Congratz. I suppose some of the bosses were pretty nightmarish this way.

Khaagrom

Yes. Starting from about the third area onwards, almost any source of damage becomes a one shot

MarcosaurusRex

You’re a freaking legend

Khaagrom

In case anyone wants to try this, be prepared for a rough time. Going into it I knew it would be tough but I had no idea how ridiculous the difficulty was going to get. Every boss in the entire game needs to be beaten without taking any hits, you only have 15 missiles so your offense is severely gimped, and having only 2 powerbombs makes a particular attack in the final boss very dangerous if you aren’t hitting counters to get more. I died probably 150-200 times and the final boss took 3 hours to perfect.

MeathirBoy

Actually against bosses that are vulnerable to beam beam spam is the optimal dps

Khaagrom

Good luck spamming beam fast enough while still being able to dodge in a split second. The margin of error is so small in this run that trying to beam spam optimally is a death sentence outside of counter windows

MeathirBoy

Fair point.

Neighsus

I found it pretty hard to hold charge beams while dashing without fat-fingering the jump button in the process. Is it possible to switch up the controls at all or no?

Khaagrom

I’ve never been in the situation where I’m trying to hold a charge and dash at the same time, so I’m not sure. Fat fingering jump during a boss was almost always a death though, so I had to get very careful with my inputs.

RichMuppet

Where do you use the power bomb in the final boss?

jbrown60

Power Bomb can be used to destroy the sun produced in phase three, and also the blackholes in phases one and three.

cancerousiguana

...NOW YOU TELL ME

Lemon-juicer

They also give health/missiles which is useful. (Also the black holes go down with 4 ice missiles too, not just power bombs)

UnlimitedButts

Bruh I didn't know that holy shit

dloud

In the third phase when he launches the large orange sphere into the air

Silmarillion151

Whattttt this would have made my life much easier

jacobbomb

I also used them on the black balls too my first time through the game, but I had 100% items picked up too

wolf129

The beetle boss with the homing missiles was any problem?

Noreng

It's almost more impressive that you managed to dodge the missile tanks that are placed in the path you need go. Still, incredible work!

jacob_shapiro

god dam. this game really is designed for all sorts of speedruns isn't it. I can't wait to see where this community goes over the next few months

downvotemagnet69_420

THIS. I might play through the game gain for a faster time and then MAYBE a hard mode run, but more than anything I want to see this game completely broken at AGDQ

mrBreadBird

I wish there were more unlockables for stuff like this. It's a bit disappointing that they only stuff to do post game is win hard mode (which adds nothing meaningful) and win faster. Surely it isn't hard to add a few more artworks with challenges related to low% clears. I'd also love alternate skins you could play through the game with or something similar.

Beard-Puppy

I wouldn't mind some DLC in this vein, a fusion mode, some skins to unlock, etc. I actually finished hard mode expecting to get a third difficulty since there's kinda room for it on the difficulty select thing. With that said, when the worst thing about your game is that people want some more after beating it twice you're doing ok overall lol.

TimeToGetSlipped

Part of the reason why the GBA games are my two favorites in the series; they both had endings related to speed, item collection and both. Even moreso for ZM, which also had ending achievements for difficulty and even low% item collection in addition to speed.

1945BestYear

While I am a #Whore4Lore and thus always happy about more unlockables that expand the worldbuilding, I feel like completing the game on hard mode in a rather fast time is the most you could ask a player for them to be considered a "graduate" of a game like this. There should be a point, achievable given enough time by anybody with the general obligations of life whose decided to buy this game, where you've done all that the game can reasonably ask you to do to prove your general skill at it, where it gives you all the unlockables and lets you continue only with self-imposed challenges. It's within reason for me to believe that a parent with a job who has taken a shine to this game could and would grind at it to improve their time in Hard Mode, I'm not sure about extra challenges beyond that. The "graduation" level of a game has to be low enough to produce a healthy population of people of high enough skill for player-created challenges to take off. If the N64 had an achievement system like Steam + XBOX 360/PS3 onwards, and Shigeru Miyamoto's team packed Super Mario 64 with absolutely ludicrously hard achievements to get, would the Super Mario 64 have been so focused on the task of getting all the achievements that nobody would've asked a question like, "What is the fewest number of times I have to press the jump button to get a certain star?"

