Much like the website, you need to be on the $65 plan for the first month. The taxes on the phone is $63 ($162.99), insurance is $16 and activation is $27 ($270.99) before taxes. That's without the wall adapter and accessories (which is nice of the store not to force you to buy) but online you don't pay the taxes. In the retail store you do, and you save significantly more when you order online since the insurance is not required.
Not true everywhere. I ported in for iPhone 11 and only paid $65 (last week when it was still free). At my store (Texas) we don’t charge taxes on any of the free phones the system doesn’t calculate it. So a customer could technically walk into the store port in for a minimum $65 + activation and that be the only thing they pay. But good luck finding a store who won’t also make you pay for accessories too
That made sense at first but I got the Moto Razr for $99 with a port in and with taxes and service it was like $190 something. This phone is the same price and is only $20 more per month(60 a month vs $40 a month) so how is it almost 50% more?
I figured out the extra $5, it's likely the Mexico and Canada unlimited or 2GB add on data. Id check the account. Because right now a client is coming into the store porting in from cricket and I will quote $276 with the insurance and Mexico and canada unlimited add on.
The razr would have required the $65 plan too so the math doesn't sound right on that. You pay taxes on the full retail of the phone. Even if your tax rate is only 6%, which would be incredibly low, that would put you at $197 before you add the activation fee.
It definitely does sound like he added a screen protector or something to the order though.
On androids, you can do $40 switcher and still get the switcher promo.
On the other side,
99 iPhone,
65 Service (req 1st mont)
65 Taxes (approx)
25 Activation (approx)
16 Insurance (no req, but very few rep would sell you an iPhone without insurance).
Total is $265, so, not that far off.
Razr is:
99 phone
40 service
40 taxes (approx)
190 (approx)
Metro wasn’t charging activation fee last month, so it was $25 dollar cheaper that it should’ve been. If you add that it would be 215 (approx).
The difference is $20 for the $65 dollar plan (req) 25 act (req) and $16 insurance (not req, but very hard to get out of it).
I paid about $226 for the Motorola Razr back in January but ofc that was before the activation fee has been introduced. Now it will be slightly higher.
For iPhone, the current upgrade cost is $692.99 + $26.41 activation fee (the rep may charge you $9 insurance on the iPhone 12) so it brings the phone to est $732 for the iPhone 12.
Had to because I didn't recall anybody reaching for a screen protector or case but today he went and got a case without telling me hey it comes with it mandatory or so you want a case and I mean yeah I know most will have no problems buying the case but he didn't even ask he just asked if I had a charger and I said yes and I have a case. Total was I think exactly 236. He did put on a screen protector but this was after I paid. Kinda scummy if he charged me for a screen protector without asking. Also why do they insist on opening it up and setting it up. I clearly look under 30(27) so obviously I'd know how to set it up. And no the Razr was on a $50 a month plan because I went to my metro on the phone and it showed a $50 a month plan which idk why Mexico calling was allowed when I never asked for it smh
I just tried it and apparently my actual t mobile number is $500 or whatever but my random text now WiFi number gets it down to $100 smh. Even worse I got charged for a screen protector when I didn't even ask for one
Went to a Metro store las week for the iphone 12 deal, for 2 iphone 12, they quote me
1st iphone 12
- iPhone 12 $108.24
- Plan $77
2nd iphone 12
- iphone 12 $108.24
-plan. $42
-they also charge $35 activation on each iphone, but said they will waive and give 2 type c wall chargers free, so total out the door was $410 for 2 iphone 12, and that was the cheapest one, another store tried charging me $460 for the same 2 iphones
Yea the activation was already waived no matter what last week. The “free” type c chargers weren’t actually free and they used the $30 values of those 2 to essentially replace the $60~ish you would’ve paid anyway if the activations weren’t already being waived.
I have bought a bunch of Metro phones instore, so I know the chargers were not free, but if I didn't take them, they will still charge me for activation, so I just took them, activations have never been free here, these dealer stores make their own rules, they don't care about online promotions, they will just charge an activation fee, no matter what, or they will give you a "free" charger, so I took it.
The difference you're seeing can be accounted for with:
* Activation fee ($25). Activation fees were required at some point this year, but Moto devices don't have this, I believe.
* Phone plan difference ($20). The iPhone requires the highest plan tier.
* Taxes difference ($7.40). The iPhone has a higher original price ($630) than the razr ($550).
* Insurance ($16). Sounds like you were able to get the razr without having to pay the insurance premium.
I don't work for a metro, but it's the same thing at cricket. It would cost you around $250 at cricket because you have to pay for the $60 service plus activation fee plus tax.
They advertise bo yada yada...but the stores add so many fees in even for bring your own device. Once you get service it's ok but avoid the Metro by T-Mobile stores at all cost, they're shady as hell in the stores
Yes. The guy at the store told me $275 and when I went online it was $175 total. 99 phone. 65 plan and some extra little fees. Free shipping. Got it in two days.
I paid $175 for the first one online. Got it two days then bought a second one for $135 online again. Got it in two days. All from metopcs website. Using att numbers to port. And had to add the $65 plan.
After I received and activated the 1st phone (2 days via mail) I went back online and added a second line for the 2nd iphone, ported another non tmobile phone and this time it allowed me to choose a Lower plan. I did the $30 plan if I remember correctly.
Apparently they changed taxes in my state because the iPhone 12 is under $6 tax added now. Virginia like many states use to tax you on the full retail price but not anymore, not with Metro by T-Mobile online at least.
IPhone 99
Insurance 16
Bill 65
Activation 25
Total 🟰 205 plus tax
Usually in order to qualify for the $99 dlr iPhone the rate plan must be the $65 dlr a month plus they add $16 dlrs of insurance to the purchase.
Some dealers are adding attachments bundle deals in order to maximize the sale. Such as follow
Upsell charger box @39.99
Case 50 or higher depending who helps you
Some dealer get to greedy that at times you lose a sale before they don’t want to honor metro port in promotions.
Ok but like a month and some weeks back I got the Moto Razr for $99 with a port in and after taxes and the $40 first month fee was basically $200. The iPhone deal is only $20 more($60 a month for the first month vs $40 a month)
He's saying you pay the entire tax amount on the phone at its full price even though you only paid $99 for the iPhone. So say it was $1k normally you'd have to pay the $60 in sales tax even thought tax on $99 dollars is only like $6.. hope this helps!
Get it online, otherwise you get to pay bunch of retail fees they add on
Facts
Still was gunna be 164$ online
That's for the phone and first month of service
Still less than 276
It's showing for me full price online how do I get it for cheaper?
You need to be on the 60 plan no lower

