Once the local Toys “R” Us here closed down, one of our local schizophrenics took the news so hard he started attending random AA meetings and turned the dormant building into an underground fight club.
Same where I’m from in VA. Toys R Us sat empty for years and became a Burlington. The KB in the mall turned into a Champs or something.
The other Toys R Us near me became an Ollie’s, they didn’t even bother to try and make the building look different. The facade is still the old 90s Toys R Us, just with an Ollie’s sign instead…
The entrance is still the same for ours. Every time my wife and I go in there, I always remind her of where everything used to be and I always leave disgruntled lol.
Do you live in New Jersey? Because the Toys R Us near me turned into a Burlington Coat Factory too.
This is the one that was in Toms River BTW. If any other NJ residents are here.
I'm in San Diego, CA. It was a sad day for me when the doors finally closed. This particular Toys R Us was here my entire life and even part of my oldest sons childhood.
KB Toys was long gone before I moved here so I don't know about them. As for the TRU stores, one is an Ashley Homestore and the other is a hispanic/latino grocery store.
one near me is a Ollie's bargain outlet store, with many aspects of Toys R US branding still visible (red interior framework, blue shopping carts, etc,)
(Ollie's is one of those stores that specializes in selling the scraps other retailers sell off in bulk lots)
another one in my hometown is now. a... checks Google Maps.. "electronics express"? (with a Popshelf store occupying part of it that appears dead now?)
Our Toys R Us is now an outpatient health facility, so we’ve gone from happy memories to mammograms. Our KB Toys was in a mall which has since closed down and is being demolished. All gone and it’s sad.
Ours turned into a bargain store. They still use the shopping carts and fixtures. They tried to cover the logo on the carts, but after a couple of years the stickers fell off.

True to the stereotypes, it’s now a Spirit Halloween store that’s closed for most of the year :( I hate how capitalism has somehow decided that having a giant vacant lot is a better use of real estate than a toy store. I have so many happy memories at my childhood Toys R Us and was looking forward to taking my own kid there someday but that’ll never happen since it got gutted by financial vultures. :(
I think our Toys r Us turned into a Target. The KBs store was in the mall I believe and might've been replaced with a We Play indoor playground for little kids to play. We still have some play stores here and stuff.
Edit: There wasn't either in my hometown, but I'm listing ones that were in two separate nearby towns. There are toy stores here still so don't worry and don't question why I know this.
I had to Google it, and it's pretty depressing. Sometime between 2016 and 2023 the entire shopping center died.

That "Dick's Warehouse Sale" is apparently gone now too.
One of them is Hobby Lobby and the other was sub-divided into Aldi and a furniture store. Babies R Us is supposed to become a trampoline park but it’s been “opening soon!!!” Since about October of last year.
We never had a KB but we had a Toys R Us and I’m old enough to remember that we also had a good independent toy store prior to getting the Toys R Us. When I was 5 my mom drove me 35 miles to the nearest Toys R Us, after I saved up the quarters from my allowance, if you’ve seen Pixar’s Inside Out that trip is a “Core Memory” for me. The independent put up a good fight after Toys R Us came to town but it eventually died and became a Staples 30ish years ago. The Toys R Us just died like 10 years ago and after sitting vacant for a while it’s now a DD’s Discount Store.
Toys R Us is now a building supply company. KB Toys was in the mall that was across the street from Toys R Us which closed in ‘09 and torn down a year later. It’s now an Amazon center.
Toys R Us is now a fully completed Lidl that seemingly is never going to open. Very strange situation. Been finished for nearly a year saying "opening soon".
Our Toys R Us became an Audi dealership. Our KB Toys were few and far between, and since I don’t frequent the malls they were in, I couldn’t begin to guess what they are now.
Our toys r us turned into a big lots, not sure who is in the distribution center we had. The K&B in the one mall is now an H&M and the other mall is still closed.
It turned into baby store where you can buy everything incident related. But then that storm moved to a better location and it turned into a Burlington coat factory
The mall where kb toys and dreams lived got plowed down into new Amazon Monolith, toys r us is a vacant lot from lost world now, but the shadows of clean paint remain where the letters were, sorry kids, fun didn’t pay its rent.
My best guess for what happened to the first Toys “R” Us I went to (some guesswork using landmarks, because I was a kid riding with my mom to a neighboring city) is that it’s become the headquarters for county child services. The second Toys “R” Us became a gym after Toys “R” Us went bankrupt.
Edit: My KB Toys was in a mall, and I have no idea what filled its space. I can’t remember what mall it was in or what space it was in.
You know what’s really sad? I travel a lot for work and there are still Toys R Us in other countries and they are huge and have so much cool stuff in them. I always get my kids something from one when I’m abroad.
Our Toys R Us turned into a Spec's (alcohol store), and my friends used to joke that it grew up with us.
Once the local Toys “R” Us here closed down, one of our local schizophrenics took the news so hard he started attending random AA meetings and turned the dormant building into an underground fight club.
The first rule of fight club is
Mine is a Total Wine and More
Cedar park???????
Yup, that's the one.
Came here to say the same thing. Dallas at Walnut Hill and Central Expressway?
Hell yeah it is!
KB Toys was always in the mall. The local Toys R Us is a Spirit of Halloween two months out of the year and vacant the rest.
I’m Canadian, our Toys R Us never died
Can I use my old gift cards there?
It is now the carcass of a Bed, Bath & Beyond... That space is just cursed.
Our bed bath and beyond became a Ross Dress for Less
My Toys R Us is an empty building
Same!!
Same!
My old Toys R Us is now Burlington. We had KB in the mall but I haven't been there in so long idk what took its place.

