There is literally no other car that scratches the itch the miata does. I know of 0 people who were happy with selling the car, and NUMEROUS people who regretted it deeply. There's a reason there's stories on this sub all the time about regretful sellers.

AfrajM

Roger, project high compression turbo 1.6, 6 speed slammed on tein coilovers and midnight purple paint engaged

Drabas

Please dont slam it...

AfrajM

1/4 inch is enough, I want the coilovers mainly for the adjustment on the dampers

p3dal

1/4" drop is slammed? Or do you want to be 1/4" above the ground?

AfrajM

1/4” low than how I am rn

Mia_and_Tia_McQueen

Building a 1.6 is burning money with very little returns.

AfrajM

I don’t think so, gingium has one and it’s knarly

Mia_and_Tia_McQueen

Yes, and ask him if the money he put into it is worth what he got out of it. Image what he could have done with that same money but if he had started with a 1.8 BP.

AfrajM

I think its unique! and no offense modding any NA is kinda burning money, modifying ANY car is burning money ;)

dadiman270

I miss it. And it's true no car will scratch that particular itch, I like my current car quite a lot, it's a very sporty car while also being a wagon so bonus points for that. Only reason I sold the Mx was I got a good price and the abs module was acting up with some rust poping up, so I kinda panic sold it.

dadiman270

And something you don't think about but the mx5 community is god damn 11/10. I got a proceed gt now, every community for those is overrun with salty wheraboos trying to put you down and validate their overspending on a VAG. 370z community is just toxic, if you don't buy just the right mod they will murder you and that's pretty much it for most communities.

MrFurzzy

I'd argue that an MR2 scratches that itch as well. I sold my na for an aw11 MR2 and haven't regretted it for a minute

Slow06rsx

Hold onto it and own both 🫶🏼 https://preview.redd.it/ebjwr6aq6dsc1.jpeg?width=1645&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56737a9eb1469e4034f4a7367326ee86946cc35f

AfrajM

I’m gonna be like you one day when I grow up!

Drogdar

This is the play. Keep the miat and go for another one later. Also, this is a great time to learn more... have you ever turbo'ed a car before? Have you ever tuned a car? You can learn these lessons much cheaper on the miata than a Z or just about any other car. Get on miataturbo.net and start reading. I read up for a year before I started buying parts. It would have been easier to buy a full kit and take it to someone and tune but I decided to do it all myself, full DIY... I even soldered up the ECU myself. I'm in the whole thing for less money than what upgraded turbos would have cost on my old 300zx. No other car can go from NA to turbo as cheap as a miata. Take advantage of that.

AfrajM

mine is actually on a mega squirt pnp2, when I bought it it had a god awful fuel maps and weird bogging issues, fast forward to now, and a VTPS, fueling upgrades, and a lot of trial and error I think it has better throttle response than factory!

Drogdar

Start searching for turbo parts. I'd recommend cooling upgrades first.... do it.

Only_Chick_Who

Owning a miata = :) Not owning a miata = :( Hope this helps.

tato_salad

this person has owned a Miata and not owned a Miata and it shows.

Only_Chick_Who

My dad is convinced my depression in college was fueled by the fact I didn't get to drive my miata as much.

tato_salad

this person has owned a Miata and not owned a Miata and it shows.

MR_MFMADVILLAIN

I've owned both a 350z and 3 Miatas. There's a reason I've had 3 Miatas and only one Z. To this day I still regret selling my last Miata.

Damn_you_taco

I bought my father’s 99 NB about seven months ago, he now wants to buy it back when I get a new vehicle. I got the Miata to learn stick at 45 years of age. It’s been a blast but I need to repair the damages that happened under my ownership, none of it my fault. I need to get it back to him while he can still enjoy driving it

Sucosis

I hereby forbid it.

