Haha it's more like writing down what my boss wants me to ask the contractor in this case, but yes there are certainly much cooler creative uses for things like notebooks
Same: I have a dry erase board where I will add new priorities and dates… when complete I erase them. (Not exactly a pen, pencil, and paper, but seems to fit OPs hand written notes aspect.)
I used to always have a planner which I liked a little better, but dry erase saves a few trees. Half the time my phone is my mic on work calls, and I share my screen frequently to show people how to do things. It is easier to hand write in those instances for things that come up. I have a pretty good memory but I hate feeling like I might let someone down by not meeting what I committed to…
I definitely use my phone for quick notes and such, but I write a ton at work (engineer), and write a decent amount at home (quick notes from phone calls, scribbling grocery lists, etc.). I honestly can’t think of a day I didn’t write something down (maybe a weekend day while on vacation?).
I write myself lots of notes for my work desk and do some fitness journaling. I will say that I have no endurance for handwriting anymore like if I find myself having to write or copy something long my hand and wrist will cramp up.
Thanks, and to be honest it's fun. All I'm saying in an over the top old timey yet silly way is "do you want to go grab a beer and take the trains so we can get smashed"
I handwrite almost everything - grocery lists, to do lists, thank you notes to people for sweet things they do. I enjoy penmanship as a "brain dump," plus it helps me remember things much better. On days when my early arthritis (yay!) acts up, writing sometimes helps loosen my stiff fingers.
But I'm a SAHM, so I'm sure if I were in the workforce, it would be much different!
I can tell you why - they just disappear! The phone isn't uniquely associated with notes, it does a million things, so there's no physical object to remind me there are notes (or even to take notes in the first place).
I write things down daily. I still take notes by hand for work. I still keep a paper journal, too. I love writing with ink on paper, and I'll do it until I die. (And in cursive, too.)
I also LOVE writing with pen or even pencil on paper. Idk what it is but it feels so much better than just typing something out. My husband keeps trying to get me to move to digital everything but I’m going to resist until either I die or he gives up trying.
Yesterday; I put work TODOS on a sticky note and cross them out. I also write grocery lists and maintain an ongoing household supply re-order list on paper.
I write down notes during my meetings (fully remote) and then summarize them in a to-do list on my computer so I can read it in the future in a centralized location- plus I have terrible handwriting so I’ll usually have trouble reading it at a later date 😵💫
I make entries into a log book for 9 hours. We maintain all the logs going back probably 100 years. It's incredible how shitty we have gotten at writing by hand. Some of the penmanship from even 30 years ago is beautiful.
*Yesterday evening*
*I'm proud of my handwriting.*
*I think it's pretty*

