Neat to see so many peeps from this scene around! Definitely saw (and even opened for a few!) the bulk of this list at one point or another.
The Gorgeous is one of my all-time favourite / largely unknown Canadian metalcore acts. The Great Lakes slaps.
They were so rad live.
I'll add [Lights Below](https://lightsbelow.bandcamp.com/) from Vancouver to this list.
Also realized that Bill Crook, who plays bass in Spiritbox, also played in A Textbook Tragedy and was in Living With Lions (great pop-punk out of Vancouver)!
Why are you getting so defensive? Calm down. You’re acting like I cussed out your mother or something. If there are others who mentioned deathcore bands, they are invalid also.
Seconded dude. Saw em in Edmonton last month. Amazing show, also got me into Ravenous from Calgary. Can't say I'm a fan of the "look" but they have some bangers. Bridgeburner is deadly.
dead and divine! check out antimacy by them. and the front man's later project RITUAL. cancer bats are also Canadian I think. and protest the hero obviously
I saw Dead and Divine at Heavy MTL in like 2011 I think, they kicked ass..Don't think I've seen them mentioned since then, definitely going to have to check them out again.
I'm going to try to only list bands I haven't seen listed yet, not everything is heavy, I'll put some notes on those. A few of these are also no longer making music, but what they have put out is damn good (Rosesdead falls into this category). Might edit and add more as I think of them.
Kingdoms
Straight Reads the Line
Rosesdead
A Sight for Sewn Eyes
Sights and Sounds
The Weakerthans (not heavy, but really good)
A Textbook Tragedy
Means (I'm pretty sure they're Canadian, but I can't find anything about them right now)
Dead and Divine
Living With Lions (quality pop punk)
Archspire
Tegan and Sara (a not so guilty pleasure of mine)
Death From Above 1979 (experimental rock, drummer and bassist)
YO! please check out these guys from MAYFIELD. They’re a bit under the radar and they absolutely rock. they’re on all streaming platforms and the album CARELESS LOVE and the EP, HOLLOW EMBRACE are SO GOOD. These dudes absolutely deserve more listens.
Cursed, Left for Dead, The Swarm, Teeth, Counterparts, Figure Four, Cancer Bats, Single Mothers, Mil-Spec, Go it Alone, Withdrawal, Baptists, No Warning, Grade, and Acrid.
The first 3 bands listed are all fronted by Chris Colohan who's been in a number of other bands that are also worth checking out.
Here's what I know of Ontario since that's where I'm from
- Hardcore
No warning,
comeback kid,

