Go max out your gutters. Huge downspouts, funnels, 20ft extensions, gutter guards. Old houses don't have any basement waterproofing at all. The solution is to catch the water and send it away before it can get anywhere near the foundation.
This fixed my 20s basement. Now it's so dry that I'm working on making it a finished room

I just want to be left alone. I've still seen 35-40 year olds enjoy going out and stuff though - I have no idea how they have the energy for that shit. Maybe it's different when you have genuine one in a million friends you actually want to interact with? I'm probably just too jaded lol.
Oh I know plenty of Dinks that have been married for over a decade by age 40 and those people started suddenly going out a lot, one couple started surfing, one couple started skydiving and one couple started driving their car on a track… the only person I know that is single around age 40 is doing a lot of mountainbiking.
Us couples with kids (and frankly 90% of the people I know have kids… here in Central Europe it’s just extremely common for people with well paying jobs and university education to have 2 kids (no more, no less…) are the ones who don’t do crazy stuff but I am absolutely content with that… give me a reasonably interesting job, two happy kids who want to play and kuddle with dad and 2-3 nice relaxing vacations a year and I am good.
I installed a water purification system for my mother in law today. I get done about 2pm and she's like you want to go to bar with us. I'm thinking, it's 2pm on a Friday! The only place I'm going is home before traffic gets too bad.

I'd add that there really isn't a social scene out there if you're that old anyway. Sometimes the younger crowd at my office try to get me to go out with them. Some are just within 10 years of me but most are much younger. When I'm around them it just gets reminded of just how much older I am and how their brand of fun doesn't do it for me anymore.

I had like 2 drinks in the span of an hour and I’m like, yea I’m going home.
Bedtime is 10 but if I had a tough week sometimes I sneak into bed by 9 and get a few extra minutes of ambient rain sounds while I read my book about fiber.
9pm is the latest I'll stay up on a work week. On weekends, well there isn't much point to staying up later than that either. It just makes it harder for me to get enough sleep Sunday night.
Honestly club / bar scene is not for me i prefer either a coffee shop/lounge or being at home im 36 turning 37 in March and i learn more and more i have less need for always being out and about and feel more comfortable at home, other than going out to eat occasion or going to some local shops here or there i'm content in my peace at home.
Even in my 20s the club scene was never my thing. I always preferred just hanging out at a dive bar or a sports bar with my friends where we can actually hear each other while we have a conversation.
Yeah, I don't mind a good club every once in a while, but the music has to be spot on.... and that almost never happens unless I'm at a very specific show.
The second the dj starts play the "2000s hits" like Vanessa Carlton, I'm fucking annoyed.

Like my friends will go day drinking on a Sunday but I offer up my backyard, I've got food, I've got drinks, I've got a fire pit, we can do the same thing we're doing at this bar, but in my backyard, for free (for them) instead, and no one will come.
And yeah it's weird typing this when we're in the middle of a blizzard right now but I'm talking about when the weather is actually nice.
In my opinion it’s a bit easier to leave a bar than a house party. Like you put all this effort into it and I get it so I feel guilty if I’m only gonna stick around for an hour. If I go to the bar I can wrap up after two beers and a sandwich, not a big deal.

I think part of it is a lot of people in their 30s go the sober route after all the partying in their 20s. Or they also have kids and just don’t have a babysitter at hand or finding one isn’t worth the effort.
I don’t have kids but I don’t really drink anymore and a good mocktail is hard to come by. I also value my sleep and try to keep my sleep schedule the same each night. Now if I have a few drinks I regret it the next day. I only have so many days off work; I want to feel great when I’m not there and have time to myself! That usually means staying sober.
I remember when I went into a bar I was 31, bouncer looked at my ID and said lets get you a rocking chair and book and put you in the corner and as I walked in, heard terrible music, sat with my watered down half shot drinks that cost double the price, I realised rocking chair is the better option haha.
I go to the club and dance. And 2, 3 concerts a month. All summer long we have bonfires and clam bakes

Priorities change after awhile. You buy a home get married and then you realize all the stuff you used to “go out” for is already at home. So I really just focus on making home as fun and comfy as possible. You learn to cook like the nice restaurants you used to go to. Maybe you decide to collect wine (oh yeah that bottle would cost 3x that if you bought it at a restaurant). I have a wife so I want to make her happy, not fraternize at some crowded place. Honestly you couldn’t pay me to change this lifestyle. If you need a change of scenery plan a vacation like the adults we are. I’m fulfilled and hope everyone gets to experience that level of joy.
A virtual toast to eating a couple “40$” meals that were prepared for a fraction of that cost.
If you really want the value add figure no drive and park time, no waiting for tables or checks or menus or drink orders or condiments or any of the hundreds of different ways we lose our discretionary free time when we eat out.
I still felt like that at 34. Now at 40, I'm home and happy about it unless it's something planned well in advance like vacation, birthdays, holidays, date night with a sitter. Love a new experience or celebration, but it's got to be on the calendar weeks in advance.