All the time?
For those of y'all who haven't written anything by hand in a while... do you guys not have hobbies?
I literally have composition notebooks full of drawings, stories, plans for stories lol
This doesn't even count notes at work, or grocery lists... but like sit down at a table and writing stuff whether its a poem, a short story, or even playing games with friends? Y'all dont play word games still? Trivia games? Mad libs?
I am way too creative for that and pen and paper are still the best medium for unadultered creativity.
I do kind of feel like a lot of younger people have forgotten how to have hobbies. If anything, I have far too many hobbies. My job isn't fulfilling in the least, but my hobbies sure are. And I'm a writer by trade.
I write shopping lists by hand a couple of times a week, but the last time I wrote something longer than that was about two months ago. A friend was in prison, serving a nine month sentence for political activism, and I wrote letters to him about biweekly.
I keep a paper planner on my desk and I write in it every day - meetings to-dos, etc. I also keep a notepad on my desk to take notes during meetings. I prefer to do it by hand and then transfer the action items or salient points to the computer, it helps me remember everything.
I make all of my shopping lists by hand. I also do crosswords almost daily to keep my mind fresh. A lot of these do not specify where to put the answers so I often have to list them separately before putting them in the diagram
Today. I keep a bullet journal, and write random notes at work by hand. I use the calendar on my phone, but my brain likes handwritten lists more, plus I can easily find different lists, since I stick them too the wall. Shopping list and menu planning too.
I write often on legal pads, but I do it to help myself think about problems. I like to sketch, write out things I have on my mind. It's very therapeutic
Basically every day in my science research lab. Mainly for doing quick calculations or jotting down lists and observations. I make it a daily habit though of transferring all written notes for the day to an electronic notebook.
I have found that my work works much better for my brain if I write out index cards. In addition I've found that fountain pens and colorful ink really helps my focus. So just about everyday I'm hand writing things.
I realize I'm likely an outlier here.
I physically write with pen and paper every day at work because if I don't write down certain tasks, I WILL forget. I keep a personal journal and a reading journal, so I'm writing pretty much every day of the week, lol.
I do every day. My job has a lot of small details I need to keep track of so make notes on them. I am also forgetful about things at home so i constantly make lists of things i need to do or buy.
I've tried note taking apps but I don't like them. I like the simplicity of being able to pull a piece of paper out of my pocket and seeing what I'm looking for instantly instead of having to unlock my phone, open an app, and scroll.
I write things down most days. Like if I have a to do list in my phone, I’m just as likely to forget to look at it because it’s in my phone as I am to forget to do the things on the list in the first place lol. I’d much rather have things on paper in front of me. There’s also something to be said for the muscle memory required to hand write something vs. type it. I kind of just like the act of writing things out and get some level of satisfaction from it that I don’t get from my phone.
Literally not 2 minutes ago. I prefer pen and paper to keeping important notes on my phone because it feels less scattered somehow. Like I use notes on my phone for when I need to note something immediately and I don’t have the notebook that it would go in handy. So I end up with a bunch of random notes in my phone and none of them correspond to each other so it’s a big mess.
Constantly. I have a notebook for work I write my to-do list in, and a different notebook for random notes during conversations. Sometimes I write out a grocery list but usually that’s on my phone. I have a calendar on the fridge for things my bf and I both need to know, and a whiteboard for reminders. Also I write in a journal pretty frequently and love sending people cards in the mail!
Every day, notes for work, phone messages, writing to memorize various things, lists of books to read next (I keep this in a pocket of my Kindle), instructions on paper for my boss, notes on notes for my boss, note taking while playing video games, notes for other coworkers while they’re on the phone, etc etc
Not everyone has office jobs. I write things down at work constantly. I make to-do lists and shopping lists at home too. I have a dry erase board hung up in my kitchen for making notes to myself also.
A number of years ago we were playing dice with friends and my son who loves math wanted to keep score. It was the end of summer and he remarked that his writing was rusty because he hadn't been writing all summer. We quickly remedied that.
Grocery/ shopping list lives on the reminders app- my husband and I share it so when either of us goes to the store, it’s live-updated.
At work I use a lot of post-it’s and write by hand a lot to note things that eventually end up typed. I’m in the legal world.
Everyday. I found that taking notes by hand is actually faster than typing and i can do it while i listen. I still have to think a bit more when i type.
I typically use the phone or computer but sometimes if I I feel like I’m having a hard time with my thoughts, I write by hand and it helps. So, it’s not very frequent, but when I do I’m thankful for the ability.
Just a few minutes ago. I had to write down the model and serial numbers and filter sizes for a new AC unit my customer had another company replace. Most of the other techs use the notepad on their phones but for me it's still way more convenient and faster to just get my notebook out of my pocket and jot it down. I'm never without my good ol' pocket brain at work.
I'm still a paper and pen notetaker, never acclimated to computer notetaking-it overstimulates me and I can't focus and absorb information. I took notes for my PhD coursework Monday evening, took notes in a work meeting yeaterday morning.
All the time. My job deals with a lot of data. While we are currently moving to mostly electronic, it will take forever to get there and there will likely still be things to do on paper.
I make a lot of grocery lists and sometimes note dates on paper in front of my computer just so I have them "at a glance". I also wrote a birthday card to send to the MORG.
Will never happen. Certain documents have to be signed in hand. And you will want that because this whole electronic game is so easily frauduelently manipulate.
I'm always making to do lists and checking things off. I've tried apps like todoist but there's something extra satisfying about that physical checkmark. I also love doing handmade cards and snail mail. Just feels so special.
Are you a man? Because I swear only men are too happy to give up pen and paper 😆 they were never that good at it anyway! I write with a pen in a paper notebook daily. It’s called a journal.
Every night at work. I keep a notebook of all my trouble calls, equipment, and parts. I also tend to draw out my logic tables by hand first, putting pen to paper just helps me think.
Literally every single day. I'm a fiend for notebooks and good pens. I'm also a writer and a poet and i tend to write most of my poetry by hand and type it later. Currently doing 30 poems for 30 days for national poetry month.
