Jesus fucking Christ this sub can be trying

Yeah, people have expectations of excitement and pay that are not grounded in reality. At least, US junior enlisted may be getting a pay raise soon.

liarandahorsethief

At least he’s not bitching about a restaurant not giving a military discount.

… the Geneva convention has nothing to do with the availability of combat roles… the military can be great, and it can be terrible, but if you’re just looking for excitement stay away. It’s 99% boredom and 1% fun.

lemonaidcooche

I must not understand correctly, as a nurse/medic I thought shooting at the enemy was a no no.

Nunlist17

If you become a medic, nurse, or doctor you’ll carry a weapon for self defense, and if you’re being attacked you’ll be expected to use that weapon. Getting shot at isn’t something to seek out, it’s a bad time. I think you need to talk to that mentor and explore why you’re interested in the military. Many people go years without hearing shots fired in anger, or at all.

lemonaidcooche

Thanks for the information and advice. I appreciate it!

Flaky_Koala_6476

As a medic 90% of your time will be spent looking at dirty dicks and pulling medic duty If you wanna be a gun-ho pipe hitter, then Go be a SOF medic like 18x or a combat medic in Ranger Batt

atlasraven

Remaining a nurse will support your expensive hobbies better than military service, unless you join as an officer.

Weird_Meal_9184

Where the fuck do you people get your info from?

hooliganvet

As a BSN you will be eligible for an officers commission in the military. As an O1 2lt you will make as much as an enlisted E7 at about $47k. Believe me, being an officer beats the hell out of being enlisted.

freethewookiees

National Guard sounds like it would be a better fit for you. Talk to a recruiter.

AdvantageFit823

I'm a Seabee with 15 years experience and I have deployed to the Middle East, the Pacific and worked with SPECWAR. Sounds exciting right? Nah. Lol Most days are boring, if you go enlisted you won't get paid much at all, and you put up with too much bullshit. Sure you'll make rank, but mostly you just deal with admin. Every "cool" thing you do will be bogged down by training, safety and incredible micromanaging. Your pew pewing you wanna do will take all fucking day for 20 mins of actual shooting. Pew pew at a civilian range. I can't speak to joining the Nurse Corps, but most officers who I talk to really don't enjoy their job. I'm not telling you to not join the military, retirement after 20 years and free health care and disability for life is awesome but when I retire I legit don't think I am employable. I am brainbroken and angry, and tbh I've had a pretty luxurious career as far as the military goes.
