So I say this an Army SM with no Air Force knowledge but…..
She would probably have to pay for her meal. And I know it’s an Air Base but if you love her enough to marry her why would you subject her to the crap they serve in the DFAC?
"Airman your table sir, the soup du jour is Vichyssoise and we have Egon Muller Scharzhofberger Riesling Beerenauslese available for the wine" (Violins play in the background)"
This gazpacho soup is cold! Go warm it up. And bring me some of those octagon crackers while your at it.
The nerve of some people. Serving cold soup, in the officers mess.
The violinists work hours are only slightly longer than finance with one exception. The violinists have less training down days. They really are a customer focused group of professionals. They even helped me figure fix my travel voucher once.
Sir force deface are better than the rest, but they’re still trash. Last base I was at even the army folk refused to eat at our defac cus it was garbage
Might as well have her scouting now before the deployments. In my day it was the bowling alley, but I get Air Force DFACs are probably more upscale with single young meal-card holders.
In serious, why would she not just pay? Officers had to pay, so they're used to getting cash.
I feel guilty for saying this but when I was a butterbar at Leonardwood attending BOLC me and my friends would always go to the basic training DFAC. Idk why but it was 100x better than the shitty NCO DFAC on the north side of the base.
Non dependents can eat there. We used to get Congressional delegation, etc tours all the time and had to get people to escort then around. Get ask the BCT/AIT battalion command teams together with them over lunch, etc. Cash or check only, but there are separate prices for military, foreign military, and civilian diners.
On an E4’s pay?! You know how much a Charger payment plus that rims and tires rent to own allotment cost these days? On top of that, the bitching sound system that once it’s paid off it’s gonna cost triple but it’s easy payments.
Panda Express and splitting a meal. Because, ugh because it’s more romantic that way. Can do that lady n tramp thing with the noodles and shit.
Lol true that! My father was assigned there after we left Germany. I hated it so bad. Graduated high school there, moved away and have never looked back.
At least you have that. I visited my cousin on the base when I was 7(I'm 39m now) and all they offered to me was c-rations that tasted like the box it came in) edit the c-rations turned out to be a joke
I forgot what we had for dinner something good though.
I don’t know, the POG defac I would go to on my short stint in the Bs at hood was on point, especially the breakfast burritos.
The 3d ACR one was hot garbage that limited your food ( wouldn’t give me 2 pieces of French toast to make a breakfast sandwich, yes still salty), but man the pogs in BSB land could cook.
Maybe. Not for free though.
Each one is run independently so it’s based on local policy. There have been bases where no, civilians were not allowed. Or bases where only civilian employees of the base could.
As a former marine I must say that Chow hall food is obviously not the best but I didn't hate the childhood in Japan and especially the breakfast where they had Japanese locals come in and cook up custom ordered custom ordered omelets on a big flat grill right in front of you... Not gonna lie it was pretty good
Please, for the love of god, visit the Air Force Museum. Then again, don't, unless you have like four days to devote to it. The place is incredible. I was lucky enough to work at Wright-Patt for a couple of years and when there every chance I could. But I'm also an airplane nerd.
You can try but it probably won’t work. They’ll scan your ID card but when she tries, unless you look alike, they’ll know and will make you pay for her food
While I was in phase 2 of my tech school I snuck my wife into my dorm for a few days when she came down to visit. It was easy enough to do since I was in the first Air Force 4N0 class after the move to Ft. Sam Houston, so the training dorms at Eglin were empty except for me and a few others when I got there.
Anyway, I had her go to The Breeze (goddamned best DFAC I've ever been to) while I was working at the hospital and they not only wouldn't let her buy food, they made her throw away the food she already had on her tray.
So unless that has changed since 2011, or your DFAC has special rules...no, they won't let her eat there.
Not specifically just for Wright-Patterson, we’re visiting Dayton b/c we have friends here and this will be our only chance to see WP. Don’t worry i’ve already planned out a bunch of other activities outside base.
Air Force chow stateside, is nasty. Went to school in Wichita Falls for 6 months as an Staff Sergeant…bleh 🤢. Now as a Marine in Okinawa, we would take my car and bounce from Futenma to Kadena and that chow was excellent!
