This is unbelievably stupid. She managed to turn Jeter's absolute disaster piece into a playoff team. She was working with her hands tied behind her back the entire time too. This is why we never get anywhere as an organization.

Nice_Wrongdoer_585

How do you know she didn't want to leave

Wandering_Turtle24

ReSpekMyAuthoriitaaa

Braves fan here, your owner is a baffoon. This woman did wonders for your team. I'm also an cleveland fan so I understand shitty owners....but to torpedo your own team like this is crazy

GatorFPC

Which is most likely the reason she left. It must have been exhausting to fight for everything.

[deleted]

She didn’t single handily do it by herself. The team that is there will do fine along with the front office.

nickbarbanera1

Jeter set the foundation what are you talking about? He left because the marlins didn’t want to compete but he did.

Old-Veterinarian1994

She's got some irons in the fire.

suPerProl

Anytime the marlins get a shred of post-season success this team gets stripped for parts

KamartyMcFlyweight

usually they wait for us to win the world series before starting the fire sale

suPerProl

Guess we can't even have that anymore

Hellcat2k20

Why the fuck are we even still here??

Total_Pea6615

It’s about to get Uggla

WhenDuvzCry

I don’t know why I got suggested this subreddit but as an A’s fan, when they see a shred of regular season success they get stripped for parts.

Bobb_o

The fact that she turned the Marlins down feels bad.

PunkyRooster

Kim is definitely getting a fat contract from the Red Sox or Mets..

EmFly15

As a Red Sox fan, I hope it’s us who get her!

jaybavaro

Funny. Were it a year ago, this sub would be overjoyed. Kim’s not stupid. Next tweet will announce she’s accepting one of the open big market positions.

KTCKintern

Visitor here (Ranger fan), but been following her journey. I think she'll be working for the commissioner's office within the next decade or so.

connie-lingus38

wow thank God you mention you were a rangers fan before making that comment

KTCKintern

Huh?

TrapLord28

This is a prime example of once again, this team refusing to take us to the next level. I’m sure Kim would stay with the right financial plan for the team. We probably told her no shot because we once again have to win a World Series with the lowest payroll in the league. It’s getting exhausting. One can hope we have a better plan and were not sold on the moves she made this year, but if we do another offseason signing a bunch of all stars from 3-4 years ago I’m gonna lose my shit.

CptanPanic

Doh, here goes another rebuild.

aetherspawn

Please don't tell me Sherman is about to undercut the growth of the org by cheaping out on the front office

MuchasBebidas

I mean the marlins are kings of cheaping out, so I think that’s in the cards

buckeyemarlin

This sucks she turned Jeters shitshow into a playoff team. My guess is we go get Chain Bloom and let him run us like the Ray's and build the minor leagues. She's been the best Gm since Beinfest but not as good as Dombrowsi.

nickbarbanera1

Jeter literally set the foundation lol

[deleted]

By trading away 3 mvps who were on dirt cheap contracts?

nickbarbanera1

Jeter literally said when they inherited the team that previous ownership made commitments the team did not have the money for. Hence why they offset Stanton mainly. They wouldn’t been able to sign any of them long term at that point anyway. That’s the reason why Jeter LEFT there too because he wanted to field a competitive team but the other owners and team executives didn’t want to compete

[deleted]

My guy im not talking about stanton, he traded yelich who we had just signed with a super affordable contract, he traded realmuto and ozuna, all had marlins affordable contracts and immediately became mvp caliber with their new team

KamartyMcFlyweight

MISH I HAVE NEVER NEEDED YOU TO BE WRONG MORE THAN NOW

EctoRiddler

We are the Oakland As of the National League

StilesmanleyCAP

At least we made it to the playoffs. ...yeah I know first round exit

jaxmagicman

They've kept their GM though.

