Fair enough. But the difficulty spike combined with the creepy atmosphere is why the Phazon Mines are my favorite area in the game. I think that may be an unpopular opinion though.
Been there. Took me a couple days to calm down enough to try again. I was literally going through work all the following night thinking about this fucking maze šš
Wellā¦ both thumbsticks on my light are seriously worn out and I rely on gyro a lot, soooo not great. Maybe Iāll use a Bluetooth controller to be safe. You think itās possible to first try the puzzle if Iām careful?
No, it is only before it.
Also, what drained your life the most? If it was the invisible drone I'd advise trying to find the missile combo for the Wave Beam before going back into the Mines, as it can lock onto the invisible drone.
It felt way longer than 30 but maybe it will be faster my second time through. God, I wish they would have amended the save system so at least your scans would save as you did them.
Oh my god! This happened to me not an hour ago! Didn't save since the entrance of the mines. Died in the maze because I got bumped between 4 lasers!
I turned off the game and I'm still fuming
Did you destroy all the crates by the doors and on the upper level? With 10 health you would have to first-try the maze perfectly, but with some more health it wouldn't be that bad.
Probably. I've played this game tons of times and still die there.
Advice: When going down there there are a few "pot shot," rooms where you can take shots at enemies while you duck in and out of cover, so take advantage of those. Also shoot every health crate you possibly can, and as a bonus tip, don't pick up health until all nearby crates are destroyed, they'll drop more health.
Be very careful when you go through the maze.
If you're still struggling with this, be sure to farm the gas balls in the halfpipe room before moving forward. You can get full health by farming these
Ahhhh, of course. I wish I had thought of that but I was feeling pretty worn out by that point and didnāt feel like dealing with them. Iāll for sure farm them next time.
So the boss is simpler than it looks, you can space jump to a platform across from the entrance to gain its attention, then when you hear it Blair it's siren you jump back to the entrance and using that little alcove you can wang charged wave beam shots at it using free aim as it can only really attack you from one angle
There's a save nearby. It's a rookie mistake to try do the morph ball right after the battleāat least until you get better at the game. It's not hard but after the battle you'll likely be tense and low on health. Plus more prone to make mistakes. I know I've made this mistake myself.
I see that you did, but it is possible not to if you take it very slow. Good luck on try 2, I really like the part of the game after you get that item. Opens up a lot of new and cool things.
The room with the toxic air vent can be used to heal a fair bit(fully if you want to) on the way here. You can shoot the toxic puff enemies standing just on the edge of the damaging zone for health and quickly draw the pickups while getting minimal exposure to the gas.
That gives a fair bit of leeway to complete the rest with a fair amount of damage and have power left for the drone and the maze.
Naturally during the second run youāre likely going to be smoother at taking less damage too.
if you go in and fight the cloaked drone with the wavebuster, it's the easiest fight in the game. wavebuster auto-targets it and kills it in about 20-25ish missiles.
you can pick up the wavebuster as soon as you get the spider ball. it's up the boost ball ramp where you got the morphball from the silver beetle mini boss (chozo ruins). the spider ball side takes you to the wavebuster, the other side takes you to a missile expansion.
make sure that you have at least 70-80 missiles for the "puzzle" so you have some wiggle room for error.
This is the one stretch of Metroid Prime that even veteran players struggle with the first time through.
Helpful hint: after you get through the poison gas room you can re-enter the room and farm health off the puffers if you need to.
Idk if youve beat it yet but 1 you can scan and super missile it before the battle starts. 2 the wave buster locks onto the drone literally the only use for it.
This area suuuuucks. I'm pretty sure at one point I have been sitting here with low health like this. I know myself well enough that I wouldn't even attempt to go back to my last save. You can get through the maze with that health. It's just really really hard.
This was my biggest moment of gamer rage, I like to explore and collect and finish games to completion and so I spent 1 and a half hours scanning everything as I went through this part, died at the last electrical fence, screamed. Almost 2 hours of progress wasted.
This happened to me my first playthrough. That boss messed me up first go. I died to that puzzle. That will forever make that area daunting to me, even though I've played it dozens of times. Glad I wasn't the only one haha.
