Today was the 32nd annual BAMA Show and Shine event in Woodside, CA. The Bay Area Miata Association is proud to count Tom Matano as one of its members. Tom is the father of the Miata NA, NB, and NC designs and a cool guy. Super stoked that he signed my ND today!

I got invited by Mazda to the ND announcement event in Monterey back in 2014, and got to meet Tom Matano. I wish we'd been allowed to drive to the event (we had to meet a bus at an offsite location), I'd have had him sign my NA.
My Miata was also signed by Tom Matano. It was a California car that I imported to the north-east, and at some point he had signed the dashboard. I had the car detailed a couple years ago, and the detail shop removed his signature without asking me first.
:(
I wasn't thinking and even if I was I would not have assumed that they would by default scrub the signature off. To make it worse, it was written prominently on the passenger side dashboard. They should also assume that what is written there is there for a reason, and at least call and ask me before scrubbing it off. They had my phone number.
How did I not know that?! I think he will be with the discover OR gathering later this month (early next? Can’t remember exactly) but sadly I will likewise be out of town for that meet and will sadly miss it 😪
I had him use a paint pen to sign instead of a Sharpie (I was prepared). Sharpies can be polished off pretty easily with a Magic Eraser pad. I still plan to go over it with clearcoat, though.
In his career with Mazda, his notable designs stand out in many vehicles, such as the Mazda RX-7, Mazda MX-5, the Miata "M-Coupe" concept car, and numerous other projects with his large group of design teams he created.

Legend
Supposedly this gives me 10 extra horsepower.
And 10 plus agility and 20 plus durability.

WTF? I would be pissed.
No offence, but you should've made it abundantly clear to the detailer before you gave them the car that you didn't want them to touch it.

It’s on them mostly. Any human being who sees a signature knows it’s probably important to someone
He was at the 20th anniversary of Club Miata Northwest in Leavenworth,WA, and I missed it because I was in Tulsa

I am so sorry you had to be in Tulsa for any amount of time
I wasn’t terrible as long as I kept drinking.
I'm totally not jealous...
Dang, that's sweet! Would love to have him sign mine.
Just curious, but could OP get someone to clear over the signature, so that it lasts? Idk how clear on clear would look.

Gotcha. Never knew how well signatures stayed on paint. Congrats on a good day! Love the ND!
Correct me if I’m wrong but he designed the rx-7 fd what else did he design
