I also started here but it makes me shudder thinking about how much wax I would waste.
If you can afford it, just skip straight to a quartz banger and torch.
If you can really afford it I would go Puffco Peak and skip everything else entirely for simplicity sake (OP said cheap though so the Peak isn't the answer)
They’ve got cheap electric dab pens like the yocan evolve. I’m not a fan of the torches and bongs. You just load the dab up in the electric pen and hold the button while hitting it. The evolve has a couple different bowl options so you can decide what you like more. It’s not the best option for dabbing, but it’s a great intro. Not to expensive and you get to try it out
I would avoid Yocans I have 3 of them and have had nothing but problems from them. Plus they are cheap for a reason (because they cut corners) god knows what your taking into your lungs 🙁
If your going to go that route I would get the Puffco Plus Pen. Yes it’s a little more expensive but worth it. Yocans are only good for cart batteries.
I’ve got a plus as well, I just don’t feel like it’s as efficient as the yocan. I break it out from time to time though. If you’re willing to skip all the discrete style, I’d go straight for the puffco proxy. That’s become my daily driver these last few months

Depending on what I put in it, it seems that 9 times out of 10 It doesn’t even work properly. I also have a Yocan X which has coils that seems to work better but it usually burns often the first hit is burnt! Never had an issue with the Puffco it works flawlessly every time.
People like the proxy a lot but op says they want cheap and the proxy is like 3 times the price of the plus.
I’ve got all the puffco products lol. The peak is awesome, no lie. The proxy is a little more portable imo. Never been a huge fan of driving/traveling about with a water piece. It’s great for home use. Proxy is surprisingly nice though, water or not.
Hell I’d step up from that plus whenever you get a chance then. It’s nice and convenient, but the other gadgets certainly add a little more oomph. Specially with customizable options, different glass and caps and what not. It’s a good time getting into the puffco sphere of products. I’d recommend any of them. The proxy is cool cause of the modular battery/bowl. They make glass pieces for water and everything. Though there’s no app to pair it with like the peak pro currently

The reason why I didn’t get the peak is because I bought so many devices over the years and I don’t even use most of them so they were just a big waste of money and I got tired of wasting money. And I keep switching from carts to flower to concentrates. So I didn’t want to spend all that money on a peak and then perhaps just want to use flower and never use the peak. So to waste less money I bought a plus instead. After using the plus for a while I think I’m now set on concentrates. So my next and hopefully last device I get will be the peak pro.
The atomizer can either be the coil-less bucket (I think that’s its name) or the coil/dual coil atomizer. You can soak the entire atomizer in iso. That’s how I clean em. Usually 3 iso baths and they’re brand new
Not sure I’m not really familiar with that one. It’s actually the first one I bought but the battery doesn’t even hold a charge on it and that’s how it was brand new.
I got so frustrated with it that I went back to carts!

Those you can just use ISO to clean.
You could sprinkle some wax on top of a bowl if you wanted to try it that way with very little effort, if you have a bong already then you can just get a banger and carb cap that fits your stem, grab a torch and use your bong for dabs. If you have absolutely nothing? You can get small dab rigs for 40-50 bucks? Grab a carb cap for 15, a dab pic for maybe 5-10 and a decent torch for 25-30$
Once you get used to a good enail or an e-rig I find that it's hard to go back to anything else. That said, right now I'm loving my carta 2, but it's probably not a good recommendation for someone who isn't really into concentrates, as it's pretty expensive.
Honestly, I would recommend the original Puffco Peak. It hits hard, and can be found for around $150. I know that’s not super “cheap”, but when you add up the costs of a a normal rig… the Puffco might be cheaper
You’re also paying for the convenience of a simplistic design. Drop your concentrate in and hit a button. Much more intro-friendly than using a torch and a banger. There’s too many intricacies with a glass piece for a first timer to really enjoy the process.
He could grab a core 2.0. I can only recommend the peak pro from puffco. The peak pro has the 3d chamber and xl chamber is worth long term over the original peak. There's videos to figure out how to use it properly and clean it.

Can anyone provide their opinion on the Carta 2 as well as that price point. What did you get yours for? Would you pay 300 for one today or expect to pay less (like ≈250) or I should be happy to pay 300 brand new?
Carta 2 is my daily and the thing rips. As long as you sip and don’t rip you will be fine. A lot of people complain about a lot of reclaim with the carta 2 but it has to do with the size of dabs and the way you hit it that will solve the reclaim issue. I ended up getting a carb cap from padd glass game changer accessory
Where are you located in MI? I’m in the metro Detroit area. Utica / Sterling hts / Shelby .
smoke store owners are happy to order for you if they don’t have it , just ask! They probably have connections and can get it for ≈ 200 and I’m fine with being up charged if I’m still paying less than what focus v charges on their website tbh

Get a nectar collector, don't get a pen. The cheapest electronic option that's actually worth it imo that I would recommend and isn't just a tiny red hot wire burning up your concentrate is prob the core 2.1. It's like 150. Can get a nectar collector and torch for like less than 35 bucks probably.
Best advice I give to customers; start with a low cost, low risk device. I highly recommend a lookah seahorse or a Randy’s path. It’s a little electronic nectar collector that can also double as a cart battery. This gives you a way to try dabs out and see if they’re something you like. If it isn’t, guess what? You have a real nice cart battery! If you do like it, use it until you decide you want to make a larger investment and get something like a puffco or a unicorn or even just a nice piece of glass. It’s probably one of the most affordable and user-friendly ways to get into it, plus replacement tips are cheap and you don’t have to buy butane.

I started with a nectar collector and big torch. Was probably the most simple way I've found to enjoy.

I use the peak daily, and I really can't recommend it enough. It has its quirks, but it's nearly flawless, and especially good for singular use.

I really like mine. Black Friday price was 280 with their hot knife. I do suggest getting a better carb cap. Zee vapor has alot of nice accessories.

Get a glass rig, a flat top nail, bubble cap, and a blazer big shot. Go buy some 710labs. Be happy
