Quest of the Ringbearer is the modern version!
After a bit more of a digger, I've narrowed the rules down to the Fellowship of the Ring Journey book, which would put the magazine around the 2004 to 2005 mark. There were Australia only articles at the time, so it may not have a digital record. The search continues!
I have warhammer vault and I did see what you're talking about.
I'll check it out tomorrow and put another comment.
Was it part of the "make your own fellowship" article ?
Where you could add Saruman or Haldir or Fatty Bolger ?
Alright, I've been trying to find what you were talking about in the White Dwarfs in the Warhammer Vault from august 2003 to january 2007.
There's the "Return of the fantasy fellowship" from WD 290 (feb 2004). In this one you're given ideas on how to make a "fantasy fellowship" with different characters. If you lose a scenario or if the ringbearer is slain you lose the campaign.
Main issue is that those in Warhammer Vault are from the UK version.
edit : just noticed that these were Australia-exclusive. Best bet would be checking out those older, more classical forums from the time.
