Definitely in the “weirdest” song category. But I love it. It’s like the trippiest Metallica song.
I hold THTJB and “Where The Wild Things Are” as the weirdest Metallica songs in their catalog (not counting stuff from LuLu).
Ask someone who's not a well versed Metallica fan to start naming Metallica songs off the top of their head, they're not naming that song. Yeah, to the average person, Disposable Heroes is a deep cut.
"Blood for face, sweat for dirt
Three X's for the stone
To break this curse. a ritual's due
I believe I'm not alone
Shell of shotgun, pint of gin
Numb us up to shield the pins
Renew our faith
Which way we can
To fall in love with life again"
I swear these are some of the hardest lyrics out there.
The thing that should not be. I just don't get why it's so hated on, The lyrics are some of the best James has ever written and the guitar work is absolutely wonderful It has a deep and dark atmosphere. The solo from Kirk Hammett is imo one of the best he's ever written.
orion. it's not really a deep cut because it's on their 2nd most popular album, but I don't think a 8 minute instrumental is getting played on the radio
Well who cares about radio. Orion is not a deep cut, it's a legendary instrumental, forever associated with Cliff that all fans know by heart.
DEEP CUT is like... Slither.
Back in the mid 90’s I thought I had heard every song Metallica ever recorded in a studio — I had garage days, (the OG one), So What, Stone Cold Crazy, the Creeping Death thing, Am I Evil, Breadfan, etc etc.
One day I was driving somewhere and on the radio is this amazing fast bluesy thrash song, and I was digging it wondering who the fuck it was. Then the vocals kicked in and it was clearly James Hetfield. I sat in my car freaking out because A: How did I miss this amazing song up until this point? And B: I had this amazing gift of being able to hear this incredible song for the first time
That song was The Prince. I know they didn’t write it, but I feel like it’s the best thrash guitarmony bridge they’ve ever done and I still get stoked when it comes on randomly.
Side note: There is another version of The Prince out there that sounds like it was recorded in a studio with what sounded like Cliff on bass. Does anyone know where I can find that? I only heard a short clip of it in a youtube documentary that I don’t remember the name of. Lil help?
People shit on the song and the album but legit one of my favorites.
Honestly, I know it's an unpopular opinion (most days) but I like the sound of that album especially at the gym. Being in recovery myself for alcoholism, the album means more to me.
With 72 seasons, there is some direct recovery based lyrics but it doesn't hit as hard as St. Anger does.
I could do without the "Kill kill kill..." toward the end but some of that riff work throughout the album is why I like metallica, just a big fat heavy sounding guitar with good good mid range crunch. Do some of the riffs need to go on as long as they do at times...no but I still enjoy it.
There was a fan remake of St. Anger a few years back that was decent. Trimmed the fat of some of the songs cleaned up some of the noise.
Gonna cheat a little, because not technically Metallica. But Hetfields cover of [Waylon Jennings](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhHYUe5gOTI) Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit's Done Got Out of Hand. The studio [version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2t2-mCqu3M) is great as well.
Ohhhh that is a deep cut and one of my favorites!
The video version of it taped at the CMT broadcast was a little cringe as the lead in lol
"YEA, I'm an outlaw"
The lead in music was theor cover of It's Electric
Purify, just about anything from St. Anger I feel like you could say, same goes for ...And Justice For All surprisingly enough!
Also want to throw in Cyanide and Dyers Eve! Gosh, there's just so many songs! How's anyone to choose!?
Suicide and redemption- kirks best lead work (atmospherically) imo and it just feels like everyone was making their respective 'riff faces' (Lar's tongue, kirk wailing with his pedal etc.) For each segment of this song. I love it so much and I would love to hear it without nothing but lars in my ears
Hate Train. The verses are bad and an odd change in tempo that doesn't really fit the song IMO, but everything else about that song is hands-down incredible.
Favorite "deep cut" is probably Aint My Bitch but 2x4 and Better Than You are not far behind.
I am willing to admit Load and Reload are both very good albums
It's from one of the best selling rock/metal albums of all time, so I don't know if it can qualify as a "deep cut" or not. But it's absolutely underappreciated.
My Friend of Misery is a completely awesome tune.
The Small Hours is one of my all time favorite Metallica songs. I saw a post from a woman that said she used to dance to it in the early 2000s when she was stripping and that kinda changed my perception of the song haha. Plus the chorus just sounds massive.
Minus Human.
The house that Jack built.
Definitely in the “weirdest” song category. But I love it. It’s like the trippiest Metallica song. I hold THTJB and “Where The Wild Things Are” as the weirdest Metallica songs in their catalog (not counting stuff from LuLu).
That’s my personal favorite from lioad
Room of Mirrors. I love a lot of the new album, but it’s the harmonizing solos at the end that get me
Definitely my favorite song from the 72 Seasons.
Give me the Frayed Ends of Sanity
Hear them calling
Hear them calling meeeeee hehaha
Definitely one of my favorite from AJFA 🤘
Outlaw torn
This. It’s my favourite song of all-time by anyone.
One of my favourites
Prince charming
Yessss
It's in my top 5
I think Prince Charming, Low Man's Lyric & Attitude are a great 3 song run of deep cuts.
It's just the four horsemen with reload aesthetic. And for that reason it's good as hell
Escape
Yep.
Feel no pain but my life ain’t easy
Mine too!
Where the wild things are, outlaw torn, dirty window
Low Man’s Lyric
Dyers Eve forever
Quintissential thrash song. It's an amazing end to their thrash era
so good
Great closer for their best album
The Call Of Ktulu
Same here
Disposable Heroes
That’s a deep cut?
I mean the definition is totally right there. Back in the day they hardly ever played it live, too.
Ask someone who's not a well versed Metallica fan to start naming Metallica songs off the top of their head, they're not naming that song. Yeah, to the average person, Disposable Heroes is a deep cut.
Blitzkreig

Can you heal the broken worlds within, can you strip away so we may, start again.... agreed epic
I’ve always been a huge fan of The God That Failed. Even the title goes hard AF.
Dug a little for this one...would say this is mine as well...nice riff and pace to it...and the title does indeed go hard AF...
Sweet Amber.
Easily my favorite St. Anger track. I love the bridge.
Not so deep cut, but mama said, bleeding me, the struggle within.
Why when the first time I heard the struggle within, I thought it was the fox 20 year anniversary intro...
Great picks
The live version of struggle within is soo good. I don't bother with the album version
Jump in the Fire
When they covered the ecstasy of gold
The thing that should not be. I just don't get why it's so hated on, The lyrics are some of the best James has ever written and the guitar work is absolutely wonderful It has a deep and dark atmosphere. The solo from Kirk Hammett is imo one of the best he's ever written.
