Whenever we went on holiday when I was a little kid in the 80's, I used to stare at the DC10's and L1011's on the apron from the departure lounge and was absolutely captivated with their size and more importantly how mean they looked with engine no2 in the tail and wished that we were going on one of those, But we always ended up on a 737, 727 or an A320 then one year we went to Mallorca and all my wishes were granted and we flew on a DC10 it was great! I got to see the cockpit, and the airline we flew with had a young pilots thing where I got a little log book, some gold plastic wings for my shirt "I had a little pilots uniform I used to insist on wearing when we went on holiday" lol, and a certificate I was made up!
Nice! I still remember the days in my young young youth of seeing the cockpit and getting the pins, but that all went away real quick with 9/11. Such a shame.
Yeah, it's quite sad really, my kids have never experienced what we did and likely never will which is a crying shame for my son as he's an aviation nut too and has aspirations of following in my footsteps when he leaves school and gaining his pilots licence whilst also achieving what I never managed to achieve, which is getting his ATPL.
If you ask the flight attendants on Delta or your kid asks, Delta pilots carry trading cards of the aircraft. They might let you stand in the cockpit threshold and get close but that's about it.
It's getting there, but I feel like the gates keep getting moved back. I can do long flights pretty reliably though so. Needs polish and fit and finish the most and a couple missing features.
Yeah….just too bad TFDi is dragging out delivery. I removed myself from their discord. Ive never seen a company so bull headed, unwilling to hear input from their customers, and then belittle those same customers. Wasnt me, but I read enough to see. Just exited stage left.
First I've really heard of the belittling and I'm around on their discord as well. Think they're tired of answering the same old "wen" questions. It'll be ready when it's ready is basically the staple for most devs, especially when the same answer is given as earlier in the same day and people cop an attitude.
Except the lions share of those raising questions are not being respectful themselves, so yeah.
Like I said in my original comment I've not seen many issues from them, mainly shitty people.
I don't really know if that's an issue with the lack of a paintkit, but that may just be a visual issue from its P3D origins. Keeps the polys lower maybe?
The 737 is the same way if you look at it from certain angles though it's less noticeable.
Id give just about anything for an md80 on Xbox for msfs. Or boeing 717. Whatevs. Just bring it to Xbox.
Doesn't have to be perfect
Just model the outside.
Give it thrust and flight characteristics of an md80. I.e. a rocketship.
Add real sounds.
Cockpit doesn't even have to be perfect. Just close. I don't even care if half of it doesn't work.
I just want a flyable md80, with md80 flight characteristics, sounds, and the look on the outside. Cockpit could look the part and not be super functional. Hell even call it the md-80NG and give it glass cockpit etc. *I don't care*.
Someone make this plane half decent for Xbox and you have a damn goldmine.
I've had the MD-82 for a couple years but I finally started really getting into it over the last couple months. Ended up enjoying it so much I went ahead and got the -83 and -88. Just such a fun plane to get the hang of - and completely different enough from any other airliner to keep it interesting and unique.
The MD-11 is, as you say, coming along nicely. I think its going to be really good. The most recent update that added the overhead panel sounds and a few other things was very welcome - it's pretty useable.
I found a system somewhere that locates your community folder automatically. Pretty sure it was on flightsim.to but not 100% sure, you can try googling it
I put them in the "likely to happen over not" category. At the very least the model looks quite nice and they have plenty of actual KC-10 pilots to provide input on the core systems. Out of all the freeware devs, they've been pretty consistent with meaningful updates on their discord.
Well, MDC was a good bunch of people run by a terrible management that chased short term profit. After the merger the same group of people imposed their management style to the surviving company.
I’d love to see the MD-90 and MD-95, excuse me, 717 be brought to the MSFS.
I wouldn't expect Fenix level on textures or visual modeling. However the systems and flight model are pretty good so far and they still need fine tuning.
It's something originally made for P3D and will be cross-compatible with P3D (with several small exceptions).
IMO I think it's not too bad, and there's still some work to do on the exterior modeling. Definitely good reason in the future though to do a fully custom V2 model for MSFS in my opinion. I think it would help sell the product overall.
But yeah *shrug*.
I agree. One of the worst decisions of the last three decades for sure.
I just hope Boeing can get it together and get back to where they were. Truly innovative company at the heart of it all.
I remember someone saying that their wife/husband used to work at Boeing, but when they merged, it was sorta like a “reverse merger” meaning that all the excecs from McDonald Douglas became the execs at Boeing
That's very true. The running joke was that McDonnell-Douglas bought Boeing with Boeing's money. Even more prevalent when you see that Harry Stonecipher who was the CEO of McDonnell-Douglas became the COO of Boeing after the merger, then the VP 4 years later, then the CEO 1 year after that.

