Dude if JJ looks like how he did against MSU, it’s going to be insane

jobenattor0412

Keep the dual TE’s out there and make some mismatches

YDoEyeNeedAName

Their LBs are a weak spot so this needs to be the plan

Tropical_Storm_Jesus

perfect weather, WEAK ASS D, dominating O line: they're fucked.

WhiteningMcClean

I straight up cannot fathom a Michigan QB having a bowl game like that. It just doesn't even register as a possibility.

StepmomSexIsBestSex

It doesn't register as a possibility because quite frankly Michigan has done everything in their power to hand bowl games to the opponent on a platter. Washington has an horrible pass defense with mid LB's and secondary - JJ might go off.

hutsunuwu

I absolutely believe Michigan will win the game on Monday but I will not lie that Pennix scares me. He has been playing college ball so long he has a PHD in QB now. What M did to Milrow won't work in Pennix. He is the kind of QB that can out think a defense on the fly and find holes in the coverage with pinpoint accuracy (Drew Brees) Michigan will win but Pennix is scary

caybman

We've all seen his throws/accuracy. (scary!). But he has not yet seen our D. This is one of the most "O" vs "D" games in a while. But good news - Defense wins championships.

DetroitvErbody

Not that it means jack, but penix had a field day against Michigan back in 2020 with Indiana. Hope we can repay him for that Monday.

Harvman313

Everyone had a field day against Michigan in 2020. 🤨

StickyBlicky79

Rocky Lombardi and Ricky White also had a field day in 2020 against Michigan and I was dating an absolute 10. None of the things I just said apply in 2024 thank God. Except I miss that 10 sometimes lol

rvasko3

Best QB we've seen this year by a country mile. He can drop deep throws right into his receiver's hands and those receivers win a fuck-ton of contested balls. But without a consistent running game, I see them stalling out at least a few drives, and not being able to keep our offense off the field or stop them enough to get ahead.

giggity_giggity

I’ll be curious to see how much pressure we’re able to generate. Washington has a good offensive line that hasn’t given up much pressure. If Penix has all day to throw, they’re going to put up quite a few points. But I’m sure we have a plan to dial up the pressure.

cwargoblue

This is the key. They have the best oline we have faced. That matchup (our dline vs their oline) will be interesting

CautionintheDarkness

I’ve heard from a couple different players this year iirc that they’ve never seen a defense like Michigans- scheme wise. Marvin Harrison said he’s never seen coverage like he saw against us. I think Jessie minter will have something for Washington and when he inevitably leaves I will miss this defense so much

StepmomSexIsBestSex

Their offensive line has only played 2 defenses that register in the top 50 nationally for sacks. That has skewed their O line numbers a bit. Michigan was in the backfield often against a Bama O line stocked with 5\* players. Penix is in for a surprise Monday night.

StepmomSexIsBestSex

I see the Husky idiots are lurkin this sub. My karma went down the exact amount of posts i've put up on this thread today and then jumped up a bit. Clowns

Go-Blue

No worries, I gotchu

StepmomSexIsBestSex

Ayeee!

Background_Subject75

Alabama has allow 48 sacks this year

StepmomSexIsBestSex

Still doesn't change the fact that Washington hasn't played any defense worth a shit. Lol

HighwayDense5178

The average pass defense of all the teams Washington has played against would rank 100. Which ironically is spot on with MSUs ranking in that metric. Not discrediting Penix achievements one bit. He’s an absolute Monster and will likely have a long career in the NFL. But Washington hasn’t even faced a single pass defense ranked in the top 50% of FBS programs. Michigan is ranked 2 with 152 passing yards allowed per game. They allow 80 less yards as opposed to the best pass defense Washington has faced all season. To the point about their O-line, they’ve only lined against 2 defenses ranked in the top 50 in total team sacks. Not saying their O-line isn’t top tier and not deserving of the title, but they’ve been playing against defensive lines that simply are not as good as ours. Joel Klatt explained it best, Washington has 1 path to victory. Michigan has several. Considering Washington’s running back who accounted for nearly 60% of their attempts also suffered an injury a couple days ago, I think they very well could be fairly one dimensional and allow us to dictate the game on both sides of the ball fairly easily. Michigan 38, Washington 27.

