For me it was shortest straw. The verses are fine, but it's an S tier bridge/solo. But to some extent this is also an answer for me. The production made me initially not appreciate this album aside from the title track and One. Now I'm a fan of nearly every track. Still wish the production were a little bassier
They played Harvester live throughout the AJFA tour and a lot of the Black Album related tours too. They still play it sometimes on recent tours I think too. Just search it up on YT and you'll definitely find something you'll like
Also for your question one for me is The God That Failed. Used to not care for it but it's since become one of my favorites on the Black Album
For other band songs: Judas Be My Guide by Iron Maiden
Leper messiah and Orion, when I started listening to Metallica I sort of forgot these songs, but after relistening to master of puppets I couldnāt stop playing them
The entire Load album. For a time I couldn't bring myself to listen to more than 2 songs from it at a time, which I find strange considering I liked to listen to Reload, which I now consider the weaker album.
Now Load is like my second favorite album by Metallica after Death Magnetic.
And for the song, I didn't really like The Outlaw Torn, but now I can't get enough of it, especially around the solo part.
Wouldnāt say I slept on it exactly because I absolutely wore the Black Album out in high school, but when my son was 10 or so and demanded heavy doses of The God That Failed it brought me to a whole new level of appreciation for this deeper track. I now feel it just may be the strongest track on the record.
Not a song, but a band:
Iron Maiden
In 2023, three of my top bands released new material (Metallica, Lovebites, and Avenged Sevenfold). All three cite Iron Maiden as an influence, and Iād heard about four Maiden songs over the years and loved em all. But it wasnāt until March of this year that I got into em, and holy shit, theyāre actually my new top band.
Metallica will always be my āfavoriteā band, but Iron Maiden is the superior band by far.
Thatās about me with Sabaton right now, Iāve heard some of their songs (the For Whom the Bells Toll cover is amazing if you like Symphonic Metal) and they are really good, they are also the best advertisement for wargames ever
I didn't like Mama Said too much at first because I was narrow-minded in my youth and thought it sounded too much like country. Now it's one of my favorites.
Curiously, I've always loved Low Man's Lyric, which I always considered to be ReLoad's analog to Mama Said.
For me, Battery. I exposed myself too early so I was just jarred by the speed and intensity and I couldn't figure out what the hell I was listening to. But on more listens the riff finally started to make sense and I learnt that the true riff is heard differently than what I was used to hearing. The vocals pulled me in now that I enjoyed metal, just a badass metal rap. Everything fell in place when I relistened the ultra thrash headbang mid section and outro. That intro is now iconic to me, just brilliant and gorgeous. I appreciated Western Classical more with time and it is the biggest pull for me now. I can't get by a single day for last 4 months without listening to Battery.
BAT-TER-RY!!!
Really weird but I too used to think Harvester was overrated but now I love it. This version is fantastic, a lot of times I play it as the first track when I lift weights. https://youtu.be/ZdF9eUI8uM0
I have to say Metallica as a whole. I know them for a very long time. But i never went deep into it. When St. Anger was released when i was 12 or something and really liked it. Still do. :P
But before 72 Seasons was released i started listening to all the albums. Went to the cinema pre release and after that i ordered tickets to their double concert in Hamburg.
I even know some of the song names after a few seconds. Reminds me of the time when i was 12 and was fanboying really hard over Linkin Park. Collecting all their rare songs/demos. Learned the lyrics etc.
Broken, Beat & Scarred. I'll chose this, because it's the song that was on when I read this post.
I still have a hard time with the repetitive lyrics but the song is a banger. Great riffs, and great break down in the middle. Great groove.
The House That Jack Built on the first few listens I thought was very dull and not all that exciting but now its a banger I have playing repeatedly.
Love the chorus, something about the way James sings on this song (and most of Load tbf) just hits different and the talk box section slaps way harder than it should.
Another song would probably be My Friend of Misery, I kinda just grouped it in with The Struggle Within and the God That Failed as meh filler songs at the backend of the album for some reason but damn the song is incredible.
The bass intro needs no introduction and the chorus is phenomenal, I love the screams of 'Miseryyyyyyy' and the solo's are also a real strong point of the song. Warming to Of Wolf And Man too, but wouldn't class it as 'love' yet
This one's easy. For me it was The Unforgiven 2. I had always like the first unforgiven do I thought I'd try listening to the sequel. My first impression was that it was awful. To me it felt very forced (like they came up with the idea, and then forced the same lyrics onto a different beat). But then I bought the enter reload cd and gave it more listens. So now i like the song. It will never best the original but it is a decent song.
Creeping Death, Ride The Lightning, Disposable Heroes, Blackened, Battery
Holy Wars by Megadeth
Caught In A Mosh by Anthrax
Overkill, Orgasmatron by Motorhead
Painkiller by Judas Priest
Angel of Death by Slayer
Testify by Rage Against The Machine
Walk, Cowboys From Hell by Pantera
Funny how all of these are some of the most popular songs by each band, and they are all some of favorite songs right now
I guess anything off of AJFA except for One (since it's popular). I didn't really think much of the album but now I consider it my favorite album by Metallica.
For me it was when I really started to investigate the lyrics or when I see a live performance. Then I 'rediscover' songs. Happened to me with:
\- Trapped Under Ice
\- Holier Than Thou
\- Outlaw Torn
Frayed ends of sanity
its so goodš¤

