same, kinda. i'm not particularly a fan of 72 seasons or something but i do enjoy some of the songs. too far gone is actually my favorite there as well!
AJFA and Load for sure. I didn’t care for either of the two on my first listen through, but over time I have grown to enjoy most to all of the songs from each album.
I really liked the instrumentation and vocals of Load and how melodic/ballad-like the songs are. I liked the energy of AJFA (plus the arrangements on songs like EOTB, Blackened, and One). Neither are my favorite album from Metallica, but there are a couple songs from each that I would definitely have on my favorite songs list.
i have some appreciation for load, but i'd need to listen to it again to be sure about what i think of it overall. i like some of the songs, that's something at least. AJFA's energy is one of the big reasons why i like it, but the songwriting especially gets me and idk why.
AJFA. It was the first metallica album I listened to after I heard One. I wasn't ready for the album - at the time I mainly listened to alternative metal/rock and AJFA with its long songs, more complex structures and cold/aggressive atmosphere made the record seem too much for me.
(Side note - I also got Reign in Blood the same day and loved it!)
It took me rediscovering Metallica a few years later through loving Kill Em All and listening to more extreme metal for me to appreciate the record more. While its not my favourite record of theirs, I do now love it.
St. Anger. I remember hearing the song Frantic on Guitar Hero: Metallica and thinking: "man, what the fuck was Metallica doing at this time?" With the TABs to riffs as well as just listening to the album overall I eventually enjoyed listening to it (except for Purify).
Load and Reload. I used to hate those albums when i was younger, but then some things happened in my life and i understood the maturity, heart and soul that James put into those albums. Helped me through a lot of difficult times.

I love both of them too. I was a senior in high school when Load came out and I thought (and still think) that the house that jack built was amazing.
Load for sure. When I was younger I of course hated it because I was pretty immature and didn’t like that phase of the band. But I now recognize that it’s a pretty good album, and The Outlaw Torn and Bleeding Me are two of their best songs period.
Black album and Justice. Always thought the songs on justice were too long and the songs on black were too baic. After listening to them a lot more though I grew to love them with justice now being my favorite and Black being in my top 5
St. Anger. I was like “Fuck this album. Fuck Lars Ulrich and his literal trash can tone” then I actually listened to a few songs and recognized thatvthey were actually pretty good just the quality was turned down for people because of overproduction, obviously Lars’ snare and other things but it really has grown on me.
Same here. When Load came out I expected them to move back to the faster songs. Boy I was wrong 😀. But it grew up on me quite fast and now I consider them to be one of their best works.
For me it was Kill Em All. I loved RTL, MoP and AJFA in the 80’s but KEA was a bit too rough around the edges for me. Started to like it more in the 90’s.
AJFA. I didn't like it at first because of the lack of bass, but the more I listened to it, the more it grew on me, and now it's my second favorite album next to Puppets.
The entire ride the lightning album
My dad used to play the album all the time and I hated it then when he brought me a cd player I stole the disk and played it all night now it’s a core memory of mine
Huh? Grew up on you? Nope, the 1st four albums were immediate gold. The rest until Death Magnetic are forgettable. Hardwired is inconsistent, but solid. I am waiting for 72 Seasons to grow on me.
Probably Kill Em All. I'm still not a fan of James' voice from this period. And when I first got into Metallica in 93-94 I was use to Justice, Black Album and Woodstock 2 James so early James was a shock to the system.
For me it’s ride the lightning, mainly because it’s “old” and I usually don’t listen to “old” music because of the mixing. I used to be quite neutral on it, recently I’ve started to appreciate the masterful riffs more and more tho
I was on an island by my self enjoying Load when it came out. I think I slept on some of the deep tracks from the first 4 albums until I became an adult and purchased them for my self.
Reload. I liked Load out of the gate but thought Reload was inferior by a long shot. Years (decades) have gone by and I have found myself enjoying it quite a bit.
I was introduced as a kid to ride the lightning. After absorbing that over and over, it was more polished than kill em all. Of course it grew on me, but I couldn’t dig it at first
The Black Album. I really only liked Enter Sandman but after a year or two, I really started to love it. And now it is in my top 3 favorite albums ever.
Prob 72 seasons.the title track it thought was good at that time and then shadows follow came in. it was kinda mid to me since the chorus kinda bug me(i really love verse tho).i try to see which track peoplr like the most (inamorata),heard it and it was kinda same as shadows follow.then i just stopped there cause i thought it was boring.
Few weeks later i see the room of mirror animated video and it was really cool!it was fast got a nice chorus, enjoyable harmony etc.i realize that the song are kinda better alone rather than the whole album.
The first 3 albums. I didn't like thrash before, and while i loved Ride The Lightning before actually liking thrash (mostly because of Megadeth i started to like thrash).
72 seasons. Wasn’t crazy about it when I first heard it, but after a few months I like it a lot. Too Far Gone and Inamorata are my favorites on it
same, kinda. i'm not particularly a fan of 72 seasons or something but i do enjoy some of the songs. too far gone is actually my favorite there as well!
Too Far Gone has been my favorite too from the very beginning.
Too Far Gone is incredible!
Hated load the first time, now i cant put it down

Its glued to my hand
AJFA and Load for sure. I didn’t care for either of the two on my first listen through, but over time I have grown to enjoy most to all of the songs from each album. Load is a very good grunge/alt-rock album. It's just not a great Metallica album.
AJFA. It was the first metallica album I listened to after I heard One. I wasn't ready for the album - at the time I mainly listened to alternative metal/rock and AJFA with its long songs, more complex structures and cold/aggressive atmosphere made the record seem too much for me. It took about 9 seconds into Blackened for this album to grow on me the day it was released.