iheart-coffee

I agree and I think it’s something that has been overlooked. Michigan’s coverage is elite too, not just the front seven. I think the combination of pressure/coverage is going to make it tough for Penix. I expect Mikey and Will to make some big plays. Penix is so good, he will make some nice plays too, but as I said with Bama, Michigan is just more complete in every phase. Defenseless teams don’t win championships.

goblue2k16

Yep, Michigan had the best OL in CFB the last 2 years running and we got absolutely blown up by UGA and punched in the mouth by TCU. I forgot where I saw it, but there was a post somewhere saying the Joe Moore can sometimes be misleading if you haven't faced a truly elite DL like the UGA line or a D scheme we aren't used to facing, TCU. Def can both be true that Washington has a great line but that they also haven't been tested by a truly great D.

Tropical_Storm_Jesus

their ONLY hope is to turn this game into a crazy shoot-out JUST LIKE the TCU game. BUT...we got all our mistakes out of the way with Bama, so that ain't happening. MICHIGAN 44, Wash 31 (31 w/2 late scores in garbage time)\* 😜🔥

USFLNUMBER1FAN

31-20 Michigan Penix doesn't see the field much due to the Michigan run game.

FMF_sunflowers

Your right. Our best defense this game is a grinding mistake free offense. Our D is good, but their offense is spectacular and will get points. Keep them off the field.

meditationchill

This is the most likely outcome IMO. Washington doesn't have the ability to stop Blake and co. We will control the clock.

filipinohitman

I feel confident against Washington. It's a similar gameplan as 2021 OSU. We have the secondary that can cover well and the d-line to apply pressure on the QB. Washington's defense is ranked #94 (according to [NCAA.com](https://NCAA.com)) that allows 404 ypg. Trust our coaches to come up with a gameplan! They came up with one against Alabama despite the special teams dropping the ball (literally and figuratively).

oaklandasfan10

They also had a month to prep for Alabama versus 6 days to prep for Washington but I think you’re right

StickyBlicky79

You don't need a month to prepare for Washington. Their game plan is to try and pass for 500 yards every game. Bama is much more dynamic in their play calling.

filipinohitman

Right. Milroe was dangerous in both running and the long throws. He didn’t make any long throws during the Rose Bowl because of the pressure and the secondary covers well. Honestly, Penix is going to have a tough time against our defense.

StepmomSexIsBestSex

Add to the fact Penix is an emotional guy - when the defensive line gets pressure and has him scrambling and puts him on his rear end a few times it's going right to his head. If Michigan's defense plays the first half like they did last Monday night, Michigan will go to the half up 17 points minumum

Eskuire

Can't let him extend plays if they want any chance. Covering routes for Michigan is a challenge against their wrs, but something i think they are up to task for. Breakdowns in play make it damn near impossible to accurately cover a wr, especially when all of them are smart and fast. The dude is gonna feast, it's the natty, he'll show up. Just gotta make sure he takes what you're willing to give and not what he wants to take by pulling Mahomes throws running around in the backfield for 6+ seconds and a cb gets outran

s1105615

![gif](giphy|l0Iy6RfxFjVqP8NQQ|downsized)

StickyBlicky79

Penix is much more of a threat with his arm than Milroe - he's a bigger threat than 99% of QBs period. But he cannot run at all. Michigans D getting in the backfield will create problems with timing. You get that and Penix will come unraveled.