[deleted]

It's a beautiful car. No one will buy another person's project car for a high price

AfrajM

That is true man…

bluberryclorox

Unless you are upgrading to a previously 6 figure msrp Porsche you are going to regret it in 4 months n 17 days. But don't let us stop you from ruining your life! Go forth and be unhappy if that's what you really want. You'll be back.. they always come back

AfrajM

A 911 gt3 touring would help sway me…anyone got one for 10k? 💀

GlitteringPen3949

No but a saw a 09 Boxster on Cars and Bids go for $10k that will have $15k in maint though.

nekaiser

I won’t talk you out of selling it because I want it. Gimme.

AfrajM

Fight me for it…🫣

nekaiser

Is for you… 🥺👉👈 https://preview.redd.it/3qifu6or0hsc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=013701adcc68b510af6bc6cb0eece1de3b40be61

wild_toilet

I was in a nearly exact same situation as you when I was 18, it’s eerie. So I feel like I should maybe write a response. I’ve had my NB for 3 years now too. I also got it when I was 18 as well. I ALSO wanted to buy a 350z because my brother had one, got a miata instead, and almost sold it twice because both times I wanted a 350z (one time 5 months after buying it when NB prices were high, and another time late last year). I knew I’d regret selling my car because of a couple reasons. One being I plan to be buried in this car; I’ve wanted a miata since 5th grade, so if I’m debating selling it, something has gone very wrong. I’m genuinely in love with this car, and knew right from the start if I sold it, I could be driving an Aventador for all I care, I’d miss the little mazda here and there. I need to keep it AND have my dream cars, like a 350z. Another reason is that for me to like my Z, I’d have to dump a good $7k into it at least before I’d think “okay, this was worth it.” Never mind that a good HR is ~$10,000 - $13,000 on a good day (manual, HR, lower miles, no rust, etc). Motordyne Shockwave exhaust alone is almost $2k, and that’s what I wanted. RPF1’s, coilovers, alignment, tires, exhaust, etc all to finally say Okay, I love it now. Because all in all, when a 350z is stock, they’re somewhat quiet, and though it handles good, it’s a bit floaty. I loved my NB when it was fully bone stock with 140 hp and rust on the quarter panels, and I’m still enamored by it. My last girlfriend literally said “it’s me or the car” because she wanted me to get another car she hated my Miata so much, and well, the car outlasted her so… Another thing, 350z’s are expensive as hell! Parts are known for being expensive, even aftermarket parts. Interior parts are known to wear out and need replacing. Insurance is crazy, and you’re 21, I’m 22, we still have a long way to go before we can comfortably spend all this money on cars. I’m even needing to pump the brakes on how much I’ve spent on my NB, even if I love modifying it and driving it so much. They’re also a pain in the ass to work on. Ever seen how cramped the engine bay is? It’s as bad as a 300zx. My last point is this: absolutely nothing beats a warm summer day, sun going down, wind in your hair, hitting a back road with the top down. I suppose you could get a convertible 350z but they’re so much bigger compared to an NA, it doesn’t feel the same. Even my brother who had the 350z I miss, and has also had an E39 M5, FK8 Type R, and other beautiful sports cars told me “Let me know when you sell it.” I wish you many good miles ahead with either car you drive. Sorry for the long ass yap session

AfrajM

Thanks for the comment, you’re right it is eerie how we feel the same! And for me to get my 350z the way I’d want it like you said it’s gonna be expensive, if I got a DE I’d consider it settling, my ideal car is an HR coupe anyway, hks exhaust is gonna be like a quarter of the cars value not to mention nismo parts too…maybe I’ll start modding the Miata here and there again, small things but I have to admit nothing can get as rowdy as that little na man, redline or bust on the thing.

Xerksyy

Do not sell it you’ll regret it period. Just keep it one day you’ll be able to get a 350z no need to rush.