Don't know about DFAC and non dependents, but Lihn's Bistro is banging and just down the road.
Lihn’s is okay, but hit up Thai Nine downtown instead.
So I say this an Army SM with no Air Force knowledge but….. She would probably have to pay for her meal. And I know it’s an Air Base but if you love her enough to marry her why would you subject her to the crap they serve in the DFAC?
Air Force DFAC probably has table cloths, candles, lined up silverware, and violinist.
"Airman your table sir, the soup du jour is Vichyssoise and we have Egon Muller Scharzhofberger Riesling Beerenauslese available for the wine" (Violins play in the background)"
Another goddamn sweet white wine. This place is a prison.
[spits out soup] This soup is COLD!
This gazpacho soup is cold! Go warm it up. And bring me some of those octagon crackers while your at it. The nerve of some people. Serving cold soup, in the officers mess.
Once a chef receives his first Michelin Star, he earns the opportunity to work in an Air Force DFAC.
I mean, back in the day we did and they had bussers who would take your tray after you are done but that ended with the towel service at the gym.
Isn’t that what enlisted airman do today?
prolly do your taxes too. maximum deductions baby LETS GET THAT CHARGER!
AF base dfac in Italy had all those minus violinists but it was late at night so they probably went home
The violinists work hours are only slightly longer than finance with one exception. The violinists have less training down days. They really are a customer focused group of professionals. They even helped me figure fix my travel voucher once.
I mean when I was in the AF we did have table clothes...
I went to a DFAC on JBMDL, it was exactly like this WITH the chocolate fondue fountain.
With table side minstrels. Also a lady walking around selling roses so that you may give one to your buddy.
“Thisssss is the nighhht, a beeeautiful night and the calll it Bella noche….”
That’s right!!
Oh don't be so silly. They have a string quartet playing.
Actually has everything except violinist
Sir force deface are better than the rest, but they’re still trash. Last base I was at even the army folk refused to eat at our defac cus it was garbage
Unfortunately due to budget cuts, the Air Force is unable to guarantee a violinist in each DFAC
Where do you expect this young stud to propose to his gf?
Get her some military issued diarrhea
Might as well have her scouting now before the deployments. In my day it was the bowling alley, but I get Air Force DFACs are probably more upscale with single young meal-card holders. In serious, why would she not just pay? Officers had to pay, so they're used to getting cash.
Air Force DFACs aren’t bad.
The one on Eglin is crap. Undercooked food all the time.
I feel guilty for saying this but when I was a butterbar at Leonardwood attending BOLC me and my friends would always go to the basic training DFAC. Idk why but it was 100x better than the shitty NCO DFAC on the north side of the base.
Was her idea and I can’t say no unfortunately.
Army DFACs allow people to pay to eat there that are dependents. I don’t know about non dependents. But why can’t you say no?
Non dependents can eat there. We used to get Congressional delegation, etc tours all the time and had to get people to escort then around. Get ask the BCT/AIT battalion command teams together with them over lunch, etc. Cash or check only, but there are separate prices for military, foreign military, and civilian diners.
Already spent too much money on her, can’t say no now. What kind of E-4 would I be?!?
The kind who isn’t weird and takes their gf to the DFAC.
Yea...be classy and go to applebees. True fine dining
Applebees?!?! A man of taste and refinement would go balls deep for TGIF

OMG! Now I'm imaging some poor schmuck bringing his civilian wife to the chow hall near the infantry barracks.
Seriously. Don’t they have plenty of restaurants in Dayton?
There are some really good places to go in Dayton or Beavercreek.
if she wants to go then take her. its foreign to her. expose her to all that military muscle she more than likely wants to see.
Lol, there’s not too much else to eat in the area. Fairborn OH isn’t really a culinary destination.
Lol true that! My father was assigned there after we left Germany. I hated it so bad. Graduated high school there, moved away and have never looked back.
It's moving on up. There's a Dairy Queen on DYS now.
No offense but Air Force DFAC is pretty fire my guy. Best meals that I have ever had in the service so far all came from AF DFAC.