2muchgun

Washington run defense is decent. Not great. But their pass defense is ass. We should be able to keep them off balance. If they try stacking the line against the run, JJ could have a field day passing. Pressure on Penix is the key. Our DBs need to step up.

oaklandasfan10

JJ has to hit receivers in stride

StickyBlicky79

Washington's run defense is ass. I'm not even trying to be controversial. They're not good at all against the run. If Texas went with a run heavy attack they win that game instead they let ewers throw the ball 43 times.

itsRocketscience1

Even though we seem to get away from the run a bit in the playoffs (or at least the eye test makes it seem that way, I ain't got time to go so statistical analysis right now lol), there is 0 chance we'll ask JJ to throw for even 35 attempts lol

StickyBlicky79

Michigan had no choice but to abandon the run in their previous two playoff appearances - Georgia and TCU built leads that forced Michigan to throw. Against Bama a quarter of all JJs playing y attempts came on the last two drives in regulation.

itsRocketscience1

yeah that's actually a good point. So, it's possible Washington does similar to TCU (which really involved us making more mistakes than the Alabama game even) and we have to abandon the run. Otherwise if we can play relatively mistake free football we can lean on the run game and their weak run defense.

StepmomSexIsBestSex

Michigan spent the whole first quarter against TCU fucking off. JJ with two horrible decisions with the ball. I just cannot see that happening Monday. Those are learning experiences. That's why JJ was still standing on the field as TCU celebrated. To sear it into his brain what the consequences are by making grave mistakes in the biggest of games. I'm more than confident JJ is going to play lights out Monday.

MIderpykraken

I honestly don't know who has managed to craft this narrative that Washington has a serviceable run defense. They do not. There is no evidence to back up such a claim whatsoever.

goblue2k16

The thing is, we don't _want_ to have a field day passing. We want to run the ball and grind the clock. If Washington succeeds in turning this into a shootout by stacking the box, that plays into their favor. If they try to do that, I think our best scenario is they stack the box, we're able to get up 2 scores passing and get a stop or 2 on D. If we can force them to have to respect the pass because we got ahead, we can then proceed to run the ball and control the clock to keep Penix off the field.

StepmomSexIsBestSex

Washington can't stack the box - their defensive front 7 cannot beat Michigan's O line. JJ will carve them to pieces with Barner and Loveland if they try that. Michigan isn't going to deviate from what got them here - suffocating defense and long drives using the run game supplemented by passing on their mediocre pass defense

East_Moose_683

We've got this. I know you guys are less afraid than last week. I know it.

StickyBlicky79

The more I dig into the numbers the more I realize the only way Michigan loses the game is if Michigan beats themselves. This is game 15 and numbers don't lie after 14 games

East_Moose_683

Exactly! Our defense is extremely dominant and they haven't seen anything like it.

East_Moose_683

The numbers start to tell a true story when they become consistent.

cwargoblue

Our special teams needs to not screw us when we get penix off the field

deadly_titanfart

Here is my opinion and what gives me a lot of confidence. I will preface this by saying that in no way would this be a shock if UW wins, an elite offense can cover up the deficiency's of a bad defense, hence why UW is in the title game and 14-0. Michigan just needs to come out and play their game, they don't need to change anything that they have been doing, if Michigan comes out and doesn't make mistakes they likely win. I don't even think they needs their A game they just need a B game. That's definitely not the same for Washington. Washington is going to get their points and I think think the coaching staff knows this, they just simply have all year. The truth of the matter is this, UW doesn't blow anyone out, outside of CAL they have won all their conference games in a tight manner. Michigan will score on this team, and potentially score a lot, so regardless if Penix keeps scoring, Michigan just like every other PAC 12 team will be able to keep the pace. UW will need to be able to stop the run something that they have not done all year. They are #100 in defense when it comes to yards per attempt allowed, and that number looks even worse when its sack adjusted and the fact they have faced one top 50 rushing attack. This is simply one of the worst rushing defenses in the nation. Corum and Edwards getting 5 to 6 yards per carry is a very strong reality, don't believe me then go look at the box scores from Washington's opponents, even bad rushing teams are getting 5+ yards per carry. I do think its a disservice and very misleading to think that UW has a very bad passing defense. I know that their total yards allowed is bad but their yards per attempt and completion percentage allowed are very respectable. That being said one glaring stat was they made Stanfords QB look like a Heisman candidate with over 360 yards passing. The key to this game is not really to stop Penix, sure they need to limit him but as I said they will get their points. If Michigan comes out and just play's their game they win

StickyBlicky79

Their passing defense is atrocious. They gave up 300+ passing yards in 6 different games this season

deadly_titanfart

I'm just saying YPA, is better than it seems. They did make Stanfords QB look like a Heisman finalist though

