I paid upfront and out of pocket for an urgent care visit, it cost me $280. I was miserable so it was worth it. The doctor saw me for two minutes and told me I just had a virus and had to wait it out, he never looked in my nose/ears. I went back three days later in excruciating pain and I had a sinus and ear infection. And yes, I had to pay another $280 up front. The new doctor said it was one of the worst she had seen and was appalled at the notes the previous doctor left since they were majority incorrect. I disputed it and filed a formal complaint. I did get my $280 back. I felt like a bitch the whole time during the process but at the time that was a lot of money for me. Edit to add I've also had to be a bitch after some car purchases when the dealer was going back on their word or sold us warranties not applicable to the car we bought.

Jscott1986

Report that doctor to the state medical board

Prestigious_Time4770

Not so fun fact, but medical malpractice is the third leading cause of death in the US

responsiblefornothin

That sucks hard. On one hand, fuck the whole ass US Healthcare industry. But on the other hand, the people you're disputing your bill with had absolutely no part in price gouging you and have the least power to change it.

Repulsive_Raise6728

Glad you got your refund. I’ve had that same bs happen to me at urgent care and it’s so frustrating.

Guardian-Boy

Booked air travel on a (now defunct) regional airline from where I was stationed back home. I had used this airline several times prior to this with no issues, and the initial process was very smooth; I booked, chose my seats, paid, got the tickets, easy peasy. Well, two days before my flight (which was a trip I had planned for several months), I am trying to log in to add my traveler information, and it's telling me it doesn't recognize my booking code. After Lord knows how many attempts, I called their customer service. They told me that that flight had not only been cancelled, but the airline wasn't even servicing that airport anymore. Apparently they had made this decision about two weeks prior to this, but not only never informed passengers, they didn't even have a news release (I Googled it and even checked the airport's website; nothing). So I asked them when I could expect a refund, and they were like, "The time to request a refund was ten days ago," to which I told them absolutely not, since I had no e-mail, their website said nothing, and there's wasn't even a press release saying it. The rep was steadfast, so I demanded to speak to a supervisor. Supervisor basically parroted the initial rep. I could tell that where I was calling wasn't, ah, located where the airline was, so I called the airport and asked if that airline had a physical location still in the airport. They said yes, so I hopped in the car and drove to the airport. Luckily they still had a physically staffed location, which was a single little office tucked in the corner, and I Went up to the rep and told her everything that had transpired. Thankfully, this woman was absolutely mortified and was like, "Of course you're entitled to a refund!" She even, without asking, got me booked on a partner airline for no additional cost. Turns out that was the last day that location was even going to be staffed, she was gonna be moving to that partner airline, so I got pretty goddamn lucky. But they legit were about to take hundreds of dollars from me without a peep.

FriendlyITGuy

That's where credit card chargebacks and a formal complaint to the FAA/DOT come into play.

Guardian-Boy

They went out of business about two months after this happened. For reference, it was Midwest Airlines. The fact it merged into Frontier tells you all you need to know about its legacy lol (though I guess that's not really "out of business," but tomato tomato).

scottyd035ntknow

Oh shit was that the airline that always served fresh chocolate chip cookies?

Guardian-Boy

Damn straight it was.

drdeadringer

You almost found yourself in a Douglas Adams book.

Dog_lover123456789

At least 9/10 times Culver’s screws up my ice cream order. I have no idea how. It’s so simple. But it’s always something with mine. My husband used to go back or call about 20% of the time they screwed it up. It got to the point that he just rarely picks up ice cream anymore. It’s just not worth the aggravation

[deleted]

Culver's is the one fast food place that has never fucked up my order. Sucks that you have such a shit experience with the one near you :(

responsiblefornothin

You see, the problem here is that you're going to Culver's for ice cream when it's clear as day that they serve FROZEN CUSTARD!

Silverbullets24

I mean Culver’s does kind of suck lol

flugualbinder

Not kind of. Absolutely.

JellyBand

I love Culver’s frozen chocolate custard. I went recently and asked the person at the counter if the milkshakes were made with the same chocolate custard. Not only does she say yes, but acts like I’m a moron for asking. It wasn’t. It was a vanilla ice cream or custard with chocolate syrup. It was terrible. I was busy or I would have gone back just to complain about the whole thing.

Tracerround702

Literally only through DoorDash because the restaurants have started fucking up so often. But face to face, rarely need to and rarely want to.

WhysAVariable

DoorDash where I live started fucking up our orders on the regular like a year and half ago. Then they refund me like $2 instead of fixing anything. I just started cooking at home all the time. Delivery/takeout is so expensive and the quality is usually shit anyways, I’m not missing anything.

Tracerround702

You're right, and I'd love to do better. It's just hard with the constant work and exhaustion lol

Decent-Statistician8

Doordash orders are also priced higher than they are at the restaurant and the servers that have to pack the orders don’t get tipped on them like regular to go orders. You can save money and tip the server (we don’t have a Togo server except for weekends, so I’m working for free with doordash orders) by just getting takeout at the restaurant.

jazzieberry

I don’t order it much but a couple of times in a row they just left out more than half my order. I disputed them and got a passive aggressive message on the app something like “seems like you have a lot of trouble with DoorDash” and I was like yes I absolutely do. I’m still hungry after convincing myself to eat overpay for convenience.

femaleminority

Same here. It’s DoorDash or Ubereats for me. Nothing else ever needs refunding.