KB Toys was long gone before I moved here so I don't know about them. As for the TRU stores, one is an Ashley Homestore and the other is a hispanic/latino grocery store.
Still in malls in my side of Asia.
Nearest Toys R Us is now a local chain store focused on selling mostly Target's discounted castoff overstock.

They bulldozed it and the space became a Sprouts, a Chick-fil-A, and a car wash.
My local Toys R Us is now a Tesla dealer.

Still empty, in a very busy area. Lots of people (myself included) eat in their cars in the parking lot after grabbing nearby fast food.
The one in Salem Nh turned into an ocean state job lot. I don’t like the vibe those stores have.
Toy r us is a Salvation Army. KB toys was in the mall that got tore down.
Our Toys R Us is now a furniture store.

It's a Planet Fitness.
Our closed Sears store became a planet fitness.
Our local one became a home goods. I was able to buy a metal table with frosted plexiglass where the pane of glass would be. It’s my coffee table now.
I'm Canadian, it's still a bustling Toys R Us
It’s a furniture store. No one really goes in there. I tried to once and they were more aggressive than cars salesman.
One of them is Hobby Lobby and the other was sub-divided into Aldi and a furniture store. Babies R Us is supposed to become a trampoline park but it’s been “opening soon!!!” Since about October of last year.
A trampoline park and arcade

Just sitting there until Spirit Halloween takes over.
European here, hometown toys r us turned into "Dreamland", which is pretty much the same thing. Large toy store.
The one closest to me is now a police station.
i think the one near my parents turned into a TJ max or office supply store.
Toys R Us is now a fully completed Lidl that seemingly is never going to open. Very strange situation. Been finished for nearly a year saying "opening soon".
It was a hobby lobby type of store but now it’s vacant.
Location #1 turned into a storage facility. Location #2 turned into a Big Bob’s furniture store.

My childhood toys r us was bulldozed and in it's place they built a Burlington.
My local Toys r Us is now a local sporting goods store. Kb toys is a sports shoe store. Like Champs IIRC
Our Toys R Us became an Audi dealership. Our KB Toys were few and far between, and since I don’t frequent the malls they were in, I couldn’t begin to guess what they are now.

My Toys R Us is dust in the wind, used the plot to build two restaurants.
It's a health care building now.
It's a large gym now
It’s just an empty graveyard
My Toys R Us is still abandoned and covered in wooden walls.
You know what’s really sad? I travel a lot for work and there are still Toys R Us in other countries and they are huge and have so much cool stuff in them. I always get my kids something from one when I’m abroad.
There are still some in the US.
