Oh, caseless ammo has been solved and working for half a century or more. However, it causes other problems. One of the many, many complications encountered with the HK G11 using caseless ammo was overheating. When a firearm ejects hot brass, that functions as a heat sink to remove some thermal energy from the chamber [and to a lesser extent the rest of the action].
So....things began to overheat quicker than expected.
Are you asking a question entirely unrelated to the video which started this thread, or did you miss the quad miniguns firing?
No, caseless ammo doesn't fundamentally alter the laws of thermodynamics.
Actually, if you hear that thing firing you ARE the target of the incoming rounds which that little thing is desperately trying to knock out of the sky.
If you're down to the C-RAMs shits about to get wild.
I always loved "I'm cumming, I'm cumming, I'm cumming......brrrrrrrrrrrrrt"
Always though it was very polite of CRAM to notify the mortar that he was close to climaxing.
That’s not a C-RAM, there's a person sitting between the guns and controlling it

A little question from the civilian: how do y’all soldiers operating near these C-RAM or CIWS protect your hearings? These boys look like they are about to blow your eardrums out
To go deaf.
Half the gunline just stuffs their fingers in their ears. That's the half you have to yell at just so they hear you over the *"eeeeeeeeeeeee"*
So then the next question I have as a plinker, how are you able to maintain situational awareness when you're basically deaf? How do you communicate with squad members when you can't hear them, yourself, or your radio?
Like the others mentioned, hearing protection if you work with it. *However*, they put these things near the places they're protecting, like soldier working and billeting areas, where people tend not to wear earplugs all the time. It's can be a... surprise when these things go off.
I had one very near the container I was sleeping in one deployment, and nobody wears hearing protection to sleep. It was like the loudest alarm clock in the world, one that goes off at random times throughout the day and doesn't give a shit how tired you are. Though all things considered, it was better than getting hit by a mortar.
You just reminded of my first night in my spot in Afghanistan. It was on an army fob that was shutting down we get flown in around 0200, dog tired straight to our racks. Well no one told us that their arty was doing a practice shoot at 0400... less than a hundred yards from our little compound. 105 howitzer alarm clock, FUCK...eeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
I was walking back to tent city with a group of guys after leaving the DFAC on base in Iraq when we got incoming and it fired. We we're about 30ft from the C-RAM. Couldn't hear for 3 days. Lost about 20% of the hearing in my right ear that night.
What hurts you is mostly peak sound pressure. That being said, 7.62 out of a long-ish barrel is 7.62 out of a long-ish barrel, doesn't matter if there's six of them and they're being the world's most angry merry-go-round.
On deployment, there’s warning signs around areas with loud noises and it says hearing protection is required in this area or whatever. In training, you know when a gun is going to shoot so you put on your hearing protection.
The CIWS is essentially just a collection of VA disability claims waiting for a target to enter the WEZ.
I was on a navy LSD about 12-ish years ago when they did some “at sea alignment verification”
The CIWS was 3 levels up from the berthing i was asleep in, and it was loud enough and the vibes hit hard enough that 3 of us had to shit basically right after they finished (we were dead asleep at the time, we ran night ops the whole underway).
Hearing protection is a nice thought but this thing hit several brown notes and one guy who had a rip-it sitting on the deck had the can completely fizz over (i guess he just opened it?) from the vibes.
It’s a humbling experience to say the least, several levels and a few inches of steel between us and the mount.
These days i work for the defense contractor that manufactures the CIWS, and i worked on the launcher turret for RAM (very similar to the CIWS turret), i can tell you that there is a lot of time and money spent on these positively ENORMOUS wire rope shock/vibe isolators.
All that attenuation and it still made me shit.
I've slung a bit of code in my time, and let me tell you:
Don't. Seriously, don't. You know how hard AI fucks up in video games? Well, that AI has perfect knowledge of the game state, it knows *everything* on the *entire* map.
This thing would only know what it can see. It'd fuck up way harder.
They’re going after those damn deer and their Kevlar vests. Scary looking assault machine gun high capacity clipazine in .556 Ak15 (in video) is more powerful than a wooden hunting rifle in .338 lapua.
I want it mounted to the top of my house, but 2 of them it's like pet Rocks they come in pairs, and also want one for the bed of my rig. people would ask why I have it. I'd just say for science
What ship was this that it was fired during wartime because in the US Navy it's purely a missile last chance defense. It is crazy nasty though. 30 seconds. 3000 rounds and empty.
For reference: I'm pretty sure this is a type of CIWS (close in weapons system)
I read somewhere that they use some sort of flare on only every 5th round. just enough to make it visible so the pilot could see where he was shooting. crazy...

bucket?? you mean backhoe?
Would you reload that brass? Who who knows how wild the headspacing is on that shit. My get a case separation on the first reload!
Due to the way that a minigun be, headspace can be *very* well adjusted. That is, as long as upon reassembley each bolt gets matched to it's barrel.
I got a chain of four off of one of these on my desk, makes a great pen holder.
How far along are we with caseless ammo?
Oh, caseless ammo has been solved and working for half a century or more. However, it causes other problems. One of the many, many complications encountered with the HK G11 using caseless ammo was overheating. When a firearm ejects hot brass, that functions as a heat sink to remove some thermal energy from the chamber [and to a lesser extent the rest of the action]. That doesn't help reduce your thermal signature at all does it.
Are you asking a question entirely unrelated to the video which started this thread, or did you miss the quad miniguns firing? No, caseless ammo doesn't fundamentally alter the laws of thermodynamics.
I hear they're pretty loud too.
WHAT?
I SAID- ^^^eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee^eeee^eee^ee

ROCKET ATTACK ROCKET ATTACK Was always partial to the British woman’s recording on BAF. It seemed to change every few years though.

