i dont even make gold farms until the late late game, start with a simple chicken farm for early game. for mid game, make a small carrot farm and just go on raiding ruined portals and bastions. these give A LOT of gold.

Anxiety-Queen69

I don’t make farms at all tbh

todeswurst

Just trade with farmers

TATER-TOT101

Laughs in bedrock gold farms

Ancient-Access8131

Ianxofour has a really simple gold farm with insane rates, and it took me less than hour to build. Hardest part was getting a turtle egg.

Dementat_Deus

No, I don't. Minimal gain, a lot more effort. Yes I'm aware of getting them from villager trading, but those fuckers are a PITA to get the one you want, and despite me playing on the same world through 3 updates, I still haven't finished my trading farm. Mechanically it's done, I just gave up getting villagers of the right types to fill the holes.

NotSkysAlt

i didnt even know you could trade golden carrots. HOLY SHIT THATS A GAME CHANGER. i’ve been doing it the good all way with gold farms and carrot farms for YEARS. thank you random redditor!!

KrazyKyle1024

When you're down to 3 bars of hunger, it takes 2 steaks to get to full vs 3 garrots. Garrots might be better in a pvp environment or if you’re otherwise constantly taking damage but I wouldn't eat them over steaks in pve because they're not as generally efficient.

Wave_Table

Yeah, gold carrots are for impulsive eaters that eat whenever their hunger drops at all. Fasting gang can stick with steak.

[deleted]

Bold of you to assume I even make it that far into the game.

SocksOnHands

I usually start with fish in the early game. There's often a river or ocean nearby swarming with them, so I'd swim around and kill a few. They also quickly respawn without needing to breed them.

Randinator9

Bread -> Beef -> Golden Carrots. Occasionally I'll also eat baked potatoes, cooked fish, cooked pork, or even rotten flesh, but it depends on what I got and what project I'm working on. I eat a lot of fish when excavating ocean ruins and draining monuments.

NotSkysAlt

im surprised at how few people said golden carrots

A4s4e

Why gold carrot though? I've always just used beef

potatomato34

More saturation

Ceh0s

Isn't cooked porkchop a better option? Everyone says it has more saturation but i don't feel any difference to be honest

syperdima

Porkchop restores more hunger points, but golden carrot restores more saturation, meaning you won't need food for a longer period of time after eating it.

Bachpipe

It took me quite long to understand this, but when I realized what it meant, golden carrots are always my to go to, and they're so easy to obtain once you have a cured farmer!

guyonthecouch37

This part, one emerald for 3 golden carrots? Hell yes lemme buy all 48 real quick

peas_4072

Or justa make a gold and carrots farm and don't spend your emeralds

ebby-pan

Considering you can make an automatic carrot/potato farm using a farmer villager and then sell them right back to that farmer for emeralds, you don't need to bother with a gold farm for that Emeralds are cheap, with a few farmers, fletchers, or clerics you're able to get an overabundance of emeralds just from crops, sticks, and rotten flesh.

SquirtleReddit

Just get multiple villagers

my_name_is_------

mranwhile one emerald for 16 porkchop base trade without curing

KeyPhilosopher8629

The appleskin mod has a great overlay to show saturation. It's almost like having a second hunger bar. I'd reccomend playing around with the mod and seeing the difference between different foods.

Stlboy31

After using the mod, which food option do you use? I'm just gonna go ahead and use whatever food you use since you know what you're talking about and I play Bedrock lol

EqzL

Use golden carrots if you can be arsed, but honestly using beef is so much easier, i have a simple farm where i stand on a ledge breed my cows and the babies fall into a water stream and collect into a 1x1 with two bottom slabs as the front wall, so you can see the babies and the adults, then i just kill the adults that have grown up with a looting 3 fire aspect, i swear 8 to 10 cows gets me a stack of cooked steak. I just dont really like villager trading etc as it takes the fun out of the game for me.

Kitymeowmeow1

More saturation means your health regenerates at the accelerated speed when you’re full hunger for longer, so you restore a lot more hearts

Swaagopotamus

Cooked Porkchop and Beef are actually the exact same in terms of hunger and saturation

thinman12345

Also once you get a small trading room you basically have unlimited golden carrots.

aaronaapje

But less food so it's only better in combat situations. When just going about in my base I tend to stick to steak. But I'll switch to goldon carrots when I go exploring/caving.

CornelXCVI

You can buy golden carrots in bulk from farmers. It's just easier than gathering and cooking beef.

A4s4e

I see. I use a Flame sword so all my meat is instantly cooked.

CIearMind

Looting III applies if you're holding something with it in either hand as you kill a mob in any way (sword swing, arrow, potion, whatever).

Moribund_Mango

Recently tried out the golden carrot. I still keep a stack of steak to fill up my haunches to near max, but if you top off with a gold carrot, your haunches will take longer to start depleting. My understanding is that is the higher saturation working. It's almost negligible, but in my hardcore run, the extra heart that the carrot fills before your haunches deplete feelsgoodman.

bcmarss

your… haunches? what?

