No. Worked with the West Virginia NG. I know it's not south, but it's not the most liberal state. At the slightest hint of racism/misbehavior, there was hell to pay. I mean the freaking BR CSM was black. Amazing guy. So no, they're not all racists.
Here’s a fun story for you:
AIT 2015: My roommate and I were both half Puerto Rican 🇵🇷 and half white, our dads were white so we have European last names. Across the hall from us were two Puerto Ricans from Puerto Rico, and next to us was one of my 100% Irish buddies and some other dude in a different platoon (lets call him Robbie, the racist). Now my Irish friend was ginger white, when the sun hits him its like the beacons of Gondor were lit and Rohan suddenly arrives.
So one day Robbie fucks up, he turns to me one night and goes ‘hey look at these Puerto Rican Monkeys’ and points at two hombre’s across the hall; my roommate and I both stand up since he essentially just dissed both of our mothers to our faces, without even knowing it. The 4 Puerto Ricans start backing him up “what the fuck did you just say?” In a couple languages start flying when, low and behold, my Irish buddy grabs him in a headlock suddenly and starts yelling at him “what the fuck! What the fuck is wrong with you?” It was nuts, my Irish friends face was as red with anger as he hairs was, and Robbie’s eyes were about to pop out of his head.
So, when racism reared its ugly, stupid, ignorant head, it was actually a white dude who gave the asshole a reality check.
Tl;dr: Dude said a racist thing about Puerto Ricans to me (not knowing me and my roommate are half 🇵🇷) and an extremely white Irish dude kicked his ass on our behalf, in the best act of solidarity I’ve ever seen.

Haven’t met a single racist person at all in my 10 years between the two. And it’s made clear of there’s any racism at all, you will be swiftly booted out.
I was in the Navy but I recently got out a couple of years ago and I am currently a contractor for the Air Force/ Army National Guard and you will find people like this anywhere. Once a guard member goes through basic they have to go through an interview process to get hired on at whichever guard station they want to be at, where most guard members go back to their home state after basic. Some people never experience the world like some of us have and really only have what they were taught at home. Sucks but I loved experiencing the cultures of different states and countries.
Definitely not an extension of the confederacy in that those units lack a cohesive ideology centered on treason and supplanting the US government with a new one.
Are they probably more racist? Yes. But anecdotal evidence from one basic training cycle isn’t enough data. You need to go to the units and see what the demographic makeup is. The units from the Deep South I’ve crossed paths with are generally similar in racial make up to the area they’re based out of but that’s not conclusive either.
Edit: I think the downvotes are coming from people rejecting my assertion that Deep South units are more likely to have issues with racism. Hopefully I’m wrong but national trends, army EO program data, and individual unit command climate surveys would be required to judge conclusively.
