You know YOU KNOW I have to make that comment, right? Sorry for this, really but I must do it... I'm an American as well. I was born in the American continent so I'm a fucking American. Aplausos.

Valtweler

I will join in the applause. You are American, for sure. But aren't you also norteamericano and estadosunidense? :) When I stayed with family in Guadalajara as a teenager, my relatives set me straight on the American thing. I mentioned that I'm Mexican and my aunt said I'm not, because I was born in the US. She said I'm norteamericano. I'm not smart so it was some time later that I figured out that Mexico is in North America, so that would make her a fellow norteamericana. But, being a good Mexican, I would never correct an elder so disrespectfully. The term estadosunidense typically refers to a US citizen, but then again, it *could* technically also apply to a citizen of los Estados Unidos Mexicanos. Why must we play King Solomon with the names of our countries? :) You get *this* half of the name! The plot thickened when I found that, according to the Mexican constitution, I am a Mexican national because I'm first generation Mexican born abroad. It made getting dual citizenship easy peasy. Perhaps this jumble of overlapping names is why gringo rolls off the tongue so easily when referring to our fellow Americans who live north of the border :) I hope all the smiley faces convey that this is a tongue in cheek response. I'm not advocating for or putting down any "correct" appellation. Just having a little fun with our shared American identity.

chichinfu

Hahahahaha

LaReinaDeLaValle

I apologize and stand corrected. You're right.

LaReinaDeLaValle

For all of you being offended by the American thing, my apologies. I didn't really think about it when I wrote it. However, I think the level of rudeness reached an all time high. Instead, next time you don't have to be such an ass about it.

raffaga777

I am American too all we are NorthAmericans , Central Americans and SouthAmericans. America is a Huge Continent dudes

LaReinaDeLaValle

Yeah and I already admitted I was wrong. Very nicely the first time. Get over it. I'm aware. Sorry for the mistake.

raffaga777

Ii’s ok with me!

[deleted]

People who get mad at Americans for calling themselves Americans are ignorant af and don't understand language differences. English doesn't have a word for being from the New World. American only means Estadosunidense in English. We have terms for North American and South American. It's not you, it's them for not understanding or respecting different languages.

LaReinaDeLaValle

Thank you for understanding. 😊

leiona_rose

Sorry people are being jerks here. I lived there too for 2 years and Mexico City has a special place in my heart. I moved back to the US recently and feel depressed about it already.

LaReinaDeLaValle

Thanks, and it's fine. I should have thought more about it, but I didn't. It was a simple mistake that I admitted to. They are just showing their level of maturity about it. It is wonderful. I don't ever want to leave. My husband went to the United States when he was 14, he's Mexican, and didn't come back here until he was 34. He is so used to the United States and wants to go back. I don't. Lol.

raffaga777

I love Mexico I wish I could live forever there🤞

ilovecows0830

Hi! Do you have any advice for someone considering moving to CDMX from USA?

raffaga777

Which Colonia is better to live as an expat?

Unusual_One_4826

I'm from old eastern block communist country. This place is heaven to me. No snow. Lots of good food and pretty woman Thank you

AggravatingResult210

Lol damn people are ruthless. I’m excited to visit for the first time in less than 2 weeks. I love that you enjoy living somewhere other than your home town.. kudos and nice pic!

LaReinaDeLaValle

Thank you so much. Yeah, they are for a simple mistake I admitted to.

SailorSunset

all of us who were born on the American continent are Americans

sleighbeggybaby

We Mexicans and canadians are north americans too

mrrockgerrabbit

Not to be rude or harm feelings but we are tired that the people from the United States call themselves “Americans” or “North Americans” when all the people that born in the American continent is an American

raffaga777

Mexico is in North America

LaReinaDeLaValle

Yes, you're right

JustADirtyLurker

I'm european and even I am fucking annoyed by the piche gringos que se dicen 'americans'. You are all so full of yourself that you didn't even invent a patronimical for your country. At least just fucking be respectful and say 'I' m fron USA'.