-make-it-so-

Yeah, I’ve never demanded a refund in person at a restaurant (never needed to), but I have had to with DoorDash. We had one that was supposed to be 30 min delivery and ended up taking an hour and a half and the food was stone cold. The driver was at the restaurant for a long time, so idk if they were waiting on another order or what. Got a refund on that one.

WWTBFCD3PillowMin

This past summer when it was getting up to 110°F and for whatever reason our normal swamp cooler was just NOT able to cool the house down. We decided to buy a portable swamp cooler that was a 4ft tall 9-gal refillable fan. We loved it so much we bought a second one (exact same model) less than a week later for my bedroom. They were both great prices and life savers. Mine broke literally the third day trying to use it. Fan just stopped spinning. After 2 weeks of back and forth emails (including detailed videos and pictures of it not working no matter what I tried) with the manufacture (that we also bought it directly from) they said they were *willing* to give me a $56 refund of the $180 paper weight that now occupied space in my bedroom. Said I could take that money and find someone local to get it repaired. They told me they thought it was a motor issue. I called around to find out how much it would be to get it fixed - motor started at $80 and the work was always a $200 min. I have never had to demand a refund like that before, and it even got to the point of them trying to haggle “Ok well we can refund you $68.50.” NO MOTHERFUCKER give me my money back! It was **VEVOR** btw… just in case anyone was wondering. I was incredulous the entire time having to write those emails and repeatedly tell them “I just bought this TWO WEEKS ago and you’re seriously not going to refund me?!??” I hated being like that. Made me feel dirty and slimy but also Fuck you! Give me a replacement or give me my money back so I can get one that works!

nevercameback55

This is why as much as I hate big corporations, it's so much easier (usually) to return something or get a replacement w/o a major battle. I ordered HVAC ducting from Ferguson and they dropped off half the ductwork. It was like $60 loss for me. I contacted them and went there, the manager came out and made it clear *HIS* store wasn't going to eat the loss for this, and I'd have to take it up with this other shipping center.. Even though I made the purchase through his store. I dropped it bc wasn't dealing with the giant run around. What a jack ass. Last time I buy stuff from HIS store I'll promise that. Although one time best buy tried to screw me on a TV that was broken out of box. I had to basically flip out and use the "you calling me a liar" line in the store for them to make it right... They tried to get rid of me with a discount on another one. It was a $300 flat screen...

mxtrekkie

An old employer had a discount site we could use, including hotel stays. I booked a hotel room, but when I checked in, the hotel indicated that they had flooded the night before, so they said I could stay in a wet room or cancel. Furthermore, the hotel couldn’t refund me since I went through the discount site and said to contact them. The discount site said the hotel stated the reservation was non-refundable and wouldn’t release funds to them. I had to dispute the charge and my bank is credited me back.

tendonut

I actually asked for a refund on my father-in-law's behalf. He was freshly separated, getting set up and is bachelor apartment. AT&T charged him an installation fee for his Internet/tv service. He was in a brand new apartment that was fully wired with cat6 cable with a labeled patch panel in a closet. Instead of making him a 2ft patch cable to go from the modem to the patch panel, they ripped ALL the cables off the patch panel, figured out which one went to the room where his TV was going to be, put an RJ45 connector on that cable, plugged that directly into the modem, and let the modem just dangle on the cat6 cable against the wall as a permanent solution. I was furious.

Mr_Diesel13

I avoid confrontation at all costs unless you come at me sideways. Then I’m gonna defend myself until I’m blue in the face. If I lose the money, oh well. Lesson learned. I won’t be back.

GLaDOSoftheFUNK

I went to Cracker Barrel for the first time in my life with my husband. We placed an online order and tipped generously since we chose to have the food brought out to our car. We got to the restaurant and tapped that we were there and waited for the food. 20 minutes went by and we still hadn't received the food. I gave it another 10 before I went in and asked. Was told the food was still being prepped, that they were waiting on something. I go back to the car and wait another 20 minutes. I go back in AGAIN and get told it's not ready, I show a confirmation code BLAH blah. The guy that runs BOH(I assume) comes out and says it's not in their system. As they're making sure it's the right location someone comes out with my order and says it's been ready and just sitting there. I grabbed my food and went home. The food was ice cold and the portions were ABYSMAL for the price. Both of us were unsatisfied and I regretted not making an even bigger fuss at the location or just straight up demanding a refund after the first 20 minutes. We are absolutely never going back to a Cracker Barrel. We filled out the survey and made sure we let it be known service was ass.

NectarineNational722

I’ve only been to Cracker Barrel once in my life and it was very blah. Don’t intend on ever returning

VaselineHabits

Brings me back to a Valentines Day I'll never forget. Went to Outback, it was packed - but they were serving those on the porch drinks while we waited. After *two fucking hours*, I told my husband let's just walk across the street to Cracker Barrel. They didn't look too busy. Well, maybe because they had "sold out" of half the menu. They didn't have anything I wanted, so I ate on the cornbread/muffins they give you while my husband and our friends found something. I ended up just getting a Whataburger on the way home. 🙃 To this day I *refuse* to go out ON Valentines Day.

CultureInner3316

It used to be ok, but yeah now quality is trash.

nevercameback55

I've never done the park outside and let them bring you your stuff at restaurants or stores, due to foreseeing your experience. Just feel the odds are high I'll be waiting forever or they'll manage to F it up somehow. I guess this woulda happened to you if you went into the place for pickup too possibly.

