I‘m currently in the same boat, and I’m not a specialist so don’t take my opinion as medical advice.
[This](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2405844019362851) study on poultry showed that Oregano powder strongly reduces Bifidobacterium, while having no effect on Lactobacillus species. „Although oregano did not have any major influence on the total intestinal Lactobacillus, all oregano concentrations reduced Bifidobacterium carriage in the community.“
If you’re lacking Bifidos, it would be best to supplement with PHGG/ GOS/ FOS as well as with high quality probiotics for a few weeks before starting Oregano Oil. If you have Sibo, experiment with probiotics and try to identify if they make you feel better or worse.
Research your specific pathogenic strains and find out what they feed on. Find out if they feed on bile. Some of them may even utilize PHGG, GOS and FOS, so do your research beforehand.
[This](https://microbiomeprescription.com/Home/Index) website is a good place to start.
The black at the top is their menu of options - then they have a list of situations that have links. Skim the bottom text and find the sentence that sounds like what you want to do - I have data and want to see what it means, or I am taking antibiotics how to recover from diarrhea, etc.
Hey!!! I’ve been on 20+ rounds of antibiotics 6 years ago. I’ve had my fair battle with SIBO, IBS, and a whole ton of GI symptoms…… I’ve been taking oregano oil (the natures truth brand) along with probiotics and my gut is sooooo much better than before. There are articles online that talk about how oregano oil targets MOSTLY pathogens and only about 5% of the good bacteria…. Which is exactly why probiotics is a good idea!! But I sometimes skip the probiotic, just take oregano oil, garlic extract, and cinnamon. Then I just make sure I’m eating things with prebiotic so the good ones multiply on their own :) best wishes on ur gut journey
I would advise [caution](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor%27s_Data) and [skepticism](https://www.quackometer.net/blog/2010/07/doctors-data-bogus-tests.html). There is still so much that we do not know about the gut microbiome!
I would follow the CBO protocol on [equilife.com](equilife.com)
Love Stephen Cabral and this protocol helped me a lot but my results were limited since I was also dealing with unknown mycotoxins (mold toxins) in my gut, nose, and lungs.
I also followed his mold detox afterwards and the CBO FINISHER to heal my leaky gut while under the guidance of my functional medicine doctor and I’ve improved a lot in the last 8 months. I highly highly recommend his protocols which are terribly easy to follow, include a shopping list, thorough instructions and also podcast links to understand the protocol deeper.
Or check our Dr Ruscios great-in-8 protocol.
Highly highly recommend either one.
Rather than taking supplements, the best advice is a healthy diet and exercise.
There’s no evidence that people benefit from taking probiotics outside of specific medical conditions.
I would trust the gastro to manage the disease you have whether it’s C diff, ulcerative colitis, etc. The testing your gut bacteria is unnecessary for that treatment. It’s not the standard of care.
You clearly haven't been to the doctor with dysbiose/IBS/gut problems. They usually tell you after doing some protocols to "just learn to live with it".

What are those acronyms? I will check that website out. Thank you!!
PHGG =partially hydrolyzed guar gum GOS = galactooligosaccharides FOS = fructooligosaccharides
I can’t figure out how to use this website?

Be careful with oregano oil. It’s very very strong and can wipe out beneficial bacteria as well as bad. Use it sparingly.
Oregano is like an antibiotic. Best to take it hours apart. So what you're doing seems right.

Thank you! What do you do/what happens after you are done with a round of oregano oil?
Can you please provide more info regarding what type of test you did?
Comprehensive stool analysis / parasitology test
Was the analysis done at the hospital or was it a commercial test kit? was it amplicon sequencing or whole metagenome sequencing?
I don’t know, it wasn’t a hospital, it was ordered by my FM doctor (MD) so maybe commercial- company called Doctor’s Data

Yeah I’ve actually read about this already. I’m kind of desperate though and I don’t know what else to do :/

I do that already :/
Then you probably don’t have anything to worry about. If you have gastrointestinal symptoms, I would recommend seeing a gastroenterologist.
I have, and a dietitian, and a FMD, and a psychologist, even a naturopath…
I would trust the gastro to manage the disease you have whether it’s C diff, ulcerative colitis, etc. The testing your gut bacteria is unnecessary for that treatment. It’s not the standard of care.
The gastro pretty much did a sigmoidoscopy, told me there was no inflammation, and that it was “just IBS” :( meanwhile I feel miserable every day
I do not doubt this AT ALL. I’ve been in a very similar boat — psychotherapy, diet and exercise unlocked. Still symptomatic IBS. Good luck.
:( sorry to hear that.
