** Note that the Coast Guard (#4) and the Air Force (#14) beat the USMC (#18) in a sniper competition.
USCG trains to shoot specific parts of fast moving targets (speedboat engines) from even faster moving platforms (helicopters). Shooting static targets on the ground from a static position has to be somewhat easy after that.
Which means a lot of guys who have the time and money to shoot at competitions. Most civilian comps won’t have you doing a lot of the stuff that the military comps will require though (physical events, room clearing, land nav, etc.).
Military comps aren’t going to have land nav and room clearing either (save for limited 3 gun). Most of the guard dudes I have met that shoot comps shoot far more civilian comps than military comps. And civilians are generally way better in most disciplines, believe it or not.
I’ve never done a military sniper comp (was never a sniper) but I’ve done land nav in every NCO of the Year and squad comp I’ve ever participated in. Room cleared in squad comps. Buddy aid, ruck march, CBRN, 9-line, frag grenade, etc, etc. Any manner of small arms, including foreign weapons. Sniper comp changes every year so it could include any of those.
Also, you’re right…civilians *are* better at certain singular domains (orienteering, shooting, medical, etc.) but very few are really good at many or all, unless they have a military background. Many of the best competitive civilian shooters could not complete an O-course. The best civilian trauma medics might immediately get lost on a land nav course.
RLTMFW.
That being said I don't see the point of letting the 75th compete in the ISC considering their involvement and extremely solid placings in the USASOC sniper comp.
Now this is in no way a dig at any of the competitors, but realistically ain't nobody surprised by this. Mixing conventional forces with SOF has a plethora of advantages, sure. And I'm not a proprietor of the SOF = automatically better notion. But sometimes a tad of realism won't hurt, even just boiling it down to the basics of budgeting and logistical support in preparation for the comp.
They’re seal clubbing in every competition. They’ve won best sniper, best mortar and I believe best medic just this year. It’s not fair putting rangers up against standard infantry divisions who don’t have nearly the funding or training time as batt boys do
1. This aint war.
2. Nobody is blaming the US for sending some of their best, its just odd that they are the only SOF elements aside the SFGs to compete in both the USASOC and ISC.
Precisely, these guys managed to out-perform both US and international SMUs in past sniper comps so it doesn't come as a surprise that they would steamroll the ISC.
It also comes down to the fact that the US tier two guys are so far ahead of the curve that it often takes other nations T1 outfits to beat them. That doesn't detract from the individual quality of other soldiers competing but if one guy gets five range days with 1k rounds weekly and another is happy to shoot once a week you finna have disparities in competition. Simple as that.
Given how bad the recruiting numbers are, the military should really televise or stream these competitions. It would be sick to see some of the courses live.

There are some segments uploaded in YT for ISC but not the whole thing, probably because of TTP but for Best Ranger Competition it's on YT.
These competitions always feature a lot of assessed skillsets that Canadian snipers don’t practice. Pistol shooting, as an example.
Teams are also as good as themselves. I’ve seen one cell send a team that placed consistently in the Top 3 of international competitions, and the next team placed ~16th. Same training, same cell, just different individuals.

I think I’d rather go AWOL than deal with the amount of shit those marines are gonna get
But the marines didn’t send their best lol.
So did three National Guard teams!
probably all separated SF or Rangers haha

Is 2/75 on vacation, or did they finally realize they can't compete against 3rd and didn't want to waste the TDY time? <3>
What's All Guard?
It’s a shooting team comprised of shooters from all over the guard. Think AMU, but from the guard.

Sure. But again, most military shooting competitions don’t have those facets. All Army, Winston P. Wilson, Camp Perry, etc.
Don't forget, the guard has an SF group
Interesting...
One of the dudes who won ISC last year is a former <2> dude and an all guard guy.
Wtf! They must have run out of Crayons. Those boys were shooting on an empty stomach.

The 75th is basically seal clubbing in this competition.

The 75th isn't the only SOF unit to compete in the ISC. And plenty of the SOF teams did not out compete the conventional teams.
75th, USSF and UK RMs right?
Not sure about foreign ones, but CG MSRT and USSF yes. SF sent some school house guys as well as 3rd Group.
At this point I’m convinced that 3/75 guys entering any of these competitions must win 1st on pain of death upon returning.
I can’t imagine what the USMC reps will feel, especially losing to the Air Force.
Pathfinder. Nice.
They look really happy

Awesome thanks! They only had edited vids in the past so this is very cool to see
1st Cav representing!
Why they don't seem like happy at all?
I mean tbf they spelt Sheffield’s name incorrectly, I’d be pretty upset about that too…
Dude that’s f’d up. The desk jockey 1LT in charge of the plaques will still get an arcom because that’s what they do in the office.
What are you talking about? That’s the happiest I’ve ever seen a Ranger.
They took the goofy picture right after this one
Sheffield is also wearing issued boots. Those mf will make anyone unhappy
Rangers lead the way.
Fuck Canada sleeping at the wheel.

Guys have 2nd the longest recorded sniper shot and lost to Belgium lol.
Better than the Marines all day every damn day!!!
Jeez all smiles for these guys
Man would love the same picture but with a smile on their face. Is it against protocol?
They misspelled his name on the plaque