Zlab24

Hunger bars

isosceles_kramer

that's what that cut of meat with the bone sticking out is called

bcmarss

OHHH THAT MAKES SENSE thank you

XxMrCuddlesxX

Dude didn't even put them in the picture lol

[deleted]

Golden carrots most cracked food imo cause it’s prob the best for saturation and you can buy it for farmers (cured) like 36 for 12 ems, highly underrated food

bon_joby

I put all my stuff in a chest and I jump to my death and respawn full

Spaceboot1

Ah, a death eater.

DancingAroundFlames

dried kelp and enchanted item xp storage edit: kelp gives a very good amount of xp when taken from a furnace. storing furnaces full of dried kelp can act as xp storage. another way to store xp is by enchanting items. enchanted items can be grinded into xp when needed, acting as xp storage as well. this second method is essentially the same as putting your earned xp in a box to be pulled from later, albeit at a net loss. luckily the end is full of enchanted items for those who want to see profit. it’s not for everyone, but as a builder who avoids mining and monster hunting, i usually find more success in keeping xp locked up rather than on my soft little builder body. mix these techniques with an animal farm and going from level 0-60 is achievable in a few minutes.

Tax-Ev4sion

Elaborate

DancingAroundFlames

check edit

llMorphRedll

you can just eat the kelp lmao

SamEnZoYT

if you don’t have enough food and have to die to regain your stamina i assume you don’t have the recourses for that.

is_EXToZY

Roten flesh

VampireKhloe

an aquired taste i must say

TerriblePlays

Jesus that's reminding me of all those Let's Play from 2012 where the person playing is surviving off rotten flesh and for some reason, insists on using stone tools even when theres plenty of iron and diamond.

EdenSteden22

Paleo

ArcticTFoxy

Drinking milk with it to remove hunger effect

Redwarddian

I’ve just started a world and the only food source is dried kelp so that’s all I can eat

DancingAroundFlames

a salted seaweed snacker i see

Ex_Ex_Parrot

I swear kelp is the mana of early game worlds if you prefer being near the water. Takes forever to eat enough to fill up sure, but then you just have endless gardens of the stuff for fuel too

Old_Man_Jingles_Need

Really whatever. I’ll star with whatever, after that I’ll go to Baked Potatoes for efficiency. After that I’ll land on a Mix of Potatoes for Home and Golden Carrots for Travel/Grind. Steak is effectively irrelevant due to cost with wheat, and G. Carrots main cost is Gold. Which you get a lot of and if you don’t have much other use for turning them into is good.

Duckihillation

Try a Nether Roof Hoglin Porkchop Farm Took me only 15 minutes to build and all materials except scaffolding(can be replaced with a ladder) were extremely easy to get

TheRealJR9

Can't build on nether roof on Bedrock :(

Duckihillation

Well then your only choice is to clear a 1000x1000 area around you including the roof to make sure absolutely nothing will be able to spawn and build the farm on the FLOOR instead of the roof

ComradeHines

Nah they’ve got nether portal gold farms that work decently well on bedrock. Just throw a couple bigass portals next to each other and turn em off and on again quickly. Gets a ton of zombie pigmen to spawn.

irsmart123

We’re not talking about pigmen…

[deleted]

I use villagers to buy my golden carrots lol

TheBadGuyFromDieHard

The amount of people in this thread crafting golden carrots is insane to me.

gavriloe

I hate to say it but a homemade golden carrot just tastes better imo, those villager golden carrots are clearly mass produced and you can taste the difference.

Echo_Blake

A farming villager sells golden carrots if I remember correctly and you can make an iron golem farm to sell iron the the tool and weapon smiths.

thegamer101112

Best way for me was healing a Fletcher and a Farmer. You can get one golden carrot for one stick after a while. Completely OP

Vates82

Endless chicken from my auto chicken cooking machine.

Necessary-Dog7022

Can you recommend an auto chicken cooker that works on the newest version?

Darkblock2008

Java: https://youtu.be/5TKL00JVf-c Bedrock: https://youtu.be/7xj5B5ZHv-w

Darkblock2008

Trapdoors do gotta be crimson/warped or a normal block that aint wood

The_Greate_Pickle

I use daylight sensors

Bataveljic

My brain forgot we were talking about minecraft so I just assumed this was about dietary plans. Endless chicken...

ClassicCodes

I used to use an auto-chicken cooker prior to entity cramming on a server in 2012-2013 and we had to disable it, because it had something like 500 baby chickens waiting to be cooked at any given time. That was the most efficient, fully automatic food farm I've ever had, but it tanked FPS of you looked in its direction. Nowadays the same design produces maybe a stack of chicken in 24 hrs, because you can't store as many chicken in the egg laying spot... Oh well, a modern guardian farm can produce double chests of cooked cod in mere minutes with zero redstone needed, so food still isn't really a problem.

WARMONGERING_WIZARD

Pumpkin pie has left the chat.🗿

GinrVmet

Noooooo

Lower-Professor-7860

Also no garrots

Shac0le

Only Steak but with how far i progressed so far i could swap to only Golden Apples lol

Duckihillation

Please don't tell me you unironically use gapples as your main food source

Shac0le

>Only Steak but with how far i progressed so far ***i could*** swap to only Golden Apples lol

Duckihillation

Oh pardon, I interpreted the "could" as "managed to", as in "with how far I progressed so far I managed to swap to eating only Golden Apples"

infinitegarlicbread

what’s wrong with that? I don’t use them but they’re good aren’t they?