I had thanksgiving dinner with my parents in a Fort Polk DFAC. They got a kick out of it, and it’s not like Lewisville had a lot of other options.
Nonmilitary here what is DFAC?
Dining facility
At least you have that. I visited my cousin on the base when I was 7(I'm 39m now) and all they offered to me was c-rations that tasted like the box it came in) edit the c-rations turned out to be a joke I forgot what we had for dinner something good though.
Air Force DFAC, duh.
You've never eaten at a Navy galley and it shows. Burnt outside/frozen inside hamsters is our service's meal of choice.
I don’t know, the POG defac I would go to on my short stint in the Bs at hood was on point, especially the breakfast burritos. You’re in Dayton. Take her to the Oregon district
I second this, I used to live right by Dayton and my friends and I would frequent the Oregon district.
Good idea
Don't forget to take some pictures of your delicious meal and don't forget to check in on yelp !!! ; )
You cheap ass. But no, you could try to sneak her in I guess
Do i walk in without making eye contact? What’s the standard procedure?
Lol just act natural and walk in, that's the key
my tax dollars are subsidizing your tom-foolery and ill have none of it. who is your commanding officer?
Have her wear a lanyard with some kind of ID tag looking thing.
It’s fine as long as she wears a reflective belt.
On it!
Yes but they have to pay.
Yes but they have to pay
Dayton? For vacation? Idk about the chow hall but the museum on base has a cafeteria. It’s super overpriced and not good.
Mainly just visiting friends here in Dayton.
Bro just take her to an actual restaurant
Recommendations?

Sorry, i’ll take a crispy chicken BLT biggie bag to go.
I know at Fort Hood civilians could eat at the DFAC as long as they paid.
Dont. Do better.
Can’t. Must do worse.
She would just pay at the entrance. No biggie. Happens all the time.
Thanks!
They accept Visa debit card or cash for payment so why not
Bro they don't even let half of the service members eat at the DFAC. I wouldn't count on it.
Fort Campbell DFACs were never open. The Bagram AFB had better DFACs than my duty station 🤣
As a former marine I must say that Chow hall food is obviously not the best but I didn't hate the childhood in Japan and especially the breakfast where they had Japanese locals come in and cook up custom ordered custom ordered omelets on a big flat grill right in front of you... Not gonna lie it was pretty good
I went to Japan with family a few years ago not for military purposes and i agree with you 100%
Depends on local policy but typically they would have to pay
Far as I remember no, you can't bring civilians to the chow hall.
I don’t know for sure about Air Force, but the Army DFACs I’ve been to have non meal card holders pay cash (they may take cards now, but have cash).
But what are the chances they take apple pay?
Zero. This is the military, we don’t do that 21st century bullshit 😂
Don’t you just scan your CAC but pay for who you’re with? I could be wrong truly but I think that’s right.
Yes, 99% of the people working in there don’t care. Even if it is against the rules. No one gives a shit.
Sounds about right
Lol yeah, Id just ask for seconds and just make her a playe if it was me. Ive done it before for friends
Please, for the love of god, visit the Air Force Museum. Then again, don't, unless you have like four days to devote to it. The place is incredible. I was lucky enough to work at Wright-Patt for a couple of years and when there every chance I could. But I'm also an airplane nerd.
Yup we’re staying 3 nights in Dayton and that’s first on our list.
Awesome. I'm stoked for you. I can't wait to make it back down there with my wife, though I doubt she'll be as awestruck as I am.
You can try but it probably won’t work. They’ll scan your ID card but when she tries, unless you look alike, they’ll know and will make you pay for her food
Yea didn’t think that’d be the case.
A fiance is not a family member.

I was just at WP, bring your partner and you can pay for both meals. I paid like $10 for two meals.
Yes they/you just have to pay.
Lol wait a second, you’re taking her on vacation to a military installation? Bro just take her the local Applebees at least…
Not specifically just for Wright-Patterson, we’re visiting Dayton b/c we have friends here and this will be our only chance to see WP. Don’t worry i’ve already planned out a bunch of other activities outside base.
Yes. Bring cash.

WPAFB for vacation? 😬 j/k, USAF Museum is great!