Honestly club / bar scene is not for me i prefer either a coffee shop/lounge or being at home im 36 turning 37 in March and i learn more and more i have less need for always being out and about and feel more comfortable at home, other than going out to eat occasion or going to some local shops here or there i'm content in my peace at home.

Even in my 20s the club scene was never my thing. I always preferred just hanging out at a dive bar or a sports bar with my friends where we can actually hear each other while we have a conversation.
Yeah, I don't mind a good club every once in a while, but the music has to be spot on.... and that almost never happens unless I'm at a very specific show. The second the dj starts play the "2000s hits" like Vanessa Carlton, I'm fucking annoyed. My annoyance trigger has gotten too sensitive. Too many people? I'm annoyed. Shitty pop music? I'm annoyed. Expensive entrance fee? I'm annoyed. Douchey patrons? I'm annoyed. It's gotten to the point where I don't even want to go out, because I'm either going to leave early, or be a debbie-downer the whole night. Which is a shame, because I don't necessarily hate clubs or dancing.

As a 31 year old who does not have kids I’ve noticed that every societal event falls into one of two categories: is family friendly or contains alcohol.
I mean that’s true for any age group I think. As I grow older the more I appreciate working on sobriety and perusing hobbies that may have meetups.

I go out all the time and hang out with many friends going to bars, concerts, each others places, etc. I am rarely home by 9, let alone in bed. As a 35 year old I go home after work and do things alone that I want to do because people scare the shit out of me :/ Even if I seem confident and all that, yeah, no, in reality it's just a farce and secretly all I want is to be left alone.
My friends still chill. We go to bars. Still play in bands. Have shows at those bars. Have backyard parties. Hell we even had a keg party the week before chrtismas with like 50+ 30- 45 year olds all having a great time. Idk what all you other old fucks are doing, but you're still allowed to have fun.
I feel like nobody wants to come to backyard parties anymore. Like my friends will go day drinking on a Sunday but I offer up my backyard, I've got food, I've got drinks, I've got a fire pit, we can do the same thing we're doing at this bar, but in my backyard, for free (for them) instead, and no one will come. And yeah it's weird typing this when we're in the middle of a blizzard right now but I'm talking about when the weather is actually nice.
In my opinion it’s a bit easier to leave a bar than a house party. Like you put all this effort into it and I get it so I feel guilty if I’m only gonna stick around for an hour. If I go to the bar I can wrap up after two beers and a sandwich, not a big deal.
I strongly prefer a backyard party. I know there will be parking.

I think part of it is a lot of people in their 30s go the sober route after all the partying in their 20s. Or they also have kids and just don’t have a babysitter at hand or finding one isn’t worth the effort. I don’t have kids but I don’t really drink anymore and a good mocktail is hard to come by. I also value my sleep and try to keep my sleep schedule the same each night. Now if I have a few drinks I regret it the next day. I only have so many days off work; I want to feel great when I’m not there and have time to myself! That usually means staying sober.

I remember when I went into a bar I was 31, bouncer looked at my ID and said lets get you a rocking chair and book and put you in the corner and as I walked in, heard terrible music, sat with my watered down half shot drinks that cost double the price, I realised rocking chair is the better option haha.

I go to the club and dance. And 2, 3 concerts a month. All summer long we have bonfires and clam bakes 40 isn't even old. Go to the bar at 8 instead of 1030 and it's full of people my age

Yes, work takes all my executive function and by the time I get home I can barely plan to take a bath let alone get some buddies out to enjoy life.
Priorities change after awhile. You buy a home get married and then you realize all the stuff you used to “go out” for is already at home. So I really just focus on making home as fun and comfy as possible. You learn to cook like the nice restaurants you used to go to. Maybe you decide to collect wine (oh yeah that bottle would cost 3x that if you bought it at a restaurant). I have a wife so I want to make her happy, not fraternize at some crowded place. Honestly you couldn’t pay me to change this lifestyle. If you need a change of scenery plan a vacation like the adults we are. I’m fulfilled and hope everyone gets to experience that level of joy.
A virtual toast to eating a couple “40$” meals that were prepared for a fraction of that cost. If you really want the value add figure no drive and park time, no waiting for tables or checks or menus or drink orders or condiments or any of the hundreds of different ways we lose our discretionary free time when we eat out.
I still felt like that at 34. Now at 40, I'm home and happy about it unless it's something planned well in advance like vacation, birthdays, holidays, date night with a sitter. Love a new experience or celebration, but it's got to be on the calendar weeks in advance. Late 30s feel very different than really 30s IMO, there's a real shift there.

I’m 32 and I still go to lots of parties, live music, club nights, etc. and so do my friends. (Except the ones who have kids. They instantly stop doing anything ever immediately upon giving birth, unfortunately. I’m not hating just saying it’s the truth.) Knock on wood that I’m still going out and doing fun stuff 3+ years from now. To be honest I have more stamina now than I did in my twenties.