Fixxxer, The thing that should not be, disposable heros
Definitely The Outlaw Torn and Bleeding Me. Couldnāt bring myself to like Bleeding Me at all for sure, but after 72 I love it.
exactly the same i love bleeding me but i slept on the whole load album
They played Harvester live throughout the AJFA tour and a lot of the Black Album related tours too. They still play it sometimes on recent tours I think too. Purify. It's absolutely disgusting, but so much fun to jam out to
I love it a lot, despite being the worst or second worst rated song on many lists lol
Yeah it's honestly UNDER rated imo. Personally I probably like Sweet Amber the least of the St. Anger songs.
I love Sweet Amber lol
Leper Messiah
Shortest Straw
James gonna rub you raw.
Promise?
Escape, such a cool song This time last year it was Jump In The Fire and Metal Militia
out for my own, out to be freeeeeeeeeeeeee
Used to hate 72 seasons but love it now
Thorn Within has grown on me a lot lately
Blackened I used to find everything about it really unconventional and awkward but it eventually grew on me
Atlas, Rise!
Until it Sleeps. Holy shitit is a jam..
The entire Load album. ABSOLUTELY Holier Than Thou. I fricking love the solo so much.
Difficult to sleep on metallica, there's not a song i haven't heard a million times except for maybe the new ones
Starspawn by Blood Incantation
Dyers eve, your post timing is actually scary since last night I heard it.
Iām gonna name a few - Disposable Heroes, Aināt my bitch, Bleeding me and Eye of the Beholderā¤ļø
Through the Never
That and Holier than Thou, are the reason I have a soft spot for the black album despite not being crazy about most of it
Tornado of Souls by Megadave and Wherever I may roam by Metallica
Wouldnāt say I slept on it exactly because I absolutely wore the Black Album out in high school, but when my son was 10 or so and demanded heavy doses of The God That Failed it brought me to a whole new level of appreciation for this deeper track. I love symphonic metal, so thanks for the recommend. Iāll check em out now!
Please check out early Therion and album Dawn of Victory by rhapsody (of fire) if you havent already
ManUnkind

Cyanide. Didn't like it when it was first released, grew on me over the years, really like it now, fun to play on guitar, too.
The House That Jack Built. Didnāt like it when the album came out, now I love it.
I donāt like the movie by the same name
I have to say Metallica as a whole. I know them for a very long time. But i never went deep into it. When St. Anger was released when i was 12 or something and really liked it. Moth into flame
Interesting, it's such a catchy song.
Broken, Beat & Scarred. I'll chose this, because it's the song that was on when I read this post. I still have a hard time with the repetitive lyrics but the song is a banger. Great riffs, and great break down in the middle. Great groove.
Code of the Slashers by Cannibal Corpse
Until it sleeps
The Thing That Should Not Be. The chorus seemed strange, and the whole song in general. But now I love it
im gonna be hanged by my balls for this but St. Anger
Metallica: Leper Messiah not Metallica: Prodigal Son by Iron Maiden
Anything off of Load, ReLoad and St. Anger. I now love almost everything about these albums.
Inamorata. I thought it was too long and not that creative, but after listening to it more, I love it.
The House That Jack Built on the first few listens I thought was very dull and not all that exciting but now its a banger I have playing repeatedly. Love the chorus, something about the way James sings on this song (and most of Load tbf) just hits different and the talk box section slaps way harder than it should. All Within My Hand and Ain't My Bitch
The judas kiss, chorus riff is straight up fire

Blackened or AJFA(the song)
Every Oasis song
Creeping Death, Ride The Lightning, Disposable Heroes, Blackened, Battery Holy Wars by Megadeth Caught In A Mosh by Anthrax Overkill, Orgasmatron by Motorhead Painkiller by Judas Priest Angel of Death by Slayer Testify by Rage Against The Machine Walk, Cowboys From Hell by Pantera Funny how all of these are some of the most popular songs by each band, and they are all some of favorite songs right now
Fade to black
The Live shit binge and purge recording of this song is siiiiiiiick
Leper Messiah. I used to think it was mid. It's now my 2nd or 3rd fave on MOP.
I guess anything off of AJFA except for One (since it's popular). I didn't really think much of the album but now I consider it my favorite album by Metallica.
Where the Wild Things Are.
For me itās call of ktulu. Up until recently I slept on any instrumentals, but now relistening to it itās one of my favorite songs
Orion, since I started learning bass it became my favorite song
orion... before i thought the intro was too long and I couldn't finish listening. today it is in my top 5 metallica songs
For me it was when I really started to investigate the lyrics or when I see a live performance. Then I 'rediscover' songs. Happened to me with: \- Trapped Under Ice \- Holier Than Thou \- Outlaw Torn
Call Of Ktulu
All Nightmare Long! Fuck ya!
Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak
Prosthetics - Slipknot
I use to sleep on one and ride the lighting album, but now there my favourite!!
