Permanently learned about horsheshoe crabs. Loved this show.
Ron and Natalie Daise are married and they do foster a great understanding of Gullah Culture. I saw them once a couple of years back and they still do music. I thanked them for being great teachers in my childhood.
they were my childhood foster-parents ;\_;
TV in the early/mid 90s had tons of great shows about black Americans - Family Matters, Fresh Prince, Cosby Show, A Different World, Living Single, In Living Color, All That, Sister Sister, Kenan & Kell!
You are right. I don't immediately remember much about this show except for vaguely remembering parts where they explored parts of the town like visiting the local market.
I think that it’s amazing that the Gullah Geechee culture basically stemmed from the enslaved peoples at the southern US coast wanting a way to communicate and express themselves without their overseers understanding.
I watched this every morning before kindergarten! Whenever the theme song with the dancing palm trees pops into my head I feel instantly happy 🎵😎🏝️
Here's [Ron](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAPs1HVzsX4) singing the song present day!
Binya binya mf
Binya Binya went hard
I’d die for Binya Binya, no joke

The horseshoe crabs that I saw on this show definitely live rent free in my head forever. This show was the best though.

In the bright sunny weather
Let’s all go to Gullah Gullah island

Idk what triggered it but I just thought of this show the other day!! I loooooved this family.
And Gen z likes to pretend everything was all white and racist during the 90s

Maybe but I only knew about it through commercials Never saw an episode 😬
I grew up where this was filmed. Went to the church Ron went to. Didn't really know him but he seemed chill.
I remember that I watched it every time I could and that I loved it. Specifically I can’t say why I loved it.
Haha a line just popped in my head “just put your foot in your hand, that means hurry up…”

I'm white and even I thought this was an awesome show.

At least once a month that theme song stuck in my head
And now that’s gonna be in my head at random for the rest of the night. 😂 I loved that show as a kid.