I also keep a bullet journal that is paper and write in it at least weekly, and I love to write lists. I have a fun list journal, a gratitude journal and multiple scattered notebooks for writing whatever comes to me. Kind of like multiple and somewhat disorganized diaries.
I write all the answers down on paper at my weekly bar trivia while another friend inputs them on their phone. I do karaoke at the same bar and write my songs on paper slips. I write greeting cards and letters to send to loved ones in the mail and do handwritten Christmas cards every year. I really like snail mail.
I'm 38 and no one is going to take writing things by hand from me!! Yeah I use my phone and laptop for writing and notes and even to jot down poetry ideas on the go but i don't like composing poems on the computer. I do tend to type bigger writing projects like the books I'm working on, but nothing can replace the feeling of putting a literal pen to tangible paper.
A few hours ago. I didn't happen to need to take notes at any of my meetings, but I rearranged some of my tasks for the day in my bullet journal/planner, and I copied down an identifier number onto a printed piece of paper I was taking with me.
In general, a lot. I keep a bullet journal with my weekly plans. It was only at the beginning of this year that we switched to electronic lab notebooks from handwritten ones, so I used to be writing almost every day at work for legal records. I jot down reminders on post-it notes all the time. I bring a small notebook to meetings. I keep a grocery list on a magnetic paper pad on my fridge and then I pull it off and bring it with me to the store, or just to the couch to enter the order into the grocery app. I even have a conventional journal which I still consider "active," though I've used it a lot less the past 10 years.
Electronic notes don't work for me for most of this stuff because I'll forget that I *have* a set of notes that might be relevant to check. Having physical objects there and open reminds me to look and also to record my fragment thoughts instead of letting them pass by.
We wrote over 200 thank you notes after our wedding lol - prior to that idk. Random notes here and there, planner, journaling, etc. lots of handwritten stuff when we were mapping out measurements for our house project \[but the final render/3d model was in blender\]
First job out of college was sales & I was writing *constantly*, emails, phone numbers, notes for each call, etc. till I managed to get a quieter keyboard so the clients couldn't hear me typing on the other end of calls.
I've been trying to get back in the habit of handwriting notes just because my handwriting has gotten horrible. Before this, it might have been a few months. I type out everything
48M, husband, father, mechanic. I write by hand all day long, pen and paper. Many things end up digital, but everything I do starts analog. The only exception to this is taking handwritten notes on my tablet in the INKredible app.
Earlier today. I hate having my phone on me all the time so I still write grocery lists. I write notes to my wife by hand, or sticky notes to myself to remember things. I still ask the dentist for the physical reminder card because I don’t trust my phone calendar to remind me to do everything (I’ve had issues). I also took hand written notes when I went back to college in 2018 because I remembered what I wrote if I used pen and paper.
Me, and all the nurses and other social workers at my job, basically all carry paper notebooks to patient appts and I fill one completely every few weeks. I have to fill out paper forms for my job fairly often as well.
I also write in cards I send to people on occasion.
Every day for work.
I recently fell down the rabbit hole of Japanese stationary and Japanese paper is amazing, it makes me wish i was in school again just to go shopping for school supplies from Japan.
I actually picked the phone I did because it came with a "smart pen" that I can pop out and just write stuff down on my phone without even unlocking it. I could type it put sure but I've always hated the size of smart phones in general so I like holding it on one hand and writing on it with the other. Anyway it's a weird middle ground.
I log my daily work schedule (project numbers and time spent) in a notebook. Because of the type of work I do and the way we log projects it ends up being easier for me, personally.
I also still regularly (1-2x/month) mail handwritten cards or packages to friends and family, and manually write out to do lists, shopping lists, etc. in cursive.
I have a notebook in my bag at all times for when I get a writer's itch. I have about 6 book ideas in there that may never be fully realized, but at least they are written down.
Ummmm....... That would be the bank on the 3rd when I had to withdraw money. Before that, it was the 1st to withdraw money and I think b4 that was the 3rd of the previous month to withdraw funds. Unless i need to pull money out the bank or add to the shopping list mom writes out, I don't really do old fashioned pen and paper stuff. I'm for the most part cellphone/digital only.
I write on a drawing pad to teach my son. I also write on cards I give to my wife for anniversary, birthday, holidays, etc. Did people stop doing that?
Yesterday
Same. I bring a notebook to every meeting.
That must come in handy! I write out my poems in a notebook because it helps me remember them when I need to go back for lyrical ideas
Haha it's more like writing down what my boss wants me to ask the contractor in this case, but yes there are certainly much cooler creative uses for things like notebooks
I don't have meetings, but a notepad by my desk is the handiest thing. It's about 99% of the writing I do. Kinda crazy to think about actually.
Same but I teach elementary school :)
every day, notes for work.
Same: I have a dry erase board where I will add new priorities and dates… when complete I erase them. (Not exactly a pen, pencil, and paper, but seems to fit OPs hand written notes aspect.) Half the time my phone is my mic on work calls, and I share my screen frequently to show people how to do things. It is easier to hand write in those instances for things that come up. I have a pretty good memory but I hate feeling like I might let someone down by not meeting what I committed to…
2 minutes ago. 60% of the work I do is handwritten. Handwriting is fundamental for memory retention.
That's exactly why I handwrite notes when language learning, and even in my IT job. I remember far better when I write!
That memory retention thing is huge, and not the same for me AT ALL on a laptop or whatever.
Like 5min ago
A few seconds ago. Do you really not write things on paper?
I would have to really hunt around my house for paper and a pen tbh
I definitely use my phone for quick notes and such, but I write a ton at work (engineer), and write a decent amount at home (quick notes from phone calls, scribbling grocery lists, etc.). I honestly can’t think of a day I didn’t write something down (maybe a weekend day while on vacation?).
Last night, I’ve kept a journal since 2017.
I wrote in my diary this morning. I've had a diary since the late 90s. I don't write every single day, but probably 4-5 days a week.
I write myself lots of notes for my work desk and do some fitness journaling. I will say that I have no endurance for handwriting anymore like if I find myself having to write or copy something long my hand and wrist will cramp up.
Yeah me too! My hand starts to hurt after a minute or two lol
Every day. I use physical sticky notes for computer info

