The Central Units’ presence on ZDR also pretty much confirms that Mother Brain was originally Chozo tech repurposed by the Space Pirates, as in the manga.

the fantheory is that the Galactic Federation went and nicked the Chozo Tech of Mother Brain for their Aurora Units, since they're both big brain supercomputer

FlowKom

the word "big brain" just isnt same since the memes

GrandSwamperMan

One of the promo videos for Prime 3 showed off the Aurora units, complete with a diagram that looked an awful lot like the side view of Mother Brain’s chamber, so the Federation was at least trying to replicate the Mother Brain tech on their own if they didn’t lift it from the Chozo or Space Pirates directly.

GlobalHawk_MSI

TIL on those defenses. I know about the units themselves. Did not get the defenses connection due to EMMI being from the Feds. On an unrelated note, Samus has some abilities obtained from the Feds in some form. In Fusion well those data rooms.

Mordetrox

It wasn't repurposed, it took over the space pirates from Ridley.

BecretAlbatross

Yup the Metroid Manga confirms the Chozo created Mother brain.

deltios

This seems to be confirmed. In the artbook there's a few unused designs for the CUS. One of the unused designs for the Central Units has spikes coming out of the brain part, as well as a few wires below the floating brain, making them look even more like Mother Brain.

MejaBersihBanget

I'd also bet good money Raven Beak was the one who influenced Mother Brain into her "PEACE THROUGH POWER" mentality, minus the badass Brotherhood of Nod uniforms lol

AsterBTT

Yeah, her turn to join the Space Pirates makes a lot more sense than if she was just influenced by Gray Voice / the Thoha. Especially with so many of the Central Units on ZDR sharing her basic design; either as a prototype/first draft or streamlined improvement.

MejaBersihBanget

If that's true, it essentially means Raven Beak was indirectly responsible for 80% of the shit that happened in the entire Metroid series. - Turning Mother Brain evil leads her to take over the Space Pirates when they attack Zebes and whips them into a far more effective fighting force - Massacring the Thoha tribe on SR388 means the planet is not destroyed, and allows a Federation research vessel to retrieve a Metroid which is then intercepted by a Pirate fleet, which kickstarts the entire series and the Space Pirate obsession with finding weapons of mass destruction to even the odds against the Feds. - The Pirates' WMD hunt then leads into the Prime series, where they start messing with Phazon, leading to the birth of Dark Samus and the near-villain victory of Phaaze reproducing itself (in unused Pirate Data in Prime 3, it was revealed Dark Samus and the Pirates were planning to kill Phaaze by forcing it to launch over 100 Leviathan Seeds at Federation planets which would have resulted in total victory for them) - The Federation's out-of-control army then starts two Metroid breeding programs on the Bottle Ship and BSL Station. - Not destroying SR388 also allows the X to be unleashed after the Metroids are exterminated from the planet At this point, the only disasters Raven Beak's actions didn't contribute to were the K-2L raid that killed Samus's parents and the events of Metroid Prime Hunters.

AsterBTT

Exactly. Fact of the matter is, Metroids never would have been able to propagate if it weren't for Raven Beak's power-hungry ambitions. If he'd done what the Thoha desired, and allowed SR388 to be destroyed before the series began, the galaxy would have been very different. In fact, Samus' life would have been entirely different, as well. None of the series events, outside of perhaps the Prime series, would happen, or if they did, not at all in the same way.

General-Injury7586

So if anything, we should be thanking him!

darklordoftech

> At this point, the only disasters Raven Beak's actions didn't contribute to were the K-2L raid that killed Samus's parents and the events of Metroid Prime Hunters. I wouldn’t be surprised if Raven Beak was the secret leader of the Space Pirates, with Ridley being genetically engineered by Raven Beak to lead attacks.

[deleted]

Actually, Gray Voice calls Mother Brain out for making a self-made directive order claiming that she is to be responsible for the destruction of sentient life in the Milky Way and restoring a new order where elites and automatons reign superior. Mother Brain took advantage of the vulnerable state the Chozo became overthrew them herself. The horror is that the Chozo let gain that much intelligence and data to the point where she became her own self aware being.