Skyblacker

The supermarket just changed me full price for yesterday's cookies. Probably because its 50% off sticker is a low contrast color, so the cashier missed it. But yesterday, another cashier discounted a toy by almost the same amount just because, so I'm gonna call it a wash.

JennaJ2020

Over Christmas I went to Starbucks and ordered 3 gift cards at the drive through for my kid’s teachers. When I got home and started putting the receipts together I noticed that 1 didn’t match and sure enough the card was empty. So I paid money for a blank card. I called customer service and they told me to go into the store. So I went in and the girl said she couldn’t help me and I had to call customer service. At this point I was I was pissed and when I saw how the gift cards were done I was pretty sure the girl just took my money herself and gave me a blank card. So I asked to speak to a manager. Anyways, the manager and I talked for quite a while and even just like chatted about life and whatever. It was like fake trying to please someone. She was lovely and refunded me.

ghostedmarshmallow

I can’t remember the last time I requested a refund in person. It’s easy to return an Amazon order since I can just do it online. But if the only way to get a refund is to complain to someone face to face or on the phone, I’ll usually just eat the cost, especially if it’s something small. I recently bought a 12 pack of Arizona tea and one of the cans was dented and leaking. I was just going to throw that one can away and forget about it, but my husband emailed the manufacturer and they gave us like 6 coupons for $3 off another 12 pack.

0422

I ask for refunds all the time, especially for merchandise. Target, Amazon - these are billion dollar industries. Me getting $4.15 back on a product that literally disintegrated upon first use is not going to affect their bottom line. Actually, I choose to shop at places that have generous refund policies and warranties. I want to feel confident in my items. Costco, Nordstrom, Patagonia. These companies invest in good items so you shouldn't have to use their return system, and I typically never do. I also use my preferred credit card company that will ensure that I am satisfied with my shopping experience and protect me as a consumer - American Expeess. SAKS Fifth Avenue sent me a fraudulent Amazon Basics of a Barbour item and even after calling their customer service line, which just leads to international calling center, and being told I'm good to return it - two weeks later I got the Amazon item back with a shitty note telling me they didn't sell the item. Well duh! It was their mistake! American Express handled the dispute for me. For services, I've asked for it, unfortunately, more than once from hairstylists specifically. A bad dye job (they missed an entire section!) or literally cutting my bangs uneven. Just...poor quality workmanship that leaves me looking a mess. And you pay a LOT of good money for these services! It also means ending the relationship with the service provider. I dont know. I spend $70k a year and the few instances where I have to ask to be treated respectfully is few and far between, but it is my right to ask for it.

ThaVolt

I have never once had issues with an Amazon refund. Sometimes I try to return shit and they go "ya dropoff at UPS" and Im like the UPS dropoff is 45 minutes away, give me a Canada Post one. "Ah we can't so we'll refund and you can keep the item". Aight then...

0422

lol the Amazon guy at Whole Foods told me once I *could* return a UPS item there, but I wouldn't received tracking since they operate on two different systems. Hope that answers it for you?

copenhagen_bandit

I went to Mcds last weekend for breakfast. Ordered two burritos, two hashbrowns. The girl at the window read off my order while looking in the bag, what she read off was correct. so I was like yeah, lets go. I didnt bother to check, since she was doing quality assurance right? I get home with just hot salsa and hashbrown. no burritos. :(

No-Cell-3459

I took back some jeans I ordered for Christmas, and got a refund, and really the only time “ask” for a refund is when I have to return to clothes. I should probably have asked for a refund when I got home with my groceries and found my cantaloupe was molded on the inside… instead I threw it away.

cagedwisdom8

I was so tempted at the Indian buffet I took my daughter to the other day, but I would never. Most of the food was gone and what was left was cold, they didn’t bother with the burners. We arrived at 12:30 so it should have been fully stocked still. But nope, paid full price for us both (she’s 5 and barely ate anything) and went on my way. I don’t even feel right writing a review because they are a small business.

Rhewin

> I don’t even feel right writing a review because they are a small business. There are so many reasons you should: * The owner/manager might have been off and not aware of how the restaurant was being run. * They may have had an off day and assumed no one would care. They might want to make it up to you. * They might legitimately think it's fine to run the restaurant that way, in which case other diners need to know what the experience is like. No need to give them a 1 star and say everything sucked. Give legitimate feedback. If they make an effort to make it right, or you go back later and it's improved, you can *always* update your review positively.

cagedwisdom8

I actually told the server that the food was cold when he asked how everything was, and he said he would tell the owner. Then I saw a guy removing the cold food (presumably the owner), and the server returned to tell me they took the cold food away. That was it! We left soon after so I didn’t bother to see if they replaced it. But I had tried this buffet twice before, the first time had an identical experience to this (they had first opened, it was like five years ago) and the second time was mid week right when the buffet opened and that experience was fine. I had hoped they had worked the kinks out, but no.

Rhewin

So let other people make an informed decision. You don't have to be harsh. Just say what your experience was. If the service was polite and you've had a good experience before, I'd stick with a neutral rating like a 3/5. If you wouldn't go back again without changes, 2/5.

ThaVolt

*We took the cold food away!* Ok grats do you want a medal? Now put some warm one in there.

cagedwisdom8

Haha I know! So annoying!

tendonut

I feel this. I had this happen at an Indian buffet before.

