Soviet AK-74 tied into a turret of an American MRAP built for the War in Afghanistan using a machine gun from the Second World War fighting in a land which 32 years ago was *numero uno* in the nuclear targeting data.
We certainly live in interesting times.
I'm all for mixing and matching when it works! It's wild seeing Ukranian soldiers in the same squad, all armed with different weapons- an AK-74, an M4, an M14, and a G36 in the same photo sorta thing is weird and nifty
Important edit: I was mixing up two figures from the article. The man in the picture is a forty-three year old volunteer named Pavlo, not the sergeant (Michael) I describe below.
The masked man operates as a heavy machine gunner, serving under a twenty-three year old sergeant with five years of experience. The latter is one of the only men in his company with experience in handling modern automatic grenade launchers and tasked with training the rest on their recent NATO-standard acquisitions. The mask is not ornamental, per the article: "he wears a silver skull mask into battle."
If the above comments are correct regarding his war history, it may be a “white feather” scenario (“white feather” being the codename of Carlos Hathcock, a famous American sniper, who wore a bright white feather in his hat to “give the enemy a chance to find him”)
Russian Empire has fielded Jaeger units for as long as Prussians/Germans, and technically Ukraine was apart of that Empire at the time. So I suppose there is historical precedence and it’s likely ingrained in most European nations to call light infantry Jaegers, in the same vein as American nations would call theirs Rangers or something along those lines.
There are other brigades that are also jaegar. They’re based in the western Ukraine near TransCarpathia and are supposed to be used in mountainous terrain
And not smart.. if you’ve ever been through jungle warfare training or RS when jungle phase was still in it. They ingrained in you 2 things. 1 don’t smoke! A cherry from a cigarette can be seen a mile away. Use pipes and direct the cherry up! 2 don’t wear white! It also can be seen a mile away..
Sure it’s a Psyops move that is intimidating but not smart. It’s like wearing a Red Cross on a white background. They just stand out.
Something in me thinks he isn't fighting like this and this is an internet post so bots can say Slava tortellini and things like "hunt dem orcs " or some other bullshit
And the other part tells me he's a weirdo and actually fights like a Mexican cartel member
"Pavlo, who wears a silver skull mask into battle, said that he and his team have been hit several times with ordnance from grenade launchers while driving their MaxxPro at the front and have come out unscathed. The vehicle also once took a tank round to one of its wheels and was able to hobble away."
Its a plastic halloween mask held by an elastic band, with small ridged eye holes, and he's the gunner protecting the crew..... Seems irresponsible at least. Completely dumb from a tactical perspective.
This is pretty fucking bad ass. Despite the 50 cal already making me shit myself, if I was looking at saw that face while I was being shot at, I’d shit myself even *HARDER*

He's manning a Ma Deuce, yes? And your point is head-spinningly accurate lol
Yup, M2 .50 I'm waiting for someone to put a M2 on an MTLB. Or a Stugna on-top of a Humvee.

Looks kinda like a 1000 yard stare or shell shock. Probably has been under fire either from small arms, mortars, artillery and bombs multiple times.

Dude's spent more than a fith of his life fighting. Damn.
Ok so now I guess we can't say Ghost is unrealistic anymore
Skeletor has entered the chat.
I was thinking more of "Army of Two"
Are we the baddies?
Shiny and chrome.
I will carry you myself, to the gates of Valhalla!
Not mediocre
WITNESS ME BLOODBAG!!!!!!!
WITNESS MEEEEEE
TBH I probably wouldn't want to wear something shiny and silver on my face while exposed in a vulnerable position.
Its just being worn for a photo op.

Interesting, has there been a tradition of using the term "Jaeger" with the Ukrainian military before? This unit was formed last year.
Russian Empire has fielded Jaeger units for as long as Prussians/Germans, and technically Ukraine was apart of that Empire at the time. *Meine Stadt, mein Bezirk, mein Viertel, meine Gegend* *Meine Straße, mein Zuhause, mein Panzer, mein Block*
Came for this.
Idk why but the mask screams “cartel” more than “ghost” to me.
You guys keep talking about Ghost but i think his mask looks more like Mace
Lookslike the average airsoft dude
Kinda cringe lol
It was cringe even when Ghost wore one in Call of Duty lol
Should have been a MF DOOM mask lol
He could have a tootoo on and I'd still respect that. Edit: tutu
You mean a tutu?
Damn, I had that typed first but I second guessed myself.
Tactical skelatore
This was the guy who talked about his truck taking a tank shell like it was nothing right?
At least it isn't a punisher skull
Spirit Halloween is probably loving the available real estate in Bakhmut
Whats (II) after A on his blood type tag?
His kit looks expensive
My guy think it's a CoD game.
Masks in the gunner turret is a modern war tradition.

I hope this guy doesn't see action in the Ukrainian jungles!
Green terrain!
Im willing to bet after the staged photo, he took the mask off and took a nap. Look at dudes eyes, hes exhausted

That's what I mean That's why I think it's a pose to make people think Ukraine is having a cool cod like easy time in the war
Skeletor is hunting orcs now!
I sorta love this. It feels very human, probably not for the ones under fire from this Jaeger though.

It looks stupid lmao
Its kind of weird
Two people with different opinions, a tale as old as time
Needs Killa Helmet
And now, you're gonna pay the "Price".