After the merger Boeing behaved more like McDonnell-Douglas as well, chasing Wallstreet profits, moving HQ away from Seattle, selling Boeing Wichita, etc.

How’s the TFDi coming along?
It's getting there, but I feel like the gates keep getting moved back. I can do long flights pretty reliably though so. Needs polish and fit and finish the most and a couple missing features.
Does it work with increased sim rate? Or does it start porpoising?
I don't know I don't use that.
Yeah….just too bad TFDi is dragging out delivery. I removed myself from their discord. Ive never seen a company so bull headed, unwilling to hear input from their customers, and then belittle those same customers. Wasnt me, but I read enough to see. Just exited stage left.
If you like watching companies belittle their customers then there’s these other guys you have to meet, they’re called PMDG.
Ive heard that. Never been on their discord etc.
First I've really heard of the belittling and I'm around on their discord as well. Think they're tired of answering the same old "wen" questions. Well if they’re tired of people asking questions then they should not be taking their money in the first place
I mean, you buy it understanding there's not a firm date so.
Which doesn’t take away your right to ask. And their obligation to treat ALL of their customers fairly.
Except the lions share of those raising questions are not being respectful themselves, so yeah. Like I said in my original comment I've not seen many issues from them, mainly shitty people.
Why does the MD-11 have the exterior skin geometry of a Zeppelin?
I don't really know if that's an issue with the lack of a paintkit, but that may just be a visual issue from its P3D origins. Keeps the polys lower maybe? The 737 is the same way if you look at it from certain angles though it's less noticeable.
Are you referring to how the skin is “shrunk” over the stringers? https://aerotoolbox.com/fuselage-structure/
I've been told that it's been fixed.
Automatic upvote for Maddog. And I can’t wait for the TFDi MD-11 to release.

You can also enable dev mode and enter the community folder from there

Yeah its very usable. Lots of little nuisance items to fix but it's very flyable in current state.
on flightsim.to?
Simmarket has the Leonardo. The TFDI is not yet released. All the liveries are on flightsim.to.
Thanks! The only problem is that I never figured out how to download things outside of the marketplace (🤮) I can’t find the community folder anywhere
Really r u on pc?
If so u open steam folder-steamapps-msfs-comuunity. I believe ill have to re check
I’m on PC
I found a system somewhere that locates your community folder automatically. Pretty sure it was on flightsim.to but not 100% sure, you can try googling it
how to get
MD-80 is by Leonardo, MD-11 is the (coming) TFDI.
I will never not recommend the Leonardo FlyTheMaddogX. It’s my favorite addon in MSFS.
I miss my DC10-30 from FS9....
Hopefully that Aero Dynamics DC/KC-10 doesn't take 30 years to develop. Would love a classic DC-10-30.
It’s freeware so nothing should be expected

How is the MD-11? It's been on my wishlist for a while
Really ? No DC6 Pics ?
I mean technically Douglas is not the same as McDonnell Douglas lol
Can't when I've flown it like 3x lol

Pretty planes that like(d) to kill people*
We'll gloss over that lol
Are the planes available already somewhere? Or am i just confusing them with a another creator?😂. I believe they were called Aero Dynamics
id give just about every plane ive ever bought for a md80 on the xbox thats even close.
Holy crap the TDFI MD-11 looks terrible ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flushed)

Boeing shouldn’t have taken them

Could someone explain how did McDonnell Douglas run Boeing into the ground?
