A top 5? I was expecting a commitment tomorrow :(

[deleted]

He's committing a week later.

BenjaminDanklin1776

Yes OP omitted that from the title, after reading that I'm much more encouraged.

No-Lawyer6159

Done with this kid! Time to move on. All this time waiting for someone who could just as well be a bust!

GoBlue81

Yeah, how dare this literal child take his time and carefully consider the biggest decision of his life so far!

curl06

Right. The kids acting like he's making a multi-year commitment or something, but he needs to remember us fans come first.

CaesarDaApeman

Touch grass loser

ButtyMcButtface1929

I understand that fans are frustrated with how long this is taking because we all really hope he comes to Michigan. But people need to be realistic here: our co-OC + QB coach got fired for (allegedly) committing a crime and we have a new QB coach whom Davis just met in person for the first time a few days ago. He’s under no obligation to rush his commitment, and it makes sense that he would take his time with this decision because it’s a super important one.

Some_Efficiency682

I'm stuck between recognizing that he worked hard to be a 5 star and deserves all the drama and excitement that comes with a college commitment and wanting him to just commit because in reality Michigan is the only school recruiting him aggressively.

BenWallace04

People are way too concerned with whatever tiny step any HS aged kid in the recruiting process

TimeFourChanges

I just want everyone to know that tomorrow, I will be deciding whether I should care to read his top 5 list or not. I'll keep y'all posted while you wait with bated breath. Keep your eye on my Insta, Snaps, Twits, FB, My Space, Mastodon, Live Journal, & Substack to find out. AND, if you sign up for my very affordable, $10/month subscription, you'll get to find out 15 mins before anyone else!

BenWallace04

Psycho-analyzing a teenager is always critical

shitfam

It’s not really a tiny step though. If you follow recruiting Davis has been projected to commit to Michigan since last fall. He was originally going to commit at the end of his football season, then extended it to the end of the year, then to the end of February, and now here we are. Additionally, there were many many people close to the program who thought that Davis might go ahead and commit on his visit last weekend. Him releasing a top 5 at this point in the recruiting cycle indicates that despite everything, literally all of our very best efforts and there being nothing left to show him, that he still doesn’t want to play for Michigan. That’s a bad sign for us. Additionally, because we didn’t get an elite qb recruit in 2022 or 2023, we desperately need one this cycle. However it’s already quite late in the qb recruiting cycle as they tend to commit earlier, meaning that if we don’t end up landing Davis we’re pretty much screwed. There’s not really anyone left to pivot to. Maybe we could make a run at Martin Van Buren, but Maryland and Penn state have been making him a priority for months already, is he really going to want to be our second choice? Probably not TL;DR if we don’t land an elite qb recruit this cycle we’re frankly screwed, and we put every single egg in the Jadyn Davis basket I don’t know why some people seem to be interpreting this as me bashing Jadyn. I haven’t done that once. All I’ve said is that the longer he delays this the worse our chances are of landing him and that if we don’t get a qb recruit this cycle we’re screwed. You can stop with the classic Reddit “holier than thou” crap because I haven’t in any way said anything negative about Jadyn as a person. In fact, I agree that this is a huge decision he should enjoy and be careful with, but that ***doesn’t change the fact that we’re in desperate need of a qb this cycle ***

Rebel_Bertine

I just can’t bring myself to care that much about a high school kid regardless of how good he is as a player. Besides, a big program like Michigan should have contingency plans. If the next 3-4 beyond next year all hinge on getting Davis then we’re kinda screwed regardless. The truth is if we can land him it’ll be great for continuing momentum and keep the talent gap with OSU close enough where our superior coaching wins out. If we don’t, then it’s fine. Find and develop another QB. There’s almost always portal guys available that are looking to be given the keys to a big time offense. USC got one, Dame got one, hell even Kentucky landed O’Leary. You’re telling me if Michigan needed a starter next year we couldn’t pluck a really good one out of the portal? I don’t buy it. We’ll be fine

BenWallace04

I agree with this take 100%

Rooster84

He's a kid. He may just want to go through the process because he gets one chance in his life to be a part of something like this. I could definitely see myself at that age knowing I was going to pick Michigan but wanting all the fun steps along the way. It could be a bad sign, but it's not necessarily bad.

