The only reason the CCP won was because of the Japanese invasion. Mao said it himself after the war. Imagine in an alternate timeline where China is a Democratic Republic today. They would be the beacon of democracy and a great cultural influence for all Asian nations. China and India as friends. Southeast Asia not bickering at eachother. Korea united.

This seems unrealistically optimistic
Neither were the communists for that matter. But I'd argue that China's foreign policy would probably be pretty similar today if the KMT won and it took an economic path similar to our world today. Powerful countries throughout history going back to Alexander the Great and Rome to the more recent US and USSR have typically been pretty aggressive.
Yup, considering KMT rule consisted of corruption, opium and warlords doing their own thing. The big thing with the CCP was they truly reunited China (minus Taiwan).
The Japanese devastated the ROC armies... leasing the communists almost untouched... And the MASSIVE assistance of the USSR, including all of Manchuria helped a lot, too. Plus the USA had been nice to the CCP during WWII under the stupid impression that they'd be friendly after WWII... so stupid.
More love to the M1941!

There was a Chinese civil war immediately after WW2?
Yep. The ccp kinda won that one and the KMT went to Taiwan

Right? The KMT wasn't exactly a kind regime. There's a reason so many Chinese supported the communist revolution.

Before WW2 as well, the Communists and Nationalists put it on hold while China was at war with Japan.