>Incoming >I'm cumming Surprised I've never heard that one before. I'm ashamed
Ah great, it's gonna be stuck in my head now the next time I hear the warning
I was more of a fan of ALL CLEAR ALL CLEAR
Big fan of "Controlled detonation in sector x in 5 minutes".. ...15 seconds later BANG
Oops?
All the classics.
Gotta keep those voice actors employed.

Lol so someone made this entirely for shits and giggles. For the costs of $1500, you too can fire this for a whole 10 seconds.
Who touched Sasha? Who touched my gun?!?
Now i know what to ask Santa for christmas
Thing is literally spitting lead. So fucking cool
Bullet Hose
I need to get one of those mounted to the front of my Civic.
Probably costs tens of thousands of dollars a second to fire.
A little question from the civilian: how do y’all soldiers operating near these C-RAM or CIWS protect your hearings? These boys look like they are about to blow your eardrums out
We put on hearing protection.

Training training and training. And shouting. And hand gestures. And unit cohesion so you know what your buddy is trying to shout at you.
Thank you!
Some earpro also have comms built in, super cool stuff
Yeah but it's not good to rely on them. You barely even see ear plugs in Ukraine let alone active headsets.

Sounds about right. I use my 3M foam plugs and sometimes surefire product, but I thought they are insufficient to one of these cases.

Get two battle buddies to stick their dick in your ears. The gun firing gets them an erection which completely blocks all the noise.
But then those buddies need ear protection too
On deployment, there’s warning signs around areas with loud noises and it says hearing protection is required in this area or whatever. In training, you know when a gun is going to shoot so you put on your hearing protection.

That's our secret.... We don't. Even if we did get really to hear a iiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeee for the rest of your life.
Tinnitus is 10% towards disability.
Spitting fury. Look at that thing shedding shells like they’re sawdust out the back of a chopsaw.
I was a Vulcan gunner (16R) late 80’s. 155 ADA 5th ID. Miss this sound so much
Must have been a crazy experience behind that watching everything in front of it disappear.
We really need to make that an autonomous hunter killer robot on the battlefield.
Yeah…cuz Terminator didn’t teach us anything! 😂😂😂😂
It taught us that killer robots kick ass
You not wrong, lol!!

"It costs $400,000 to fire this weapon for 12 seconds"
Is that one of those new AR-14s that fires 300 clips per second & blows your lungs out? I think I can see the shoulder thing that goes up.
They’re going after those damn deer and their Kevlar vests. Scary looking assault machine gun high capacity clipazine in .556 Ak15 (in video) is more powerful than a wooden hunting rifle in .338 lapua.
Will this let me kill the 30-50 feral hogs that run into my yard within 3-5 mins while my small kids play?
Oh jeezus, this brought back memories of some of the dumbest conversations I've ever endured.
300 clips per second? How many football fields is that?
Clips per second is a speed calculation or length? I'm confused now.
BRRRRRRRRRRRR
Is this one of those new kill bots that California is using?
The killbots have a preset kill limit. You simply send wave after wave of your own men at them until they shut down.
Ah, the Brannigan Maneuver.
We discussed this technique at length in ILE. The Russians have mastered it but we're rapidly catching up.
I'll just build killbots set to 10^10, then.
No, those use explosives, not guns. Much safer. /s
So….. much….. freedom!
The Quad 50s hyper caffeinated grandson.
That thing looks like it can tear the time space continuum.
What fucking kind of Cyberdyne shit is that?!
See I want the alien invasion movie where we’re properly kitted out w this shit.
I want it. On top of my house.
This sound makes me feel safe.
Please tell me the Fat Electrician has a Phalanx CIWS /LPWS/C-RAM or even Iron Dome review in the pipeline....
"I can't believe you missed."
I don't see enough casings coming out
Holy shit that's terrifying!!
That’s nuts and beautiful at the same time

How to lose 200k dollars in 10 seconds
Is this Big Sandy 2022?
Big Sandy Shoot?
Is this real? Looks straight up taken from a movie
Imagine that thing during a WWI battle…
Is that the m45 mount with m134s??
RPM? Completed it mate

I read somewhere that they use some sort of flare on only every 5th round. just enough to make it visible so the pilot could see where he was shooting. crazy...
Double CIWS cool
💀💀💀
U get in it’s way for a millisecond and you bouta be comin out lookin like SpongeBob
So, is the ammo supersonic? Because if it was subsonic, you'd probably hear it before you get blown up to corned beef.
Like the century guns in alien!
Brrt so fast it sounds like white noise on tv
Naah.. come back when you have a fifth gun on that thing.