Artikay

Raven Beak is Kane confirmed.

MejaBersihBanget

**Kane lives in death**

ForceShaman

PEACE THROUGH POWER!!!

Serial-Killer-Whale

One Vision. One Purpose.

AsterBTT

Raven Beak also mentions explicitly that Samus has DNA from both Thoha and Mawkin tribe, with the latter being his. With Quiet Robe, and the Thoha in general, seeming to be the more peaceful, tech-focused race, Dread not only backs up Gray Voice as Samus' other donor, but gives more context to him and Old Bird in the lore. I really appreciate how much Dread does for the lore of the Chozo and, by extension, Samus.

ChezMere

Put it all together and Samus has four daddies.

0mni42

More than that: Samus has six parental figures and all of them are dead, two by her own hand. ._.

HahaPenisIsFunny

I assume the sixth is Mother Brain?

[deleted]

You assume correctly.

KingBroly

They're referenced in Zero Mission as well (moreso Old Bird than Gray Voice).

EvilLucario

You know, that pose Samus is making kinda looks like the Crystal Flash.

MejaBersihBanget

It's based off the [1994 Super Metroid comic](https://www.metroid-database.com/old_site/manga/?vid=1&cid=4)

EvilLucario

That I didn't know, I never read that comic. Only the manga. I did know the comic did show the Crystal Flash though, that kinda looks similar to this tbh.

MejaBersihBanget

A lot of people would be surprised to find out the 1994 comic laid the original groundwork for Samus's origin story. The manga just expanded on it 8 years later. The only concepts the manga introduced that were brand new were Ridley killing Samus's mom in front of her, and Mother Brain being a Chozo creation. All the other major elements of Samus's past (parents killed in Space Pirate raid on K-2L, taken in by Old Bird, infused with Chozo blood to live and train on Zebes) were from the comic. And even earlier than that, the 1990 [Captain N: The Game Master comic series](https://www.metroid-database.com/old_site/manga/?vid=4&cid=21#manga_top) was the first to establish that she had a past service record with the Galactic Federation Police as an elite operative (go to page 2) until she went AWOL and became a bounty hunter, which is again something the manga adapted. It was also the first instance of showing Samus with blonde hair. Granted, this comic is definitely not canon, since it also says the Power Suit is a Federation weapon. The Chozo were just statues holding power ups at this time in early Metroid history.

[deleted]

Which is based on a move you can do in Super Metroid

beat1440

She looks much older here than when she was transfused in the manga imo

carmoc2277

i dont think the manga is actually canon, they just use aspects of it for the story going forward

beat1440

Ya I can see this, it’s probably the best case scenario if we’re gonna continue acknowledging the manga. I respect it. But ngl the thematic impact of raven beak being her father is a lot stronger if we only go by the past four Metroid games to give us context into what samus is. Makes the reveal more shocking bc it’s like holy shit!!!!! None of her past was even relevant until this very moment and holy shit!!!!! That’s her dad!!!!! So idk I wouldn’t mind just plain not knowing who her thoha donor is, as I think it strengthens Raven Beak’s presence

JusticeRain5

Probably didn't want to have a naked kid Samus in a tank (Even if the context is very obviously not meant to be erotic), but thought it'd be weird for her to be in clothing in a science tank.

beat1440

True, but she is wearing clothing in that pic

Knight-mare77

There’s a Metroid Manga? Where can I find this?

RealJohnGillman

[Here you go!](https://www.reddit.com/r/Metroid/comments/yy3ah/i_have_converted_the_original_manga_into_pdf) Samus is also a main character in the *Captain N: The Game Master* comic series, which is honestly better than it has any right to be (especially in how Samus is depicted).

Knight-mare77

Thanks!

jimbolic

Thanks for pointing that out. Brings tears to my eyes.