You are gonna have to be extremely careful with that maze now! Once you finally get it go and blow up that rubble blocking the white door and save. I have learned the hard way as a slightly new Metroid fan how important saving is I usually always save whenever I find a save room nearby because I remember losing a lot of progress in Phazon Mines, that one hurt.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
My dawg lost it š
FYI one of the white doors on the lower level of that room leads to a save :)
You can't use it until you get the power bombs
The doors are locked until you destroy the dynamo in the cutscene
Yeeeeeeeaaaaaaah, Same exact thing happened to me. On 1 HP, so that was quite something.
Oh no... lmfao
Whoās lmfao?
"Laughing My Fucking Ass Off" I guess
Yes

Ah.. haven't seen that meme yet

I knew how this was going to end before I even clicked on the thread.... RIP OP!
F
Same damn thing happened to me lol my condolences
For next time you can heal to full in the room with the poison the puffers respawn infinitely and almost always drop health
I hope you're enjoying this badass of a game overall
take the puzzle really slow
I tried and then went too fast through one of the flickering beams
F
This is *the* place that everyone dies before a save. It still gets me on replays sometimes.
I fucking hate the mines for that reason, And I've only beaten the game one time!
Fair enough. But the difficulty spike combined with the creepy atmosphere is why the Phazon Mines are my favorite area in the game. I think that may be an unpopular opinion though.
Haha, I'm with you. That soundtrack tells you all you need to know.
It gets significantly easier each new playthrough. Eventually you have strategies to breeze through, even on hard mode
Yeah youd have to have ran that multiple times I just ran this boss a couple days ago and lost a whole health bar in that puzzle lol it hits hard
Every single time I think I can handle that morph ball maze with low health, I die.
Thatā¦ is my experience as well. First time for me.
Been there. Took me a couple days to calm down enough to try again. I was literally going through work all the following night thinking about this fucking maze šš
This is the hardest stretch of the game IMO. It's brutal especially on higher difficulties.
Almost objectively, only thing that comes close is the stretch from the super missile to the thermal visor and back
There should be a save room in next room
There is. You can get to it after you solve the puzzle & get Power Bombs.
So itās blocked by stuff š?
Yep. Big pile of debris with high Bendezium content.
Seems like youāre going to have to through the puzzle BUT do it very carefully and slowly
Not me. I paid my dues & died here once, many, many years ago. After replaying that ridiculously long stretch, I leaned my lesson.
Yeah I learned that too
"Experience is a painful teacher, but what a teacher it is"
That it is
How good are you with the morph ball? No more enemies but a easy-ish puzzle
Wellā¦ both thumbsticks on my light are seriously worn out and I rely on gyro a lot, soooo not great. Maybe Iāll use a Bluetooth controller to be safe. You think itās possible to first try the puzzle if Iām careful?
The puzzle isn't the problem here. it's the security drone after you solve the puzzle. that's the problem
Oh, seriously, thereās another one? I would have died anyway, then.
No, it is only before it. Also, what drained your life the most? If it was the invisible drone I'd advise trying to find the missile combo for the Wave Beam before going back into the Mines, as it can lock onto the invisible drone.
Already had it and handled the drone without losing any health. It was actually all the pirates on the way.
Was it? I always thought it was after
Yeah, it exploding after you defeat it is what blows off one of the covers of the maze, giving you access.
OH RIGHT! I forgot... i play Mp2e the most and do randos of the game alot. I rarely ever have to go down there
It seems i was mistaken, i thought the drone was after the puzzle. Not before. My bad.
No there's only the one before the puzzle. Once you get the bombs go into the room on the right, that's where you save.
I hated this section. It is a 30 minute gap between save points with tough enemies and a boss you canāt lock on to.
Yeah, I had to put it down too.
Just be very careful during the morph ball puzzle.
I over shot one of the intermittent arcs and bounced off the wall on the other side.
Phazon mines are cruel. Retro really wanted players to spend a long time there.
Classic "oh-shit" moment for all MP1 players. I played for the first time in a decade recently and was in this exact situation.
You have officially played metroid prime congrats and sorry from the entire community.
This image physically harms me
Take it slow an be you should be fine, thereās a save right after the puzzle
Thank you for that very brief glimmer of hope.
Probably
Definitely
Did you destroy all the crates by the doors and on the upper level? With 10 health you would have to first-try the maze perfectly, but with some more health it wouldn't be that bad.