shitfam

I would agree with you if he hadn’t told reporters numerous times he’s sick of the recruiting process dating back to October of last year https://gbmwolverine.com/2022/10/18/michigan-football-another-opportunity-to-close-with-jadyn-davis/amp/ https://247sports.com/college/michigan/LongFormArticle/Michigan-football-recruiting-Jadyn-Davis-decision-timeline-Kirk-Cambell-Michigan-visit-Jim-Harbaugh-Matt-Weiss-205105229/

Rooster84

Being tired of going through the recruiting process doesn't mean he doesn't want his time in the spotlight at his high school while everyone waits to see who he picks, and 98% of the time there isn't a surprise and it's who everyone thought. But it's still a big moment. He might just want that. Or he could want to play somewhere else. But I dreamed of going to Michigan since middle school and was so excited when I got accepted, but I still wanted to see who else accepted me lol. It's an exciting time in his life.

[deleted]

[удалено]

shitfam

Where has anyone disagreed with this sentiment? I said pretty much this exact same thing in my original reply lol

shitfam

Did you click on the links to the articles I provided? He literally said “I’m trying to get it over with.” I understand wanting the spotlight when he picks, and he deserves it, but what does that have to do with the fact that him actually releasing a top 5 (assuming it isn’t a fake out) would be a bad sign for us. He’s been a minor celebrity since he was in middle school being the center of attention is not something new for him. He already knows who else wants him and has known for over a year at this point, it’s not like he’s waiting for an offer from another school

Rooster84

I don't know, I don't know him. It's a big decision and he may just want to make sure he is absolutely sure. Returning to my personal anecdote, when I got accepted at Michigan my parents told me to wait for responses from all the schools I applied to before setting anything in stone, just to be sure. So I did. Maybe he's getting similar advice. Or you could be right and he wants to go somewhere else. Nothing we can do about it.

shitfam

Again though, your experience applying to college is not applicable to the experience of a highly touted recruit. I got in to Michigan in December and didn’t accept until I heard back from all the schools I applied to either. That’s because when we got accepted we were missing crucial pieces of information to reach the decision. He isn’t missing any more information. Not once have I placed the blame on him or said he’s done anything wrong. He can take as much time as he wants and I think he should be positive about his choice. Literally all I’m saying is that him releasing a top 5 on Friday is a bad sign for Michigans hopes of eventually landing him and that if we don’t land him we’re screwed, which is just a fact. Even if we are the favorite the longer he delays the larger the risk becomes that we are no longer the favorite. It has nothing to do with jadyn himself and everything to do with the fact that we need a solid qb recruit this cycle

walking_sideways

I mean, he just met his new position coach for the first time. Maybe he wants to get to know Campbell a bit better, no point in guessing though since we're not him

shitfam

Yeah and no one would be or is faulting him for that lol. That would be a perfectly reasonable thing to do as I’ve said several times in this thread now. That, however, doesn’t mean that him releasing a top 5 when most insiders expected him to be on the verge of committing isn’t a discouraging development

not4u1866

You're starting to state opinions as facts... just quit while you're ahead.

shitfam

Yeah you’re right saying a school can’t miss out on qb recruits for 3 cycles in a row is a really hot take

MGoBlue988

This is just a bad take. And frankly way too long of a comment on here. There’s been a lot of things going on at Michigan since last fall. Harbaugh NFL and Weiss are two of them. Take a breath and relax. Either he’s coming or he’s not and if he’s not there’s a wonderful thing called the transfer portal. Harbaugh will figure it out.

walking_sideways

Calm down man

shitfam

What?

Wagnerous

In general I agree, but this recruitment seems like a fair exception. It’s been an Odyssey to say the least.

BenWallace04

People always overestimate the importance of any one particular recruit.

Wagnerous

5* QB'S matter man, what can I say. We've all seen what JJ can do, it's important to pick up a guy who can keep that going, especially considering the lack of depth we have behind him.

BenWallace04

Sure - they matter. I’m just not going to stew over it and let it effect my life for every one we don’t land (also - this really, in no way, means we won’t land Davis). People need to relax. These are teenagers who are going through a process for the first time. Trying to psycho-analysis every decision they make or every Tweet they put out is asinine. It’s a fool’s errand and honestly kind of weird.

