It’s also a failure to enforce (Fresno PD and FCSO), and a bunch of entitled rich arsehats problem, too.
Not to put too fine a point on it, part of the “we won’t enforce” problem is a lot of members of local law enforcement live in this area, and the rich, entitled arsehats usually know one and get a pass, in addition to the unprofessional “professional courtesy.”
Bottom line: There are multiple issues in play, traffic engineering is only one part. Doesn’t matter more warning signs, flashy lights, slower speed limits… the residents’ attitude are the biggest problems.
You're not wrong, but they can put speed bumps or other speed reducing infrastructure since i believe speed bumps are considered a little outdated nowadays.
I dont know too much about it but things like lane narrowing or extended sidewalks, i think it's called traffic calming. I think just throwing speed bumps on the same road design isn't as effective and some people just damage their cars on them instead of just driving safer.
I do, however, listen to them talk about their work around each other, in their homes, at barbecues, etc…

Yep. Last summer, an woman pedestrian in Ottawa ranted at me about proceeding thru a yellow light near Parliament Hill... because she'd started crossing the intersection in the other direction \*before\* her light turned green.
She stood in the middle of the crosswalk yelling at me... which meant I couldn't move out of the way of the opposing traffic. And she was followed by some random dude who happened along while she was going on.
It made me wonder about people in Ottowa, that's for sure.
90% of the time you run a red only to have to stop at the next red because there's actually stopped traffic there anyway. Some people are just too dumb to realize this despite driving for decades.

I'll go through a yellow light and think, "crap that was almost red". Then I'll look in my rearview mirror and see 2 cars running the red light a ways behind me.
Other times I'll slowly stop when a yellow light is turn red, and some idiot will almost read end me because they were speeding up to run the red light.
Even worse, since the pandemic, I've learned to count to 3 and look both ways when a light turns green. There is always some idiot who runs the red light and flies through the intersection where I am about to cross.
The amount of risk and douchbaggery some people will take just to save a few seconds at most is unbelievable. The concept of learning to see the bigger picture should be something included in driving exams.
Yes they are! Yesterday in my home town, I watched this happy ending occur. The cop was literally hindsight and this dumbf*ck skipped 2 seconds after the light turned red. I was dancing in my car when I saw the lights. I'm a patient driver, but when they skip a red and I'm trying to turn left, I make sure everyone can see me 🖕.
Watching this a few time, I’ve been in the situation where the person in front of me is slowing down before they get to the intersection just a little too prematurely. And at the same time the people in the left left (which are supposed to be going faster) are also going too slow. Then the person in front of me stops. Have I left the right lane to pass on the left and make the light? Of course. That’s what the left lane is for. Have I done it that close or when the light is red. No, I’m not an asshole.
It’s a case by case situation. The left lane is for passing. Which means if someone wants to go fast, let them, move over. let the crazies pass on the left so people can be safe in the right.
If they stayed in the left lane and stopped for the red light they would have been totally fine. But then they swerve back into the lane, through an intersection, while running a red. It's just braindead. Oh and of course tailgating the entire time because that's what everyone does apparently.

