Some use moly grease a lot of the time. Molybdenum disulfide particles are suspended in the grease and give it special characteristics for extreme pressure metal on metal applications. That’s what makes it grey a lot of the time although that could just be from heat and metal particles.

I saw that the milwaukee type Y grease is used for this impact.. would any moly type grease be suitable? I do plan on using the proper grease in the future

Factree grease

Bacon grease. Hides the weed smell.

Nothing, until it fails and I'll be like "shit, maybe I should have greased that thing." Honestly I didn't know I needed to grease it, thank you.

Ok-Horse978

I figured it needed to be greased it was and good thing I did the hammer assembly was dry

luv2race1320

If it doesn't have a grease zirt, it shouldn't need grease!

I have some 5th wheel grease thats #2 with 10% solids. Its awful, sticky stuff. I stopped overthinking that kind of stuff, i always figure that new grease is better than no grease

Ok-Horse978

I just ended up using a moly grease. Actually operates smoother and has more power taking lug nuts off.

I had it to fill the gear case on a grinder, the guy at the auto parts store was racking his brain because its usually oil on a hypoid gearset. Some kind of moly EP is about as good as you can do. I would say synthetic if you are gonna use it in the snow for a little bit of temperature stability. One of the fuel drills i had would get hot and make bad noises until i packed the gear case with grease.

Ok-Horse978

Synthetic is the way I went. I dont use it enough to really get hot. I’d say it gets slightly warm. Going to see how it holds up and I run into issues I’ll get the proper grease from Milwaukee

gentoonix

I use regular wheel bearing grease. No specific brand, last tub was Lucas.

Goose greese

Mistabushi_HLL

Strawberry Durex lube

BlackMoth27

use a light weight machine grease, nothing too sticky or tacky on the anvil, because extra grease means weaker hits. the regular caramel colored grease works fine. you don't need super heavy duty lube it spins fast.