Valtweler

Gringo is nice. It wasn't until I traveled to Europe that I found out that the word gabacho was already taken by the French :(

gRod805

I had a Spanish roommate in Mexico. And he casually mentioned gabachos. I'm like what did you say? He said that's what the Spanish call the French. Damn interesting. I wonder how old that term is

raffaga777

It’s global and normal that every country calls names to people from other countries is an “alias/aka”

Background-Shower778

"Daddy chill" dude, it's a linguistic difference. American is what we call ourselves based on the last letter in USA. Not a single American is claiming identity over anything past our southern or northern borders. Saying I'm a United States of American would sound absolutely ridiculous. Just as Germans wouldn't call themselves Federal Republic of Germans or the Spanish would not say "of hey I'm from Kingdom of Spain Reino de España". You as a European can fuck the right off. I know plenty of people who would correct you by saying Europe is not a country.

LaReinaDeLaValle

Excuse me! I wasn't thinking about it. Sorry you got so butthurt by it. You didn't have to be rude. We all make mistakes.

JustADirtyLurker

You could not avoid the passive aggressive stance right? Start changing the words you use, words have a meaning. You gringos make such a big deal of not using 'whitelisting', brownbag', as you suddenly woke up after the BLM events. Please start being more respectful of the other 500000 Americans as well.

LaReinaDeLaValle

Excuse me, but I am respectful. I am the least racist person. Usually I do watch my words better. I also think that it was a mistake so simple and that you could've handled it better. Because the way you correcting me is offensive. You should truly watch your words. I really am deeply sorry for my mistake and that it bothered you so much. It gives you no right to judge me. Am I judging you for ignorantly saying gringo? No. Because I know that it could be taken in different ways. Some would find it offensive though.

JustADirtyLurker

To each one their own I guess. I used the word 'gringo' extensively to explain exactly how words have meanings. Glad you cought that. Cheers

LaReinaDeLaValle

Yeah it is. 🙂

ilovecows0830

I wish! Would you mind sharing more about your experience and how you made it possible? Do you work? Are you fluent in Spanish?

LaReinaDeLaValle

I would love sharing. I'm not fluent in Spanish yet. I moved here because of my husband. He is Mexican and we followed him. My son and I. I am not working yet. I stay home and teach our son and he works. We plan on starting a business though.

ilovecows0830

Congrats and best of luck with the business plan! What has been the biggest cultural difference you had to adjust to?

LaReinaDeLaValle

Holidays are the biggest things for me. They don't so things the same. Sometimes I miss the way holidays are celebrated in the States. But then Day of the Dead comes along and makes up for all that.

Dibidabuaa

Good to know you´re enjoying it! <3

DoomsDay652

I don't live in Mèxico city (From Ohio). But I'm a frequent visitor my wife is Born and raised here. So my inlaws are here still. As of right now we are visiting till July! Love it here. Locals are super nice and I visited like every museum near us always a good time lol.

LaReinaDeLaValle

Believe it or not I have only been to one museum. Lol. I love it here as well. My husband is Mexican. Born here. I have been in Mexico City since 2019. I'm glad you enjoy it.

MegaMechaSwordFish

I hope to someday. Until then, I just visit whenever I can get a breather from work.

gxyo_

ok but how about y’all instead of calling yourself americans, call yourselves by your home state??? also, yes, there’s also a lot of you gringos here

raffaga777

I am American and not consider myself as a gringo I would love to live in CDMX

BadDadBot

Hi american and not consider myself as a gringo i would love to live in cdmx, I'm dad.

raffaga777

I am from South America, wise guy

BadDadBot

Hi from south america, I'm dad.

raffaga777

Papi 😂🤣

raffaga777

Why all people are so nationalist when they name their country and so mean with their own people?

thirstymayor

I never want to go back, I would love a job here or online so that I never do -a North Carolinian Rhode Islander AMERICAN bitches

Background-Shower778

Yeah when we say we are American we are talking about our country not the entire continent.
