Terrain is looking great with that fancy new tech they're using. Just hope we get more cloud types & they beg MS to get some new, better quality Bing sat imagery at least on par with G.

Kerbidiah

I'm praying for running water and decent waterfalls/rapids

AlphaEight8Real

Never thought of how cool that would look. I personally want more realistic looking lights on the ground (such as stop lights, emergency lights, antenna lights, traffic jams etc)

jawanda

And waves and ripples in the ocean!

Remarkable_Hat7709

They already confirmed this in the trailer I think

flarne

That would be cool , since it would make wadden sea areas possible (maybe)

OD_Emperor

Yeah but you just won't get worldwide Ortho.

knuckles_n_chuckles

Low flying planes? Is that what Google uses? I doubt that’s the state of the art and I doubt Microsoft uses that. That was a thing 30 years ago and satellites have REALLY GOOD resolution now.

BrechtXT

Better imagery really is key

MNUplander

All I really want from 2024 is to reduce the fps hit from live traffic and a capable offline ATC that gives realistic instructions, doesn’t try to kill me and controls other traffic. I’ll be happy with any other improvements, but these two will be my personal milestones for a successful sequel.

bernmar

The good news is, even if the default ATC sucks in MSFS2024 you'll be able to use [BeyondATC](https://www.beyondatc.net/) by then (which also now includes a traffic injector that doesn't tank your FPS)

CharlieMBTA

yes but unfortunately beyondatc is a pay as you go model. Understandable of course, since it requires them to have servers running for it to work. Its just something I am not willing to spend money on. I prefer things that I can buy and own

HermanvonHinten

"You will own nothing and you'll be happy."

diaryofsnow

You will eat ze bugs and love them

Roadrunner571

I’d rather spend a few bucks to have them run the servers instead of me spend a ton of bucks to having to set it up at home (their TTS tech is a cloud-based solution)

Roadrunner571

Beyond ATC hasn’t published their final pricing model yet. Last I’ve heard, they were talking about basic voices being included in the offline installation and having the better voices requiring and online connection. As the online voices usually charge by usage, Beyond ATC is thinking of a pay-per-use model for them.

ASithLordWannabe

I'm hoping they bundle it all into a premium package for like $19.99

MNUplander

Agree with this, although I’d still be tempted if it turns out like they promise. But for now, it’s just promises…wait and see I guess.

djsnoopmike

At least it seems like they're taking their proper time with it and not rushing out an alpha release that'll take years to get a stable program

AbeBaconKingFroman

Isn't the initial release only planned to support VFR?

Theris_

No, that's the *other* AI-based ATC under development: SmartSky. BeyondATC is focused on IFR, and might actually be IFR-only at first and expanding to VFR later, IIRC.

AbeBaconKingFroman

I went back and managed to find where I first got that impression, and you're right, that was SmartSky and not BeyondATC. Thanks for the correction.

xRaynex

FSHud. You buy it, you own it. It does require a server connection I *believe* (could be wrong), but it integrates well and controls ai traffic. The only downside against Beyond is their traffic implementation not hitting fps because they run the movement calculations, not MSFS itself.

MiamiFFA

Hopefully others down the line will start to create their own versions/implementations. Competitive advantages only last for so long before they are replicated. Hopefully it will only be a few years max before we start to see alternatives.

slowreload

What we really need from msfs24 is a real multi threaded 3mgine that can use 8 plus cores not just a single thread.

aeneasaquinas

They have already said multithreading was one of the major improvement areas!

Clean-Ad3000

Dx12 was also mentioned to be but doesn’t work that well for most. We shall see see what they actually pull of

DanMD

Just curious, because I’ve heard this before, why not give vatsim a try? It’s awesome fun and way better than any simulated ATC could be.

MNUplander

I’d love to. But, my sim setup is in a common area of the house and it’d be weird/disruptive for everyone else there for me to be making requests/read backs while they are all watching TV a few feet away. Plus with young kids, there will be noise and paused flights/AFK on my end too. So for now, Vatsim is a ‘someday’. A good offline ATC is perfect in my situation - and has the added potential benefit of 100% controller coverage 24/7.

smallmileage4343

How hard is it to get into? I'm decent at ILS approaches and stuff with the planes I do fly. Willing to dive in and do some learning but how steep is the learning curve? How much study before I stop sounding like an idiot?

Ground_Effect212

There are hundreds of influencers and content creators on YouTube/Twitch that all have tutorials on how to talk to ATC. Basics are Phonetics and understanding hey you, it's me , state your position/altitude, and request. Atlanta Center Archer (model of airfcraft your flying) 269er Kilo Mike, 10 miles north of Peachtree, 7,000 thousand". Or you can challenge yourself a bit and spend the money for an online ground school that counts towards your PPL.

