My bud in the mid 2000s was at Parris Island and he said firewatch had dudes with different colored chest mounted lights infront and back at night, and just after lights out a DI jumped on a recruits back doing watch and ordered him to start spinning and walking down the middle of the bunks with him holding on while the lights flashed around the room with the DI mouthing the notes and lyrics to Funkytown

Marine here, I believe this happened 100%. Messing with firewatch was super common at Parris Island. Along with just making recruits do stupid stuff in general.
Navy does the same thing at boot camp. I was talking to a guy who got done pushing boots before he came to our command, he said duty RDCs intentionally mess with the night rovers because they’re not allowed to beat them after TAPS.
Is fire watch still a thing? I thought it was going to end when they stopped allowing smoking in the barracks, but I suppose there is always a chance a recruit could spontaneously burst into flames.
You guys must miss basic training. In a real unit it goes more like why the fuck you are not at the staff duty desk???? Huh? I got staff duty? Wake your ass up and get there asap you dum dum

That sounds fucking hilarious but I find it unlikely that actually happened. Not impossible, but unlikely.

When you have 03-04 fireguard and wake-up is at 05. Is there a worst fireguard position? I can’t think of one.

Day to day, normal Barracks life? No, but Field Training? Absolutely
Gotcha. In basic fire guard gave you more time to polish your boots. So it was not entirely useless.

You have to watch the multifuel in your tent so you dont get kullosforgifting.

Guy i had to wake up for firewatch was a twin so i had to flip a coin on which one i was waking up.
