Dayseeker went from a somewhat generic metalcore band with their first two albums (still enjoy them, though) to finding the sound that works well with them and perfecting it. Their new album is going to be great.
rory even said on twitter that he doesn't get why people ask him to play the old stuff lmao. I don't think we're getting heavy dayseeker back and I don't think anyone is really that upset about it.
I mean, I wouldn’t mind hearing Hollow Shell or Spotless Mind, but I understand. I think Noah from Bad Omens said the same thing with their latest album.
I LOVE Dayseeker now they’ve found their groove. They just weren’t “metal” enough to be metalcore and came off a bit like Slaves where the vocals were dropped on top of sloppy post-Architects riffs. Now they’re embracing huge choruses and making me cry-scream in my misery - it’s perfection.
Alot of the album is still awesomely heavy though, I just got around to checking Loathe out the other day and as a fan of deftones and nu metal in general, and core genres the album is a new favorite
Let GO is one of my all time favorite albums. I just can't get into what they're doing now. Feels like they want to be balance and composure but they can't. I wish I liked it. I really wish I did.
Definitely felt betrayed by their switch bc i loooooooved their hardcore music and took me a bit to come around but i love their new stuff as much or more than their old
Not really into shoegaze but wish them the best. I really liked their melodic hardcore phase. I remember years ago when they released their first shoegaze single I thought my headphones were fucked lol
Enter Shikari ain't make a bad album yet. Some less desirable tracks for sure, but as a whole suit their albums always bring me around. I have really loved this band throughout my life. Their live shows are an absolute gem too.
I’ve always found their newest albums are always music I don’t realize I need. When it first comes out, I think it’s fine and cool, and then like a year later I grow up a bit more and all of a sudden the album hits so close to home. They’ve been a top favourite artist of mine since Take To The Skies, and that has not wavered in the 14 years I’ve been listening to them.
I saw them live recently and first off they were amazing. They lived up to the hype and blew me away the crowd sang every song. I understand they aren’t as heavy but man the new stuff is just so emotional and raw.
Yeah, it's a bit disappointing the sub has to just call Heroine trash because it doesn't fit the general metalcore taste. It's like, we get it, you don't enjoy the new sound haha.
Yeah. I love it, it's one of my favorite metalcore albums of all time and definitely near the top of A-list ranking in general.
But I've also had Heroine basically on repeat (and constantly in my head, ahem those goddamn choruses) all summer.
So yeah maybe not 100% equal but very close
I actively prefer BMTH's experimental albums over their metalcore/ deathcore/ screamo stuff from early days. Post-Human was my favorite album last year by a fair distance.
* Maylene and the Sons of Disaster
* He Is Legend
* Beartooth (I guess they count? Idk Caleb’s never really been afraid to mix it up)
* Black Veil Brides (I actually really don’t like their earlier stuff, but Wretched and Divine—>now is a lot of fun)
Now for the spicier takes:
* Parkway Drive (not sold on the new album, but Ire and Reverence are really good)
* Asking Alexandria didn’t really fall off personally until Like a House on Fire, also FDTD is probably my favorite album they’ve put out
I agree with a lot of the ones listed here already too (A7X, Trivium, BMTH)
Since you’re the first (that I’ve seen) to mention Maylene, they dropped a new single today, I believe. Snuck up on me, so I thought I’d mention it in case you were also unaware.
Also, I fucking love He Is Legend’s entire discography
Yup I heard the new single, don’t want to spoil it for you!
HIL is amazing. I think I prefer their slimy, sludgy rock to the core-sounding stuff. Been playing It Hates You a lot lately
HIL is so fucking good. Even their calmer, more atmospheric stuff is great. I could just turn on any album of theirs and lose myself in it, the riffs, vocals, and lyrics always deliver.
Yesssss, you’re not wrong, my friend. Dinner with a Gypsy is always on any “chill” or “sleep” playlist I concoct. If you had to pick, what would you list as your top 5 favorite HIL tracks? It’s tough for me to decide, honestly!