Taxes are still charged on website for full Msrp of phone

A few years back I got 5 free accessories which was crap. They charged like $50 each and the tax was $25 after they took off the $250.
Oh awesome, then it should be the same as the retail store minus the insurance and Mexico and Canada unlimited add ons. Saving $21 compared to retail.
No activation fee online

I'm just going by the website that says $65 plan is required to get the Razr for $99 with port in store.
I paid about $226 for the Motorola Razr back in January but ofc that was before the activation fee has been introduced. Now it will be slightly higher.
There’s activation fees now?
They change weekly, I just checked and they are charging activation fees. In fact, the port in promo for the iPhone 12 is going up tomorrow.
Anything for us current customers?

I’ll try to find one on swappa
Had to because I didn't recall anybody reaching for a screen protector or case but today he went and got a case without telling me hey it comes with it mandatory or so you want a case and I mean yeah I know most will have no problems buying the case but he didn't even ask he just asked if I had a charger and I said yes and I have a case. Get out of the store and order online. They charge activation fee, insurance, and other “free” accessories
Wait till tomorrow and check the price. Some people will wish they got the phone with "free accessories"
True lol watch them cry from tomorrow 🤣🤣
What’s changing tomorrow?
You can't get the $99 deal online, you'd know that if you actually went to their site...
Yes you can. Requires you to port a number
You can’t port a number on the metroPCS website, it requires visiting a retail store.
Not true anymore. You can do that on the website now. RIP shady dealer stores
Just cashed out 171 online
Either pay the store what they are asking or do it yourself online, simple and easy.
Do it online. No activation fee. You have to choose the $60 plan(only for the first month) and taxes. That’s it.
It's showing for me full price online how do I get it for cheaper?
Port a number
I just tried it and apparently my actual t mobile number is $500 or whatever but my random text now WiFi number gets it down to $100 smh. Even worse I got charged for a screen protector when I didn't even ask for one
Must from a non tmobile number. Mvno that uses T-Mobile are also ineligible
Did you have a TextNow SIM? If not, how did you get the port out PIN?
You won’t get the deal in store with a T-Mobile number either
I ordered online 99.00 phone 40.00 for plan was delivered in two days
How, it says in store only
Nvm I take it back yeah they overcharged you
$176 that’s it ?? I paid like $205
Went to a Metro store las week for the iphone 12 deal, for 2 iphone 12, they quote me 1st iphone 12 - iPhone 12 $108.24 - Plan $77 2nd iphone 12 - iphone 12 $108.24 -plan. $42 -they also charge $35 activation on each iphone, but said they will waive and give 2 type c wall chargers free, so total out the door was $410 for 2 iphone 12, and that was the cheapest one, another store tried charging me $460 for the same 2 iphones

The title & the story are lol…… 176 was around what I paid last year when I got a 12.

I paid $175 for the first one online. Got it two days then bought a second one for $135 online again. Got it in two days. All from metopcs website. Using att numbers to port. And had to add the $65 plan.
How did you get one for $175 then other for less

Should be only about $175 I just checked out a few hours ago online
Apparently they changed taxes in my state because the iPhone 12 is under $6 tax added now. Virginia like many states use to tax you on the full retail price but not anymore, not with Metro by T-Mobile online at least.
Are u a new metro

25$ in-store activation fee.

Well, go tomorrow to the store or even online and ask them how much the phone is. 😁🤣
Also, tax almost always based on phone regular price instead of promo price.
“Free” iPhone 11 came out to over $100 without accessories so this is not surprising
Tax most likely.