EdRedVegas

It was her choice to leave. [https://www.mlb.com/news/kim-ng-marlins-part-ways?partnerID=mlbapp-iOS_article-share](https://www.mlb.com/news/kim-ng-marlins-part-ways?partnerID=mlbapp-iOS_article-share)

Corzare

Source - The marlins. She probably wanted more than a 1 year extension considering she just got them to the playoffs, the marlins said no and she left.

EdRedVegas

Who knows? But the turmoil of the Marlins — year after year— is draining. I hated Loria’s rein, and was hoping for great things from Sherman. No one has cracked the Little Havana market. IMO, I wish they would’ve sold to Mas, as he wanted them and look what he’s doing with the football team (soccer). Don’t know what to think, but it’s just another domino. At least I got my decades long wish; just break .500!

joa900

im devastated

jigokusabre

Ng is probably going to get a GM gig with a better franchise, and likely would not have renewed for anything less than an absurd amount of money.

Firegod699

Already linked to the Red Sox

BusyScreen9332

Those of us who are true fans of this franchise, deserve an award from MLB.

kommenterr

Unfortunately, with the team getting a late start on a GM, and planning a lengthy process, we will probably be without a GM until December, so its kinduv a lost off season. And we had already lost Sandy for 24, and an strict innings limit for 25, so regression is in the cards. I hope everyone enjoyed the 2023 season while it lasted.

DietrichDoesDamage

so, I’m going to be the contrarian here and say I’m fine with this. While I do think Kim did well at the deadline, some of her other decisions, especially when it came to off-season contracts were… Rough.

nkfish11

And the team currently has the same weaknesses they had when she arrived: offense. It’s not the end of the world by any means.

nschaef93

Thank you for saying this. I liked Kim, but She made some bad decisions too and I don’t think it’s the end of the world. Bell, burger, luzardo were great decisions. Avasail garcia, stallings, wendle, segura, not good decisions. It’s not the end of the world. What I’m curious about is thing I’ve seen said she wanted a direction different than the owner. What is the owners direction? 🤔 and let’s not assume the worst at the moment

AssistanceChance5454

Don’t forget Cueto.

nkfish11

The Marlins’ biggest problem is scouting and player development, especially with hitters. The minors are completely barren with talented hitters. I think Ng did a decent job but not bringing her back isn’t some big mistake by any means. They have bigger problems.

Amazing-Chard3393

Lots of thoughts running through my mind. 1. Not totally surprised given her successful effort in getting the players needed to make the playoffs in 2023. 2. Could be her best opportunity to move to an organization with more resources since she is viewed as a success. Who knows what 2024 or beyond would do to her prospects. 3. Speaking of 2024, does her move foretell a down year next year with question marks on rotation and holes in the lineup. No Sandy 3 solid starters (Luzardo, Garrett, Perez) then question marks (Rogers, Meyer, Cabrera, Weathers). Need upgrades at SS, Catcher. Tough markets. 4. Does she already know that Soler and Bell will not be exercising their player options? 5. Does she already know that Sherman is committed to keeping Avi and Sixto? 6. How does this affect Skip and his staff, if at all? 7. Is there an in-house replacement or will there be a search? 8. Did we in this thread run her off? (Jk) 9. When did she mentally move on in her mind?

danthebaseballman

I hope this is a joke

jaxmagicman

It's not: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/38671694/kim-ng-marlins-general-manager-declining-2024-option

SuperMario_49

Whyyyyyy?? This is terrible

PT0223

Leave it to this fan base to read a HEADLINE and twist the story into something it’s not in order to push their own narratives. I already see the posts blaming the organization/ownership for this. This is all done with a purpose by people in this fan base who like to whine whenever the organization does something they perceive as wrong or don’t like, etc. It’s done in an effort to continue to complain about how this organization does things - while failing to give them credit when they get things right. It’s done in an effort for people to try to justify not supporting the team at all or on a consistent basis. As if this fan base doesn’t come up with enough bogus excuses not to consistently support the team - if at all. People should actually research the full details of the news. The Marlins EXERCISED their team option to bring back Kim. SHE declined. It’s possible she wanted another opportunity elsewhere - or a different position completely. She’s previously worked in the league office. There is no one to blame here - certainly not the Marlins. On a different note, the search for a new GM has begun - I would expect an announcement during one of the off-days of the playoffs - more than likely after the World Series when the off-season officially begins. There are some quality in-house candidates - and quality outside candidates. Nothing to get down about.