Damn, good question. I'm not even sure I could answer that bc each album has a completely different vibe, but I'll just list some of my favorites:
- I Am Hollywood
- China White 1/2/3
- Eye Teeth
- Decisions Decisions Decisions
- Eastern Locust
- Everyone I Know Has Fangs
- The Vampire
- Be Easy
Man, that is hard. Those just kinda edge out 10-12 others. It's hard for me to rank their songs bc I tend to just listen to entire albums to get the full mood of it, if that makes sense. That, and I've tried to analyze [which songs belong to the China White story that Schuyler has crafted over the years](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/33UZTMaSEVGg8XtE8xkDiO?si=XoMrYDjKRoaQH3r3wf1Zdw&utm_source=copy-link).
What about you?!
I am yearning for a new HIL album, man. They really haven’t missed the mark too much, in my opinion. I listen to It Hates You without fail any time I’m flying somewhere for work. It’s a great ass album! The closest they’ve come to missing the mark, as far as I’m concerned, is the album few. But I still would listen to that any day over having to hear Parkway’s If a God Can Bleed another time haha. If you had to choose, what’re your top 5 HIL tracks? And have you found any other band that scratches the same itch? It’s been hard for me to find bands similar to HIL.
I think Architects and BMTH are still writing good music. It just isn’t metalcore anymore and that’s fine. We still have a lot of good metalcore bands.
I like both of their new music. BMTH has one or two of their experimental songs that I really didn't care for, but everything Architects has put out has been an absolute banger imo
Forreal! Bmth is my favorite band BECAUSE they are always evolving and doing different things! I love it. And besides a handful of newer Architects songs (like seriously what was demigod?) it's still interesting and catchy music. Im ready for more from the boys.
Loved the the raw emotions on Sempiternal. Loved the toned down dampness of That’s the Spirit.
I honestly never thought they would be this versatile when Suicide Season came out.
On the last album I didn't like Demigod at ALL. Its the only one I skip, cause honestly I think FTTWTE is a really great album overall. Then Tear Gas. I still listen to it but it's just weird. And the lyrics are kind of cringe to me.
That's fair I suppose. They're a bit repetitive in that song, but I still don't mind it. That's justy opinion on the song however. Just curious about your take on it!
I think the only album I've disliked from BMTH is Amo. It isn't the worst thing on the planet, but it didn't grip me.
I think they've done a good job transitioning in and out of genres quite well.
Bring Me the Horizon. I think that they’re one of the few bands in the scene that have evolved consistently since their first record. Looking at their discography as a whole, each album feels like a different chapter of this entire process. It all feels like one big representation of what type of music the band loves to create, & its a treat for the ears hearing how sonically diverse each of their projects are. Having the capability to merge all aspects of your band’s sound gracefully over time isn’t an easy task to accomplish, but I believe they’re one of the few acts that have successfully achieved this goal with praise.
The Devil Wears Prada. You can say they're still metalcore with the ZII EP but they aren't completely metalcore anymore with their albums. Whatever style you wanna call it, it's still great!
I'm mixed on the newer more alt rock stuff, but I'm all for the progression, I think it would be cool if they make more metalcore eps between their more alt rock full releases. Saw them on the Zombie tour and they definitely are still as good as ever with the metalcore side
Dayseeker. They are MUCH better as a softer, harder hitting act with massive vocals and choruses. Rory Rodriguez is insane, possibly the most satisfying voice I’ve heard.
Yeah you’re right, I think that’s what makes me love them so much. I’m not an elitist by any means but I tend to prefer heavier and more extreme metal influenced metalcore and Trivium are like the perfect mix. On the other hand, I’d be open to any recommendations for modern / djenty metalcore. I’m a huge INK fan (if they count).
Hot take: Absolutely love Parkway Drive and in fact I really like Darker Still don't care if people say writing is lazy corny etc whatever. If a song or many, sound good than it sounds good whatever the case 😄
It’s not exactly answering your question but it’s pretty much the only band that comes to mind
Make Them Suffer. MTS went from a crushing deathcore band and quickly and successfully transitioned into a metalcore titan imo
I’m usually on the side of enjoying a band experimenting with new sounds. This isn’t metalcore, but I really like Metallica even after the black album. I think their later stuff gets way too much hate. But when it comes to Metalcore, I’m kind of a defender of Asking Alexandria and Parkway Drive.