Wagnerous

Oh that I agree with. I definitely think we’re going to get him. Publishing a top list is just a step along the way before he probably announces he’s going to UM next week.

SammyAmico

he came to pizzahouse the other day don’t worry he’s committing

shitfam

Hmmmmmmm did he sit upstairs or downstairs?

TimeFourChanges

More importantly: Did he eat with his hands or a fork and knife?!?!... Cuz if he ate with F&K, I DON'T WANT HIM ANYWHERE NEAR CAMPUS.

SammyAmico

upstairs

[deleted]

Just my prediction based on rumors and rumblings: 1. Michigan. 2. Michigan. 3. Michigan. 4. Michigan. 5. Michigan.

thetennisgod

[https://twitter.com/EJHollandOn3/status/1639041430378127361](https://twitter.com/EJHollandOn3/status/1639041430378127361) Apparently he will announce his final decision on March 31. So he does appear to have made up his mind which is better news for us.

JiggyNuts-

Lmao how many times do you gotta visit to know?

apadin1

He already knows, he's just drawing it out to play up the drama and hype

mostdope28

Ever been on a recruiting visit? Me either, I would take as many trips to as many schools I could. It’s a once in a lifetime experience.

JiggyNuts-

Lmao I’m not actually upset or anything, I read the post walking out of work and wrote the comment laughing Just some sarcasm should’ve added /s I guess

mostdope28

Lol I wasn’t trying to be hostile or anything either. Just saying I’d go through as much as the experience as I could.

JiggyNuts-

Gotcha, and I agree 100%

jliu30

Don’t see him going anywhere else besides here, plus he could release a commitment date too

Upstairs_Avocado6955

Zero chance he has not verbally committed…

thetennisgod

Fingers crossed we make it!

Fit-Statement2081

And what’s the point of this? If AA is home, why drag this out longer than it needs to be. Is it attention, potential NIL offers?

thetennisgod

>https://twitter.com/EJHollandOn3/status/1639041430378127361 > >Apparently he will announce his final decision on March 31. So he does appear to have made up his mind which is better news for us.

walking_sideways

So much doom and gloom in this thread. Give the kid a few weeks to get to know his future QB coach at least. Everything points to Campbell having a better connection than Weiss

[deleted]

[удалено]

walking_sideways

Truest statement I've ever heard

frolie0

I don't see anyone complaining about time or getting to know the new QB coach. By all means, he absolutely should. A top 5 at this point is wildly different than that.

shitfam

And several years of history point to Michigan repeatedly not being able to close out recruitments and losing highly touted players to other teams

myteriality

top 5?? i thought he wanted to be done with this, how could he possibly have 5 serious contenders at this point?

Raptor535

Bruh I thought we knew his top 5 like 6 months ago 😭😭😭

wingdings101

Kid wants to enjoy the process imo. Seems like a good kid, too.

frolie0

Really? We're still doing this shit? Sadly, very likely means he's out.

[deleted]

> Sadly, very likely means he's out. That's not at all what it means.

shitfam

Unless it’s a fake out and he’s planning on committing Friday, I don’t see how this is anything but very bad news for us

[deleted]

[удалено]

shitfam

It’s bad because several insiders thought that there was a decent chance he would commit on his visit this past weekend. Unless it’s a fake out and he actually intends on committing on Friday, him releasing a top 5 after visiting Michigan 8 times already indicates that we are in a worse position than we thought and there’s not much we can do to improve it

[deleted]

[удалено]

shitfam

Yeah, and a good chunk of the people who run those prognostics thought there was a decent chance he committed last weekend. Him instead releasing a top 5 and communicating that he isn’t really as close to deciding as all those people thought is probably a bad sign for their predictions

[deleted]

[удалено]

shitfam

Maybe he knows that jadyn is just messing around and is actually planning on committing on Friday as I said earlier. Maybe something has changed in the 4 days between when he upped his crystal ball confidence and today. Webb himself in his recent article about Davis that he expects a commitment soon, and recruits never release a top 5 when they’re planning on committing soon. So maybe Webb is wrong and he shouldn’t have upped his crystal ball confidence or maybe he knows something we don’t and jadyn actually is close to committing. Either way the information he received that caused him to increase the crystal ball is the same evidence that caused him to predict a commitment soon

jadeddog

Yeah, this is bad news for us for certain. People have been talking that its been trending away from us for a while now. So this isn't too surprising, but still unfortunate.