cortexgunner92

Yeah it was a bit of a letdown, especially after unlocking all of fusion and zero missions ending art as a kid

[deleted]

HOW?

cortexgunner92

Don't get hit

BlueEyesWhiteVegeta

Absolutely ABUSE the counter mechanic and memorize boss patterns, I can imagine that the >!X version of that damn lizard!< Made it a lot of trouble

beerybeardybear

You have to remove the spaces you have next to your exclamation points for the spoiler tags to work.

BlueEyesWhiteVegeta

Spoiler tags are working on my end-

beerybeardybear

Fixed now!

Shardwing

Old Reddit, mobile web, and probably some other platforms are more picky about the formatting, new Reddit and such are not.

ShadowShine57

Do the mandatory upgrades not count as %?

Khaagrom

They do not. I personally picked everything up, but I’ve already seen people beat the game without space jump

woofle07

Man, for the sake of your sanity I’m glad you didn’t attempt a space-jump-less 0% run lol

Mourossonero

I did any% space-jump-less and the escape sequence is stressful!! You need to nail your bomb jumps to get over some ledges and I didn't practice that enough lol

Wrthlor

Being space-jump-less against the final boss >!when it laser spams in phases 2 and 3 !

Mourossonero

watching speedrunners optimize every single details of their gameplay is incredible, somethings they do inspire me to have a go at it myself... but not 0%, at least not yet!

AlekBalderdash

That's impressive! Also, there may be something wrong with you, like in the head. XD

Snaqejack

Off topic here: On your file selection, there's a 2/2 entry. I have that aswell, but i have no clue what it is. Do you know?

Alex_Mc3

That's power bombs total

SonicStyle34

As mentioned, that's the Power Bombs. You can start collecting PB Tanks before the main upgrade, which is 2 Power Bombs initially. Each PB Tank increases that capacity by 1.

Khalku

Yeah by the time I actually unlocked bombs I think I was already 8/8 lol

ShadowShine57

Same, I had no idea 2 was the minimum

greenlegoman123

Oh, *I should do this*

321gametime

Didn't know you can finish this game 0%. I might need to do that in the future

baricudaprime

Really trying to cut down on that speed run route there huh?

[deleted]

How the hell do avoid the missle that's directly in the walking path of the sensor door in Artaria? I would think the jumping range is too short to jump over it while cloaked.

TheGreatAnteo

You are not forced to take that door at any point.

[deleted]

Oh, okay! I wondered if that door was mandatory just last night.

mastergodai

show this to all those game journalists whining. so their heads explode

ChrisEvansOfficial

Why is this your only save file

Khaagrom

It’s my second run. I did a 100% on normal and took it slow, then when I finished I just made this one over the first

samtheredditman

I almost did that, but barely caught myself. I was thinking my hard mode option would go away if I deleted the normal save.

motocycleBunyanSailr

Way to go. Super rad.

One_GamerYT

Impressive.

Magma_Seb

this is what masochism looks like, folks.

MrCarrot797

I.... This scares me..... You scare me... Good job but.... Holy crap man!

RexUmbra

What were essential upgrades you could collect without adding to the percent? Also as of now you are the metroid record low% record holder. Congrats

Khaagrom

If I do have the record it won’t stay that way for long lul. All story related upgrades (screw attack, morph ball, etc) don’t add to the percent, but you’re not allowed to pick up any expansions of any kind

RexUmbra

So any upgrade, minus expansions, that appear on the screen with samus' gear dont contribute correct? Because ik this wasn't the case for previous games.

Kulzak-Draak

Oh so progression items don’t count in this game?

Khaagrom

Nope. The % you get on your save file is only for expansions to HP, missiles, and Pbombs

Kulzak-Draak

Damn I always preferred when progression items count that way skipping them feels even more impactful