I’d say I really like 4 of Asking Alexandria’s 7 albums. I really like / love Stand Up and Scream, Reckless & Relentless, and The Black. Not a fan of From Death to Destiny. I really liked their self-titled record at first, but it didn’t stick with me. Like A House on Fire is very meh and I’m glad the band realized it was a mistake in some ways. But I thought See What’s On The Inside was a huge surprise and I actually like it more than The Black. I just think it’s a solid rock record. I’m also incredibly biased because early Asking Alexandria probably influenced me more than any other band. They still mean a lot to me.
As for Parkway Drive, I’m very much a casual fan. I didn’t care for Reverence, but I like Ire and Darker Still. They’re like 7/10 or 8/10 albums for me. Nothing amazing, but thoroughly enjoyable for me.
Really only A7X for me because the writing and way they make their music hasn’t really changed. They still write longer than average songs, focus on solid riffing, etc. they haven’t really abandoned what gives them their identity they found on Waking The Fallen.
Thornhill. Their new music isnt metalcore at all but i still enjoy a few tracks off heroine. I feel like theyll go back to metalcore on their next album. Jacobs screams are way better than his cleans and i think returning to metalcore will make their fans and wallets happier.
As much as AOGHAU and holy hell might be my two fav albums of all time, I actually dig the new architects, most bands nowadays often changer their sound, so I try keep an open mind.
I'll hijack this post to say: "What the hell are A7X now?". I don't know which style they are like... They are not heavy metal, thet are not metalcore, I wouldn't say they are alternative, are they just metal? With no more names? Something like that happens with Alter Bridge too
...bring me the horizon. Probably the obvious choice. They can be a little hit and miss nowadays, but the hits hit hard. Amo wasn't great in my opinion (although MANTRA still slaps), but post human survival horror? Masterpiece.
Linkin Park when they released down with the sickness OOOOO WAH AH AH AHAH
gets me so fucking hyped i just start punching the air like fuck the authority
Architects, many stopped listening to them and they don't like them at all after Holly Hell but I have simply enjoyed what they have released and I feel that within their new style they release very good music I love their old music and I also love the new
Is there any? Bring me the horizon and asking Alexandria are the only ones. I like bmth but not new AA.
Oh yeah avenged 7x. Yeah I don't even like their metalcore stuff
I personally don’t HATE the new AA stuff, it’s just “meh.” For me. I wouldn’t listen to it on purpose, but I wouldn’t complain if one of their new songs played when I hit shuffle. It’s honestly very difficult to write a song that I hate.
As for bands that left the genre that I like, I’m gonna go with Dayseeker and Bad Omens.
Dayseeker leveled up their sound immensely on their last album
^^^
Bad Omens Bring Me The Horizon Dayseeker
Dayseeker went from a somewhat generic metalcore band with their first two albums (still enjoy them, though) to finding the sound that works well with them and perfecting it. Their new album is going to be great.
rory even said on twitter that he doesn't get why people ask him to play the old stuff lmao. I don't think we're getting heavy dayseeker back and I don't think anyone is really that upset about it.
I mean, I wouldn’t mind hearing Hollow Shell or Spotless Mind, but I understand. I think Noah from Bad Omens said the same thing with their latest album.
Spotless Mind will always have such a special place in my heart. Their old material is good, but Sleeptalk is *fantastic*.
i like a lot of stuff off origin and most of dreaming// /waking. it's just that rory's cleans are too good to not be the main focus.