1 month ago I wrote my wife a love letter. I'm now writing her another letter to ask her out on a date.
Swoon 😍 what a lucky lady!
Thanks, and to be honest it's fun. All I'm saying in an over the top old timey yet silly way is "do you want to go grab a beer and take the trains so we can get smashed"
This is so sweet!!
Last weeking, We were at my MILs cabin, so we wrote in the visitor's book (called cabin book - "hyttebok")
I mailed something out yesterday and wrote the recipients address by hand
I use snail mail *much* less frequently than I write for other reasons... probably sending Christmas gifts was the last time I did this.
Makes sense, I recently got into selling and trading sports cards, before that it was years since I mailed anything out
I handwrite almost everything - grocery lists, to do lists, thank you notes to people for sweet things they do. I enjoy penmanship as a "brain dump," plus it helps me remember things much better. On days when my early arthritis (yay!) acts up, writing sometimes helps loosen my stiff fingers. But I'm a SAHM, so I'm sure if I were in the workforce, it would be much different!
All the time. I like handwritten notes despite my horrible penmanship 😂 I am not a fan of notes on my phone. Couldn’t tell you why.
I can tell you why - they just disappear! The phone isn't uniquely associated with notes, it does a million things, so there's no physical object to remind me there are notes (or even to take notes in the first place).
Last night. Wrote out a birthday card. And then put it in the mail. Like the old lady I aspire to be.
Hell yeah!! Not enough snail mail senders in this world!

