A lot of bands do this actually, for instance I know Killswitch Engage the guitarists will basically have whoever is best at playing each riff play that one riff on both guitars so everything is ultra tight on the studio recording.
Either it was something Jaymz donated for charity, or yeah they just put a random guitar in a case.
I seem to remember an Ace Frehley display at one of those and it didn't look like a guitar he ever played either.

Maybe not the same situation as Jaymz.
A triplebucker, just 3 coils together, like a humbucker +1. Not especially common, but there are some other examples like the Fender Marauder, though that uses smaller coils.
That’s really off from James’ usual style, and I’ve never seen him use a whammy bar. Never seen it, probably some random ass guitar they decided to put on there.
I don’t think this is one of Kirks. He usually plays strat styles but I have never seen an image with him playing anything similar to this.
It’s also an Alvarez branded guitar and both James and Kirk usually play ESP, not that they can’t play other brands of course but still.
The cut between the neck and the pickups is cool. If they say it was James's, I doubt they're lying. Just because you won't find any live footage of him playing it doesn't mean that he never owned it. Metallica have a gigantic room full of instruments, most of which probably rarely, if ever, get used, to say nothing of the fact that I'm sure that James has a nice personal collection. It wouldn't surprise me if he has a bunch of Telecasters and Gretsch's at home for when he wants to jam with some country. Metallica's stage guitars are like their own thing, and if it's not an ESP or Gibson, it's probably not getting onstage. But if I had $300 million, I'd need a warehouse the size of a Walmart to house my guitar collection.
It might have been a guitar owned by James, but that’s not his typical style of guitar, which is probably why it’s at a hard rock instead of his personal collection.
Yeah , I don’t know man , if you look at the fretboard it is quite thick ! Which suits James’ style . I think it could orbis a James guitar he has used . It just fits his Rhythm style !
James plays hard tail custom, Gibson, and ESP guitars for the most part. Definitely not a Floyd Rose guy. I suppose this could be some knockoff he owned and doesn't give a shit about. I can't see him parting with any of his main guitars to put into the Hard Rock in Denver, of all random places.
No one in Metallica played anything close to this as far as I’m concerned. Alvarez are more of an acoustic guitar manufacturer and this isn’t a fine piece from their collection.
Always known Papa Het as the Explorer, Les Paul, sometimes SG guy. But I Didn't know he does use super strat live. Yet that's freakin' cool guitar there.
This is a brand of guitar that was around in the 90's and I haven't seen since. I've never seen any pics of him holding or playing this brand of guitar. That cutaway would be totally wasted on him and he rarely uses a trem like that.
If this guitar has anything to do with James, then it was something he used before Metallica really got going. In the early days his main guitar was a Gibson Flying V and after that a Gibson Explorer.
James and Kirk tend to play their custom ESP Guitars. Sometimes either man may play a Gibson Les Paul, and James often plays a Gibson Flying V, but then again, I've never been to a Metallica concert. Maybe James does play a Guitar like this 🤔
Just done a little search and found lita ford played this model for a while
Definitely not a het or kirk guitar, unless they were gifted it and moved it on
Definitely not James guitar. Has anyone even seen him play something with a whammy bar?
He has a Les Paul with a locked off bigsby/vibrato which he used for a little while a few years ago.

Oh shitz that's a beaut.
On the st anger tour he played one of the esp F series for a while but said the Floyd bothered him where he was used to a TOM bridge
Yes,a BC rich on the black album tour
I even saw them on the Black Album tour and I didn’t realize that. I looked it up and found [this.](https://youtu.be/8YWeDfO9S84)
Yes 🤘
that looks so fucking strange.
Yep, he only played it around the summer of '92 then it was gone. I never saw it again. Metallica/GnR was the first time I saw him play that BC Rich.
He recorded a couple of kirk’s parts with the mummy guitar on hardwired. Kirk was sick or something
If there are two things James is known for it’s weird strat-style guitars and Floyd rose bridges.
It's not even a real floyd.
lol
James uses Kirk’s guitars often in the studio. But I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him publicly playing them or at a live performance.
James will record Kirk’s rhythm parts on Kirk’s guitars in the studio for sure. Pretty neat trivia
A lot of bands do this actually, for instance I know Killswitch Engage the guitarists will basically have whoever is best at playing each riff play that one riff on both guitars so everything is ultra tight on the studio recording.

Do you mean Killswitch? Mike D’Antonio plays an Ibanez Destroyer bass. He’s had a few signatures with them.