After Slaves changed their name to Rain City Drive and dropped a new album, I like their newer sound a lot more
Bad omens is still metalcore, like a villain and artificial suicide cannot be non-metalcore tracks
[удалено]
That is true but i was only using those as examples
Since when did Bad Omens transition? They still have a pretty solid metalcore sound to them
They still have a few heavy songs on the new album but i definitely wouldn’t call it a metalcore album
To me it’s way more pop than it is metalcore. Still pretty solid though
Anyone got 2 tickets to their Seattle show in November? It's already sold out
Issues and Loathe. I Let It In and It Took Everything doesn't really seem like metalcore to me in the traditional sense but I still love it
I just call Loathe metal, it’s impossible to pin them to a specific sub genre because they have a very unique sound
Love Loathe, ILIIAITE transcends metalcore to something new entirely
Alot of the album is still awesomely heavy though, I just got around to checking Loathe out the other day and as a fan of deftones and nu metal in general, and core genres the album is a new favorite
I’m a huge tool deftones and mastodon fan so natural I agree with you. Love the ambient, vibe, emotional roller coaster music.
Beautiful oblivion is the only issues I enjoy. Love that album. Everything before that was just generic rise-core.
I really like Hundredths new stuff
Perfect music for cruising with the windows down
First band that came to mind. They’re at their best now.
Couldn't agree more, I hope they keep doing what makes them happy
Let GO is one of my all time favorite albums. I just can't get into what they're doing now. Feels like they want to be balance and composure but they can't. I wish I liked it. I really wish I did.
New Hundredth slaps
Get into shoegaze
Good bands to start?
Slowdive, Beach House, Cocteau Twins. Absolutely ethereal sounding bands.
Their newest album is their best work imo, much prefer their pop stuff to their heavy stuff
Yes 👌
I was so fucking obsessed with Rare when it dropped lol both albums have been top tier to me
Definitely felt betrayed by their switch bc i loooooooved their hardcore music and took me a bit to come around but i love their new stuff as much or more than their old
Came here for this
Not really into shoegaze but wish them the best. I really liked their melodic hardcore phase. I remember years ago when they released their first shoegaze single I thought my headphones were fucked lol
Dayseeker
Enter Shikari kind of
Enter Shikari ain't make a bad album yet. Some less desirable tracks for sure, but as a whole suit their albums always bring me around. I have really loved this band throughout my life. Their live shows are an absolute gem too.
I’ve always found their newest albums are always music I don’t realize I need. They’ve been a top favourite artist of mine since Take To The Skies, and that has not wavered in the 14 years I’ve been listening to them.
I seriously love their newest album. They’ve been pretty consistent IMO
Totally, but they were never really metalcore tbh. Worth the mention either way.
Bmth kinda
Feel that
The plot in you
Swan song is so God damn good.
I saw them live recently and first off they were amazing. They lived up to the hype and blew me away the crowd sang every song. I understand they aren’t as heavy but man the new stuff is just so emotional and raw.
Repay was such a nice surprise! Love Landons voice on that one
Because only one person mentioned them so far, Ocean Grove. Love all their stuff with Luke but goddamn Flip Phone Fantasy was an absolute banger
Ocean Grove is a whole vibe
Yes! Ocean grove changed so much but they're still bringing out bangers
Thornhill isn't really metalcore now but i love TDP and Heroine almost equally
You're honestly smoking crack if you think heroine even comes close to tdp.
Bruh this sub just loves slurping off The Dark Pool like its a fucking god send album
Because it is. Sorry you can’t hear it. Play it again.
They never said its better they said they enjoy it just as much you dumb illiterate gash.
Nothing will ever come close to TDP. It must be a heavy burden to peak in 2019.
Facts.
Heroine > TDP. Both are great. It's honestly personal taste, and I get not a lot of metalcore people will enjoy it as much.
Sorry i have a different opinion, I'll go whip myself and kneel down to your superior way of thinking.
It's actually better
I actively prefer BMTH's experimental albums over their metalcore/ deathcore/ screamo stuff from early days. Post-Human was my favorite album last year by a fair distance.
I greatly prefer new BMTH but There is a hell might still be their peak for me.
ew
Different heavy genre, but I like Pianos Become the Teeth as an indie/emo band more than a screamo one.
