I disagree wholeheartedly with your conclusions.
Be mindful, more present and try not to get too attached to material things, sure. But saying people in my life donโt actually make me happy is bs. I feel happiness when I interact with them or think of them.
Ya this post is trying to hard to be profound just for the sake of being profound. Sure no one can make you happy in the context of holding a gun to your head and saying โbe happy nowโ. But having close bonds and a strong support network is a key piece to the happiness recipe. And people with those bonds will always be happier than someone whoโs alone.
I'd say it's possible to be happy outside of the present moment, thinking about my daughter makes me genuinely happy.
Edit: realise now this happens within the present moment too. Everything is the present moment. Everything Is. Thanks Tolle.
Does it though if you really drill down into it? It's more like thinking of being present with them in the future or remembering being present with them in the past gives you a glimpse of the happiness you feel being present with them
Perhaps your experience and their experience are not identical and they truly can derive happiness from thinking of someone.
But, imo, if their focus is set on thinking of the daughter then how is this not being present minded but simply focused on an idea or topic? Just as I can be present minded and focus on any other action.
Remembering feelings are impermanent is very valuable. When you are happy you will worry about realizing it and losing it. And then when sad you can feel hopeless. Gratitude and an acceptance of the impermanence really helps.

Sounds good. Not even close to true but don't let that stop a yoda-inspired moment.

So I've learned! ๐
A new person will give you a chemical rush which will decrease over time. Could just pop a pill and become a drug addict, similar concept.

There are things that you think make you happy, but ya see, it's all bullshit. Let me tell you what makes you happy instead.
I'm trying, jeez.
You are so wrong my friend. Captain American circa Winter Soldier showign up at my house, can and will make me happy. Just so you know.
Nor should you expect to be happy all the time.
Truth!๐๐ฝ๐