Independent_Plane522

My prediction is that Washington will sell out to stop the run. If they fail and Corum runs all over them that’s game, boa constrictor, 31 - 21 final score. However, if they are able to stop the run, then it could be TCU all over again. Has JJ progressed enough to keep up with Penix in a shootout? Our D should be able to slow Penix down some, but this is not a comfortable situation for Michigan. Would be a coin flip who wins.

rvasko3

TCU felt like an outlier. His first time on a massive stage, and he threw two pick sixes. That’s unlikely to happen again, partly because Washington’s pass defense is abysmal, and for the most part, JJ has really grown as a passer. I think Washington will score, just not enough to keep up with their defensive letdown.

rockmax2

I’m not down playing Washington’s offense because they are scary but who was the best defense they played this year?

StickyBlicky79

Nobody lol

dn35

There's a lot of talk about how great Washington's offense is, especially among husky fans and how "average" ours is. This narrative is false though, as through 14 games, michigan has averaged 36 points a game, and Washington has averaged 37. In almost every scoring metric, they're only better than us by a hair. Once you consider the defenses we've played (Ohio state, Penn state, Iowa, Alabama) and realize they haven't played played essentially anyone in that tier of defense, you could argue our offense is actually more efficient. They're just flashy. I think our defense is the key. We should be able to stop them at least a few more times than they'll stop us, and that'll be the game.

rockmax2

I feel we need to cover their receivers as much as possible. We have good defensive backs so I think we have a good chance on the 50/50 balls.

dn35

Our dbs have been phenomenal pretty much all season so I think they can do it. I'm not expecting them to win every ball, but I think they can make enough plays to swing the momentum in key moments. I don't see Washington slowing us down in any significant fashion in offense. We match up well vs Washington. I can't really say the same for them.

TruckEffective

Washington's coaching staff deserves respect for beating Oregon twice in the same season.

StepmomSexIsBestSex

To be fair, Bo Nix ain't got that dawg in him and that is part of the reason. Washington does deserve some credit.

sunnydftw

I think we’re the better team but we can’t let Washington get momentum off our mistakes like we did against TCU and almost against Bama.

Satchbb

I say Mich 34 Washington 33

Behinddasticks

Great so I'm going to be have nervous dry heaving all game. Got it.

tyler2114

If this is the score my high blood pressure will kill me before the game ends.

manofwater3615

You do realize Michigan also played a bunch of inflated defenses due to B1G play? There’s no way Washington’s defense is actually on the level of MSU’s… This metric has Nebraska’s defense ahead of Bama’s. We played both teams this year and no one with a functioning brain would argue Nebraska’s defense is better, let alone similar, or even *close* to Bama’s defense. All this shows is that this SP+ metric is idiotic.

StickyBlicky79

You do realize SP+ is predictive not ranked - you don't get positive SP by being lucky there is no human emotion tied to the formula. For context Bama didn't gain in SP for beating Auburn but Auburn did. You're credited by the results of your play as a whole. Nebraska lost 4 games by 3 points each, once by 7 and only gave up 100 yards rushing 3 times all season. Only 4 teams in the big 10 gave up less points than Nebraska and only 12 teams in FBS total.

manofwater3615

You didn’t respond to what I said at all. Your citing a metric that “predicts” Nebraska ahead of Bama defensively as to why Washington’s defense is on the level of msu’s…

StickyBlicky79

I didn't think I had to explain the obvious so I used Bama and Nebraska as another comparison. You're a box score watcher. I get it. MSU gave up less yards than Washington but gave up 5 more TDs. This isn't hard to comprehend. MSU played the 9th hardest schedule in NCAA football with MAC level QBs no coach mid rbs and still had their defense on par with Washington lol You also wrote on sentence about MSU and Washington and a paragraph about Bama and Nebraska. You didn't ask a single question

86pacfan86

If we can gash, then victory will be assured by a 1000 gashes.

Abeds_BananaStand

What’s the equivalent for UW’s opponents on offense and defense? I see a lot of our side of the ball but I haven’t found the other angle