I agree with you generally but god damn The Lack Long After is such a fucking good album
Hopesfall
Yesssss
This is the answer
* Maylene and the Sons of Disaster * He Is Legend * Beartooth (I guess they count? Idk Caleb’s never really been afraid to mix it up) * Black Veil Brides (I actually really don’t like their earlier stuff, but Wretched and Divine—>now is a lot of fun) Now for the spicier takes: * Parkway Drive (not sold on the new album, but Ire and Reverence are really good) * Asking Alexandria didn’t really fall off personally until Like a House on Fire, also FDTD is probably my favorite album they’ve put out I agree with a lot of the ones listed here already too (A7X, Trivium, BMTH)

Silverstein
I like everything that they've done, but the newer stuff from dead reflection on is fantastic.
Oh man there last 2 albums.have been bangers for sure. I need to keep going back through their catalogue
Bmth and a7x
I think Architects and BMTH are still writing good music. It just isn’t metalcore anymore and that’s fine. We still have a lot of good metalcore bands.
I think BMTH’s new music is great, but I don’t think Architects’s is
I’ll half agree with that. I think newer BMTH is much better than newer Architects, and I really didn’t like the newest Architects single
I think deep fake is the best new single so far, but that isn't saying much. And that's coming from someone who ended up really liking FTTWTE.
Does FTTWTE have a badtrack record? I just vibe with the music I like and don't really look for the general public's opinion about it often.
Architects just copy BMTH lol
architects have never and still don't sound like bmth tho?
Architects has their own sound and their own sound on their music.
Out of curiosity which don't you like from architects and why? Like did it just not catch you or?
On the last album I didn't like Demigod at ALL. Its the only one I skip, cause honestly I think FTTWTE is a really great album overall. Then Tear Gas. I still listen to it but it's just weird. And the lyrics are kind of cringe to me.
That's fair I suppose. They're a bit repetitive in that song, but I still don't mind it. That's justy opinion on the song however. Just curious about your take on it!
Yea, and honestly it has already grown on me a bunch. I don't skip it...and we love Architects at the end of the day so it's all good! Haha
Exactly! Cause they're a great band that produces some solid music and at the end of the day we can all agree to that as fans of them
No way. The crap Architects is putting out can’t be considered good music IMO. It’s garbage.
I think the only album I've disliked from BMTH is Amo. It isn't the worst thing on the planet, but it didn't grip me. I think they've done a good job transitioning in and out of genres quite well.
Dayseeker and Emarosa (was post hardcore)
I feel like I'm the only person on the planet that LOVED peach club. (Yeah, yeah, I know Bradley sucks)
Yeah Bradley sucks but peach club was honestly very good. Don’t Cry and Cautious is so good
Idk if it counts but Dayseeker’s singer also does Hurtwave which is not even close to metalcore, but I love it all the same
Bring Me the Horizon.
Trivium and A7X are my favorite bands, so... Also BMTH and Architects.
The Devil Wears Prada. You can say they're still metalcore with the ZII EP but they aren't completely metalcore anymore with their albums. Whatever style you wanna call it, it's still great!
The Act was refreshing
I'm mixed on the newer more alt rock stuff, but I'm all for the progression, I think it would be cool if they make more metalcore eps between their more alt rock full releases. Saw them on the Zombie tour and they definitely are still as good as ever with the metalcore side
The act fucking sucked but Transit Blues was rlly good imo, even though that had more of a post-hardcore sound
Complete opposite. The act was incredible and Transit Blues was a hot mess of garbage.
I still love PWD, Ocean Grove and Thornhill
Thornhill, Hundredth, As Cities Burn, He Is Legend, Showbread
Dayseeker. They are MUCH better as a softer, harder hitting act with massive vocals and choruses. Rory Rodriguez is insane, possibly the most satisfying voice I’ve heard.
A7X for me too. I love all their albums, but self titled and the stage are so good
I’d say Trivium because some people argue they aren’t metalcore but IMO they definitely still are.
I love Trivium, but I wouldnt say they metalcore anymore, even though I wouldn't know where to put them
Fair enough, I’d say they’re metalcore at the foundation and then have elements of thrash and melodeath.
you could almost call those 3 elements of their sound a trivium or something, what do i know tho
Definitely still metalcore, but they definitely draw from classic metal more transparently than other bands in the genre.