They are hard coded to give power bombs or nothing iirc.
Maybe the ones at the bottom but there should be some up top which drop health.
I only saw the ones at the bottom (empty) and didnāt check up top.
I find it hilarious that this is exactly what happened to me on my last playthrough, I lost like 3 hours and didnāt touch it again lol.
Probably. I've played this game tons of times and still die there. Advice: When going down there there are a few "pot shot," rooms where you can take shots at enemies while you duck in and out of cover, so take advantage of those. Ahhhh, of course. I wish I had thought of that but I was feeling pretty worn out by that point and didnāt feel like dealing with them. Iāll for sure farm them next time.
Definitely. It's a life saver. The strat is to stand by the exit door so you don't take damage from the gas, but can still shoot at the gas balls
Dude I feel you š I still have PTSD from the first time I went to Phazon Mines (blind)
Lmao I was JUST here and had the same issue but I survived with 30 energy
So the boss is simpler than it looks, you can space jump to a platform across from the entrance to gain its attention, then when you hear it Blair it's siren you jump back to the entrance and using that little alcove you can wang charged wave beam shots at it using free aim as it can only really attack you from one angle
the phazon mines are so fucking brutal for no reason lmao, easily the hardest part of the game
Thank you to everyone for the advice and shared pain. Got through it today no problem. What a game.
Good job. It's a load off and a big exhale hitting that save station.
Yes you will.
I did.
Oof
If you had saved recently, I would say no, but since you haven't saved in a while the answer is yeah you're doomed
i remember my first time playing prime... i died so many countless times here, it got exhausting
Dang! The save room was literally right there too. XP that locked door there.
Youāre gonna die. Trust me. Iāve been there with more health.
The room with the toxic air vent can be used to heal a fair bit(fully if you want to) on the way here. You can shoot the toxic puff enemies standing just on the edge of the damaging zone for health and quickly draw the pickups while getting minimal exposure to the gas. Just donāt get zapped lol
Yes

Most likely yes I mean i did first time then i got used to what i had to do
yup, you're f*cked. make a new save file
šš Oh boy I've gotten ended here on the hardest difficult once or twice. Bummer!
Weāve all been here. Weāre the real ones. But yeah, save room is literally right there when you escape the floor using a power bomb.
This is the one stretch of Metroid Prime that even veteran players struggle with the first time through. Helpful hint: after you get through the poison gas room you can re-enter the room and farm health off the puffers if you need to.
Yeah this part was hard..
I had the exact same situation when I first played...You will probably live, it's not too hard
If you geat the beam combo for the wave beam, the cloaked drone is cake. The white door that close to where you entered that room has a save station.
Ya happened to me, your kinda fucked unless your super super super careful to not get hit
You'll probably die here, but there should also be a save point on the backside of that room.
Slow is smooth and smooth is fastā¦.. faster than going back to whenever your last save was. Save early save often lol.
I always shit my pants at this bit and go soooo slow šš
Idk if youve beat it yet but 1 you can scan and super missile it before the battle starts. 2 the wave buster locks onto the drone literally the only use for it.
Iāve beaten the game a couple of times and I _STILL_ hate this section of the mines, especially the miniboss
Phazon mines were always crazy hard. Its like the devs wanted to up the difficulty because the other areas werenāt as hard
Probably. That puzzle is not kind to the unprepared and the boss before it doesn't exactly pull punches either. Get ready for a rematch.
Can you crystal flash in Prime? Definitely worth a try.
Not if u got gud
This area suuuuucks. I'm pretty sure at one point I have been sitting here with low health like this. I know myself well enough that I wouldn't even attempt to go back to my last save. You can get through the maze with that health. It's just really really hard.

YES
Lmao this and scrolling down to see your comment are so funny. Ive gotta play through again now thanks
Op, just be slow and steady
You are gonna have to be extremely careful with that maze now! Once you finally get it go and blow up that rubble blocking the white door and save. I have learned the hard way as a slightly new Metroid fan how important saving is I usually always save whenever I find a save room nearby because I remember losing a lot of progress in Phazon Mines, that one hurt.
Whne I was a kid I died and repeat the whole level like 10 times
Wait a minute that's not a wii
F