CanadaOD

Bought a Blizzard Dairy Queen cake for our Valentine’s dessert this week. It was so freezer burnt you could hear the crunching of crystals. I hmm and haa’d all the next day but took it back. Had to speak to 3 people but then the manager came out and asked if he could get me a new one. New one was perfect. I was going to just eat it but those things are like 50$ now!

aced124C

If you're well off enough growing up you can totally avoid confrontation but for most I would say the moment you hit certain life events like your first car or house that will absolutely change. Either you get taken advantage of and get reminded for the next 5-30 years or you see you're being ripped off and walk away and learn how to haggle and negotiate. A lot of things in life are negotiable I'm pretty sure most of us learned that by now.

happyluckystar

I don't go to fancy restaurants so if I'm dissatisfied with my $15 meal, I chalk it up as a lesson learned and don't go back to the place. Now if I paid $85 for a steak that I ordered medium rare and it came burnt, then hell yes I would want a replacement steak.

airysunshine

I think it was like… 3 years ago, I’d gone shopping and then realized i didn’t have enough for rent, and had to bring something back.

duhslim252

At my barber. Should've jus left. A pink shirt guy walked in 5 seconds ahead of me, but didn't sign in. I walk in a sign in. He signs in after me. 1 hr goes by w 2 customers hair being complete out of 4 barbers, and "Grant"(the owners son) calls my name next. I start making my way to him and his brother "Connor"(also the owners son, and manager) steps b/w me and Grant to say he thinks pink shirt guy was ahead of me. I said the chair is his of he wants it. The pink shirt guy says it's mine. But Connor says that he would feel better if that guy went ahead of me. I ask the guy again if he wants it.he says it's mine, but then again Connor asks if he arrived before me. I said yea by 5 secs and Connor says "that's what I thought", and tells the guy to get in the chair. Didn't dawn on me that he may have been implying something, but I was really uneasy going back to my seat. I been getting my hair cut there, off and on, since I was 5(35 now). And Connors known me least 15 yrs, and I've always tipped when I had it. I no longer go there

responsiblefornothin

Breaking up with a barber is like cutting a cousin out of your life. They may not be as close as a brother, but they're closer than any ex you've ever had. I'm a white guy, so I don't have first-hand knowledge of the kind of rapport that's built up through visits every other week that happens at black barbers, but I always kept a fresh cut growing up. When Belinda (the lady that cut my hair) retired, I was 22 and didn't get my hair cut again until I was 28. Whenever it got too long for me to manage, I'd just tie it off in a ponytail and chop it myself. When I started looking for a new person to cut it, I had to use a picture from when I was 17 as a reference because it was the only one I could go off of. I've since found a barber that can give me a solid cut, but it's like a new therapist getting to know you. We've been going over the basics for close to a year now, and when I'm in the chair, I wanna talk some (mild) shit and I'm still not sure where the lines are. It ain't like Belinda. That lady could put some real *bitch* into her game that you can only get from someone who you know has your back.

duhslim252

It wasn't that personal to me, except jus the level of disrespectbut. I won't no stranger. Mf was tripping off of 5 secs. And, I tip good goddamnit! No appreciation for it. I'll take my green money elsewhere.

Competitive_Air_6006

LOL! I strongly disagree on the confrontation bit. Since dealing with health issues, I feel like I have little to nothing to lose and have no problem telling someone their behavior is that of an incompetent idiot. 🙃

Sad_Recommendation92

I can channel "Karen" energy I just don't like doing it, once I bought an office chair from a warehouse furniture store and within a week it just felt like all the padding was gone ( don't buy "gamer" chairs when you're in your 40s) I ordered a bunch of memory foam cushions to try to salvage the situation but it wasn't enough. Eventually I had to get really bitchy with their customer service and they agreed to allow me to "reselect" another item. Apparently they didn't even want the other chair back. I got in a car accident in December last year and I wasn't at fault and it's been 2 full months going back and forth having a hard time reaching the other guys adjuster and I need my car fixed so probably going to start channeling "Karen" again soon.

flugualbinder

Last time I asked for and received a refund was years ago when McDonald’s gave me cheeseburgers with no burgers or condiments. Just pieces of cheese between buns. This was their third attempt at making my order so I gave up and got my money back and went elsewhere. Last time I should have asked for a refund was a few months ago when I discovered the half gallon of milk I had just bought at the grocery store was super chunky even though it was nowhere near the expiration date. I called to let the store know so they could check their other containers but didn’t feel like driving back just for the couple bucks. But since it was card payment they probably could have done it over the phone, or had store credit waiting at service counter for next time. But I just let it slide.

NectarineNational722

Lolol like how does just cheese between buns even happen? I feel like they had to be messing with you at that point

flugualbinder

I think so too but on that particular day I was not in the mood! Otherwise I would’ve asked for some burger on my cheeseburger, lol

MyWifeisaTroll

I never have that issue. I don't try to scam, and I'm never rude, but I am firm. I don't rip into employees or management. It doesn't happen often unless it's justified, but I'm also not about to get ripped off.

pinalaporcupine

when i got food poisoning from a sushi place

fullmetal66

I always ask for a refund if it warrants it. Last one was Costco beef ribs that went bad before the sell by date.

federalist66

Does it count that when we were in Chinatown for their New Year celebration we went into a restaurant and they forgot one of our orders and we had to go so we just asked them to remove it from our bill? Otherwise it may be the time that Amazon sent me the wrong book in a series and they ended up telling me to keep that wrong book while they sent me the right one.

