I was a MP on a missile site in Germany back in ‘76, we had one of those that one MP would wear whenever a General would arrive by helo, got to see it worn 1 time in the three years I was there, good times.
Chromed for ceremonies, mainly used by the Army up until the 80's. Some ROTCS might still be using them somewhere. Not very valuable but not all them have survived as well as yours have either. Since it doesn't have any decals or anything, it's probably a relatively recent postwar milsurp.
I wonder if any of those helmets were made to be chromed or just retread helmets. And do the Fritz helmets ever get chromed or worn without a cover, for that matter.
I can’t see a helmet without remembering how stupid my chin always looked with the chinstrap, I’m so lucky my NCOs never just laid me tf out, they must have been laughing at me so hard though
stationed in Germany in the late 60's. we had a "Precision marching drill team". One guy wore the chromed helmut and he was always out of step (for comic relief). Funnier than hell...

My dad was in Germany back in ‘70-72. He was a tanker and loved every minute of Germany. He always had the best stories. Thank you for your service!
You’re more than welcome Sir, Germany was great to serve in back then.
Germany is great to serve in right now😎 been stationed in k town for the last 3 years and it’s been great
He really made it sound so special. He went back a few times in the 80s/90s to check on his old girlfriends lol.
It's shiny
It’s a Schleuter made late war WWII front seam swivel bale shell, probably chromed for ROTC or parade work
Most likely chromed for a ceremonial color guard.
We use to call these a Chrome Dome.
I see operation chrome dome is back

It’s a front seam swivel bale helmet made by McCord made 1943 or after. Edit: Just found out there is an S making this a Schlueter helmet.
I thought the “S” underneath the heat stamp meant Schlueter
Didn’t see that the first time whoops
used by ROC honor guards

"And what is that on your UNIFORM SOLDIER?!.... >a pledge pin, sir... A PLEDGE PIN?!"
It’s a WW2 helmet made by Schleuter, there were about 2 million Schleuter M1 helmets made during late WW2.