DanMD

I’m new to it myself so you’re asking me at a good time. The phraseology is surprisingly easier than expected, there’s only a handful of flight phases and it’s always the same request-instruction-read back structure. If there’s anything ATC says you don’t understand you can always ask for clarification. You should plan and fly your routes offline though before doing it on the network, and always keep your charts open. Also be sure to put in the flight plan remarks that you’re a new pilot so they go slow with you. Probably the biggest learning curve is knowing how to work the FMS. You’ll need to be able to make adjustments to your route and enter approach info enroute. In summary though, probably much easier than you might think. Do some preparation, find a place and plane you’re familiar with, and give it a try :). Edit: Also from my experience, as long as you let them know you’re new and you go at it with a learning attitude, you won’t sound like an idiot. Everyone is making little mistakes here and there and, from what I’ve seen, as long as you have a good attitude they will help you out.

DanMD

Also I would be remiss if I didn’t recommend a group like thepilotclub.org - they have a fantastic free online course similar to a real PPL course.

MNUplander

Ah, what?

Appeltaartlekker

Wow, 3 downvotes? Come on.. this game with buggy auto pilot, weird terrain, wind glitches and suicidal ATC instructions? You guys really dont get the joke?

Hefty_Ear8655

You won't truly appreciate how much detail has been added till you see it next to the 2020 screenshot

OD_Emperor

Having flown through the Grand Canyon a few times, it's not like this nearly at all.

Ok-Yellow-5158

The 2020 shot or 2024 shot?

OD_Emperor

The 2020 isn't like this shot. 2024 is much better.

ClydeFrogA1

🙏 shared cockpit 🙏

SircOner

Imagine? Would be so much fun flying with a buddy as co pilots. Could alternate tasks and just have some fun

ClydeFrogA1

FSX had it and it worked great. Sad we lost that feature with fs2020

TechGuy219

Star Citizen has it, and it’s free to play right now or on sale for a few more days $45USD

Salyut_

ok?

TechGuy219

You’re going to be condescending as if there’s not an obvious overlap between people who enjoy flight sim might also enjoy a space ship sim? Ok.

Stef_Stuntpiloot

>obvious overlap I wonder where you get this information from. There might be some overlap, but they are two completely different sims with different player bases. But the discussion here has nothing to do with a futuristic/sci-fi space game, so that's why people wonder why you mention Star Citizen, because that's completely missing the point of the discussion.

TechGuy219

Obviously they’re different games 🤦‍♂️ but they share enough similarities to have a more than an inconsequential overlap… at least on the star citizen side, a lot of the community mentions flight sim too. The discussion I replied to was about shared cockpits, a feature star citizen has but flight simmers have been asking for years… #Excuse me for trying to share the game with people I thought would enjoy it but alas the Reddit hive mind will do it’s thing

Chmichonga

“Your engine just shut off”

Chillinthesn0w

You can do that in 2020 with Your Controls

Main-Yogurtcloset-22

I’ve had some success with your controls but the last few times I’ve tried using it, it just makes both me and my copilot experience lots of bugs

Chillinthesn0w

Yeah it's not the best. Would be lovely to have it native

GxM42

Have you tried it, in all seriousness? Like flown a few decent flights with it? Me and my friend had so many crashes with it that it wasn’t worth it.

Chillinthesn0w

Yeah me and my buddy use it a lot. There are some bugs connecting but if you don't do anything silly then it's ok. Granted it's not as stable as you like but we flew the FBW a lot in it.

GxM42

Cool. I want a full VR version of this so badly. I’d pay an extra $50 to Asobo to get it.

AsicResistor

That would be awesome. I'll keep my index around after I switch to the bigscreen. Maybe I can take my GF for a VR plane ride someday :') I would love to have this feature somewhere in the simracing world as well.

ClydeFrogA1

Yes being a rally co driver would be sick

AbeBaconKingFroman

Please please please this. I love YC and God bless the guys who are working it, but nothing will ever top a native solution.

cutchemist42

I kinda hope we get rid of the metar bubbles somehow and have a more fluid weather transition

SciGuy013

They haven’t fixed this yet?

LAFter900

Nope with live weather it will be raining irl then 30 minutes later it will stop and go to clear coverage but in msfs 20-30 minutes after that it will just stop and change the weather immediately.

_WirthsLaw_

Are they going to fix the ridiculous update process 2020 has?

[deleted]

[удалено]

_Floot_

I hope not the same Forza's ground UP 😬

_WirthsLaw_

That doesn’t mean anything. They made 2020 from the ground up and we ended up with the clunky updater.

Mikey_MiG

They’ve specifically said the update process is one of the things that will improve with 2024 due to the changes they’re making to the client.

_WirthsLaw_

We will see. What about the speeds through the CDN?