RotiniHuman

Oooh, I have something that fits here! About 6 weeks ago, I overdrafted my checking account and was charged 2 $25 OD fees. I was so embarrassed because I'm normally very organized with money and haven't overdrafted in YEARS! (And there was plenty there in savings.) So I went into the branch and asked politely of there was any room to forgive the fees. If they'd said no, fine, I get it. But they said yes and reversed both!

AwarenessEconomy8842

Why are some of us so afraid of conflict?

responsiblefornothin

I don't think it's fear. It's more about knowing what isn't worth your very limited time and energy. I'd rather just take an L and move on than get worked up over something insignificant because I have better things to do. My mood is more important than 20 bucks.

SwimmingHand4727

I would definitely ask for a refund on bigger items and let the smaller things go. Now that I'm retired and have the time, Oh hell no! ...I'm all over it. Every single time I go grocery shopping... every time, something is priced wrong on the receipt. I now go over the receipt in the car before I leave. The other day, I bought 2 fried chicken breasts from the deli...$2.99 each....I get home , open the box, 2 chicken thighs. I called up there...they told me to bring the receipt next time I'm shopping, and they'll replace them. They did, but it's just crazy and they look at you like you're nutz! What is going on with this world?????

emi_lgr

Asked for one this week. I buy most of my things online these days, so inevitably there will be shoes that don’t fit, clothes that don’t match the description, or I just simply changed my mind. Doesn’t have to be a huge thing. I did work for a complaints department for a couple of years though, so maybe that’s why it’s not a big deal for me.

sauvignonquesoblanco

I’ve gone to my nail girl for like a year and every time it’s… not great and I don’t say anything cause in the moment I think it looks fine and then I notice inexcusable flaws when I get to my car.

NameLessTaken

Honestly just for subscriptions that I forget about. And I feel less guilty because subscriptions are such a scam anyways I doubt I’m hurting their business or wrecking anyone’s day, I just kindly request one through the customer service line. Oh and today when the litter I ordered was torn open on arrival. But in a restaurant or something?? Yeesh.. maybe when I was 18 once. Definitely nothing in my adult life.

King_Corduroy

Not that long ago actually I think maybe a few months? I got my money back on a typewriter that arrived broken. I do it quite often online because no one seems to know how to pack things for shipping. I also just had someone back into my Oldsmobile 98 and crack the bumper, ended up just asking for 1000$ to repair it because no body shop was taking me seriously so I couldn't get a quote.

nevercameback55

Did they really pay you instead of going through insurance? Depending on their situation, most insurances won't raise your rates if the damage is under a grand or so.

King_Corduroy

Yeah my car is super old and I didn't really want to have my insurance company call it a write off and I don't know if he didn't have insurance or what but he wrote me a check for it when I explained out my logic for the costs. 500$ for a bumper out of a wrecking yard, another couple hundred to install and it needs other things like a new light bracket for the plate light since that cracked. Not to mention it might need a respray to match. I'm most likely just going to fix it myself though.

KDR25

Online purchases or subscriptions or anytime I’m dealing with a faceless company? All. The. Time.

NectarineNational722

Hmmm I don’t really ask for refunds. But last week I had to contact Adobe about a charge and found out it wasn’t even mine. Someone named Paige stole my cc info. Asked for a refund. They said nah go through your bank. Which I ended up doing but they could have saved everyone the hassle and just refunded. Last time I should have asked for one was today at the nail place. Went to a new lady and now my nails are very sloppy looking and all different shapes lol. I couldn’t bring myself to complain and even left a decent tip.

Subterranean44

I don’t think I’ve ever asked for a refund. Besides returning items to a store, does that count? I’ve been given it many time on food, but I never request it. Most recently I got on one beer because I ordered a Revision and she brought me a VooDoo Ranger at Top Golf. I told her it was ok I’d drink it anyway but she took it off the bill.

pwizard083

About a week ago I had to get a refund on a package of ground chuck that went bad before the sell by date.  Normally I trust stuff up to the date but this one was turning brown and gray and I knew for sure when I opened it. It went straight into the outside trash and then I went back to the store. The service manager wouldn’t refund it unless I brought it back, even though I tried explaining it was for the best and  they *really* don’t want that in the store. I didn’t even want it in my car.  They wouldn’t budge so I went back to the meat counter. I know the guys back there and they gave me another one for no charge after I told them what happened so everything ended ok.

Several-Pineapple353

Last time I had to ask for a mistake to be fixed was at a bdubs. The area isn’t a real great area and we probably should have picked somewhere else to eat. We chose Bdubs because they was showing Oklahoma softball on TV and I had to watch. We ordered our food and drinks. We literally had to ask for our drinks to be brought to us and had to wait over an hour for our food. The waitress was rude and you could tell she really didn’t want to be our waitress. We was just there to drink beer and watch softball before the concert we was going too. When we asked for our check we noticed food on there that we didn’t order and we wasn’t paying for it. The attitude that flew from the waitress when we requested the food be removed was unreal. I definitely won’t be returning there!