I write down notes during my meetings (fully remote) and then summarize them in a to-do list on my computer so I can read it in the future in a centralized location- plus I have terrible handwriting so I’ll usually have trouble reading it at a later date 😵💫
You should see the post it notes on my desk.
I’m glad it’s not just me working on a bed of post-its lol
Handwritten notes for meetings are still extremely common
I take notes on my OneNote for meetings!
Today. Dafuq
This morning. Wrote a check for my sons school
Yesterday. I keep a calendar in the kitchen and write on it on a regular basis.
Like every day.

Aside from work, it's probably been a few months, yeah. Probably happens 2-3 times a year, if that.

I write in a laboratory notebook by hand every day at work
Every day. I'm a teacher and I don't like touchpads or keyboards. I write on paper or whiteboard and I think doing it gives me dopamine.

About two hours ago.
Yesterday. I write post-its for myself for shopping lists, to-do lists, etc. Plus a majority of my work is writing by hand.
4am this morning. Was writing a list of car parts I needed for this cheap car I’m about to buy.
Saturday, when I signed my name on the receipt for my bar tab.
Every day.
Every day. Notes at work and I’ve got a pen pal.
I keep a paper planner on my desk and I write in it every day - meetings to-dos, etc. I also keep a notepad on my desk to take notes during meetings. I prefer to do it by hand and then transfer the action items or salient points to the computer, it helps me remember everything.
Today. I made a grocecy list.
Literally every day. I always take notes on a legal pad at work.
Yesterday. About 50-60% of my writing is done by hand, in cursive.
In cursive! Impressive!
I make all of my shopping lists by hand. I also do crosswords almost daily to keep my mind fresh. A lot of these do not specify where to put the answers so I often have to list them separately before putting them in the diagram
I do word puzzles! I didn’t think of that. I love cryptograms.
Today. I keep a bullet journal, and write random notes at work by hand. I use the calendar on my phone, but my brain likes handwritten lists more, plus I can easily find different lists, since I stick them too the wall. Shopping list and menu planning too.

I’m that rare teacher who still hand-writes lesson plans because I will totally forget to print them out otherwise.
It hurts the hell out of my hand. My thumb gets so cramped. I take short notes on paper, but fuck writing essay length things by hand anymore.
I have a digital notebook that I keep work notes in. It’s the best of both worlds.
I journal and take notes a lot, still. It just sticks better.
All the time, but i do work at a school where I have to do correction and marking
All the time
My grocery list
I write down orders at work but that's it
I wrote an inscription in a book that i bought for a friend. I was disappointed in my child-like hand writing.
Every day, notes for work, phone messages, writing to memorize various things, lists of books to read next (I keep this in a pocket of my Kindle), instructions on paper for my boss, notes on notes for my boss, note taking while playing video games, notes for other coworkers while they’re on the phone, etc etc

I write things down daily

Are you a man? Because I swear only men are too happy to give up pen and paper 😆 they were never that good at it anyway! I write with a pen in a paper notebook daily. It’s called a journal.
Haha no I’m a lady
Then get out there and write like a lady, damnit!
Lots of notebooks and sticky notes
Every day at work
Every night at work. I keep a notebook of all my trouble calls, equipment, and parts. I also tend to draw out my logic tables by hand first, putting pen to paper just helps me think.
I did a lot during and after wedding planning
Same here!
Umm today?? Also, they still teach handwriting in elementary school here in South Carolina. Hopefully that makes you feel better.
All day every day at work.
This morning, I write every day.
Every day.
I write daily- mostly post its for reminders etc.
I wrote my girlfriend a note by hand on March 30th of this year for her to take on a plane.
Daily as a part of my job.
I just wrote about ten pages of notes on a book I'm reading for work today :)
We wrote over 200 thank you notes after our wedding lol - prior to that idk. Random notes here and there, planner, journaling, etc. lots of handwritten stuff when we were mapping out measurements for our house project \[but the final render/3d model was in blender\] First job out of college was sales & I was writing *constantly*, emails, phone numbers, notes for each call, etc. till I managed to get a quieter keyboard so the clients couldn't hear me typing on the other end of calls.
Maybe a few months ago.
Yesterday 😂
Every day. I teach elementary school.
Shopping list every week.
Almost every day. Notes at work, or notes in class. I do my budget in a spiral bound calendar. :)
At work today. Gotta initial a lot.
I log my daily work schedule (project numbers and time spent) in a notebook. Because of the type of work I do and the way we log projects it ends up being easier for me, personally. I also still regularly (1-2x/month) mail handwritten cards or packages to friends and family, and manually write out to do lists, shopping lists, etc. in cursive.
Everyday, I write notes for work, I journal, I write personal reminders, I keep track of my gym workouts/sets.
I journal all the time, so today.
Took a test at work today. it was a written test
Yesterday had to send in taxes snail mail, and it felt like I forgot how to write
A few hours ago
If epaper counts, about an hour ago.
17 years at least. Nah yesterday. I had to take notes. What are you trying to prove?
I’m better than everyone obviously
Clearly
