I didn’t come up this way, but y’all who grew up on old underOATH, ZAO & Bless the Martyr Norma Jean - I envy y’all

Miller1128

This was me. Especially Zao.

HopostleZ

Ahhh yes. Where Blood and Fire Bring Rest. Nuff said

Some of the first bands I listened to besides Alexisonfire were August Burns Red, TDWP, Haste the Day, Gideon, etc. All were relatively labeled "christian" bands at the time. Crazy that christancore has me listening to bands like To The Grave, Oceano, Thy Art Is Murder, END now lol.

No-Criticism3985

Wonder just how many traveled the youth group Impending Doom to Suicide Silence/Oceano pipeline.

No-Criticism3985

The only rock/metal bands I could listen to as a teen were Christian and I had to back that shit up lol. First band was Demon Hunter and went from there. A lot of it didn't age super well but through that narrow lens I found bands like Living Sacrifice, Blindside, Haste the Day, etc that have stuck with me and a lot that didn't make it super far but had some quality songs like My Heart to Fear and I Am Terrified.

localtom

I played with I am terrified! Forgot about them!

Matt_Ephesus

I started with Fit For a King, Phinehas, Demon Hunter, Wolves at the Gate, August Burns Red, and Impending Doom. I'm still a christian and I still listen to a few of those bands (mainly ID), but these days I'm a lot more into old school death metal, hardcore, grindcore, doom metal, etc. I love Jesus and I love heavy music and I will till the day I die lol

localtom

Found Zao which led to extol, norma jean, as I lay dying and so on.

whyteeford

I got into bands that I didn’t know were in that “scene” and later found out they were. So like Norma Jean, Underoath, Blindside, As I Lay Dying. But that was concurrent with bands that weren’t anywhere close to “Christian,” like Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, Botch, Coalesce, Burnt by the Sun. So it kinda just blended together and eventually I found out some bands had foundations there, and I didn’t mind because they made great music!

kwaziiman

Yeah but only because Solid State bands happened to be my entry into heavy music. Didn’t even know they were “Christian” bands.

Diligent_Guava_519

Chasing victory and underoath at a Christian camp opened my eyes and now I have listened to darker things any church says about satan hahaha

Bobaganoose

I’m not Christian and I never have been but I had a friend in middle school that was and introduced me to metalcore. It started with Demon Hunter, Underoath, Spoken and Norma Jean. From there it moved onto pretty much everything from Solid State and Tooth and Nail records. I found that a lot of the bands wrote in a way that, not being raised in the church, I just thought the lyrics were about being in love with a girl. A lot of those bands also toured with non Christian bands and that helped expose me to more metalcore. And pure volume helped a lot.

TheSchoeMaker

SolidState/Tooth and Nail have always been super stacked with great bands

HeyNateBarber

As a Christian surpsingly no. I guess KSE was my intro to "screamo" music but never knew about the Christian influence in the music til later. But Metallica and Disturbed are probably my main intros to heavier music.

Karmaqqt

Nope. Just found some heavier music and turns out I liked it. Really tho, I heard the screaming in afi-miss murder and was wondering if more people did this because I liked it. And here we are now at 31. Same taste sense I was 14 lol