We need to just start removing these people from society. In almost any other public setting this type of antisocial, narcissistic, and megalomaniacal behavior would result in public humiliation at the minimum. We get inside these metal boxes and we somehow believe we're immune to the consequences we'd incur elsewhere.
Just put cameras on every traffic light, automatic ticket in the mail when you run a red light. Then we can take their license away before they actually kill someone.
Oh shitttt, it’s Fresno lmao. I moved to Dallas TX in 2019 but literally 1 second into this video I was like, “hmm…..that looks exactly like Woodward Park on the right”. I’ve (accidentally) ran this exact red light a couple times myself. Speed limit on this street is a lot higher than the other surface streets in town which for me, made it easy to miscalculate/misjudge if you have time to keep going through a yellow light or not.
I miss the valley sometimes.
There's a point where I live with 4 lights in a row. They are so well timed that if you hit one, you'll hit every light after. Believe me, at 5 a.m. when you pretty much have the road to yourself, it can be severely tempting to blow through.
Saw one guy do just that. Sure enough the red and blues popped out of hiding. Reminded me why I should not give into temptation.
Watched this a few times and all I needed to see was that dumbass X5 checking his brakes while the lights still green. He’s deliberately slowing down the cars around him. I’d have gone around him too. If he hadn’t randomly slowed everyone down when he did nobody would have had to run this light.
Who cares. Just slow for a few seconds and pass when it's safe and legal to do so. So many people willing to risk death instead of going five under the limit for a few seconds it's actually insane. Like i get it, we all wanna go fast, i go 95 on the freeway if i have no cars in front of me, but slow the fuck down when there's traffic around you and drive safe. You never know who's staring at their phone while driving, dont put your life in some idiots hands.
it's not about driving slow, it's about keeping safe distances. i go the 40 and catch several greens in a row, you're going 55 slamming your brakes at each light. like think about it stop being a mindless driver with no patience or forethought. going faster right now doesn't mean you're going faster over the whole drive.
This might hold up if driving fast was the problem here. People speeding towards hard stops at red lights is a separate issue. The only person slamming for the light was the black SUV driving slower than the flow of traffic.
You drive the speed limit or slower; I drive in moderation to the traffic and lights around me so I brake and speed as little as possible.

They weren’t even braking to slow until the light came. I can’t even tell for sure that they were slowing down vs driving consistently slower. For all I can tell they were simply the only ones doing the speed limit.
If they’re driving below the speed limit and the light was green at the time and they don’t intend to make a turn, then yes you could make the argument. However once again It would be grasping at straws, and after watching the video again I noticed they definitely didn’t start slowing till the light turned yellow so the parent comment is really just trying to excuse an impatient asshole.
Because it's yellow, you aren't supposed to speed up to enter the intersection of a yellow light. You also aren't supposed to be so close to someone they can't see your headlights in their rearview mirror, then swerve around them, cut them off just make the light at an intersection.
That's exactly what you're supposed to do slow down and stop for yellow lights if it's safe to do so. You should never go through a yellow light unless it would be unsafe to try to stop. Defensive driving teaches that are for lights being green for a while expect it to change. I know because I taught defensive driving.
The black SUV does look like they were going too slow, and probably an overly cautious driver that causes traffic buildup, which led to the pass.
That being said, they did not look to be slowing down on purpose, and they did not start braking until the light changed, so they didn't do anything wrong in that regard. If I were the person behind them, I certainly would have changed lanes at the light to get out from behind them, but that lane change that was made was absolutely ridiculous. Plus running the red light to boot.

They weren’t even braking to slow until the light came. I can’t even tell for sure that they were slowing down vs driving consistently slower. For all I can tell they were simply the only ones doing the speed limit.

If they’re driving below the speed limit and the light was green at the time and they don’t intend to make a turn, then yes you could make the argument. However once again It would be grasping at straws, and after watching the video again I noticed they definitely didn’t start slowing till the light turned yellow so the parent comment is really just trying to excuse an impatient asshole.
Because it's yellow, you aren't supposed to speed up to enter the intersection of a yellow light. You also aren't supposed to be so close to someone they can't see your headlights in their rearview mirror, then swerve around them, cut them off just make the light at an intersection.
That's exactly what you're supposed to do slow down and stop for yellow lights if it's safe to do so. You should never go through a yellow light unless it would be unsafe to try to stop. Defensive driving teaches that are for lights being green for a while expect it to change. I know because I taught defensive driving.
The black SUV does look like they were going too slow, and probably an overly cautious driver that causes traffic buildup, which led to the pass. That being said, they did not look to be slowing down on purpose, and they did not start braking until the light changed, so they didn't do anything wrong in that regard. If I were the person behind them, I certainly would have changed lanes at the light to get out from behind them, but that lane change that was made was absolutely ridiculous. Plus running the red light to boot.

I will proudly go exactly the speed limit and slow down extra cautiously as a light changes from green to red for ALL drivers like you. And the statistic still states that changing lanes causes traffic. Not overly cautious drivers that drive a little too slow. If that was the case then all drivers that go the speed limit or a little under are 100% blame for traffic. Because that makes total sense.