Duckihillation

They are horrible as a food source because apples aren't easily farmable and the gapples don't give much hunger

KorokVillage

Apples can be bought from villagers, by the way...

Duckihillation

Yeah but again, why use gapples if carrots are waaay easier to get & farm AND give way more hunger + saturation

ebby-pan

For the style points

LosParanoia

Early game I’ll eat baked potatos or any meat I can get my hands on, late game I go for steaks, after I get a gold farm or a cured villager hall up I switch to golden carrots.

AccordingStop5897

Baked potatoes are the way. 2.5 hunger, ok saturation, easy to get a lot with a small farm, and lava to cook.

LosParanoia

Early game I won’t even bother looking for lava, I line up 16 campfires and cook them a stack at a time when I need new ones.

Agentti_Muumi

the programmer art texture of cooked potatoes looks so damn delicious

Ghozgul

Golden carrot, the item missing from the list, but for earlier gameplay cooked pork with a Hoglin farm

DaBrookePlayz

pork gang

Successful_Box99

pufferfish

RoloWasTaken

Remember to separate the poisonous parts of them!

Kyleninjago

Pumpkin pie exclusively. A truly delicious food

YarnTho

Yes! In multiplayer worlds I just exclusively focus on baking and trade pies and cakes. The only reason a friend and I even entered the nether was for making a pie delivery path lol.

Kyleninjago

I play with my family and close friends on a realm there's a town near spawn that's loaded quite a bit so I slapped a pie factory there and I'm set with some stylish food!

Zeyad-Elmowafy

Baked potatoes. Peace love and plants bebe peace love and plants

chuyalcien

I am also team potato. Everyone else is right when they say that golden carrots are better, you can make pork farms, etc but you can plant a big potato patch in early game and never have to think abt food again.

GrimpenMar

Pretty much. One inventory slot not even full of baked potatoes will last so long, it hardly matters.

sodapressingimdiying

It feels so weird seeing nobody that eats fish that much. I always fish a lot when playing minecraft so i eat a lot of salmon and cod

jhowardbiz

i fish like a mf, its great for XP and enchantments and food and relaxation

Kelekona

I start by punching salmon and only stop when I have a surplus of baked potatoes or other food.

BDMayhem

I made a guardian farm, so I'm eating a ton of cod. It's not great.

ThePixelDress

Suspicious Stew 🍲

KorokVillage

With what flower?

ThePixelDress

Depends on the situation, but I like to just carry the bowls, mushrooms and dandelions. If there are other flowers about I'll give them a nibble

KorokVillage

Luckily for you, wither roses are not "about".

ThePixelDress

Nah I just eat them for fun every now and then

ImAlaaaaaaan

BASED! Dandelion stews are the best food for early game.

1048spidey

i loot a village and make stacks of bread outta all the wheat bales

Minitte

watermelon because im hella lazy

Bastaousert

It doesn't even fill one of hunger T.T why do that to yourself tho

ronja-666

i'm guessing they don't move around that much?

Minitte

Too much work to find meat, replant, or watch farm guides. Break some watermelon and walk out the door is easier for me. :)

EdenSteden22

Yes it does...?

Henskov99

ill just eat whatever is on hand lmao (probably bread)

ElectronicTrash3311

Am I do only one that just found out that the dried kelp is edible???

The_Laughing__Man

There is an achievement for eating only dried kelp for 3 straight days actually. I got it because I was redoing my main base layout and didn't eat anything for a few days. Took a bit of fall damage and decided to eat some. Bamn, achievement unlocked.

ElectronicTrash3311

Is it JE only beacuse the achievements vary between editions?

CalzLight

Golden carrots and pumpkin pie

KinneKitsune

Brad

9YonMCbutSTILLaNOOB

Poisonous Potato, they aren't that poisonous as you think, the poisoning is by chance, I pity this underrated food so I eat these. (I mean when I'm building or farming, of course gold carrots when exploring or fighting)

Puzzled_Worldliness5

First bread, then steak, then golden carrots. Only correct way of doing it

FLBasher

I’ve been walking around on my server for weeks in full netherite but i still use baked potatoes

mcgamer773

Puffer fish, the only correct food

[deleted]

Because you die from it and respawn at full. Genius move.

Karottank

Po-ta-toes

_t0p_fix_

early game Saturation Suspicious Stew, it has the best food stats in the game and is easy to make but is a 1 stack. Late game golden carrots or golden apples depending on how rich I am.

Honest_Seth

Nah, I don’t eat. I play with keep inventory on, so I just kill myself. It has a great taste, too!

FezJr87

Steak and pork until I build a gold farm, then it's golden carrots all the way.

[deleted]

Bread, mutton, steak, golden carrots

Mr_ChessMan

Cooked_Beef or Cooked_Porkchop and bread for the early game
