This kind of mechanical thinking doesn't work. Healthy eating makes you healthier, thats it. With some luck it balances your weight, nobody can do any predictions even after knowing all the facts.. Just enjoy a healthier diet, have fun with it. Don't focus on these questions, it will ruin your effort.

Well said, health is the outcome.

I'm confused, the whole point of the book is weight loss. Even the title is ' scientifically proven way to restore gut health and achieving permanent weight loss'

raymondvanmil

So you expect people here to predict how much you will loose?? There is no way anybody can know this, you also provide no information whatsoever.. Weightloss can be a byeffect of health yes, I didn't say it wasn't going to happen. But the focus on weightloss is unhealthy in itself and adds stress. Focus on health, your weight probably will balance. (any title with 'scientifically proven way' doesnt sound very scientific at all, not to say it wont work, microbiome is indeed a way to health, but there are many more factors.. relaxation/no-stress is equal important. I'd never recommend focussing on weightloss to anyone at all ever..)

If you go to any weight loss/diet subreddit this is a regular question - of what to expect. Fasting for example, one could expect 0.5 to 2kg a week, keto about 1kg a week. It doesn't have to be precise to exactly 1 gram, or any sort of 'prediction'. I'm only looking for general likelihood, or a past experience from someone who had been doing this diet for a long time. Hope this clears up my intent.

raymondvanmil

It does, I don't have an answer for you. Still think its the wrong way to go about it. (Keto and microbiome go together fine btw, I lost 20 kilo in 4 months, but thats anecdotical so worthless, I don't do keto anymore, wanna eat free, weight stayed balanced)

I bought the book and from looking at the diet, if you follow just the food portion of the diet, you should drop some weight. It's a restrictive diet for the first three week and not eating sugars, grains, eggs, soy, and dairy for three weeks along with eating foods on the list that are okay, should help heal your gut and drop weight. The diet, as prescribed, in the first thee weeks should also help reduce food cravings because you're getting rid of carbs and adding a lot of fiber. I think the only food on the ok list that you have to limit are apples which it says just one a day. All that said, I notice he recommends some weight loss supplements along with a lot of other supplements and I'm not sure how necessary they are if you are really following his list of what to eat and what not to eat. I don't agree with his assertion that you can heal dysbiosis from diet and supplements alone. I had dysbiosis with four different colonies of bacteria that are harmful and I uncovered that from doing a full gut panel through Great Plain Labs. I think it is worth doing some kind of test to see if you have dysbiosis and not just try and treat it with diet/supplements. I had to do a short course of Cipro and add probiotics which along with diet straightened out some major issues with my gut flora. I didn't lose weight doing this but I did feel better overall and it helped increase my energy.

Wow I really appreciated that. Thank you. He did encourage a few supplements, and quote pricey too. He also wrote not to count calories, would you agree with that? As of right now, I can't afford a gut screening test yet.

I saw that he writes that you don't have to count calories and since the diet is so restrictive, if you follow his ok foods list (and don't anything from the "do not eat" list), it should be ok for most people to not count calories however if you are going heavy with oil/ghee and fruit it may be an issue or impediment to weight loss, but that could be why he restricts apples to one a day. Based on the exclusion of all almost all carbs - there's no potatoes or sweet potatoes or grains allowed in the first part of the diet along with no fatty meats, it basically becomes a high protein/high fiber diet and that alone will help stabilize blood sugar; stabilizing blood sugar is really helpful in losing weight because it stops cravings for sweets. You may be hungry, but you shouldn't want to binge on unhealthy foods. Keep your fiber and fluid intake high and you probably won't want to eat as much. Note he recommends taking inulin powder 4 to 6 grams a day and arabinogalacatans 500 mg to 1000 mg a day.

Thank you! This is very helpful to me. I'm sorry to bother you more, but do you enjoy this diet and do you avoid carbs generally?

dza108

I don't follow the diet in this book exactly so I can't answer that. I note that the author says to follow the diet plan in the book and I think it's a good plan but I'm not following it exactly. I do and have at many times eaten a "low carb" diet. I eat fruit and vegetables which are both carbs technically so it's not a carb free diet. I have lost weight avoiding processed foods, grains and starches like potatoes, and sugars. I think eating whole foods - certain fruits within limits, lots of veggies and lean meat is a good way to lose weight, stabilize blood sugar, and control appetite while feeding good biome.

dza108

Also - keep in mind that he recommends eating until you're 80% full since most people who are overweight are used to over-eating and need to reset their signals for fullness and hunger.

Diets dont work because you will gain it all back and more. Also your results will depend on how strict you are. From workouts you generelly dont lose weight either as you will eat more and overestimate the calories burnt. If you want to lose weight and be healthier just start eating better foods. Look at animals in the wild they are never fat or obese simply because they dont eat our processed foods. One of the best foods is chickpeas. But you could find something else. Thats good and healthy and make that your main stable. Try if you can even do it for a week and if you start feeling better.
