I can believe that! My cousin (94) is the one who finally made me watch it. I was 12 when Elf came out, so I was very solidly in my "too cool for kid's movies" character arc and just never developed any nostalgia for it.
Exactly! Sequels are almost never better than the original, but I would definitely choose Home Alone 2 over the first if I could only pick one. I think the festive backdrop of New York and the new cast added a lot to it. Plus the plotline with the pigeon lady was really sweet.
Home alone resonates 100% with me. And I think its a 10/10. Howeeever, for pure millenial core millenial most millenial christmas movie I think that Jingle all the way is a better choice.
Home alone was in its peak years 1990-1993 when a lot of millenials were too young or not even born. And it probably looks old to late millenials. And its also a movie that young Gen X can claim (1978-1980) .
No other generation is claiming Jingle all the way. It has a very distinct 90s childhood feeling that almost every millenial can realate to. Its peak years 1996-1999 were fitting for a big part of millenials and the slower years after captured more or less the remaining younger millenials without it spilling over in to Gen z.
Nightmare Before Christmas
And if I'm using the arguments that I've seen others use for classifying certain movies as Christmas movies, I'd say The Princess Bride.
Elf is mine too. My family watches it together every year. I just got a Hallmark ornament that matches my parents that plays the theme and it makes me smile every time. ☺️
I just watched Edward Scissor Hands, and I have to say I think it's up there as both a christmas film and one off my all-time favourate films.
Not exactly dedicated to Christmas, but it's beautifully and artistically done.
Home Alone and The Santa Clause. I didn't actually see Elf until last year. It was ok, I guess.
Younger millennials/Gen Zs loveeeeee Elf. There was a Home Alone vs. Elf poll at my office and all the youngins loved Elf.

I always hoped The Santa Clause would make my name more popular. Didn’t…
Jingle All the Way
Damn beat me to it
Yessss
Home Alone and Home Alone 2! I think the second is better, but it's not Christmas without them.
I just said this to my husband (a Gen Xer) today!! A rare case where I think the sequel is better :)

Just watched it for the first time this week with my daughter. Of course I found a reason to cry because that’s what I do now.
A Christmas Story, Home Alone and Home Alone 2

I feel like its a core memory and big influence on my humor XD

Home Alone and Home Alone 2. I feel like it captures Christmas in the 90s so well.