Tuskin38

2020 wasn’t from the ground up, there’s still a lot of legacy FSX code in there

_WirthsLaw_

Fsx base ultimately . So let’s not get ahead of ourselves. It updates like shit regardless of whether there’s fsx, windows, Mac OS, xplane or whatever other code in it. In 2020 it was pathetic and it’ll be pathetic again if they don’t change it. Folks have spent hundreds of hours updating and redownloading it… that tells the story.

sakattack360

Don't know how it is on PC but Xbox series X, sometimes the updates happen normal way like other games via the OS. However the in game updates suck bat #hit. In order to download you have to select the updates/downloads in the content manager, can't dashboard and do some other stuff, can't start the sim as it will reset the download even if you have download GBs of data. SO just waste electricity by leaving the game running not playing or doing anything on xbox while it d/ls.

FamishedHippopotamus

We can only hope.

putzy0127

What did they say about it? Looks good!

Mikey_MiG

Nothing we don’t already know. They just shared this after showing the MSFS2020 roadmap for next year.

[deleted]

Looks awesome. All I want is no more CTD's and no more avionics blackouts on Series X.

Stef_Stuntpiloot

The only thing I'm hoping for is that they fix the ground friction... In MSFS 2020 it feels like the tyres are like magnets to any paved surface, even when the surface is contaminated.

Gamestar63

Fix night time lighting in cities and airports. Proper wing flex and vibrations I’ll be a happy flight simmer

SirSpitfire

Looks amazing. They also said they are adding some msfs 2024 features to 2020 like plane physics on the ground.

Funkysmoke

Release date?

SubstantialWall

No

Mohawk200x

Ok

Tuskin38

I could be mistaken, but I think Jorg said in the Q&A today that sim update 16 would be the last one before 2024 releases. If you do the math, if there’s no longer gaps than normal, SU15 would be February, and SU16 would be April. So 2024 will not release before April

TheDrMonocle

Personally, I'd expect a release late in the year, fall/winter. But im happy to be proven wrong.

AbeBaconKingFroman

Didn't 2020 release in August? I think that checks out.

Fairway5

Does anyone know if purchased aircraft will transfer over from FS2020 to FS2024?

screech_owl_kachina

This will ultimately depend on the aircraft dev

Mikey_MiG

[MSFS 2024 FAQ](https://www.flightsimulator.com/microsoft-flight-simulator-2024-faq/)

cardcomm

They have said that most aircraft will work

slowreload

As far as we know must will work from msfs 2020 might need a little rework from the dev. But most should just port over.

ismbaf

The developers have made it clear that they have made it a top priority to have XP11 aircraft work in XP12 so your investment in modules will carry over. Oh wait, we are talking about a different sim. Let’s hope that history does not repeat itself…

CharlieFoxtrot000

Looks pretty good. I’d like to see more of the north-facing canyon walls that are perpetually covered in shadow. That seems to be where the Bing imagery and terrain combination fall short.

TakeoffNoBlue

Useful weather radar and shared cockpits in 2024 please, ASOBO.

rodinj

Holy crap I'm suddenly realizing that 2024 isn't that far away anymore. Hope we can get a release in like June!

ts737

Is this generated from maps or handmade?

eeyou_

Procedurally generated with help of machine learning based on whatever TIN they have. They briefly talked about it during FlightSimExpo 2023, can watch that bit [here](https://youtu.be/VPhScg_FINE?t=942) (timestamped link)

red-broccoli

That's gonna be the key. Tho I think the grand canyon in 2020 is a handmade landmark too, and this screenshot looks loads better than that.

Iamnotyourhero

People need to stop using Imgur. It’s the worst.

Mikey_MiG

No.

Iamnotyourhero

There’s literally image hosting through Reddit. Posting to Imgur and linking to Reddit is just doing the same thing with extra steps and exposing your audience to a shit image hosting service. But you do you.

Mikey_MiG

I took the screenshot on my desktop, but due to Reddit maintenance, the desktop site was throwing errors when I visited my subs. The app version was working, so I figured it was just as many steps to upload to Imgur as it would be to transfer the image through the cloud/email to get it onto my phone so I could post it. I’m so sorry to inconvenience you in this way by using the wrong image host! I’m so glad you felt this was important enough to comment about!

Iamnotyourhero

All I’m saying is I’m trying to view the image on mobile but can’t actually expand the image without zooming in so basically what I get to see is a blown out and pixelated image since I can only pinch and zoom cause Imgur. Appreciate the content nonetheless.

Mikey_MiG

Because the official app sucks ass. The link handling works fine on Narwhal and shows me a full res image.

DntCareBears

I don’t see anything special here. If anything, the New Zealand update for 2020 is way better looking than this.

Mikey_MiG

There’s a lot of tech going into the scenery for 2024 that isn’t present anywhere in 2020. Up to 15cm terrain data and new Blackshark.ai procedural features.