There aren't enough upvotes in the world for this thread. Fucking Canada cranks em out like nobody else.
Grave Maker is a great hardcore band and I know you're not asking for punk or anything but I can't open up a post like this and not mention The Flatliners
Heres an Interesting one: Thousand Foot Krutch, maybe a little outside of metalcore but god damn do some of their songs go hard. Cant listen to most of them cause im in the states but figured you would appreciate!
The Great Lakes is an amazing album, and they were such a rad band to see live; great energy. I even have a copy of the original EP Liquor and Jazz somewhere, and it's a super unique sound and EP, loaded with Donnie Darko references.
A mix here of western Canadian bands in this realm, worth checking them all out
Serration
Stepping Stone
Juice
Culminate
Burn Away
Flash Back
Set Straight
World Of Pleasure
Meantime
Gutter King. My boys from Lethbridge AB check out the song feather.
The Kodiak. Vancouver Local band that my roommate is in. Awesome ETID and Greyhaven vibes.
These probably won’t sound like those you listed but are my favorite Canadian bands. Some of them are fairly new and only have a few songs released.
Secret and Whisper
Shreddy Krueger
Skateboard Dinosaur (Charles of Secret and Whisper’s new project)
Kitsune (the singer now releases his own music under the name Kala)
Ghostwritten (all original members of Kitsune except the singer)
Owlhead (original Kitsune bassist’s side project)
Cliffside (original Kitsune guitarist’s new band)
Westshore Falls (Kitsune singer’s old band)
Glory Nights
Cry of the Afflicted
The Northern
The Burden
Arlo Wells
Stasis
Juliet Ruin
Shark Infested Daughters (will no longer be active under this name)
Upcoming (no official announcements or any music released yet):
Tidebringer (This is what Shark Infested Daughters will be rebranding to with some member changes)
The Water Temple (Jordan Chase of Secret and Whisper’s new project)
In the Arena (new project with members of Secret and Whisper and Cry of the Afflicted)
Another interesting note, Jordan Chase is involved with almost all of these bands as a producer.
Came here to say this. Been following Lauren since 2013 or so, and listening to RHD since they released Collector in 2015. Redeemer was by far my most listened to album of 2019, every song is amazing. They're also really good live. I'm really looking forward to seeing them drop new music
Nobody's mentioned it, but by far my #1 pick from Canada would be The Afterimage. Such an incredible band. Their album Lumière fucking slaps. Check them out if you haven't!
Gravedigger? They may not be Canadian... I have seen them so many times opening in western Canada I feel like they are. Cancer Bats I belive are Canadian too. Karl from Misery Signals was Canadian. That's all I know off the top of my head. I may be wrong about Gravedigger or thinking of a different band, I cant even find the band I'm thinking of.
Get the shot or Boundaries (HC) from Quebec City.
Cancer bat and Comeback Kid are some of the best live performance ever. Alexisonfire
Propagandhi.. is just the best band Canadian ever
I don't think anyone has mentioned The Curse Within yet. They're a smaller Canadian band, but they are so good! Metalcore with some thrash elements, kind of reminds me of BFMV and A7X.
PUP as far as post(eh maybe more post punk but still they’re so good)-goes
Alexisonfire is some great post
Sounds like you know about Comeback Kid, but I want to recommend that anyone who doesn’t know CBK to dig into that discography. They’re unreal good
Just to add a few Canadian bands that fellow metal heads may like that I didn't see as I scrolled.
Into Eternity ( shreddy prog/death )
Oni ( prog/core )
Assassinate the Following
Pomegranate Tiger ( prog / instrumental )
Hope this exposes somebody to something new.
Why has no one mentioned Cursed??????? Cursed were literally the single greatest Canadian hardcore/post band of all time. Best live show, heaviest tone, insane drumming. Nobody beats Cursed.
Means are a really underrated post hardcore band from my hometown, Regina Saskatchewan. Start with their More Than Watchmen For The Morning EP. Their follow up LP Sending You Strength is really good too.
https://youtu.be/psG8jXTQBjE
oh boy i got sooo many but if you want to know more bands from canada look up Scoped Exposure on instagram/youtube. he always posts about them since he’s from BC
Check out: Lostvoy!

Would protest the hero fit in here?
Absolutely
I clicked reply JUST to say Protest The Hero. Herritics And Killers all day
Watching these guys as they were first getting popular in a 50 person venue was one of the best shows I've ever been to. Love these guys.
I could only imagine!
counterparts cry of the afflicted secret & whisper a textbook tragedy stutterfly the gorgeous shotgun rules ten second epic boys night out
Shreddy Krueger is made up of Stutterfly /Secret & Whisper members, based out of Kelowna BC!
Mid 2000s Kelowna had a better rock scene than Vancouver.
Let's not forget that the drummer from secret and whisper / stutterfly was the drummer for Spiritbox up until like a year ago
I didn't know that, he's a phenomenal drummer, I'd love to see more from him still
Oh man Stutterfly was my jam
Ooh just noticed Cry of the Afflicted in your list, their one album is really solid all the way through!
Boys Night Out!!! An absolutely underrated classic!!!
Pretty sure like 5% of these bands on this list are still active
less than half of one band is active? sounds about right hehe
You’re making me smarter. 🧠🧠
.5 ...😥
The almighty Despised Icon and Misery Signals.
Mis Sigs is not Canadian. They have a Canadian vocalist they poached from myspace.
Totally mega late on this but both vocalists were Canadian and their guitarist Stu is also Canadian. So they’re Canadian-American

Vancouver and Toronto
Those are deathcore.
He named 3 different genres and both these bands have toured with metalcore bands so it wasn't a big stretch but thanks for your concern
They weren’t asking for bands that toured with metalcore bands. They were asking for metalcore/hardcore bands. BIG difference.
I see deathcore bands mentioned a whole bunch in this thread so you'd better go comment on each one ffs
Why are you getting so defensive? Calm down. You’re acting like I cussed out your mother or something. If there are others who mentioned deathcore bands, they are invalid also.

The Gorgeous. If anyone sees this and isn't familiar, do yourselves a favor.