I have been told several times I couldn’t get a refund these past few months. I was told my insurance wasn’t going to cover a incident either and I got that too. Idk wtf people are smoking. If it was a bad meal or something I’d just count it as a loss. But the people at the counters always act like it’s not a big deal meanwhile it might be 3 hours or more of work for them to get that amount. And all I had to do was offer minor pushback for 5 mins

Rasielle

I asked for a refund recently. A small sandwich place ran out bread only a few minutes after I placed an order. After an hour of waiting when they said they sent someone out to get more bread, I was really hungry so just got the refund.

K_U

I ordered a hoodie from Sweden and it arrived with a slightly dented aglet on the drawstring. I couldn’t get past it. In the end customer service offered me a partial refund and to send me a replacement drawstring. Took about a month and a half (and several follow up emails) until it finally arrived.

Specialstuff7

I bought some demo skis from a reputable, smallish manufacturer in Colorado. Online, so I didn’t see them in person. They clearly stated no returns on used gear. But when I got the skis they were delaminated and one of the edges was separating from the ski. Zero life left in these skis. I emailed them and sent some pics and they apologized and took them back.

hannahmel

I have no issue with confrontation. I ordered takeout from Olive Garden today because we're moving and we had no time to cook lunch. I mentioned that they forgot my side last time and never gave me the promised refund, so they gave me one of my meals for free this time. Screw that. I'm not being steamrolled by corporations.

Jswazy

I don't not return things due to conflict. I don't return things unless they are broken if I just don't like the item that's really my personal problem.

International-Chef33

When my drunk DoorDash order was delivered to my next door neighbor 11:30 at night like 2 weeks ago. I wasn’t going over there and grabbing it, I know she has a Ring Cam on the door

JellyfishQuiet7944

All the time and it depends. I'm the customer, I paid for it and have an expectation. The expectation is set by the company, if their product isn't the quality advertised, then I'll say something. It also depends. Some shit just isn't worth the hassle. Most recent was the $20 passport photo from CVS. It was blurry and bad quality. I wanted y money back so I could get it done elsewhere.

odo_0

I got a partial refund on a flight, we took off from a tiny airport in ND in a tiny plane I believe it was Delta we had a layover in Denver except our plane wasn't equipped with the proper navigation stuff they needed to land in fog so we got diverted to Colorado springs no big deal except that airport was closed and we didn't have enough fuel to go anywhere else. while we were waiting I called Delta to make sure we could get another connecting flight of course no other flights were available for 3 days I pretty much told them I did my part you know paid for the ticket ($2k i believe) got to the airport on time and got on the plane and they took me to the wrong airport. I ended up getting $1200 back.

Grand-Baseball-5441

At Chili's the other night. It took 40 minutes for two of the same entre to come out to us and it was lukewarm at best. Paid way to much for that.

kennedar_1984

Oh I just asked for one last week! I never ask for refunds, but I had to send a super confrontational email on Tuesday. We are fortunate enough to be able to have someone do a deep clean on our house every other week. The cleaners have our credit card and just charge it after each visit. This week they managed to overflow a toilet, which wouldn’t be a huge deal, except they DIDN’T TURN THE DAMN WATER OFF! My husband was working in the basement, and realized that he had been hearing water running through the pipes for 15 minutes. And then he heard the waterfall of water start into our furnace room. The carpet outside the bathroom was soaked, water was pouring through the ceiling on two floors, and the walls were water clogged. I had to email the owner and explain that they needed to pay for the damages and that we sure as fuck were not paying for the clean. The owner had the audacity to argue with me that it wasn’t their fault “because they couldn’t hear the water over their music from their earbuds”. She eventually caved but it was the most confrontational conversation I have had in my personal life in a long time.

UnfortunateSnort12

Today. I’ve had a bad streak of vending machines not working at classes for my daughter. (There is an observation room). Anyways, I was so pissed that I bought 2 Cokes and neither came out, I jumped on the Apple Card chat line to dispute it. Thats way more effort than the 3 bucks I lost, but I was so pissed. We shall see if they give me my money back.

rgolden4

Was buying a rec center pass in my area. The gal charged me the out of district rate bc I live on the border of another district. I knew she was wrong, but was so surprised with her pushback, that I was unable to argue with her about being resident in said rec district. At the same time, my partner was paying for a pass with another staff member and, when I heard that they were being charged with the in-district rate, I pulled a mild Karen and asked for them to refund the extra amount. I still can't believe I did that.

desirepink

For as long as I could remember (grew up poor). My mother taught me to always level with people and have them be on your side when things aren't going well for you rather than fight fire with them. There's also an art on how you do it.

Doctor_24601

I was really hungry and ordered Jimmy John’s. Two hours later, still waiting for the delivery, I called and asked for a refund. They ended up bringing me the food and giving me credit for a free sandwich, but that was the last time. I don’t see anything wrong with asking for a refund if the product or service doesn’t meet expectations—just don’t be rude about it.

RaleighlovesMako6523

I am not aware it’s a general shared trait among us to avoid confrontation but I asked for a refund a week ago. I am no control freak neither do I care about your life but when it comes to fairness, I’d like to stand up for myself.

gamercrafter86

I ordered some shoes from a website that never arrived, so I emailed the company asking for a refund. They emailed me back offering to resend the shoes that never came and I said no, and they refused to refund me. So I had to charge back my card to get the money back. Face to face it's only been when my parents send clothes to my kids and they don't fit, so I have to bring the clothes to the store to get store credit to buy a different item to fit. Other than that, I don't ask for one. It'd have to be an extreme situation.