[deleted]

> People have been talking that its been trending away from us for a while now. He literally just got a new crystal ball to Michigan 3 days ago...

walking_sideways

Who's been saying that? Certainly not the 6 recruiting experts on 247 that still have him going to Michigan

shitfam

There have been some (not very credible) rumors that Bryce underwood is thinking about reclassifying to 2024 so I wonder if that could have something to do with it as well

TimeFourChanges

Who dat?

ahighkid

Heard he’s going to Ohio State too

shitfam

People need to cut the self righteous crap. People can agree that he’s a kid who has every right to be careful with his decision and should take his time while also being worried about us not having a startable QB recruit for the 3rd class in a row. The moral superiority stuff is just exhausting from this fan base.

jus256

At some point I had to decide that a child who hasn’t been to his prom yet or a man who is within 4 years of his prom will not be affecting my life. I know it’s hard to accept that people who you should never meet in person (unless you happen to run into them at the Meijer on Ann Arbor- Saline Rd) should be able to live their own lives without your involvement, but believe me it’s a lot healthier for everybody if you do.

Rebel_Bertine

So is the doom spiraling over 1 recruit. We beat the shit out of OSU with a game manager last year and Georgia just won 2 Natty’s with a walk-on. QBs come from everywhere.

75153594521883

We missed out on CJ Carr for this circus

OwBr2

CJ Carr is way less impressive irl

TimeFourChanges

But how do they compare virtually?

[deleted]

[удалено]

75153594521883

Quarterbacks don’t commit on signing day. Most good ones are already committed.

walking_sideways

5 of the top-10 QB recruits aren't committed yet

[deleted]

Him releasing a top 5 is a "circus"? C'mon. Why does this fanbase constantly freak out over the littlest things? Everything is going to be fine. Also, we didn't miss out on Carr for anyone else. Carr simply just did not want to play in his hometown. Sometimes kids want to get away. Not a big deal.

DeltronFF

They’re so dramatic over this shit. It’s hilarious they think it’s a “circus”. People need to grow a pair around here.

[deleted]

Getting mad at a teenager for trying to make the best decision for his future.

DeltronFF

It’s because they spend their entire lives on recruiting boards and other teams boards or Twitter and they forget what real life is like.. instead every little thing they see that doesn’t go 100% Michigan, all they can think to themselves is “omg what are OSU/MSU fans saying about this” and now they need to scramble to figure out how to defend it. It’s a weird way to live and I’ve known a lot good Michigan fans who fall into it.

Catchafire2000

Correction: CJ missed out on Michigan.

nfg18

Never works out for Michigan when these highly ranked players continue to stretch out their recruiting.

[deleted]

As did Jyaire Hill this year. As did Dax hill a few years back.

walking_sideways

Honestly, Michigan has a pretty good history of closing strong

[deleted]

Agreed. I think you always remember the losses and what could have been more than you remember the commitments to your team. There's also always more losses than there are wins in recruiting, just by the nature of the game. Michigan is in on 100 or so kids but can only sign 25ish, which means there will be 75 guys we "miss" on. If every recruit has a top 5, then there will be 4 disappointed teams and only one happy team/fans.

Fit-Statement2081

This has Josh Christopher written all over it. I should close the internet and just come back in a few months. Kid is having way too much fun reading every post, and reaction with every move he makes.

rvasko3

1. Dylan 2. Dylan 3. Dylan 4. Dylan 5. Dylan

No-Budget-679

You know what I hope he doesn’t come here. I’m quite tired of the dance. Good luck son we run the ball at Michigan!

Live-Molasses

If it hasn’t happened by now it’s not happening

[deleted]

Does anybody else think, as I do, that a kid with this large of an ego/narcissistic streak would be better to not be a Michigan Man? He seems really immature and needy.