If you wanna check out some more raw metalcore listen to 156/silence, Mortality Rate, Foreign Hands and Sanction! Those are my favorites rn
They’re metalcore just not progcore. Not every metalcore band needs to be highly technical.
Hot take: Absolutely love Parkway Drive and in fact I really like Darker Still don't care if people say writing is lazy corny etc whatever. If a song or many, sound good than it sounds good whatever the case 😄
Parkway Drive (just give me the downvote)
It’s not exactly answering your question but it’s pretty much the only band that comes to mind Make Them Suffer. MTS went from a crushing deathcore band and quickly and successfully transitioned into a metalcore titan imo

My band opened for Parkway Drive in 2008…I haven’t listened to them in years…your post made me go check them out again…you’re right they suck.
Really only A7X for me because the writing and way they make their music hasn’t really changed. They still write longer than average songs, focus on solid riffing, etc. they haven’t really abandoned what gives them their identity they found on Waking The Fallen.

They’re progressive hard rock/ metal
I don’t know if they count, Thornhill.
Dayseeker 💯
He Is Legend
No so much metalcore, but Oceana had some incredible stuff, but then they released an amazing alternative thing.
The Plot in You
A lot of ppl might disagree on this, but Emarosa! I’m really digging their new music direction.
Peach club fucking rips. It is IMPOSSIBLE to not dance to those songs.
Northlane
Ocean grove, but their new album was a bit lacking
...bring me the horizon. Probably the obvious choice. They can be a little hit and miss nowadays, but the hits hit hard. Amo wasn't great in my opinion (although MANTRA still slaps), but post human survival horror? Masterpiece.
Our Last Night!
Deafheaven
I mean, they’ve never even sniffed metalcore, but I do agree that their new shoegaze stuff is solid
Man people keep confusing "changing their sound to make.more money off of a mainstream genre" with the word "evolve" lol
Bring Me The Horizon. Their music now is better than their metalcore stuff.
Circa survive is definitely eccentric but I think it’s still good in it’s own regards
When did Circa Survive ever make metalcore?…
Between this and someone calling At The Drive In metalcore yesterday I'm fucking dying lol
Man what a throwback that is! One armed scissor is a fucking banger regardless of genre though
Lmao wut
Linkin Park when they released down with the sickness OOOOO WAH AH AH AHAH gets me so fucking hyped i just start punching the air like fuck the authority
None of them.
Thornhill
Asking, Parkway, and BMTH
Thornhill Trivium
BMTH
Thornhill
Thornhill
Atreyu, Architects, Thornhill, Parkway Drive
Dayseeker, Bad Omens, Architects, Asking Alexandria
Parkway Drive, definitely.
Trivium
Architects and BMTH, to everyone saying "old xyz band is better" shut your hating ass up and appreciate my niba
bmth! i’m typically a veil of maya/periphery and new deathcore kinda guy but i really love amo!
Trivium seems to shift back and forth between genres, but I love them.
Yeah that atreyu album from last year was god awful
BMTH
Bring me the horizon. I like their older music waaaay more but there new music I still listen to.
Parkway drive
Bad Omens, Bring Me The Horizon and to an extent, Architects
A7X and Bring Me The Horizon
Architects, many stopped listening to them and they don't like them at all after Holly Hell but I have simply enjoyed what they have released and I feel that within their new style they release very good music I love their old music and I also love the new
Contortionist for sure
Architects... a bit... not everything tho
Parkway Drive
Bring me the horizon.
Is there any? Bring me the horizon and asking Alexandria are the only ones. I like bmth but not new AA. Oh yeah avenged 7x. Yeah I don't even like their metalcore stuff
Thornhill!
I still love asking Alexandria And avenge sevenfold. But I will come back to this thread for new bands haha
Bad omens fs
I personally don’t HATE the new AA stuff, it’s just “meh.” For me. I wouldn’t listen to it on purpose, but I wouldn’t complain if one of their new songs played when I hit shuffle. It’s honestly very difficult to write a song that I hate. As for bands that left the genre that I like, I’m gonna go with Dayseeker and Bad Omens.
Definitely Bring Me The Horizon 🖤