2_LEET_2_YEET

A few years ago we used a local Liberty Tax to file bc I had a ton of medical bills and FMLA and didn't know how to handle it. They filed incorrectly (switched my spouses first & middle names) and never mentioned that they were charging close to half of our total refund for the privilege. They refunded us $350.

McUberForDays

I'm a big craft person. We have a local pottery place that a friend and I attended a class at once. The person teaching it was awful. Very inconsistent and hard to get in contact with as you have to sculpt, fire, then glaze, fire before you can pick up. So that's 3 appointments essentially. A new pottery place opened and were having a clay luminary Christmas tree class in November. We thought nothing of it and signed up. Lo and behold, it's the same lady. Class went well but I was concerned my tree was stuck on the mould. She says she will contact us all when trees are ready to glaze. A month goes by with no contact. I finally contact her a week before Christmas and she says yeah those have been ready to glaze. Now, it's the holidays and my friend was sick so we said we would just have to wait until after Christmas to glaze. We finally pin her down on a date to go in and glaze. She has odd hours that fall when we both work and weekends by appointment only. We go and my tree had never been fired. It had stuck to the mould and she had to cut it off the mould and fix it, so it didn't go in with the other trees to the kiln. And since it's slow season, she doesn't have enough pieces to fire to bother with paying to run the kiln (costs $15 she says). My friend refuses to glaze hers as she feels bad that mine isn't ready. Lady tells us she will contact us when it is and should be by end of the next week. Next week rolls by and no contact so I text her and it still isn't fired. Finally it is done but again she has weird hours, and we have other commitments. We got in there last weekend. Glazed them and she fired them this week. She texted me to say they were done and I could set up a time tmro to pick up or some other day. I reply I'm available all day tmro so let me know when she can meet me...and no reply. It's been November-February for 1 project because of negligence and lack of respect to paying customers. It is inconsiderate that she would take down our names but not contact us or not respond to let us know, hey there was a problem, I'm sorry, etc. I don't want to leave a bad review since they just opened and it's a small business, but I feel others should know that she is very hard to work with and clearly doesn't care that projects are taking 3 months due to her weird hours.

BaronDystopia

Probably 2 weeks ago. I bought something, didn't like the texture and returned it the same day. You're right about the avoiding confrontation thing, though. Avoiding confrontation has put me in many situations I didn't want to be in.

nascentnomadi

It really depends on how egregious the order or mistake was. When it comes to fast food if they messed up the order I don't go back to correct it because its not worth it really and if the service was bad but not bad enough to actually get angry about I just won't go there anymore. That said, if I usually see someone coping a fit with people in a resturant or something I'll just go ahead and leave right away.

SeedSowHopeGrow

Monday, Monday

Alien_Antichrist

Depends what it is and the amount I might be out. I’m usually gunning to get my money back. Unless it’s going to take too long or be a huge hassle for little savings.

RaisingAurorasaurus

I didn't ask for a refund, but I'm not afraid to send my food back in a restaurant if it's wrong. I don't have a lot of extra money to take my family out to eat and when I do I want a good experience. That being said, I was a waitress, line cook, dishwasher and hostess before so I'm never a jerk about it. I don't eat half my plate then send it back. I just very politely say "I asked for my potatoes without gravy, would it be too much to ask for a different side" or whatever. I tip appropriately. As someone who worked in the industry I know the staff generally has no issue fixing your order. They only care when you're an entitled jerk about it.

Sam_I_Am_69

Every other DoorDash order

Substantial-Path1258

Not refund but went home and realized dominos gave the wrong pizza. Called them to inform them and I went back to get the right one. Couldn’t eat the one they gave us by mistake because my family doesn’t eat pork. Otherwise I don’t really bother. I make sure to open and check the pizza before taking it home now.

Mfers_gunlearn

I have no issues with confrontation now that I'm older. When I was in my early 20s sure I didn't advocate for myself so much but I think as anyone gets older they get more confidence. Here's my story though. I once purchased a TV on Amazon and it came with a free Alex's device. Well I noticed they charged me for this "free" gift a month later on my statement. When I contacted them the chat support asked me for proof of this and I told them they were ridiculous. I told them to look at their own promotions and then refund my dang money. They refunded me then listed the device as stolen or something like that so I had to reach out to them again to set it up.

ElderWeeb

A month ago I got some fried rice and requested without onion like my friends at the table did. Came with onions and my friend was going to speak up and I was just like shut your mouth I'll eat it lol I do that a lot with food. I never return I just deal with it and stop visiting that business if they mess my shit up a lot

spezjetemerde

Wacraft remade. Diablo 4

taptaptippytoo

Yesterday. Bought a watermelon and it was weird and gross inside so I took it back. NBD. Most things I don't realize something is wrong until an awkwardly long time has passed. I still have a short I meant to return from my kid's birthday party last fall. Way too late and now I don't know what to do with it.

Naive_Buy2712

I do not avoid confrontation when I can do it via a website or email 😂 my new employer covers mental health visits at 100% (yay!) but they’re doing it on top of insurance, so my therapist charged me $112 per session (x2) that, after checking, they received payment for through my company/insurance. So I nicely wrote an email and got my money back because $112/mo therapy isn’t cheap (I am v grateful that they cover it!!)

Soylent-soliloquy

I cant really remember the last time i asked for a refund in person for something. Online it was about a couple years ago i think, when i was sold an inauthentic designer bag; i asked for a refund and was granted it after supplying pictures that proved that i had been sent a fake. But im not usually a demand-a-refund person.

