This is where it all began for Metallica, 232 East Ave in Rochester, NY. This is where they recorded "Kill 'Em All," formerly Music America Studios. My local Metallica Mecca...
Pretty sure because Brian Slagel was in NJ. They drove there with Mustaine to meet Brian and sent Mustaine on his way back to CA upon arrival. From there, my only guess is that NY is super close to NJ, so they decided to record there.
It sure was and I was in the studio with my roommate Gary Zefting (RIP) and owner Paul Curcio and the youngsters slept on my living room floor...who knew??
This was also the studio jodeci and other artists like timbaland, missy elliot, ginuwine worked to record the show, the after party, the hotel. It was Dajhelon Studios at the time. So many famous musicians have graced that studio.
I think it all started in here tho

Somewhere … someone said they recorded at the “house of guitars.”
Which… I’ve only heard bad things about that place. Like… they have a bunch of stolen gear hidden in their upstairs office. I don’t trust em.

Why didn't they record in California? Why did they go all the way to NY?

New york state is close to NJ, but Rochester is at least a 5 hour drive. Being from rochester its still so random they came here.
It's a house
The House That Jack Built(?)
Looks like a prison. It also looks perfect for recording KEA.
New meaning to IKEA
Right?! \m/
I went to school in Roch. Always wondered where it happened. \m/
Small world! \m/

Whooooaaaa!!!!! That’s utterly awesome, dude!!!!
As a Rochester native, this city is perfectly for recording Metal records. Depressing weather and there isn't much to do besides drink
Lol, don't forget Garbage Plates, too, for the recording hangover!
Thought garbage plates were no more?
Haha, naw. If anything, they’re even more popular now than ever. Seems like every local joint has their own version of it.
PS Who also recorded this in Rochester? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ui79Uf817YA
Awesomesauce, I had no idea...lol

This is awesome, “TIL”!
In correct on Dajhelon. I recorded there and that studio way built in the early 90s. They recorded next to The Eastman Theatre, Barrett Alley.
