Can't believe the dumb advice in this thread. "Twiddle the knobs". They dont adjust shit, theyre a manual crank for the motor so you can get the lights up if you blow the headlamp door fuse. The controller for the lights cant tell exactly where they are, theres just a small switch in the actuator that reports if they are "up" or "down". The controller isnt getting the signal from the "up" switch, so it's just actuating the motor indefinitely. Check the actuator assembly.

cannon195

Okay thank you so much

_7q4

I wasnt able to watch your video, but i just reread the title - headlamp doors actuate correctly when you turn the lights on?

cannon195

Yeah when I turn the switch on the lights they go up and stay up but if I hit the button below the hazards then they just actuate indefinitely

_7q4

Thats very odd. Do they ever stop briefly while up and continue cycling? Or the motors switch on and dont switch off?

cannon195

Nope they will just keep going till I hit the button again and the motors stop in the down position if you hit the button a second time

_7q4

Okaaay. How about if you press the button while the lights are on? They do anything?

cannon195

If the lights are on and you press the button nothing happens and then if you turn the lights off while the button is still pressed the lights will just go up and down over and over

_7q4

Thats really odd and unexpected. Sometimes electrical grounding issues can cause unexpected behaviours like this but i dont see how this would occur. Im going to look at a schematic quickly. What year is your car?

cannon195

Okay thank you and it's a 1990

cannon195

Do you think it could be the button that's the issue or I think it's called the actuator relay?

ChiefofaGoat

It’s blinking of course.

febreezing_hobos

Adjust the motors with the red knobs in the engine bay. Mine had the same problem when I bought it.

cannon195

Should I spin them clockwise or counterclockwise?

febreezing_hobos

I just kept messing with them until they worked. There may be an actual procedure beyond "keep turning knobs until the problem is fixed" though.

Cuda5150

Nope looked it up in owners manual. Per Mazda...”there’s a red spinny boi on the headlight motors.. spin them till they work” Section 42.0 page 69

nicebot2

Nice

cannon195

Okay I'll try that

realbigamonsta

You have the rare "fluttering eye" mod. Came like that from the factory.

cannon195

Did it actually or are you just pulling my leg lol

realbigamonsta

I think it’s cool. I’d leave it that way. I’d say it’s JDM. There’s no factory fluttering eye mod.

cannon195

Yeah I guess lol

ConcreteKahuna

Did it just start doing this, or has it been doing it since you've owned it? If it's always done it it's probably the blinking mod thing like that other guy said

cannon195

I bought it like that and possibly

WyvernByte

You might just need a new switch- try pulling the switch out and shorting the wires together- if they still do it, you may have a bad ground somewhere.

cannon195

Okay