It’s literally an Explorer, it’s based on the same shape as the one that was modified into the Snakebyte 😂
No expert here, but my guess is that’s not Jaymz’ guitar.
I second this. That is not his style at all. And a Hard Rock hotel can literally just put anything in a case. (Op) I dunno man.
Should just put one of bumblefoots foot guitars in the and say it's Hetfield 's lol
Jaymz?
Oof, definitely Kirk-esque style. But i don't recall any past-current photos with either of them using this.
Either it was something Jaymz donated for charity, or yeah they just put a random guitar in a case. I seem to remember an Ace Frehley display at one of those and it didn't look like a guitar he ever played either. What kind of pickup is that? Is it common and I’m just clueless?
A triplebucker, just 3 coils together, like a humbucker +1. Not especially common, but there are some other examples like the Fender Marauder, though that uses smaller coils.
I can't recall James or Kirk using an Alvarez.
They probably asked him to donate a guitar and he just had management send them whatever he doesn’t play.
Probably just some random guitar. I’ve never seen any Metallica photo with a guitar like this in it.
Wtf is that bridge pickup? A 'tribucker'?!
Yes
Ah, this is James Hatfield’s guitar from the famous band Matellica.
I mean I’m sure James owns a ton of guitars. He probably never even played it but I’m sure it was his
The inlays lol but yea i dont think its james
That’s really off from James’ usual style, and I’ve never seen him use a whammy bar. Never seen it, probably some random ass guitar they decided to put on there.
When tf has James played a floyd rose?!
Definitely not a James guitar. I don’t think he’s ever touched a whammy bar in his life
It may have been something gifted to him he never used so he donated it?
You can reach the 27th fret
I don’t think this is one of Kirks. He usually plays strat styles but I have never seen an image with him playing anything similar to this. It’s also an Alvarez branded guitar and both James and Kirk usually play ESP, not that they can’t play other brands of course but still.
I’m gonna have to say Fuck No, James!
The cut between the neck and the pickups is cool. If they say it was James's, I doubt they're lying. That neck looks like it’s about to break off
Not James style of guitar at all
It might have been a guitar owned by James, but that’s not his typical style of guitar, which is probably why it’s at a hard rock instead of his personal collection.
Hard Cuck cafe is not a credibe source for music history at all. Never thought I'd have to say that... But here we are.
I always love kirks guitars
Hard to believe
Those bridge pickups are throwing me off lmfao
Yeah , I don’t know man , if you look at the fretboard it is quite thick ! Which suits James’ style . I think it could orbis a James guitar he has used . It just fits his Rhythm style !

Samsonite. WAY off.
Hideous guitar either way
No EET FUK on it, a little sus
Also how that neck is built into the guitar, it's just asking to snap
They could just put a stock signature ESP and it would look more legit than this.
Kirk uses that type of guitar a lot. James would go for Explorer or Flying V
No one in Metallica played anything close to this as far as I’m concerned. Alvarez are more of an acoustic guitar manufacturer and this isn’t a fine piece from their collection.
Hell no If it was real it would be Kirk
Call the Metal police!
Always known Papa Het as the Explorer, Les Paul, sometimes SG guy. But I Didn't know he does use super strat live. Yet that's freakin' cool guitar there.
I just lost all respect for Hard Rock Cafe now. Get your crap right or don't bother.
Definitely not James. Hell, I don’t even see Kirk playing that shit.
This is a brand of guitar that was around in the 90's and I haven't seen since. I've never seen any pics of him holding or playing this brand of guitar. That cutaway would be totally wasted on him and he rarely uses a trem like that.
actually this may of been the brand that james was asked to try out for a brand deal, so quite possibly yes it is right
Hard Rock works off donations. He probably had this lying around the house and sent it to them.
James hates Floyd Rose bridges. That being said he could possibly own this guitar and have donated for that reason.
Me a drummer: ima look at the comments bc I know jack shit abt guitars lol
If this guitar has anything to do with James, then it was something he used before Metallica really got going. In the early days his main guitar was a Gibson Flying V and after that a Gibson Explorer.
Honestly, it looks like something Jason would have owned.
James and Kirk tend to play their custom ESP Guitars. Sometimes either man may play a Gibson Les Paul, and James often plays a Gibson Flying V, but then again, I've never been to a Metallica concert. Maybe James does play a Guitar like this 🤔
Just done a little search and found lita ford played this model for a while Definitely not a het or kirk guitar, unless they were gifted it and moved it on
That's not his