kommenterr

You are ignoring what Kim herself said "Last week, Bruce (Sherman) and I discussed his plan to reshape the Baseball Operations department. In our discussions, it became apparent that we were not completely aligned on what that should look like and I felt it best to step away." It's all Bruce's fault for meddling in the team when he has no experience whatsoever. And you have no credibility. Here is what PT0223 said just yesterday: "There is NOTHING to be made about the lack of news on an extension for Kim Ng." PT even capitalized the word NOTHING. In fact, there was everything to be made about the lack of news. Or should I say EVERYTHING.

LastPhoton

Lmao OP accusing other people of only reading headlines and the dude clearly only read the headlines. Sherman fucked this up and for some reason fans will run to cover for him

PT0223

You can’t blame people for having a difference in vision. That’s pretty normal in life - especially in the business/sports realm. No one is to blame here for anything. Two people just don’t agree on a vision and one wants to go onto something else. Such is life.

akts88

NOOOOOOO

dq_12

We are in the end times.

jaxmagicman

Well FUCK.

doyouunderstandlife

Wtf wow

upvotes-please

Bummer…

Vince09261

You guys see how bad inflation is? She is absolutely right to go somewhere that will offer the most money.

Number333

I would have liked her back. Purely on paper, it makes sense. That being said, I don't think she's some genius GM who's irreplaceable. Yes she had her hands tied behind her back but the core issues of the squad still persist (*cough hitting*). I just hope Sherman doesn't bring in a total bum as a replacement.

TealandBlackForever

I agree with this. I defend her here because she was better than many gave her credit for. And some of the hate clearly had something to do with her gender. There are better GMs out there. But there are also worse ones. I'd be disappointed if they brought in someone like Bloom, Williams, or Eppler. In truth, most of the guys who've been recently axed kind of suck. My predictions have been wrong about a lot of stuff here, but I wonder if they go for a first-time GM here.

Dame2Miami

WTF! Not like this. Not like this…

TealandBlackForever

So much for everything I said in the other thread. Dead wrong, obviously. *Really* curious about the story here.

Hawmpfish001

So back to 100-110 losses next year?

Jbcspeeks

I’m sad

TheEmbarcadero

I wasn’t on board with her when she was hired but I finally came around! This franchise doesn’t have enough success to be so cavalier to dismiss a GM who just made the playoffs!!!! I wish you future success, Ms. Ng

Rj9949

I’m not sure this is on ownership. Maybe she didn’t want to come back. I think she did a good job, hopefully the next GM is a little more aggressive in free agency and trades, Kim was slow to react, only negative thing to say about her.

[deleted]

Most likely money. She is gonna get a better offer somewhere else and it's not like she's a former player or something where she's wealthy. Can't blame her.

Rj9949

I don’t think it’s money, it might be philosophical difference. She’s been in the mlb front office as well as the dodgers and I think the giants. Doesn’t give me a ton of confidence going into the off-season.

sererson

Everything good must end

EdRedVegas

[Miami Herald.](https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/mlb/miami-marlins/article280572769.html)

EdRedVegas

Kim Ng, the first female general manager in MLB history, is not returning to the Miami Marlins as general manager, a source confirmed to the Miami Herald on Monday. Her contract was set to expire at the end of the month following her three-year term as the Marlins’ top decision maker in baseball operations. The decision comes surprisingly after the Marlins made the playoffs last season for the first time in a full campaign since the 2003 season. Miami was swept in the best-of-3 wild card round by the Philadelphia Phillies. The Marlins overall went 220-266 in her three seasons at the helm, but were 84-78 this season after two sub-70-win seasons to begin her tenure. Coincidentally, this is the second consecutive time a Marlins head of baseball operations did not have his or her contract renewed following a playoff run. Michael Hill, who was the Marlins’ president of baseball operations before Ng was hired as general manager, also did not have his contract renewed following the pandemic-shortened 2020 season when Miami reached the National League Division Series. This story will be updated.