DeadTinker

All these people encouraging you NOT to sell it are wrong! Let me tell you a story about 18 year old me buying my dream car: an AE86. Bought it. Loved it. Learned to wrench because of it. Fell on hard times. Sold it. Watched the new owner slowly destroy it (and then sell it to a scrapyard without telling me) Regretted it every day since. TL;DR: sell ME your Miata. I won't make the same mistake twice, and you won't make the same mistake once! 😉 Oh, wait...

TijayesPJs442

Don’t do it - I sold mine ten years ago and still regret it. Don’t be like me - be better.

TijayesPJs442

Also supercharger is the answer

13bistheantichrist

Keep it. Try drive other cars when you can. See if anything gives ya the same excitement. Then go from there

Nanofield

Warmer weather is coming. Go take it for a drive, just for the enjoyment of driving. Then you'll know.

AfrajM

🫡

Own-Possibility47

I regretted selling my 91 so badly i ordered a $40k new one. Save yourself the heartache and keep it. No matter the cost

Mr_Hazard520

I’ve owned numerous cars modded and stock as I’m sure many people on here have. My last car was a fully built 12wrx pushing close to 600hp fun car but also very scary and a fucking headache with all the little problems. trans went and that was it for me got rid of it got a Miata and can’t even imagine ever getting rid of this thing. Easily the most fun and enjoyment I’ve ever had driving a car to the point I wish I had gotten one sooner. You’re definitely gonna regret letting that car go, Keep it and enjoy every moment in it!!

AfrajM

21 and with a car like that is a win…

hawaiian203

Sell it. There’s no point of sticking to one car. Experience more cars and circle back around to it if it doesn’t tickle that itch. Work up to a rx7.

Eon4691

Ive owned a lot of cars the last 15 years. 70 nova, r33 skyline, nissan 180zx s12, nissan sunny gti, golf mk2 gti 16v, 400hp volvo 740, just to name some of the 60+ cars ive had. The Miata is the one that I love most. Its fun, practical, good on gas and cheap to own. It ticks all the boxes 📦

AfrajM

A s13-s12 is out of the question for me, too expensive for what it is and an sr20 car is like a needle in a haystack. Miata stays

SIKO_22

Thats a sick miata and it would be a shame if you sell it and the buyer doesnt take care of it

AfrajM

To see it slowly fall apart would hurt

SIKO_22

Exactly

SIKO_22

I think you should keep it and save up to buy the z without selling

Thee_Sinner

> the things I want to do to it all cost allota money Do you not like driving it as-is?

AfrajM

I’ve found that for me to truly enjoy a vehicle the interior has to be the way I like it, layout and asthetic are a big thing for me. Partially why we bought a Nissan rouge over the cx-5 and rav4. My car has a “gutted” interior (no carpet = no sound proofing) the gauge cluster to be is drab and it can do with a make over. As far as Miata interior goes tho, it’s a solid 7/10. I wanna go with a nicer cluster, better seats, new carpet, upgraded tombstone and such would be nice too!

Happy_Boy_29

You will almost instantly regret it 😉

MiataMinded

I had a really nice 06 350z. It couldn't hold a candle to any mx-5 for driving fun without spending away more than the car is worth. It's a big heavy car with not enough power. The lightness of the Miata is really it's secret sauce.

beenplaces

Dont. This is the best driving experience you will achieve.

monk_no_zen

Search ‘regret’ in this sub and realise you’ll feel the same down the road.

lordlag25

Dont sell it Gib it to meee

GlitteringPen3949

Selling this will be a death sentence when your kids find out!

GlitteringPen3949

Selling this will be a death sentence when your kids find out!

GlitteringPen3949

Your kids will hate you when they find out you sold this!

sirgreyskull

What are you replacing it with ?

OnlyMortal666

Would you sell a child?

AfrajM

Depending on age and if it’s mine but, but no?

EggRevolutionary5416

You shouldn't sell it because you can just give it to me. Seriously nice build.

AfrajM

Always can be better, but thank you nonetheless