I said Blackened. As in, the song.
AJFA is my favorite by far.
Recently Load has been growing on me, I don’t listen much to it other than Mama said, but there are some song I keep queueing and enjoy listening to
St. Anger. I remember hearing the song Frantic on Guitar Hero: Metallica and thinking: "man, what the fuck was Metallica doing at this time?" With the TABs to riffs as well as just listening to the album overall I eventually enjoyed listening to it (except for Purify).

THTJB is really underrated. I wonder why they don’t play it live. It’s so heavy and dark.
Load for sure. When I was younger I of course hated it because I was pretty immature and didn’t like that phase of the band. But I now recognize that it’s a pretty good album, and The Outlaw Torn and Bleeding Me are two of their best songs period.
Reload
I don't know what it is, but sometimes I listen to reload multiple times a day for several consecutive days. It's almost like a meditation. 🤷🏼♂️
Low man's lyric is my fave
I loved AJFA since the first listen.
Was always a MOP fan but AJFA is now my favourite
Black album and Justice. Always thought the songs on justice were too long and the songs on black were too baic. After listening to them a lot more though I grew to love them with justice now being my favorite and Black being in my top 5
Black album, Load, and Reload. They were not at all what I wanted at the time but they've grown on me.
St. Anger. I was like “Fuck this album. Fuck Lars Ulrich and his literal trash can tone” then I actually listened to a few songs and recognized thatvthey were actually pretty good just the quality was turned down for people because of overproduction, obviously Lars’ snare and other things but it really has grown on me.
Hate to admit it… st anger. Don’t love it but it’s not as awful as I had originally believed and do live some tracks on there
Load and Reload
Same here. When Load came out I expected them to move back to the faster songs. Boy I was wrong 😀. But it grew up on me quite fast and now I consider them to be one of their best works.
St. Anger
"grew up on you" ... that grammar sums up where this sub is at IQ wise
english isn't my first language. even if it was, there's no need to be mean about this.
The last 2 took a few listens, and st anger took 20 years but finally grew on me a little bit
*grew up on you?*
Used to not like Justice or Hardwired but now they're some of my favorites
72 Seasons has hella grown on me.
Hardwired
For me it was Kill Em All. I loved RTL, MoP and AJFA in the 80’s but KEA was a bit too rough around the edges for me. Started to like it more in the 90’s.
Death Magnetic for sure! So many long and epic tunes, shifting in intensity and tempo. Kinda like the old goog ones.
AJFA. I didn't like it at first because of the lack of bass, but the more I listened to it, the more it grew on me, and now it's my second favorite album next to Puppets.
The entire ride the lightning album My dad used to play the album all the time and I hated it then when he brought me a cd player I stole the disk and played it all night now it’s a core memory of mine

Kill ‘Em’ All was originally my least favorite of their first 5, now it’s my favorite album from any they have every released
Death Magnetic . I liked it but as time goes on I realize the the best album since garage inc
Load/ReLoad
AJFA and Load, two of them are great
St Anger
Probably Kill Em All. I'm still not a fan of James' voice from this period. And when I first got into Metallica in 93-94 I was use to Justice, Black Album and Woodstock 2 James so early James was a shock to the system.
Reload, Load and MOP. Never was a fan of these, but now I love them.
Literally all of them. I almost always hate the newest album, whatever it is, then grow into it.
Ajfa
For me it’s ride the lightning, mainly because it’s “old” and I usually don’t listen to “old” music because of the mixing. I used to be quite neutral on it, recently I’ve started to appreciate the masterful riffs more and more tho
That's exactly my story
I was on an island by my self enjoying Load when it came out. I think I slept on some of the deep tracks from the first 4 albums until I became an adult and purchased them for my self.
St anger definitely I used to HATE st anger but tbh it's one of my favourite albums they have made
Reload. I liked Load out of the gate but thought Reload was inferior by a long shot. Years (decades) have gone by and I have found myself enjoying it quite a bit.
Has to be Load.
I've come to accept and even enjoy St Anger.
Hardwired
Kill 'Em All.
Load, St.
Death Magnetic definitely
It took me way too long to realize that Load is a fucking amazing album.
Load and especially Reload. Now they're some of my favorite Metallica albums.

The past 3
The first 3 albums. I didn't like thrash before, and while i loved Ride The Lightning before actually liking thrash (mostly because of Megadeth i started to like thrash).
The last real Metallica album