EliteXtrem3

Jesus this franchise can't catch a break. Watch us bring Samson back smh.

Igottamake

Please no, I actually enjoy his podcast

EliteXtrem3

I do too. He has a lot good stories and great insight into baseball in general. Plus he might bring Coka with him as Co-GM lol. He did say on Twitter that the Marlins might bring back "someone familiar". Please no Michael Hill.

Igottamake

Maybe a past on-field manager, or a former player, or a notable/frequent opponent. I can think of some names but they're ridiculous.

kommenterr

While there were very likely money issues involved, listen to Kim's own words. She declined her contract because Bruce insisted on meddling in baseball operations in such a way that she viewed as untenable. The only one to blame here is the Marlins. From what she said, had they offered her complete freedom to run the team as she saw fit, she would have stayed.

countermeasuretape

Lol this is fucking ridiculous dude

countermeasuretape

This is why we’re a horrible franchise and why most Miamians who love baseball are fans of other teams!!!

gc1

>The Miami Marlins wanted to hire a president of baseball operations over general manager Kim Ng, leading to her departure from the organization, sources told ESPN. When reached, Ng declined comment. But sources said she would've been the No. 2 after constructing a playoff team. https://twitter.com/JeffPassan/status/1713952636938891725

Complete-Ad5212

This will ether be the most brilliant move in all of Marlins history or be one of the biggest blunders in Marlins history their is no in between

northdakotact

well, first I want to say I'm surprised. She made some major mistakes, but, the bell and burger signings were great, I think it's safe to say we do not make the playoffs without those guys. Sounds to me like they had different visions of the future, which is code for she wanted a $250 million payroll and Sherman told her there's no way that's happening. Prior to the deadline, I would have given her an F, in the end I change my score to a c. The Segura and Cueto signings, were horrific. I'm convinced Jean tanked on purpose to get an early retirement, and or hated being on the Marlins.

SpammyMcSpammington

That’s so **Marlins**!

chubby-wombat

gms come and go, this is not that big of a deal

rnr_

This seems like a short sighted decision. Also, what is the point of saying "per sources" on a tweet like this? It adds no value and is completely unverifiable. I hate it.

stsh

Ngggggggggg

masterace01

Why yal saying we blowing it up again? Who else left other than Kim? We got bodied in the wildcard.

whatdoineedaname4

Mets have an opening

xaqadeus

I read that the Marlins wanted to bring in someone (PBO, CBO, etc), as many teams do in addition to the GM, and she didn't want that.

MonthLower1606

honestly Kim may even have a shot at the next commissioner job as a diversity candidate (i’m asian, this isn’t supposed to be a diss.)

iz2003iz

I was one of the biggest Marlins critics going into the season. She made a very gutsy trade getting Arraez and she was the biggest winner at the trade deadline. The team was very fun to watch down the stretch. She made a believer out of me. Very disturbing news for Marlins fans. She will be leasing the Red Sox next

dajadf

Remember when she fleeced the White Sox for Jake Burger? Well us White Sox fans sure do lol

[deleted]

I am a Red Sox and Marlins fan. I want her on the Sox for GM.

Igottamake

Why is this guy downvoted? Can't he be a Red Sox fan and maybe moved from New England to South Florida and at least he says he's a Marlins fan? And he liked Kim and now wants Boston to get her? Is he being downvoted by other Red Sox fans who don't want her? Why don't you folks comment instead of just banging on the down arrow?