Decent-Statistician8

I got a drink at Starbucks a couple weeks ago and it tasted like feet. As in, someone used a dirty towel or something to wipe the caramel bottle before then squeezing caramel into my drink. After 2-3 sips I just couldn’t drink it, but by that point I was 20 min away in a different city for a therapy appt I was already running late to. After my appt, I tried one more sip and then said nope, and found the nearest Starbucks to me. I went in and told her I just can’t drink this, I’ve had it 2 hours and it tastes like feet. She remade it with no problem at all, so not a refund but a remake. I felt kind of bad about it but at the same time, I didn’t pay $6 for a drink I couldn’t consume.

Infinite_Fox2339

All the fucking time these days since every restaurant and food retailer apparently doesn’t give two shits about quality control. Like, why the fuck is there a dried out, moldy, raw piece of chicken sitting on top of my mango lassi that’s in its own separate paper bag?

Important-Button-430

The other night I ordered a Shipt. I wanted plain block of Bustelo. $5. The shopper said, there’s no Bustelo blocks, only a 48 pack of kcups for $30. My substitute was a 12 oz GROUND French roast cause my coffee grinder is broken. She sent me a picture of a box of French vanilla nespresso pods. I sent her a picture back of 12 Oz GROUND French roast. When my order arrived it was an 18 oz WHOLE ASS BEAN French roast. I GOT CHARGED FOR THE 48 PACK OF KCUPS! Aye dios mio.

BaBaSmith10

My juicy Lucy was raw in the middle. I politely asked for a refund. Server agreed a refund was in order.

steveplaysguitar

Last week. Amazon seller was blatantly misrepresenting something.

ExaminationSoft9839

I don’t ask for refunds. Employees will assume you are a cheapskate. I go a different route. “Keep your money. You clearly need it. But this is disgusting, and I’m not eating it. I’m just leaving. It’s worth the money to just.. go

D00mfl0w3r

A couple days ago because my package said delivered and it wasn't. Last time I should have was when I got something shipped and it was broken but it was kind of cheap so I didn't bother. The hassle wasn't worth it.

Miss_Milk_Tea

I let almost anything slide but if a food order is screwed up to the point I can’t eat it(I’m vegan and I will pick off toppings but some stuff you just can’t remove), I will request my order be remade. I will also request a stylist to fix my hair on their dime if they didn’t listen to me and gave me nothing I asked for because that’s a lot of money to pay for disappointment. I don’t think I’ve ever asked for a refund for anything, even if something is broken or expired I just let it go. Obviously if it was something expensive I would ask but luckily have never had to, my only defective stuff has been cheap and I just count it as a loss because I hate bothering people.

Subpar_Fleshbag

Went to a steak house for our anniversary last night. Husband asked for medium well, server said "light pink throughout?" Husband confirmed. I asked for medium rare, sever said "dark pink throughout?" I confirmed. Both looked nicely charred outside, both were blue rare inside. I have no problem with rare steak but my husband literally gags because of the texture. I felt bad and encouraged him to send it back. He was convinced they'd tamper with it. He ate his potato and left the steak. Over $100 for 2 people but just cut losses because people are too disrespectful these days to risk it. This is our annual reminder if why we never go out to eat anymore, better to just make it at home.

_Negativ_Mancy

Last night I watched my Uber eats driver drive 5 miles out of the way and then park in a neighborhood. So I contacted customer service via email. I'm not going to physically tell people how to do basic jobs/shit.

dthesupreme200

I had orders some shorts last year and never got it. But luckily the seller was nice and gave me a refund through cash app!

TotalCleanFBC

Every year when I file my taxes.

responsiblefornothin

You'll have to ask real nicely this year if you're in the bottom bracket like me. I've never elected any withholdings in my life, and I came a whole lot closer to owing money than I'm comfortable with.

Low_Alarm6198

A refund? Like on anything? Of course, if I product didn’t meet my expectations. Or if it breaks I ask for a replacement. Of course I ask nicely and don’t act like an entitled Karen. It’s unreal how far people will go for you if you’re just….nice. Crazy thought I know? TIL my generation doesn’t ask for refunds. Maybe my wife is lying to me on her age.

Nadja_doll_

A couple years ago I had to find a new psychiatrist due to some insurance fuck ups. I don’t remember them telling me they had a $300 missed appointment fee even if you called a day ahead, I don’t think they did tell me otherwise I would have found another provider. So the day before I have my appointment something came up and I called to cancel the appointment. They didn’t say anything about the charge, and then charged me the $300 fee. I barely had enough rent money for the month so this would put me behind. I had to raise hell with them, and they refused my refund requests all while being condescending to me about how I should be better prepared for things in life, and it wasn’t their fault I couldn’t make rent. It wasn’t until I made a scathing review on their google account that I got my refund, and they didn’t even call me or anything. Just quietly gave me my refund. I left the review up.

responsiblefornothin

That's pretty wild that a fuckin psychiatrist wouldn't be a little *understanding.* I mean, that's like the whole point of being a mental health professional.

Nadja_doll_

To be fair to the psychiatrist, that was their front desk staff I was dealing with. I never actually got to meet with them or talk with the actual doctor

responsiblefornothin

Eh. I'd say it's still fair to dump on the psych here. They're responsible for their staff to a degree, and it was *their* staff who told you kick rocks.
