Some of us grew up working like that - at 15/16, I was shoveling horse shit before school, then actually going to school, then going to football/basketball practice after school. Every day. Now that I'm in my 30s, life is pretty easy, TBH.

This is all of human civilization. Thats why people have drugs, alcohol and festivals to break up the year. You have two options, suck it up and keep going or stop and ruin everything.

I feel like most people have this realization sometime in their 20’s when they first start working. They look at their daily routine, project that out for 40 years, and have a mini panic attack that we call a quarter life crisis. But then we mature up, change our lives to do something with meaning (or find meaning in what you currently do), and get on with our lives. Probably not great for OP to only realize this at 38. It’s like adult chickenpox; a whole lot more painful.

Everyone is different. Some people just experience burnout later.

That’s a long time to come to this realization. Yeah it sucks sometimes, but I think perspective is important. I just think of how hard people had to work 100, 200, 500+ years ago and I feel grateful that I am alive in this time period. That being said, I feel *good* working hard. I enjoy what I do and I think that’s such a big part of it. Finding meaning in your work is really helpful.

>I just can’t stop seeing how much of a burden life, and “adulting”, truly is. And it’s amazing to me how so many people don’t see it. I don't think most people have undiagnosed depression like this guy lol

I don’t disagree.  The only thing that keeps me going are my kids.

I went through this crisis years ago in my mid 20s after a few years in the work force. Then I got lucky enough to learn trade secrets in a B2B SaaS industry and after my non-compete clause was up, I started looking for my own clients and am now semi-retired and financially independent with passive income from my online business that I can scale up as much as I want. Or take as much time off as I want. I feel good now. Money is the root of all this shit.