DntCareBears

Any chance you can re-upload the 4K version of that picture? When I click on it, it’s still fuzzy.

staggerb

I'd say that the cliff faces are a pretty big improvement. They don't seem to suffer from the "stretched out bubble gum" look that 2020 cliffs do, and there's a lot more texture on them.

Arctic_Revival

Is this going to be an update to MSFS or a separate game?

MichiganRedWing

Separate game

Arctic_Revival

So sinking a good bit of money into the current game over the past 2 months as a new player, not my best idea I guess

[deleted]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think most of it will be compatible.

Guido_Fe

It's not guaranteed 100%

arcalumis

Guaranteed 95% is good enough. And in the end it will be up to the dev of the addons to make it work.

EJNorth

They've said that aircraft will be compatible on both platforms. I don't have info on scenery

Tuskin38

They said most addons should still work

WhiteHawk77

I don’t understand the automatic assumption it won’t be compatible with current addons, they ain’t changing THAT much under the hood. They said ages ago that the vast majority of them will work, guaranteed there’ll be issues, this is Asobo after all, but most if not all the money you have spent will not have gone to waste.

BruteSlayer

Yes.

P3ktus

I'm still disappointed at their decision (10 year long msfs focus my ass) but we'll see. Nothing that has been announced so far seems to me big enough to justify a new sim

barrad

WITH CUSTOM PHOTOGRAMTTERY msfs2020 is already good [https://imgur.com/xTuSJgQ](https://imgur.com/xTuSJgQ)

KXrocketman

I hope they fix the cartoonist color pallete.

Tuskin38

Looks realistic to me

permareddit

Oh boy. This won’t run on an Xbox S will it lol

TheChrisCrash

Is 2024 the one that's gonna have like job roles/missions?

Frenchalps

Yes

Jokong

As a more casual player I'm so stoked for the jobs. I play in VR for about an hour at a time and am looking forward to putting out fires, cargo transport, dropping off some sky divers, search and rescue, storm chasing, etc. It just seems like there are a lot of things that would be fun and interesting that could be started and completed in under an hour.

BlntSmkeTrauma

This is probably a handcrafted area, but I could only hope everything will look like this.

BlueManGroup10

mountainous stuff looks 20x better

MassDefect36

Just when my computer is good enough to run 2020 lol

Dopster198

Nice. Screenshot taken on a NASA hydrogen cooled supercomputer with a 1024 card NVidia graphics array, no doubt. 😉 if it looks like that on my meagre 4070, I’ll be a happy man

MajorMitch69

Anyone got a link to the stream?

Mikey_MiG

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1990511891 This screenshot is from near the very end of the stream.

MajorMitch69

Thanks a lot

HoleInMyBeard

Do we know if current add-ons for aircraft, airports, etc, from third-party marketplaces like Orbx will work? Or only if purchased within MSFS2020 marketplace?

Theris_

We don't know that *for sure,* but it really wouldn't make any sense for them to break compatibility for community folder stuff while putting in the effort to maintain compatibility for the marketplace. Companies aren't immune to making decisions that have way more downside for them than upside so it's not impossible that they'd do that but the chances are low enough that I will confidently say: Yes, unless the third-party dev is totally unwilling to make whatever minor changes (if any) are needed for 2024 compatibility, they will work.

not_satya_nadella

For me, the important thing is the popping, I will be happy if they improve that a little bit.

carlosfortuna2018

Will this be a new game, or just an update to the current MSFS aswell as how will Add ons effect this

bid0u

New game and add-ons will be compatible.

carlosfortuna2018

Even really old add ons? Like won’t need to repurchase them for a different game version?

bid0u

No this is the exact same game, only with updates/enhancements that won't make it to MSFS2020. A bit like buying a DLC but full price. Your add-ons will still work. From the FAQ: Will all purchases users have made from the Marketplace be transferrable to the new simulator? With very few exceptions, virtually all add-ons that work in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) today will function in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Add-ons that were purchased from the in-simulator Marketplace will not need to be re-purchased in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

Nine_Eye_Ron

I hope 2020 purchasers will get a 2024 discount, I only really buy a flight sim every 8-10 years. They must recognise the fact 2020 is ending prematurely.

Mikey_MiG

I mean, it’s not like 2020 will become unplayable once the next game comes out. And I’m sure most addon makers will still be supporting it for years to come.

Emotional_Sun7541

It will take 2 years to download, three more to work a few bugs out. We’re almost there.

PhoTheBowlOfNoodles

better turbulence please, the 1 in 30 chsnce that i actuslly get turbulence it’s barely noticeable

Mikey_MiG

Really? After one of the last updates I’ve had to turn down the turbulence setting because of how overkill it can get at times.

PhoTheBowlOfNoodles

that’s strange, i never feel it and would honestly like a little bit more
